Making banana pudding from scratch

- Ingredients *
2 Boxes of Nilla Wafers
1 1/2 cups Granulated sugar
2/3 cups all-purpose flour
1/8 tsp salt
6 brown egg yolks separated or 8 jumbo white egg yolks separated
4 cups evaporated milk
1tsp vanilla extract
6 ripe bananas
*
separate egg yolks from the white. I only use the yolks.
combine all dry ingredients in a bowl.
combine all wet ingredients in a bowl. Stir wet ingredients until all combined. Then add 2 cups of your liquid and vanilla extract ingredients to the dry and combine well. Add all your wet ingredients to a nonstick saucepan over medium-high heat. then add the rest of your ingredients.
You have to constantly stir until it starts to thicken. Then remove from heat and stir another five minutes.
Assemble your pudding anyway you like.
I add a bottom layer of cookies and two bananas them 2 cups pudding.
Repeat until finished.
All Whip cream or cool whip to top.
I made your recipe a few times. My husband love it. He’s been begging for it again and I realized I never left you a comment and a thanks. I have to come back every time I make it. Your the only person I found that wasn’t using that packaged mess and that actually make a big enough recipe.

Just wanna stop and say thank you 🙏 my mom passed a year ago and I never got her recipe and this is the closest thing I found to her style if not Exactly like how she did hers ‼️
I tried your recipe and my family & guests LOVED IT! I made an adjustment by adding some butter to the custard shortly before pouring over the cookies. Your recipe had the "right" amount of sugar, evaporated milk and egg ratios. It wasn't overly sweet, but just right especially when adding a little bit of butter.
I have to remember that the custard will thicken as it cools so I won't cook it so long on the stove. I had a layer of cookies on the bottom, custard, thinly sliced bananas, crumbled cookies to cover the bananas from the next layer of custard, thinly cumbled cookies and a few thinly sliced bananas. No meringue for us!

I soooo appreciate you making your pudding from scratch. When I tell you this RUclips got on my entire nerves calling their pudding “the best ever banana pudding”, even “the best southern banana pudding” soon as the video starts I see that instant box of jello pudding 🤦🏾♀️.
I make it myself, just love to watch other cook and bake as well. You never know, you might see something you want to add to yours.

I've made many no bake banana puddings in the past but they just didn't have that distinctive taste I remembered. I never made one from scratch so this was the best video to me. I have been looking for this recipe for 40 years girl. My step mom made it just like you and it is TRULY the best way. She died before I could get the recipe. Thank you for being true to the old way.....it's the BEST TASTING!
The way my mom taught us to make nana pudd'n but she added sliced bananas too. 😋😛. The egg whites beaten, combined sugar and lil cream of tartar then spread onto pie ingredients and put into for maybe 15 - 18 mins to slightly brown. I haven't this recipe in all these years... Thanks spreading the tasty info. ❣️
Yesss Resa, this is very similar to how my mother makes hers, but with the meringue on top and placed in the oven until the top is slightly brown! I don’t like bananas, so I use to have her make me one without them. The best banana pudding is from scratch! Yours looks delicious! Blessings

I messed up and put 2 1/2 cups of sugar instead of 1 1/2 Cups and was sweet but After refrigerated it was really good. I ll try it correctly tomorrow. 😂

Good morning. Is it 2 1/2 cups of sugar or 1 1/2 cups of sugar. In the video, it says 2 1/2, but in the recipe, it calls for 1 1/2. Is it 2 1/2 because the recipe is doubled.
The description is correct. I made a double batch in the video.

I love your recipe. It makes more than the other recipes. So thank you for making it family size❤️ I saw another lady put her pudding mixture once she combined it all in the microwave bowl & in the microwave for 3-5 minutes on high then whisked for 5 minutes - she said it was so much easier because she scorched hers when using stove top & this works best for her.

I hope you and your family are blessed by your sharing of this video!!! 🙏🏽 Old School, homemade banana pudding is my favorite childhood dessert. My aunt would always make this for our family dinners. She make her pudding on the stove like you did with the exact ingredients, and when I got to help her as a kid I remember her telling me "keep stirring!! Keep stirring! Don't stop till I tell you!" She said it would stick and burn. Of course I never got to find out if it would lol. She would layer hers up in a long glass Pyrex deep dish and put the meringue on top then put it in the oven. Never really cared for the meringue... and to be honest, when she would make mine specially for me, she made it just like you made yours here without the meringue, and that way, the bananas didn't cook as much. She would use extra cookies for me lol.
Now when i make mine I use a mix of Nilla wafers and Chess cookies.
