This would help me feel much safer. I've been watching all videos trying to learn before I set out to purchase one of these. Turning 65 April 6th and I was shocked about how time truly does fly by, too fast. So I am praying I will find one just like his van. something will appear that will be a true miracle.
You have the unit that is on the top of my list it seems like it's affordable and good all together for me it doesn't have to be perfect but I want one I can have trust in and that I will be able to fix the problems which don't seem to be many or major
Awesome! I subbed. Eternabond is great stuff but really hard to get off. Dicor is an excellent sealer... you can get it at Travco right near Metrotown. Take care brother!
One Awesome Inch thanks brother ! I had only seen dicor online from US sellers at the time and it was crazy expensive as well so I had to go another route. the I ended up taking Will Prowse's advice and using hot melt glue for caulking around the vent seams under the eternanond because he says in his experience it lasts much longer than traditional caulking. Good to know there's a local supplier for the future! My construction worker buddy was saying there's a type of sikaflex that works like dicor as well but I can't remember the name
Could you let me know the process you went through to purchase and bring it through the border. Have one to see in Portland and if I can bring it back with me to Victoria that would be ideal. Thanks! Blue
But from what I can remember (vaguely) you need to apply for an import number online. It's gotta be a certain number of days before you bring it through after you applied. That goes directly to their computer system. Not all borders handle imports. You have to look up the VIN on chassis manufacturer's website to make sure it doesn't have any recalls. When you buy it you want to go to the DMV to do the paperwork to transfer title to you and get a transit permit. Tell them you're bringing it into Canada. You want a bill of sale from previous owner. Then when you get to Canada you need to get it inspected and pass to insure it. It's very thorough inspection -every part from speedometer to seat belts to cracks in headlights or fading in marker lights, how do the drive belts look etc, so make sure everything has been super well maintained or you're stuck with a car you can't drive until you pay an enormous bill. You have to do the inspection pretty soon after you import it. Do some research online, find a shop that isn't going to rip you off. Canadian tire will. Expect to fail inspection first time, especially if it's an older vehicle.
According to OWENS-CORNING, any black surface absorbs 80% more heat when compared to the same white surface. The study was done by them for choices of color when choosing home roof and siding . White is the only way to go unless it never sees daytime or summer usage.
Just waiting on a couple interior touch-ups and for my exams to be over then I'll be making a video. the weather should be good by then. thanks for checking in.
Where is the video of the interior? Its been 5 months! I really really want to see what the inside of an islander looks like. Thank you. Nice video of a nice RV!
barely. for 3/4 of the year their ouput for the entire day is basically their wattage. So a 150w panel in vancouver overcast weather produces about 150w per day. In the summer it's more like 1000w p/day. fall, winter, and most of spring you're limited to running LED lights and your water pump and maybe charging your laptop for one hour. It's better to get a large capacity lithium battery pack that's lightweight and you can charge up somewhere and use it to top off your house battery
hey i just saw one come up on cragslist that's quite similar to mine model wise km wise vancouver.craigslist.ca/nvn/rvs/d/1990-islander-camper-van/6477255411.html
GT Lees thanks brother. While I can't hide its an RV I did everything I could to make it look unoccupied. It's stealth in the sense you can have full lights on at night and there's no light that can be seen outside from the vents or windows. Also the black out curtain looks like a van partition and so you can't see into the living space at all and you can't tell if somebody is in there or not. You can get away with this better in Canada than in the US from what I've seen on RUclips vs my own experience. Cheers and thanks for the comment
Right on, I knew what you meant, I was just havin' a little sarcastic fun. No offense intended. It is a cool rig that's in sweet shape and I would go to the same effort for it to appear unoccupied. All the best from Nova Scotia!
It's not too bad if you use the hood fan while cooking. cooking puts out way more humidity than my big buddy heater. have a fantastic fan that I keep open all the time. Eventually I want to put a smaller pulley on my alternator so I can run heavy appliances like a dehumidifier at idle. i have dri-z air too that came with the van but i haven't used it yet.
KundaliniKid I see, so you don't condense much overnight when sleeping then again you're by yourself, my wife and I live in can our van and it condenses a lot overnight I've just about put towels everywhere to trap some of that moisture but without being plugged in an RV park or have our generator running all night a dehumidifier would be ideal. We are three months in so still finding little tweaks to make it more comfortable.
How i reported it: "This video is incorrectly titled to include the word "stealth" which is clearly not. The use of this word makes in harder to find good examples of actual stealth RV's."
hi nicholas. stealth means something different to everyone. to me, stepping into a converted contractor's van that some would consider "stealth" isn't stealth. it's sketchy and draws police phone calls. ie. Why is someone getting into a contractor's van and closing the side door behind them? with an rv it's obvious why someone is going inside and they won't call the cops out of suspicion. as I explained in the video, some of the stealth factors of this rv is that it has a full custom sewn blackout curtain that looks like a metal van partition at night. when you park outside apartment complexes like I do near my university, it looks like whoever owns the rv is not inside the vehicle. also, all the windows have been fully limo-tinted and also reflectixed so as to not let any light out at all during the evening. the vent cover on the roof was painted opaque so as to not let out any light at night as well and allows me to keep the vent open all the time for ventilation without attracting attention. part of stealth is just having a rig that's in good condition. I was able to park around my busy university campus for a year without being bothered once with this setup. This is about as stealth as you can get with an any class B RV of the dodge era and this video is very clearly about a class B RV, specifically an Islander model. I'd challenge you to find a video of a dodge class b rv with all of the stealth features I have added. you're free to do what you want but respectfully I feel this is action is unwarranted.
@@TheHermitHacker first things first, "stealth" can mean different things in this context. Stealth as in "doesn't look like an RV or something someone would live in" or "doesn't look sketchy, overly conspicuous or would make locals feel unsafe if they noticed someone living in this" Class B RVs are typically the latter category, and for good reason In fact, it's clear that you want the first kind of "stealth" I mentioned, but no RV is going to give you that. A roadtrek 170 is probably the closest you'll get, but even then a cop or security guard is likely going to know what it is. What you're after is a cargo van or MAYBE a passenger van conversion... You won't get what you're after in an RV
reposting: Being stealth doesn't have to mean being unnoticed. Take a cargo van -that people typically view as stealth The fact is that you're probably more likely to get the cops called on you climbing into an unmarked van and closing the door behind you if someone saw. Highly suspicious.. My van is obviously an RV, and it makes sense why I would be going into it. The way I have designed the tinted windows and front blackout curtain, one can be in the back of the RV without any lights showing, and with the curtain looking like a divider behind the front seats, it looks like someone parked their RV their for the night while they're visiting a friend or that someone living in an apartment parks their rv outside.
Intelligent young man !

