Snape was like a dog with a bone, he never let it go.

Fully agree. I think often sympathetic villains or antiheroes are shown as good (or their actions are rationalized) through a tragic backstory. However, whatever has happened in your past doesn’t make an wrong deed right. It may make it more understandable, but it doesn’t make it right. I also love Snape as a character and acknowledge the good he has done. However, he has also done many bad things which many fans are prone to forget.

The weird thing about your videos is that I don't even need to pay attention to the words. Your articulation and voice just sends a good feeling through me. Love your videos!!

I agree with your point but I have something that I would like to point out. It really shocks me how much we get to know about Hogwarts from different generation yet somethings were never changed. Hogwarts is a school someone would expect certain people would be there to monitor student behavior to detect any signs of mental instability and stop bullying. I mean the students are constantly bullied by everyone and bullies weren't punished unless they cause serious damage. Mertyle was bullied so was Snape and harry and the others. And I think its disgusting to see people judging certain bad behaviors these people did and it is very stupid to also label characters as good or bad at all only in few cases it can be correct but in others its just stupid and pointless.

I was super worried when I first saw this post, and was ready to take my stand and make my arguments about why Snape deserved the praise and people revering him. But then I actually watched the video and realized that you feel the same way I do about him. lol So it's all good! I'm glad that people like you exist, who realize that there is balance. Not everyone is either "good" or "bad" and that people shouldn't be classified as such just because of a couple deeds. I like how Jack Sparrow put it. Norrington said "One good deed is not enough to redeem a man of a lifetime of wickedness.
" And Jack said "Though it seems enough to condemn him." And later we see that Jack is actually a really great person. Makes terrible decisions, but has a good heart. I feel like that's James. Made terrible decisions as a kid, but has a good hear. Severus, on the other hand, is a good person and made good decisions. But he is very bitter about his past and resents everything that happened to him. Not only that, he takes it out on people who had nothing to do with it, and punishes unjust and unfairly. And that really grates on me.
    Great assessment, I love it!

The problem with James is we're not SHOWN the change when we're SHOWN his bullying behaviour. It's hard to accept his change that way.

Lol, of course we don't see the change cause it's from Snape's narrow perspective, lol. :) The change HAD to have happened, it's pure logic if you've read the books. :)

@@TheGeekApprentice I know it had to happen, but it's hard to swallow as a reader when you aren't shown it. "He got better off-screen", while it make sense because of the circumstances of the book, doesn't make it any easier to accept.

    Well, I'm subscribed now. XD
I mostly just found myself nodding along to this one. Snape is probably one of my favorite characters in all of literature for how complex he is and how much he reflection he inspires in the reader once you know his story. But I can't say I ever thought he was a good person, even though he ended his life as a hero and had experiences in his youth that make his behavior understandable (though still not condonable).

The thing about James bullying Snape hits a bit too close to home. You see, I really relate to Snape being bullied. I could not even comprehend. However, I could relate to him being bullied in many ways. For one, James reminds me of so many bullies in my own life. His teasing strongly reminds me of the teasing many of my classmates tease me. Snape's reaction when James attacks him in the flashback in the fifth Harry Potter book triggers something in me. "Snape reacted so fact as though he had been expecting an attack." That line reminds me of the paranoia I often have around bullies and mean classmates who targets and belittles me. Having said that, I still agree with what you said in the video. It's just that I want to explain why I think people dislikes James.
