This is the type of content we want to see on RUclips.
So for the nakamura throttle technique would you want a 1.5 way or 2 way LSD?
I’m not sure why you posted on this chaps comment, but for drifting a 2 way is usually the best option in my experience.
This is literally the best video I've seen in years 😍 I understood it completely. You're right it's super difficult to explain in words (even Japanese words 😂) but you did it very well. I learned a ton. I've actually naturally put some of these techniques into practice organically just by learning car control lap after lap it's cool to hear it spelled out visually. THANK YOU for this video! I'm a subscriber now
Fielding Shredder thanks man! Awesome feedback from an awesome dude! ✌️✌️✌️
All hail shredder 🤘🤘🤘🤘
"A thousand pounds, couple of thousand dollars, about twenty five thousand Australian dollars" is the most relatable thing I've heard in a long time.
Really enjoying these videos!
Keep up the good work, Mitto
Well...
Since I'm into drifting, and to be honest it's since I'm 13 years old, I very quickly understood that there is something to the Japanese style of drifting that made me really love drifting the way I still do today. But I never really knew how to describe it.
It's now 13 years later, that finally someone described it so clearly and perfectly.
Thank you very much for that Mitto, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. ❤️
Bruh you're damn right!!! I live on a small island where most drift knowledge I have to source it online because local drifters here doesn't know much apart from the basics and I've asked bunch of known west drifters online like, like hey how do you get the squat setup etc... they just keep it a secret like it was a damn KFC recipe, I've asked 2 japanese drifters that were kind enough to explain to me their general setups but for them its that normal to have the rear setup like that, they'll just tell you, " yea i just have a simple coilover set and nothing else particular" haha.. well know thanks to this video i understand everything i wanted to know! time to wrench haha :D @drift crash
This is on the money. The way that they breakdown each segment of a drift to where each thing can be perfected (and regional at the same time) is really fucking cool.
I've always had this gut feeling about drifting that I could never put into words. I've been drifting for only a year now, but I always FELT that the car should be set up the way you're describing it in order for me to get that Japanese style of driving the car. People called me crazy, stupid, etc. I finally have a video to send to those people to get educated, thank you for this.
We'll all look back at this video one day and realize how top tier this info was/is. Spoken so casually yet extremely informative for anyone that might even only have basic understanding of how everything seems to work. You've explained things more clearly and eloquently in 25 mins than others have with years and years of content. Keep it up man.
Burst Craft thank you brother, they are some kind words! 💖
This is the best contact ive seen on RUclips yet. Loving the channel keep up the awesome work
Loved this video, perfectly explains the reason to why i like Japanese drifting better than the typical "western" style of drifting. The japanese form of drifting is what i chase for on the simulator, agressive, snappy transitions, lots of grip and so on. Hopefully next year I'll be able to buy myself a car and start drifting, not just out and about on the wet and snow with the daily. lol
Loved the fact you mentioned Norway, winter over here is nothing else than skidding about, man, makes me miss my E39 525D.
Outsiders 2 needs to happen btw!
This has changed the way i look at drifting, love how in detail it is, and all the different potential ways to drift a car. Cant wait for BDC to start!
Engineering explained is worth a watch anyway, Jason does a great job of breaking stuff down to an easy to understand level.
Will be putting drift bible on the watch list.
Thank you for another informative video.
This is exactly what people need to take into consideration.
I`m studying Japanese and this terms will defenitely go to my vocabulary chart!
This Meihan technique explanation really helps me, my S15 came from there and it`s modded way differently than anything else I have ever saw. I still need to learn lots to perfectly control that monster!
Fantastic Mitto..... Thanks for taking the time to do this. Subscribed
I want to see more drift like in the Drift Bible, so smooth, the exits are perfect!
Smooth entries are not! 🤣
I remember seeing you from driftworks (outsiders) video 6 years ago. Good to see you back man! Your knowledge/experience from Japanese drifting scene is gold!
Paris Gounaris never left! 💖💖💖
Beautiful explanation having used both east - west styles, I liked the way you explained it for everyone!