JJKHaywood thanks brother ! I've been looking for one for a year now that I could afford

D. Bert Rand the process differs depending on if it's more than 15 year old or not.

Thank you so much for the information.
I’ll check into it! Thank you!
Do a costume wrap to it, to make it more stealth....🚙
Brushed Metallic Black would look hot.
I'd prefer something white for when it gets hot in the summer. I'm gonna redo the decals and wax it this summer probably.
According to OWENS-CORNING, any black surface absorbs 80% more heat when compared to the same white surface. The study was done by them for choices of color when choosing home roof and siding . White is the only way to go unless it never sees daytime or summer usage.
Where is the promised inside tour? ;)

Those Class B Camper vans like that and the pleasure ways model are not good for tall people correct?
Hiw much did u pay for it? How many clicks?
Just in the market myself
Sweet van! Are the solar panels worth it in Vancouver?

Hey Johnson. The van sold earlier this year to a couple from Alaska. Thanks for the interest
Get a heat gun and take off the rv style graphics on the outside.
Cool ride man!
I've seen people do that. I'm not sure it would look good on this vehicle though.
Thanks brother!
KundaliniKid I just said that cause it would be more "stealth"
Still waiting for the interior video.
Lar Dal hey thanks brother I'll make one soon! Glad you're interested!
Lar Dal 😂😂😂
Hey guys weather is getting sunny now. planning on doing the video but I just want to fix up couple cosmetic things first. thanks for your input.

I dig the RV, it's great, but I don't think the owner understands the meaning of "stealth". Nice rig!

Nice rig...how do you deal with the condensation in the winter? I don't see a fan in there.

Paint interior White. It make it home like less drab
If u wanted stealth..u wouldnt have a class B or Solar..nice rig though
How the hell is this "stealth". I've reporting this video for being "misleading".
