I recommend watching the entire video-(I know it's long) but this will give you step by step instructions on how it is done. If you don't cook the pudding mixture long enough, it will be runny and won't firm properly - if you don't keep it stirred, it will burn. Thanks for watching!
    Ingredients/RECIPE:
    4 large egg yolks
    1 cup white sugar
    2 Tablespoons self rising flour
2 cups of milk (whole or 2%)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract, added last.
    Other Ingredients:
Vanilla Wafers (amount depends on the dish)
    2-3 Ripe Bananas
    (I use a 2 quart dish)
Layers are vanilla wafers, banana, pudding mixture, and repeat.
Allow to sit in the fridge for a few hours until firm and cold. Pudding will thicken a little more after it cools.

In case nobody else has mentioned it yet, to answer your question: One of the main reasons to wait until the mixture has cooled slightly before adding vanilla is because it will scorch and become bitter, defeating the purpose of the flavoring. Your video was lovely and you make it look so easy, even as a voice over. Great job on that by the way! Thank you for sharing your lovely Mother's recipe. *Blessings on Your Journey!*

What a coincidence that I found your video on the BANANA PUDDING today of all days. It's coincidental because I have my eggs, and butter tempering right now to make myself a BANANA PUDDING!!! Yes, I add butter after removing it from the heat, and I also let it cool to room temperature before layering. Personal preference. I'm a new SUBBIE. Enjoyed your calm!!!

The reason you add the vanilla extract right after pudding is thick because the vanilla flavor will actually cook out while it’s heating up.
Looks great! Very similar to my grandmothers 😄
