Absolutely love your channel! Thank you so much for making this. This is my first time mounting a motor and I’ve had so many questions about what’s necessary and will be most durable. Thank you thank you thank you!! Can’t wait to get out on my excursion
Hi it's Jeff again. As I mentioned last week I bought everything I need or at least I thought I did after watching all your videos, but I realized I'm lost in one area..the battery, in every way possible. I am not mechanically inclined.. at all. And if I'm lost, it means others are too. I've looked everywhere online and can't find articles or videos on youtube explaining how to properly set up the battery and making sure not to fry the Minn Kota trolling motor. If you could make another video explaining how to connect ring terminal leads to alligator clips, what battery meter and circuit breaker you use and the name of the paint etc etc I have a group 31 battery or I would have just bought the Minn Kota power center battery box P.S. This video of you sitting in front of your computer and going over exactly where to buy everything etc really is a great way to teach us. If you don't have the time to make the video I understand but I can definitely tell you that lots of people are buying this Boat and motor because of you. It's going to be a fantastic and affordable escape from Covid world! 🤣 Thanks again your hard work is incredibly appreciated and your videos are fun to watch and I'm not easily entertained! Sincerely, Jeff😎
Thanks Jeff, these are more fun that "normal" boats! To this day, I have never used a fuse on the motor wire. When I first got mine I just bolted the ring terminal straight to the battery and i've never had a problem. Don't let the lack of a fuse stop you from going out. I started a vid showing how to build the box but there's a lot to cover! I'll look for links for the voltmeter and USB chargers and put them in the description. Those come with wiring and have the fuse already installed in the line. As far as painting the top, i just scuffed up the lid with sandpaper so the paint would stick then put a few coats of white using Rustoleum brand spray paint. I'll work on putting the vid together so keep an eye out!
@@ThePNW Ok great! For now I will go by what you told me. Thanks a million man. Too bad your on the west coast I'm in Long Island Ny lots of fantastic places to boat. We could of started an Excursion 5 boating club. A 100 boats floating behind one another like a motorcycle gang on the water 🙃🤣😂 Thanks again
Glad to hear you're using the 40lb Minn Kota. It's what I got for my Mariner 4, which should need just slightly less thrust than yours. (Only used once so far)
Just found your channel because the Lipo4 battery review on inflatable boat on our channel showed we are getting referrals from your channel so came over and subscribed to help you get more views. We are using a 50# trust generic motor. 100AH battery on a Costco inflatable. Works great!
I live okc, we go over to Overholster lake- Canadian river runs in there. Great for this and not to deep- i love it- go up stream to where the sandy areas are. I do not have flat bottom- use it standard with 45 trolling motor from bass pro, we tote a smaller inflatable boat to put a baby grill and supplies. Go out for the day and back. We only have to watch the winds here = that said go below 23mph mind is best. Sure beats paddling. I can take my floaty too in second boat.
I just bought the excusion5 and Minn Kota c2 30 lb thrust. I hope that works for me on small inland lakes in Michigan. This video is so helpful! I have the 30lb thrust Minn Kota C2 so I hope that is enough for me. I have two LiFESO4 batteries (35 AHrs & 18 Ahrs) which are light and fit in my battery box. I use the 35 Ahr for the Minn Kota C2 and the 18 Ahr for my Garmin striker 4+ sonar. If I do not reach my removal Port I will switch to 18 Ahr on motor to get home.. Your video was so helpful! THANKS. I have subscribed. 😀
I would say this; I got rhe 40lb for my slightly lighter Mariner 4. I like the power, but will probably use the top setting less going forward because of the power draw. While a 30lb might not be a ton of power for an Excursion, you'll be able to run it full speed for 3 hours give or tke. (Depending on what battery)

Thanks Don.. I actually started out with a SeaHawk and it was great. I had a 30-lb thrust on it and it was quick even with that motor so yours should be pretty fun. As far as switching goes, it depends what you’re looking for; the Excursion 5 can hold 1300 pounds (including motor, battery and passengers).
