This is a great recipe. I do mine slightly different. I put all my ingredients cold including egg yolks, milk, sugar , etc in pot and stir over low low heat for at least 15 minutes or till thick. Then I take it off the stove, let it sit for 1 minute, then add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1/4 teaspoon of lemon extract, stir and pour over the bananas and cookies. Depending on whom I’m making it for, I’ll use the whites to make meringue. Um um good.

You never fully appreciate people until they pass away and when my grandma passed, she took all her wonderful recipes with her. I just assumed, like a lot of people, that she would always be there. Her banana pudding was something we looked forward to every holiday (because it took so long, like you said, she would only make it on holidays) and when she passed away, not one person could remember how she made it! I even watched her every time she made it, when I was little but could not remember exactly. I have looked at recipe after recipe for YEARS and could not find one even close to it. So I refused to attempt to make it, to not be disappointed. The only difference my grandma would put egg whites on the top and bake til brown on top.This has brought tears to my eyes because now I can make it myself and surprise my family and have the recipe to pass on to my son!

As a Southern Boy you would think I would love old fashioned banana pudding but I am not the biggest fan of it. Everyone one I know loves it. They say my mom makes a pretty good one. I went to a southern food restaurants where they were serving Banana Pudding however their Banana Pudding was so good. I told myself I can make Banana Pudding but only by using instant Pudding. I always make mine with box pudding because it is how I like it. People love my pudding and then judge me for not making it homemade. I know it is weird, but I have never liked homemade pudding. I felt like the sweetness overpowered the cookies. It is not that I don't want to, I just always thought it was too sweet. It doesn't look like yours will be overly sweet. I will try your recipe and see if I like it. lol Then I will have two recipes, one for lazy days and then the other for when I am not feeling so lazy.

This is how I make mine. The homemade custard made with some really quality vanilla is the way to go. Gotta put the meringue on top. Now that's cooking with gas and a whole lot of love. Thanks!!

I really admire you ladies with the patience to make your own custard when making your banana pudding. I myself have never attempted it but I can imagine it tastes amazing. I admit that I don't plan on ever making my pudding from scratch because honestly using the box is just simply too easy and my final product is amazing but I am glad that the recipe is here in case I ever feel adventurous and want to give it a try.
My mom whipped the egg whites spread it on top and bake til it was light golden...but I prefer it, with the whip cream. You did this so nicely. Thank you.

Is this milk carnation or pet brand? Or is it condensed sweet milk? If it’s condensed sweetened, would that be to sweet after adding sugar? This recipe looks so good.
About time finally I see someone who make it like my grand mother and mother used to make it before they passed. I make these all the time I'm making 3 pan for my Family's this weekend I'm form Alabama as well so this how my Family's in I do our Banana pudding and we use the the egg white for top of the banana pudding @Calibarna Cooking with Chef new to the channel Live in Florida now

This is how I make mine. The homemade custard made with some really quality vanilla is the way to go. Gotta put the meringue on top. Now that's cooking with gas and a whole lot of love. Thanks!!

One tip my mom suggested was to add a little lemon juice to the banana so they won't turn brown so fast

I really admire you ladies with the patience to make your own custard when making your banana pudding. I myself have never attempted it but I can imagine it tastes amazing. I admit that I don't plan on ever making my pudding from scratch because honestly using the box is just simply too easy and my final product is amazing but I am glad that the recipe is here in case I ever feel adventurous and want to give it a try.
My mom whipped the egg whites spread it on top and bake til it was light golden...but I prefer it, with the whip cream. You did this so nicely. Thank you.

Is this milk carnation or pet brand? Or is it condensed sweet milk? If it’s condensed sweetened, would that be to sweet after adding sugar? This recipe looks so good.

About time finally I see someone who make it like my grand mother and mother used to make it before they passed. When I showed ppl how I make it while they in my kitchen they say "they never had it like this they usually get there pudding from the store. This is the ONLY WAY TO MAKE THE REAL HOME MADE DISH.....
