In my opinion, any decent flanger should be able to do a good chorus. If you want options whatsoever, The New Wave has like 7 presets for each mode.. That's why I chose this one. The 18v power draw is iffy and it may be more noisy at low volumes closer to an amp, but once you crank a bit it's no problem. The tone shaping is very wide.

    I love JA and have a prism and golden boy so obviously this is on my list of potential Boss CE5 killers. If I'm just wanting a nice multivoice 80's sounding chorus, I'm also considering the Strymon Ola, the UA Astra and the Eventide Tricera.
    I'm seeing Ola's and Tricera's on reverb for around $200~225 and the new wave and Astra for about $50~60 more. I've watched tons of reviews and I'm trying to really see if there is a reason to spend more than what I can spend for the Ola and Tricera?
    I feel like the new wave and Astra both (while sounding excellent) are offering modes/settings that I know I will never use and although the Ola and Tricera both have some cool tricks too.

    • @joeymc5272
      @joeymc5272 Год назад +1

      Very hard to compare the 2 both excellent pedals in there own ways. I would much prefer the synthesia personally. More sound design options imo. But mobius is awesome as well. You cant go wrong with either of them.

    • @thepedalzone
      @thepedalzone  Год назад +2

      It’s difficult to compare the New Wave with those two units. New Wave is an all analog chorus/vibrato with digital controls, which means you get access to the good stuff like MIDI, Presets and different LFOs. But what you’re getting is still “just” chorus. An epically glorious collection of chorus tones, mind you. Mobius and Synesthesia on the other hand are all digital units which seek to emulate a ton of different modulation times through heavy duty DSP tech. Hence you’ll get stuff way beyond the world of chorus and vibrato in those two. So it all comes down to what you need. Do you need one if the finest analog chorus/vibrato tones out there, or do you need something that’s able to produce a wealth of different modulation sounds? Only you know the answer

    • @ElectricNimPedalsPhilippines
      @ElectricNimPedalsPhilippines Год назад

      What I mean compare is just a video showing any of the two along w New Wave mainly for reference. Not saying others is better and others aint. I got a synesthesia and mobius.

      @@ElectricNimPedalsPhilippines - Okay. Don't have a Mobius. Synesthesia comparison could be possible in the future. I'll see if time allows it :)

    • @JJDon5150
      @JJDon5150 Год назад

      There's also the Eventide Tricerachorus which would be a more direct competitor to this pedal. I have both the Tricerachorus and Mobius and they are a little different. The Tricerachorus is a straight chorus pedal built on rack chorus units while the Mobius has really good chorus on its own but does other modulations like you said. For not being a dedicated chorus pedal, the chorus on the Mobius is really good. I think the one thing the Tricerachorus may have over the New Wave pedal is an easier ability to program presets and also recall presets from your computer via USB. Would be interested in comparing those two pedals though.

      I fail to see how being honest about whether the promotion is paid or not is dishonest.

    • @thepedalzone
      @thepedalzone  Год назад +32

      Hey! So this is a really great subject. Thanks for bringing it up. Let's go through it.
      1) I totally understand why the phrasing "Paid Promotion" rubs you the wrong way. It carries a lot of negative connotations for me as well, but in the way RUclips does it, it has become a catch all phrase. So the "Paid Promotion" pop-up refers to if the video contains any products, any products at all, that was given to me by companies. So this means, even if the pedal I'm playing is one I've bought myself, but the guitar I'm playing in the demo was sponsored, then I have to mark the video as containing "Paid Promotion" by law. I could of course make my own system where I explicitly explain what was given to me and what was not given to me in each and every single video, but that would take more time than actually making the demo itself, because my entire studio is full of a broad mix of products that was either given to me or that I acquired myself, hence I use this catch-all pop-up that RUclips have created. It saves me time.
      2) RUclips is gonna be a rough landscape for you if you decide to see every single video that's marked as containing paid promotion as being dishonest. Because what about all the channels that don't mark their videos as sponsored or containing paid promotion, even if the products were given to them? Then it's probably more honest to be up front about it all. All of the major gear channels get gear sent to them, and also the majority of smaller channels do. Micro influencers are perhaps even more used by brands now than big influencer channels. But what brands "pay" us for, with either product and/or money is not for our opinion, but for our time, special skills and audience. Hence you'll always see me mentioning both pros and cons about a product in my final verdicts in the videos. No product is perfect, but most products are really good this day and age. But it shouldn't be neglected that it takes a lot of time and a lot of skill to produce videos like this, and that time spent away from family and friends shouldn't be free.
      3) What connects the creators, the brands and the audience is one thing, and that's a passion for gear. We think it's fun. Spending hours and days making something I don't believe in would be the clearest definition of hell in my book, and would honestly be a waste of time for everyone involved. Me, the brand and you. So hence you can always expect that if a piece of gear appears on this channel, it's because I like it, and every other gear channel out there will tell you the same story. Time is the most precious resource we have, so I'm definitely not gonna spend that on anything that doesn't make me smile.
      4) I'm of course really sad you've chosen to unsubscribe, but also a bit surprised that you haven't seen the paid promotion pop-up before now. I've marked every video with it for the last 3 years or so. When did you subscribe to my channel?
      Jackson Audio did send me this pedal, but they haven't had any influence on what the video was gonna sound or look like, and they didn't have any say on my opinion of the pedal. Jackson Audio sent me this pedal because they like the way that I play and present stuff, and felt that I could give a unique spin on this pedal that other channels couldn't. No brand gets to see my demos before they launch on the channel, and no brand ever will. They should always experience them with new excitement and curiosity, just like the majority of my viewers hopefully do.
      I hope this makes sense, and paints a better picture of what the much used and much debated "Paid Promotion" pop-up actually means, and what it means to me to be a content creator.
      All the best
      Stefan

    Hey man are you using any EQ or compressor pedals in your normal chain or are you mixing in your daw? Was curious about this to shape your over sound? I know this is a pedal channel but would always be nice how you clean up these sounds with your mixing. Thanks.

    • @thepedalzone
      @thepedalzone  Год назад +2

      I mix in my daw. In this specific demo I did use a compressor pedal in the Baritone example, because I think it sounded nice. But yeah, other than that no significant tone sculpting other than that of the amp. In my daw I typically just add a low-pass and high-pass filter to take away frequencies that aren't necessary for the guitar and that will just create mud, and then I add in a very subtle comp on the master bus just to control peaks. Notch filters can be applied sometimes, if there's a build-up of unpleasant resonant frequencies, but I always keep the chain simple, transparent and true to what the gear sounds like.
