Very nice methodology! I have been doing a similar system with modern books that I send to CGC to flip. I've sort of refined the system to send in 15-20 books at a time, which basically reduces the shipping per book to a very minimal cost. Then I just average together the grading, pressing, and costs of books themselves and I try to keep my total avg per book around $30-$35. Interesting that you came to the same cost per book: $34.99! I go strictly for 9.8's, and I've found that the average value of a modern 9.8 is $100, pretty much no matter what moderns you send in, you will be able to sell all the 9.8's for an avg of $100. So 20 books x $35 = $700 total cost, x $100 sales avg = $1500 in sales, if I can get at least 15 of 20 books back at 9.8. Great video! Reminds me of an RB3 analysis vid. Can't wait to see more from you like this!
Now I know your secret. :-) You've mentioned your approach previously in less detail but I think it makes a lot of sense. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and share. RB3's analysis are amazing. He focuses on some of the bigger silver, bronze key issues. I wanted to take a slightly different approach by touching on less expensive modern books.
Hi Regie, I am a new subscriber and have to say watching lots of you vids and learning so much, really really appreciate it all. I will be sending few comics to CGC for the first time and you have made a lot of my jitters go way. Knowledge is power!
Monir-Marcel Munir You are very welcome bro. I’m glad you are finding the content helpful. I have a video posted about shipping comics to CGC which may help too.
@@RegieCollects Yep, saw that as well and im excited to send some books to CGC. Just a quick question, how many books is ideal to send to CGC to reduce the amount you would pay for shipping? You may have answered this in one of the vids but I may have missed it.
Monir-Marcel Munir That’s not something that I’ve addressed. I tend to submit the max number of books for an invoice which is 25. That max number reduces my cost per book to the lowest possible amount. It also increases my overall spend because it’s 25 books. This has it’s pluses and minuses, right. The trick is to make sure that you send like-kind books. What I mean is that you want to keep the submitted books within the same tier and service level. Multiple tiers will result in multiple return shipments. Pressing one book but not pressing another will result in multiple return shipments. Let me know if this helps.
Glad you found the video helpful. Have you had a chance to check out my CGC submission process video? It lays out the steps for how to submit books via the portal. I also have a video that shows how to bundle your books up for mailing to CGC.
Very informative video. I've graded some books with PGX about three years ago, around the time when I was getting back into collecting comics. PGX was inexpensive and there was no need to purchase a membership in order to submit books. Back then I was very inexperienced when it came to getting books graded and decided for these reasons I would go with PGX. It was simply for archival purposes. This was also before I learned about top loaders and other methods of protecting my books. Since then I've learned more about the ins and outs of collecting (although if I'm being honest I'm still learning) through friends and other people in the comic community. This video has given me some insight into what to consider sending out to grade as well as whether or not it's worth the process. I'm still going to send out some of the many Skottie Young baby variants I have in my collection just because I think they would look great encapsulated!!! LOL!!! Great video!!!
Bro, I still feel like I’m learning. I literally have another RUclipsr schooling me on some things right now related to Original Art. Never stop learning. I’m glad that I could give you a few things to think about. At the end of the day, it’s your collecting so you’re going to slab what you slab but you want to go into with your eyes wide open. Good luck with those Scottie variants. They really are cool. I want to say I have a handful of them myself. Thanks for adding to the discussion buddy. If you have a chance, check out the the protection videos I just posted. I put up one about Mylites and another about comic book insurance. I hope you find them helpful as well. 👌🏾👌🏾
Nice nice. This is an older video but the process is still the same. If you search RUclips for “Regie Collects CGC” you should be able to find the updated videos. Again similar process. You may also benefit from the videos that I have to determining what to send as well as how to pack them. If you pull the trigger with CGC consider using my affiliate link in the description. Either way, let me know if you need anything. Just message me.
I like your idea of prescreening and shuffling the books...I was doing something similar when I was (and I still am) preparing books for CGC. I like the idea of figuring out the price and how CGCing it will affect it...and you are right...not every valuable book needs to be slabbed...a lot of times they tend to go hand in hand. Keys and grails tend to be the more valuable books and the ones we want to have slabbed.
I'm glad that I wasn't totally off base. You have these thoughts, ideas, approaches that work for you and you just hope that they make sense to other people. Thanks for the feedback and views.
