    I really appreciated the honest feedback about the firmware and the power requirements, especially with the direct current draw measurement. That’s next level reviewing!

      My years of model railroading have taught me that when something's not working, before disassembling a perfectly good locomotive, it's always a good idea to make sure the power supply is doing what's required.

      Awesome review! The New Wave now ships with the updated firmware that you have now, no need to update for anyone wondering. @@StompboxBreakdown

      @@JacksonAudio I just got mine from Sweetwater but it came with no power supply. The Dunlop 18v doesn't work so I bought the Cioks supply.

    Thanks for the disclosures on the firmware and the power supply. A lot of reviewers don't/won't go there. This kind of review makes for a better level of trust between yourself and the viewer, in my opinion. Nicely done and, maybe even a bit brave on your part. While I love rotary effects and weird chorusing effects, what you said wouldn't dissuade me from buying the Jackson pedal here, but it does make me think about the benefits vs the negatives and how that relates to my board and purposes better. For that, thank you.

      To be honest, when I first saw this pedal, I thought "What an interesting assortment of features and sounds, why haven't I heard more about this?", then I started reading reviews and threads about it. My first thought was that all of these people must've screwed something up, or didn't know the difference between volts and amps, and it'd be good to do a demo that shows it working perfectly, but then exhibiting those noted signs of failure when plugged into an underpowered outlet.
      So when mine locked up, I figured I could either quietly return it and pretend nothing ever happened, or reach out to tech support and see how quickly I could get up and running again. I'm not sure what I would have done if I didn't get a response or the firmware update didn't work, but I figured sunlight was the best remedy.

    Aw cool! Pretenders first album, right out of the box! And that first "rack" setting was like a Leslie, the second time sounded like '80s as well. Sounds like the rack does a better Leslie than the "rotary". And the mighty Boss RT-20 makes a cameo appearance. That thing is a little monster. Great video.

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  11 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you! Yeah, definitely Pretenders vibes. I'm not sure I'd come up with the labels they assigned to those presets, but there are a lot of other factors at play (guitar, amp, song, playing style, etc). And the RT-20 definitely needs more love, I have a blast every time I put it on the board.

    Wow I'm such a geek that learning xvive makes mn5007 bbd chips was the most exciting part of this video to me.maybe that's why ehx was able to put out the walking on the moon electric mistress flanger with the real chips for such a cheap price I hope they do like a nirvana in utero anniversary poly chorus or any other excuse to make the real deal pedals affordable again I'll buy three on the first day

      @StompboxBreakdown  11 месяцев назад

      I'm not sure they made any changes to the Walking On The Moon flanger other than the artwork and branding. I'd *love* an affordable Polychorus reissue, though. I've come dangerously close to pulling the trigger on one of those sitting at a local music shop.

    I can't believe we've had vibrato right here at our fingertips for so many years yet no one wanted it on its own until just recently.ive loved the sound from day one and could only find it as an isolated effect on crappy multi fx pedals or by using just the wet side of a stereo chorus and plugging in a dummy cord into the dry output to get a crappy vibrato.personally univibe vibrato is my favorite flavor but a ton of univibe pedals don't offer it

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  11 месяцев назад

      I never really experimented with Vibrato until a little while ago. It's one of those effects that can very easily just sound like... an out-of-tune guitar. It kinda needs the context of everything else around it to give it that gravity. I've always kind of come back to the song "Lake Michigan" by Rogue Waves as my favorite application of vibrato (comes in around 2:55)

    It doesn't add too much volume for you? I just got mine, and it gets noticeably louder when i turn it on, and i didn't notice how hot that louder signal was until i turned on my distortion pedal and noticed it was clipping and sorta oddly compressed my distortion in a bad way :( i looked on their website for an update, but i can't seem to see anything, maybe i'm blind and missed it :/ idk...

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  10 месяцев назад

      Interesting. Does the volume jump when engaged, or all the time? I didn’t notice any volume jump. Does it do it on both sides of the mix knob?

    Did you build or buy the shelves in the background? I see them (at least that style) in a lot of peoples videos but not sure where to get them. Thanks a bunch!

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  11 месяцев назад +2

      Ha, so the funny truth is that they were initially going to be display shelves for my slot cars and model trains. They're just two strips of wood, cut lengthwise, and glued/nailed together at a 90 degree angle. When I decided turning my entire basement into a sprawling railway empire wasn't perhaps the wisest use of space, and I had the thought of doing a RUclips pedal channel, I added a thin half-round to the front to form a lip to keep the pedals from sliding off when they're leaning back.
      So, TL;DR - I made them. Cheap lumber cut lengthwise and nailed/glued, and a small half-round at the front to form a lip, then sanded, stained, and sealed.

    • @heartben
      @heartben 11 месяцев назад

      @@StompboxBreakdown Very cool! They look great. The half round is a brilliant idea! Thank you for the reply. Maybe If I get brave I will take a crack at building some.

    Really wanted this pedal but all the reviews keep saying it stopped working or they were sent a broken one out of the box. Its price point is too risky to justify getting a replacement.

  • @FranMjolnir

    It sounds good but it has many flaws. The biggest problem is you can’t go to the next chorus unless you press the button. Also none of the settings ever save.

      Ooh, honestly I don't remember if it's Micro USB or USB-C. I *think* it's Micro USB, but I'd open it up and check. You'll need USB A to whatever the jack on the inside is.

    Intro jams are getting richer like fine, aged Smuckers Concord Grape. More excellent tunes and a killer lead.
