Good video Matt, very informative, nice to see some history being spoken about. Those early days seemed real special Keep it up. Also Alexi (Noriyaro) was saying the Tsuchiya video was incorrectly named Pluspy, they are the people who actually manufactured the video, but guessed that no one translated the actual name of it properly so it was called that. I think thats how it went.

Quinn from Canada here! I run a drift school here and it's always surprising to students when I try to show them that drifting started in Rallying.
Video was great, and I loved learning more specific detail and timeline to the history I know and love. I think some more diagrams and visuals on some of your more technical videos will help, but I know making my own videos on the subject, that is the hardest part. Good shit though!

Great video. I was putting my own thing together, learned heaps and I only noticed a few typos:
I believe the pluspy videos are referred to as the pluspy videos but they were actually titled "the touge" and they were in a series of films that were sold in stores. The pluspy name comes from the company that published the videos
And the initial d manga started in 1995 but the anime came out in 1998, moving overseas a few years later
    Extra stuff
Tsuchiya's first race cars were kp61 starlet and Nissan sunny. One of his very early road cars was a 4 door hako skyline
Tsuchiya got the drift king name from carboy magazine when he started drifting in the fuji freshman series. This was right before the pluspy videos
I believe there was a CARBOY event in 1989 where drifting happened and Tsuchiya did some demonstrations in different cars, including AE86 and Gtr R32 which was newly released at the time. Ae86s were very popular at the time or so I've read in a blog

It's really interesting hearing this put into words with that level of detail. I primarily think in terms of feel and geometry and on a subconscious level. I am hands on with my cars to the point where there's very few bolts in them I haven't touched and I've spent hundreds of hours online researching suspension geometry for both grip and drift (as well as just slamming highway cruisers on the ground). I've driven and slid cars with both welded diffs/spools and limited slips but didn't realize there was that drastic of a difference in technique. I haven't gotten my driving to that level yet so it's great to have some insight ahead of time as I'm trying to sort out my cars after trading off my old drift car. I ran an underpowered Volvo 740 with a welded diff and DIY coilovers that were a little too soft for two whole years of local drift events plus a bunch of street driving. Currently working on both an AE86 coupe and a turbo swapped Ford Pinto. Don't have a motor for the AE86 yet (I got it because the 4ac grenaded again) and the Pinto wasn't intended to be a drift car but it's much closer to being done and surprised me by actually sliding controllably on leaf springs with a bad alignment and front end problems. This really gives me more to think about as I was planning to run a welded diff in the AE86 like I had in the Volvo, but I've recently slid the Pinto with a clutch type LSD and really liked how it responded despite having leaf springs (albeit upgraded ones). Didn't quite know how to put the difference in feeling into words nor did I realize how much the diff actually played into that. I thought the difference was more from driving a turbo car vs n/a but there's just so many factors at play

@@driftcrash2286 Do japanese pronounce it the way you do in the video? Sorry for being a pain, but japanese pronounciation with kinda english words is entertaining and I am german, so a bit of wannabe overprecise by nature 😂

At the risk of sounding like a sycophant, drift crash is the highlight of my week.
Keep doing what you do buddy!
How about airing one of those ‘option’ VHS on the channel some time?

slammed66 haha that’s awesome, thank you 💖 Plenty of option videos are out there if you hunt on RUclips. I don’t even have anything to play my own VHS tapes with 🤣🤣

Fun fact “Pluspy” was the name of the shop/team he belonged to at the time & the filmmakers decided the movie name!
    Source: I dm’ed him @driftkingtelevision lol