Now that’s what I’m talking about. We don’t have to agree but also should not get mad if someone disagrees or has an opinion so long as it’s not offensive. I myself have never slabbed a book so definitely enjoyed this video. 👍
You should never be afraid to have a respectful conversation. I don’t need everyone to agree with me...if fact I love a healthy debate. Thanks for watching and commenting on the video. People seem to be responding well to the content. 👌🏾
Great info brother. I've never personally submitted a book. I've used a shop to do it for me in the past but I have a few books I'm going to be sending soon. So...when that times comes I'm going to sit down and take some notes.
Reggie that was a great video man! really good to see the methodology you employ when deciding what to grade and what not to grade. I may steal some of those ideas my friend....cheers
You are welcome to them bud....especially if you keep enhance the methodology. :-) I'm always looking to improve. Tell a friend too--if they can benefit from watching.
Great video Regie. Extremely informative. Forensic examination of books. Math formulas. Wow. Who would ever think that aspects of comic book collecting could be so scientific? There was one additional aspect of this process I would like to call to your attention. Is any book that you are considering sending in actually scarce enough to be CGC worthy? Example: I have 14 extremely high grade copies of ASM #4 first appearance of Silk. I mean 9.8 or at worst a 9.6 grades. When you look on eBay or the CGC census that book is everywhere. I love that book but I’m not sure it’s worth it when everyone seems to have a copy already. There wouldn’t be much purpose for me to encapsulate this book other than strictly to preserve it. Thank you for this thought provoking video. Very logical and well thought out. Keep up the great work. Thank you.
Thank you for watching bud, I appreciate it. I think the grading services have changed the hobby in both good and bad ways. I find myself taking a lot more time to inspect books that I am thinking about sending in for grading. I also spend a fair bit of time thinking about if a book SHOULD be graded or not. As I mentioned in the video there are lots of reasons to get books graded. Sometimes you want to hold them for the long-term and in some cases you move them forward. I don’t do much in the way of flipping books. I’m more of a buy and hold kinda guys but there are folks that like to flip books. Check out DS Comics’ comment. He basically flips modern books to cover the costs of getting his other books graded. I think it’s a really smart approach that allows him to keep moving his collection forward. In these cases, I’m not sure that scarcity matters versus timing and pricing. For me, I really enjoyed the Thanos series and plan to keep a couple of the 9.8s in my collection long-term. With that said, 9.8s can be hard to come by and may always have a willing buyer. I did a quick scan of ASM #4 9.8s sales on eBay. Those books are selling for $120-$154/each. If your total costs are around $35/book you can make $85-$119/book. That’s not bad money. Just my thoughts.
I was surprised when you talked about part 2. That was a nice methodology! I just sent a couple through cgc and I hope they return fine. They were lenticular covers but because I was anxious I just checked the front and back! It was my first time and I was excited. I hope they return in high grades. 9.2 will be the lowest that I can accept but if there’s nothing wrong inside I expect 9.8s. Thanks for this video.
Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing. As you'll probably see...I like to do things al little differently on this channel. Sometimes it works out..other times I crash and burn. LOL. Good luck with the submission. I have 16 books myself with CGC. One of them is a major key that I'm waiting for them to mail back to me.
Just went to a store today to send in some books, and was advised by the to not send most of books in because of money. Watching this, and hearing your comment at the end. I wish I would have sent a couple more than the one I sent in that he said would be worth it
Have you thought about getting your own membership? The cool thing is that with the premium membership you pay $149 and get a credit for $150. This should be enough money to grade a handful of modern books which improves the math. You also get 10% off grading and you’re in control of your books. Just a thought. If you decide to pull the trigger, I have other videos which walk you through the CGC process, shipping, etc. You can also message me and I’ll give you additional thoughts.
@@RegieCollects well thanks man I really appreciate that, I have thought about it. I just wanted to start off by trying one. I will have to look back at your other videos cause the big thing for me that I was bummed out about was I have a signed Todd Mcfarlane Spider-Man #1 and the owner told me not to send it in cause I was gonna get a green label. I can message you too if you wanna talk more about it
Thanks for watching bud. I appreciate it. Hopefully we can get you off the fence one way or the other. Let me know what you decide and if the video is helpful. PS. Tell a friend who can benefit from seeing it.
Great video. Might I add that it is a good idea to chart the past 3 months sale price of a comic if possible. Turn around time for books can be 90 days and what a book sold for last July may not be very relevant next November. Charting prices will give a better indication of where a book may be when it finally returns from grading. Great info and solid work.
