Oh man! the nostalgia! When I was 17 I stumbled on this video.. at the time I had a NA 180sx, two other friends had 180sx's DET and another mate with a Honda civic who was the camera car. We would constantly watch this video over and over and head out and learn off this video! every weekend we go out and find a traffic cone on the road and take it and head off to industrial areas to practice. the amount of trouble we got into though, it was so worth it. You and Jesse were absolute gods to us ahahaha. Those late night kebab runs after a street sesh, you were the only prime topic we would talk about the entire night.. unfortunately since then the boys have parted and gone their own ways but the most important thing was we were so happy. we believed damaging our cars during street practice was a rite of passage and we kept them that way, it gave our cars 'character' we're in our 30s now and every few months we would catch up and still talk about you and the times we did some really questionable things with our cars. I'm so happy you're still doin what you're doin man! hopefully you'll make another tutorial for the new gens who will share the happiness we did. Keep up the awesome work!

Been drifting on the simulator for a couple years now, letting the steering wheel self align and catch it is the most natural way i found when learning drifting. When i started learning i never let go of the wheel entirely but i let it instead slip it through my fingers while still keeping a light amount of hand grip on it so i could feel when it's the right time to gently clench my hands and catch it. After a bit of practice and getting used to it, you can be smoother and smoother by just adjusting your hands pressure on the wheel as it spins and self aligns during the drift.
This is the kind of technique that comes most natural on drift cars and tight mountain roads, while if i were racing on faster but still twisty roads i would instead keep a good hold of the wheel and feel the tire grip that way, using throttle and brake to move the car weight around and initiate the 4 wheel drift that way instead of going for max angle, so one technique per kind of driving.
i'm no pro by any means and so far i have experience only in the sim but man that's fun, my favourite combo is the good old 86 for angle and something like a 70's mustang for faster and longer slides but with less angle on the Targa Florio map on AC. 70+km of twisty roads, no worries for fuel, crashing or the sorts, just pure fun, i highly recommend it.

    • @WHOOLKAN
      @WHOOLKAN Год назад +1

@@darksenshi1337 assetto corsa is the go to for drifting but also CarX, BeamNG are very good.
Just know that direct drive wheels don't work properly on CarX but if you have a Logitech or thrust master, you're golden.
Try different cars, the Toyota ae86 with the drift tune that comes as default in AC is a great place to start learning, jump into the drift map and practice there.
BeamNG is significantly more difficult because you have also extensive damage simulation but it can be very rewarding once you start getting how the cars behave and it's super fun even when you end up wrapping your car around a tree.
Look for ctoretto drifting tutorials, the dude explains pretty well the basics. Another one worth watching is TheSimRacingBloke (TSB) for expainations of the car dynamics.
If you've raced F1 you might know how do drive to the limit of grip and how to rotate the car in corners with brake and throttle control, the next step would be intentionally brake traction and send it sideways and learn how to countersteer to hold angle. Effectively what you're doing with drifting is steering the cars with brake and throttle to shift weight while the steering is for direction and adjusting the trajectory.
Low powered cars like the AE86 are the best to start learning, then once you get the hang of it you can try higher powered cars (300+ hp) for bigger angle, quicker transitions etc.

your driving was really good for the time. Would love to see a modern version, you're probably one of the most indicated people for that!

I have a collection of those drift battle magazines I used to go searching for them in my kp60 with a sick Kenwood sound system lol as hardly anyone stocked them. It Was where I first discovered Nigel Petrie and his black 180.

Drift Battle magazines!! I used to love reading those on the Toilet, an drifting a CA18 at Oran park. Man, that is some goooood, wholesome Nostalgia right there. I seriously miss this era of drift. Funny you should mention the oil going on the Turbo potentially starting a fire an the Battery shorting out. I had both these things happen to my car when learning to drift 😬🤐😂
I had one of those Supercheap plastic Battery boxes in the boot of my car, which was fine, initially, but when i started getting better an my entry speed increased to, ill say, a socially acceptable level, one day the Battery escaped an ended up on the other side of the boot. I was actually lucky it didnt go through the quarter window on the other side.

0:12 Thanks for making me feel old.
The white cargo pants was a interesting choice.
The OG accent sounds fine to me.
Aaggggh, I know that static sound.
I quite enjoyed this old video.
Modern version of this would be cool.

Couldn’t agree more with the LSD comment! I started with a welded and switched to a Kaaz 2-way after about a year and the level of control is totally different! LSD has helped save me a couple times on the wet especially.