To add something that Sleepy-san once told me for professional competitions "Most West drifting competitions are judged when you are on throttle in the track (powerslide), in Japan it's when you are off (slingshot) ".
Waiting for more videos!
Not style, technique, line and settings! I’ve not seen Sleepy in a long time, I hope he is well. He has a great insight into drifting, if only he drove more! ✌️
Re-watching in 2022 after getting back into drifting games on PC (mainly CarXdrift on PC) wanted to re-aquaint with the OG techniques to refresh the memory of the things I learned from you whilst RC drifting, mad to see how far you style has come in just 2 years, and damn, those rowdy SRs have fast become one of my fave sounding engines!
Love the video dude! I'm going to share this in our RC drifting group because it relates so much! Using the springs and the squat to snap, using throttle control and the correct gearing to gain speed etc. instead of just mashing the throttle and melt the tires.
Hands down my favorite channel on RUclips as of today , watched all videos including the one that was live at 7pm this evening . Love the content . So much insight into so many aspects of drifting / Japanese style . Thank you
I learned on an S15 helical for the first two years, Tried a welded for a season and had to go back to an LSD.. Been running a Tomei 2 way since 2013 and won't settle for less!
@Daniel Minic I've heard good things about nismo diffs. Never driven on the pro model though. Must be nice.
Honestly clutch pack LSD’s are the way to go. I’ve had my Kaaz 2-way for 15 years and it still does what I want it to.
@@griplimit .... Respect! That's a very long time.. How often do you change your fluid and what fluid do you use?
I appreciated the hell out of this. I understand the feeling of driving a welded differential vs a limited slip, but I’ve never heard someone explain the how mechanics effect driving style..
thank youuu! i've been drifting since 2007~ and i feel like i haven't learned this much in a decade, just kinda been wingin' it. i learned the meihan line and throttle technique in assetto corsa by trial and error and when i got it right i thought," oh wow there is something fundamentally different going on here," but i couldn't put it into words. kinda sad that i was able to accept that i "knew something" i couldn't explain, but it feels WAY better now being able to explain it to others.
i've had several people come up to me throughout the years complimenting my "oldschool japanese style" of driving and i was like oh what the hell, was i left behind? LOL oh well, feelsgoodman!
thanks again, much appreciated.
datkOOps it’s not old school man, it’s university! 😁😁😁
Man epic content! Never paid much attention to the Drift or import car scene at all. Always been a fan of Motorsports though (My Stepdad raced a Corvette in Escort Playboy Enduro Series back in the eighties). Would occasionally watch a Ken Block clip and be super impressed but the only Motorsport I was realistically able afford was motocross and now have one of the modern/classic Kawasaki 1200ZRX's that I'm setting up for track. However, during confinement I stumbled on a Papadakis 2JZ build and now I'm fricking hooked!- Devouring drifting vids and scouring thousands of comments daily for any nuggets of drifting gold! My fiancee is Japanese and we're moving back to her city of Okayama so looking forward to learning the track and set-ups with all the OG's that have been driving there for decades. Anyways the message of your video really touches on the essence of Japanese Culture and how they learn (which volumes have been written about). From purely a driving standpoint though the point you mentioned of action & reaction relates directly to a Judo throw and how they've practiced them for centuries. That is: thousands of repetition s and breaking down a move in different segments. Now of course with YT we're interacting with billions of people that offer their insights which often leads to branching out to other tangents. One comment mentioned C's Car Garage in NZ so I went to that a listened to the low-key Kiwi Adam talk about his Naoki inspired suspension set-up. Whoever mentioned that-thank you. Why? because Adam talks about how he was so focused on parts that once he obtained them he was bored. Lesson- focus on the art of drifting and not the gear! He was going back to stock lsd diff and knuckles with other Naoki inspired set-up tips.
So now my technical questions:
You mention how the The Japanese tend to flutter the gas. Any specific set up tips they like to use? i.e. boost settings or intake manifold tech. Second, I've watched Taguchi's Hoonigan yard run GoPro footage and the H-pattern dogbox with slightly higher e-brake seems super fluid- another secret to drifting technical tracks? Thanks again, subscribed, and will be watching future content!
