- In the second to last round of Pro Tour Kaladesh, two of the games greats battle for Top 8 positioning. It's Shota Yasooka vs. Reid Duke in the 15th round of Pro Tour Kaladesh.
shota and reid... two of my favorite players, this is wonderful!
26:08 Tyler Hill's messy board made me angry as hell.
That Shota play at 16:40
Masterful play from Shota, probably the best player in the past decade.
at 37:27 if Reid draw a selfless spirit he would have won, Yasooka should play the untapped land instead.
Shota really likes countering his own spells doesn't he?
In Hill's deck(49:28), some land cards which produce black mana were upside down....
Isn't that considered as cheating?
Sho Higashikata I was thinking the same thing
Yeah most of Hill's lands were upside down which is very sketchy, especially since it looks like no non-lands were. This plus the disorderly way he maintains the battlefield makes me think he was probably pulling a lot of shenanigans to make it this far. Easier to cheat when the board state is in chaos.
Damn that is such a good catch. Initially I thought maybe it was an accident but it seems less likely given they were all lands that tap for black… sketchy to say the least
Why wouldn't Reid guarantee the Gideon at 14:30 shota was tapped out he had a Gideon but played the veteran
Reid always getting shafted when he’s on coverage. It breaks my heart
40:38 Why doesn't Reid just attack with everything? Is there a Fumarole ready to block that I can't see?
The land furthest to Shota's left is a Fumarole, but even without that on the battlefield Reid did not have lethal damage.
This attack would have been very bad for Reid if Shota had any removal spell.
I was thinking the same thing until I realized that Reid didn't control any artifacts.
Why didnt Reid just animate his double strike lands for lethal at 38 min?
because he was respecting the possibility of instant-speed removal out if shotas hand. Loosing a land and a turn vs an awoken horror could have lost him the game right there.
Didnt think of that. (Just one of the many reasons im not in this video at all)
Could the lands being turned the wrong way be considered cheating?
Kayla Losch No but if you are uncomfortable with them being tapped the wrong direction and you are playing at an event feel free to call a judge
I meant they were facing the wrong way in Hill's library when Ishihara went through it at 49:25
Yes that is considered cheating as it stacks your draws. But every land would need to be backwards for it to be even considered, One card faced the wrong way won't get a judges call
Ajax Vibe I just noticed that the commentator pointed out that all his black mana producing lands were the ones facing the wrong way
5:18
Add a Neil Spiders?
Please don't
Wow. Tough games. Both players cool as ice.
13:50 Reid should have cast Gideon IMO after Radiant Flames. It would have sealed his victory and give himself a chance to T8.
No that's a bad play. Shota just uses harnessed lightning on the token, negates his own harness which flips the horror and bounces (destroys) the token and then awaken horror kills gideon and reid is left with spirit and motorist in hand and the game is over (shota has glimmer etc. in hand). Reid realises that to win the game he needs to value and protect gideon which is his only good card left in hand, and playing it onto a board with horror on 2 counters and Shota with 4 untapped land is just too risky (any combination of anticipate, galvanic bombardment, negate, harnessed lightning etc. and the horror flips).
8 zombies would not be a horde. It would be more like a family. I think 40 zombies is a small horde :p
and 5 are only a Group :-)
23:05 why not play gideon ?????
Plays Gideon. Gets eaten by Awoken Horror.
Chúng tôi mong các bạn sẽ giảm cấu hình của game Magic đễ Việt Nam được chơi cám ơn bạn
What basics are Reid using?
looks like ice age
that grixis deck looks fun
David Brooks it is fun and extremely good
Ethan Comer just need the decklist!
shota could use to confirm suspicions....
Long live control
What a bad misplay from Reid in game 2.. with Gideon in hand opponent at 5 and a copter ready to be crewed you have to cast Gideon + it and attack with t and copter and he wins easily
Gideon would still have summoning sickness if he just cast it on the turn thus unable to + it and attack with both Gideon and the copter.
Why don't you learn the rules before declaring that one of the best players in the world has made a mistake!