I was thinking the same thing. I loved the video and the content, but people have to watch what they do on modern books. Take care of them and put them away for a couple of months to see if the value is maintained. Or, if you’re a flipper, get it to your favourite grading company ASAP! :)
I agree with you with the final comments. Send those comics in for slab to protect them and to provide my children a rough value of the comics when I passed away. With that being said, I only submit Silver or Golden age books since those comics are very fragile and have the highest value. For modern books, I rarely do unless I bought them at a good deal in slabs or they are exceptional rare books to get like TMNT # 1 or Cerebus # 1.
Great points. There is another video where I provide some guidance on determining which books to submit to CGC based upon cost vs value. That video was done shortly after this one was created and both were done several months ago. It may be time for some updates. 👍🏾 How many kids do you have? My hope is that I’ll get at least one of mine interested in the hobby. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.
PartyTime Comics Good stuff. I have a video called step-by-step which walks you through the submission process as well as a video on shipping to CGC. The submission process has changed slightly since I recorded this video but it will still be helpful. If you can’t find these videos let me know and I’ll post them up. Also, please consider using the CGC affiliate link in the description of my videos. This helps offset some of the channel’s costs. I appreciate it.
Agree totally. I sent in 8 older marvel/Curtis b/w comic mags to be graded. Deadly Hands, Creepy,Eerie, Vampire Tales etc etc. I thought I was a good grader but CGC goes into so much detail. I got hit a lot for foxing, finger bends, a few other things so yeah you need to really look through your books before you send them in.
Hi Regie! It’s me again. You mentioned a fee of $8.00 for a quick press. I am not aware of what this actually does or why you would need this for a potential 9.8 candidate comic book. Could you please elaborate on what this about.? I am not familiar with this service or why you may need it for near mint books. I am learning new things on your channel. I am a collector for well over 35 years but have never actually submitted a book to be graded. But I have a lot of books I am considering for encapsulation and grading. I want to get in the game. Thanks Brother. Greatly appreciated.
Thanks for taking the time to watch my video and ask me a question. I appreciate the questions. I’ve learned that even modern books can benefit from a press because they are not perfect. New books aren’t handled with kid gloves and can have minor defects and imperfections like wavy paper and non-color breaking bends. When selecting books to submit I look for these things but they also have to be mailed via the post when I send them to CGC. I would hate for a minor handling mishap to make a 9.8 a 9.2 or worse. It’s worth it to me to pay a little more money to have CCS (division of CGC) to press the book. CGC offers two kinds of press. A quick press is one that removes minor imperfections that could be found on a modern book. Older books may require a more expensive pressing. I can recall the name of this service but let’s call it the unQuick Press. This service is more extensive and may require the book to be pressed a few times to remove/correct all of the defects. Think spine roll..heavy creases...impact dents. Check out CGCs website for examples of what a press can do for a book. I know a lot of people use independent pressing services but I want to mail my books once-straight to CGC/CBCS. People have really strong opinions about pressing. Old school guys hate it. I think it’s a great service. Let me know if you have additional questions. Also, check out my lingo series where I talk about press, cleans, spine ticks and other defects that can affect a books value.
Great informative video bud! I've been thinking about sending in my Amazing Spiderman #2, 3,4,5,9 and 20 for grading.. And eventually my #129. I love them raw.. But mostly thinking about their future condition... It's best I get them preserved. I haven't personally sent in any books for grading yet.. So I'm new at this.. It just sucks that I won't be able to ever open them up again and flip thru them if I choose.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I'll make you a deal. Send me those books. I'll hook you up with a Marvel Unlimited subscription for 2 years PLUS some cool reprints of those books. LOL. Seriously, if you're concerned about not being able to open the books--which I respect--you can always slab the books yourself so you have the option to open them. I think you can also purchase the microfiber that removes the harmful gases from preserved books. The self slabbing kits can be purchased from comicskin.com. You can always go with mylites or top loaders. Slabbing books isn't for everyone and I totally get that. Here are two other videos that I filmed on the topic: ruclips.net/video/oIsNYAwZh6w/видео.html ruclips.net/video/gFlRRIzJMs8/видео.html Whatever you decide, is the right option for you. Even if that involves you sending those books to me. :-)
metalmaniac dm 🤣😂🤪 Those are great books my man. I hope to snag them at some point. They will look great next to my ASM 1. Thanks again for watching and commenting on the video. Let me know what you decide to do with our books. 😏
Regie Simmons IFBB Pro haha I sure will key you know... You'll see my posts on Instagram when I get them back from CGC if I so choose. And your Amazing Spiderman #1 would look so beautiful next to my amazing Spiderman #2, 3,4,5, and 9
Just to add to this great video... never send in a Polybagged book. Learned this the hard way as well. Take it out and look at the back cover. More times than not the book will have a line crease from top to bottom from the plastic seam.