KawaZRX Tsukaba wow! What a response and I’m very happy to have been part of your journey of learning. You have an interesting insight and I believe it will take you far my friend.
If your partner is Japanese and you speak some of the language, you will of course have a much better grasp of the culture and approach to things. BUT... do not overly concern yourself with parts, products or brand names. If you are new to the game, a simple car, with working components will be enough.
When do you plan on getting to Okayama? It’s a great place, I’ve been a couple of times 🙂✌️
Great and eloquent explanation. I’ve been looking for someone to put this in words. This is bang on.
Great info, didn't realise their was that much difference in setup between U.S/UK and Japan, brilliant explanations for setting up a corner entrance and technique, very rare to have an explanation that's on point and makes sense first time.
Thank you! Very interesting video! You are very knowledgeable on this subject 👍🏼
Excellent topic. Great execution. Dont hear enough talk about this subject. Very concisely put into words.
Dude, we just discovered you.
Thank you for putting all these things together. It will help a bunch of people knowing the right way. Mad props to you.
Loved the last part where you get emotional? by saying that we all should enjoy drifting. I almost wanted to hug you!!!! hahaha
Let's keep pushing, let's do our best!!!!
thanks again.
184garage, spanish drift team
184 Garage bugs are good... just not right now 🙈🤣 stay safe my friend! ✌️
I have been following and studying drifting for 10+ years and like 50% of this video was new info to me. The rest was alot of stuff I "knew" but could never put into words to explain to other ppl, the 3rd car rule especially! Thank you, well done! Subbed.
Awesome vid! Speaking specifically about Meihan, it's really interesting to see how the style has developed. Looking at footage from early 2000's Kansai Allstar, to Team Burst in the mid 2000's, to Naoki in D1SL late 2000's to early 2010's, and then to now. Then seeing how that progression has affected the rest of Japanese drifting. The shakotaka "movement" is also interesting to look at. Basically taking all these principles and pushing them as far as they can go. Such a rabbit whole but a really fun one, especially in these times with nothing to do. Excited to see your take on Western drifting!
This, exactly this. I wish I had money to give you for some cool illustrations and visualizations for people to understand directional momentum and such. Awesome content👍🏽👍🏽✌🏽
I’ve never heard it explained this way before. Thank u!
now this is the stuff everybody should learn or know about. loving these videos! Great job!
If there are things you may need from a media standpoint, feel free to ask me. I would be happy to help with supplying video clips.
Thanks man! Appreciated! 🙏🙏
Absolutely brilliant videos being put out here keep it up
Great video!! Thank you for breaking it down and making it simpler.. I understood perfectly well looking forward to the western style video.
By far one of the best explained drift videos I have ever seen! Great work!
awesome video!! shirtstuckedin has been hugely influential for me lately. loving to see the throw back style. im back to making drift liveries in forza because of you guys :)
canadian classics Casey the owner is a good dude and absolutely savage driver. I’ve got some really bangin pictures of his hi ace on my insta. heathen_defiance ✌️
Great vid.
As someone who is new to this scene, having already watched the bible and wanting to get into drifting properly (assetto will have to do for now though), this was deffo eye opening and gave me a lot to take away and digest.
This video has singlehandedly clarified so MUCH for me that it has reinvigorated my desire to drift .
I'm 44 and I have my very first real drift car a 95 S14 with an SR20det.
I don't want an LS engine . I remember first hearing about drifting back in the late 90s. And that is the style that I want to stick to. Real world tougue but at a track safely .
I don't need some 500hp beast I just want to drift learn perfect my technique and hang with like minded individuals! Thanks for the GREAT upload !!
Thats an amazing thing for me, thank you! More than anything else, I want to help people fall in love with the dori dori 💖💖
Awesome job! Thank you for breaking down the techniques that I want to apply to my RC set up. Excited to see more of the set up episodes.
Great video, as someone who's been into drifting for years, I knew alot of the techniques you are talking about, but to have them explained properly is very rare. You've done a great job of breaking it down. Really enjoy your content dude 👍
style isn’t a byproduct of driving, it’s one of personality
Are you thinking of body kits and wheels? Because I’m talking about driving style.
@@driftcrash2286 I think it also applies to driving style, and what people like. Some people actually enjoy 1000hp semislick cars mashing the throttle with a kilometre between them. Or so I have been told. And everybody is attracted to different elements of drifting, I don't mind less angle and speed as long as there are nice "pakin" transitions in between. And of course your local scene and circuit has a huge influence as well, and skilled drivers can and will vary their style and way of driving. Great video by the way, I also loved Outsiders and Soul RC and all that stuff
Drift Crash no i’m talking purely about the personality that one puts into their driving. the wya you put it sounded like it’s was just something that happened as a result of driving, but i think it’s individual influence.
This was an awesome video, good to know there are people out there that actually understand the finer details of technique like this and it's relationship to suspension set up. So many lost driver's out there, good to spread this info to help people. Too easy to just buy a bunch of parts someone recommended that will not help you achieve what you're trying to do and suit the car/track/skill level. Will be interested at watching more of this!!
Savage explanation! Really enjoyed the video!
I'd say this is probably your best video yet mate
Enjoyable watch dude. Have definitely wanted to try an LSD for the adjustment factor.
i can see your connections with team tetsujin and overdose. from my 4 years of drifting, i found out that real drifters still can learn a thing or 2 by testing on rc drift.
i wouldn't categorize this video as "beginner tips", as i think its pretty advanced, but explained in a "beginner" way. thanks for that, buddy.
subscribed.
How else do you learn unless it’s understandable? 🙂
More of this please. Even do some rc drift stuff and even footage of youself drifting
👍🏻Thankyou very informative, going to be a rewatch a few times to get yah head round it all. 👌🏻
Korogashi, tobashi..good old times of RC drifting.. ^.^
Marcel Fapšo same principals! Art imitates life right? 🤪
Great style comparison video, thank you! 🙏
This channel is the best 2020 brought so far. Thanks for the Deluxe Drifting Content! Btw Outsiders was one of the main influences for me going to Japan in 2019. Thanks again for that.
You are welcome and I sorry, in equal parts! 🤣💖
You need to stop this Mr Mitto! Your episodes are confirming things I’ve said for years but on a far more intelligent and dare I say it geeky level but this is a good thing. This episode taught me why I’ve always loved the Japanese style of drifting but didn’t know the mechanics behind why. This level of detail is hard to find, keep the good work up mate 👍🏻
Really enjoying the drift crash channel mate latest video is ace and I have taken a lot from it and the one with Julian was awesome he’s the reason I got into drifting met him at a drift day I done with my brother back in 2010 before I could drive he was there doing lessons and took me out in the 34 and I was hooked from that day forward remember him telling me about the drift bible and getting it on dvd before it was on youtube and watching it religiously lol
Keep up the vids dude really good
Hell yeah bro killed it!
Very informative!
subscribed 🤘🏼
Learning so much about the origins of drifting and techniques from these vids, keep up the quality content 👍🏻
So informative watched it 3 times to really take it in top quality content
Very interesting watch!
This is genuinely brilliant dude. Keep the good stuff coming!
Super well done video, really helps you dissect the true art of drifting. Fantastic production quality too
Thank you Mitto! stunning vid!
Love it mitto dropping knowledge and i may or may not have rewound that ueo clip four or five times, that version of his ae86 was so good especially when he was rocking the full set of MK2's in gold
Awesome video bro. It must be so hard to explain what comes naturally to a driver over honing a skill time and time again and then to explain that with factual words. It’s like trying to factually explain how to ride a bike.
Brilliant video keep them coming.
James Roberts it’s not that as much as making words that are “concepts” understandable for people who don’t speak the language. Takes a while to understand the Japanese completely!
Countersteer
Another awesome vid 👌🏻 fantastic content!
Absolutely class video mate, loved it! Never really thought about a lot of the things you mentioned, like the Japanese car's nose up stance in drift,so it was a definite eye opener! There's definitely a lot more to it than is apparent at first glance!
Keep up the good work!
Massive thank you. This is quality content! Well made, explained and the way you make it sound makes it easy to all of us understand 😉
jeez what a gem of a video. more people need to see this
This was excellent! I knew tobashi and korogashi from our times at SoulRC and various other meetups hehe. Wish there was a good place to go drifting around here :(
Great video I learned a lot! I wasn't expecting to see myself filming either haha.
Palmer Sanderson see yourself filming? Where at man? 🙈
@@driftcrash2286 21:13. Brandon Kado handed me his beater cam to get some clips for their video.
Ah jeez man, I’d have tagged you instead, I thought Will had filmed it 😬 I’m blaming Julian! 🙈 What’s the actual story and I’ll amend in the description. Sorry brother! 💖
@@driftcrash2286 I just meant I'm in the clip filming, not my content. All good!
Big up yourself - enlightening, concise, erudite and enjoyable. More of the same please boss!
Formula D and D1GP has become too commercialised. Like 'u can hit that clipping point and faster so u must be a better driver' but its so much more e.g. technique and aggression that makes drifting exciting. Thats why D1 Lights and Kansai Allstars are way more exciting to watch
Absolutely amazing content. I’ve been looking to understand what makes Japanese styling drifting and this is a great intro! Can’t wait for the next videos on it :)
Love this video, really clearly explains the techniques and why western drift (on the whole) looks different to Japanese drifting. Nice one mate 👍🤘
Very cool!!! Good way of explaining it man!
This is very spot on!
5:55 Sly dig at ML lol.. loving the technical content.
Corky 91 not an intentional dig, I was thinking much broader. Especially iPhone videos full of number plates and faces.
This is honestly brilliant, and you did an awesome job portraying the techniques! i cannot wait to see more
Wow, dude keep this content up, really makes your brain think.. loving explainations..!! Good shit my dude..!
Really informative video! Fascinating to learn all the Japanese terminology! Enjoying the channel man, keep it up! 🤙🏻
Thanks youtube recommends, awesome video. Subbed.
The flicks is insane
Love what you're doing man! Great content
i think i need to watch this 20 more times
Me too 🤦♂️🤣
Awesome watch for someone who's newish to the scene keep up the amazing work man 🥰
Mitto dropping knowledge bombs on us all. Love the content man. Would love if you went into more detail about how you have setup your car for BDC this year Vs how it was set up for the rockingham days
+1 on a setup guide
Will do at some stage. Focus on technique for now! ✌️✌️✌️
Mississippi Boys checking in. Finally we have a video to refer people to. Some people just need visuals.
Great content
Awesome info again. Funny I always thought of Japanese style as flick off throttle "sliding"
And western style as on throttle under power burning out. Learn so much every time. Thank you.
This was very very interesting thanks for the effort
Love this video! Super informational, and I'm sure it made/ is making the concept of drifting easy to follow for anyone trying to learn and get into the art! I know I did haha Keep them coming!
a good video to tag to this one is the D-Club machine tune up S14 video (Part 1 is where most of the good info is)
Also love the discussion and this type of content! keep it up!
Great video, I learned a lot!
Loved that man, awesome to learn more about Japanese styles
this is an amazing video.
This was actually very informative. I’ve never actually given this much thought at all. Thanks for the detailed video.
Welcome! Lucky to have a great bunch of friends to help with this sort of thing!
What an amazing watch, such an amazing level of knowledge. I knew the Japanese were very next level, but I believed it to be more of a history than a greater understanding ofthe “drift” I love it. It makes me want to learn more
Just found this, awesome video Mitto. 😍
Great video and explanations. I hope you do a more detailed explanation of how the front geometry of a drift car works, there’s a bunch of tricky concepts that are easy enough to learn and understand on their own in a traditional grip realm, but very little information on how that translates I to the actual dynamics in a drift car. Particularly around jacking and how it can be used advantageously etc
Stew Noble Films thanks man, appreciated. I feel I got across the basic concepts, but you are right, more is good! 💖✌️
Awesome video and great explanations. Definitely puts things in a good perspective for the western audience to understand the difference in technique. Glad to see that I was at least remotely correct with a similar video I made breaking down entry technique!