How would you differentiate the process if it is a silver age book? Estimate the range of grade possibilities and do the same Ebay sold evaluation based on a few months data since the book might not have sold as much as a modern 'hot' book?
I need to think more about it but off the top of my head the methodology still works. You still need to guesstimate the grade potentially comparing the raw book to other graded books that you can find online. This comparison may help triangulate the grade. Personally, I wouldn't rely solely on eBay sales because that represents only part of the market (versus gocollect, or GPA) but that's totally your call. And, to you point I would look back maybe 3 months to arrive at the average FMV. You may want to adjust/normalize the FMV based upon any crazy outliers (e.g., really low or extremely high sales).
Thanks for watching and for the sub. You can pre-screen for any grade but there is a 25 book min. if memory serves. I've never used pre-screening but my assumption is that you can have the books pressed before the screening. Books above the requested grade will be graded and those below will be assessed a $5 fee. You may want to email or call CGC to confirm.
Great job I just had sent three of my books to cgc and the only way you can send the book's is United States Postal Service FedEx or UPS will not take it which I did not like that but it is what it is but coming back you can receive it through FedEx which is a little crazy but anyways thank you for taking the time to do this video it really does help
More great comic info. Thanks, Regie! It seems to me, as far as buying graded comics, if you can get one for less than $40-$50, especially a 9.8, then the seller really isn't making too much off the book. The more I watch these videos, the more I want to get into some graded ones. LOL Even if it's for no other reason than having a nice display like I see in many of your videos.
It depends upon the seller and book. Keep in mind that folks get different discounts with CGC (not sure about CBCS) and they can save money by pressing themselves, shipping in bulk, etc. But, yes, generally speaking not a lot of money if they are selling $40-50. If you pull the trigger on a membership, make sure that you click that affiliate link in the description of my various videos. :-)
Hey Regie, great video, very informative on how you go about pre grading and nice to see you showed actual costs. My question is, first I have never sent in a book for grading but would love to get some slabbed. Is it normal for cgc to do a quick press or is that something I need to ask for. Im asking because I reached out to a person on IG offering the cgc service and they said unless I get my books pressed also that they were not accepting new orders. The majority of my books are early 80's to current. Thanks for the vid!
During the submission process you decide which options you want (eg pressing). Personally, I would not submit a book that hasn’t been pressed/cleaned. The reason for that is because I want the best possible grade. Yes, it’s extra money but an important step in my mind. The pressing can be done by yourself, a third party of CCS. Does this help? Feel free to message me on IG to talk more. If you decide to pull the trigger consider the using the affiliate link in the description of my videos.
You have a great methodology and I love the way you break down the net value. One thing I think you forgot to deduct is the cost of shipping it there. I typically have to make sure grading the book is worth it. If I want to really protect a book - say Thor #390 (before Avengers Endgame it was one of my favorites before it became valuable) there are hard plastic protective covers available - unless you want to really get it graded. Anyway, that's just my 2-cents.
It's a "value added" business model. One quick thing to add: The Opportunity Cost of your investment. Your money is tied up sometimes for a long while before you get it back. Mis-time a Fluctuating market and margins can go straight to fees and shipping. It's the "risk" variable. So, I agree with your worst case scenario approach. With that said, it's why I choose to invest in comics for the fun of it. And maybe a little something to share with my budding artist daughter (and someday leave for her to enjoy).
This is great! Thanks for posting this! I am new to the whole grading thing. I will check out your channel but do you happen to have a walkthrough for submitting your comics? I experienced my first CGC grading at Baltimore comic con. Doing it at a con seemed pretty simple besides the long lines but at least CGC will take control of my comics there. I am just very worried about submitting my comics through the mail
I’m glad that you found the video helpful. That’s exactly why I created it. I have 2 videos that focus on packaging comics up to be sent to CGC or anyone else for that matter so you might want to check out that playlist/video. I’ll try to post a link for you in a second. Let me know if this is what you’re looking for or if you need something else.
Why would eBay and PayPal fees be added? The seller typically pays the fees, correct. The buyer would incur fees if they pay via card versus a balance on hand. By the same token should you deduct eBay buck credits? At the end of the day, this video is designed to give people a starting place to determine what should and should not be graded. It can be as complex or as simple as one would like. Thoughts?
My method is simpler than yours. If I'm planning to sell a book, if the value of my conservative estimate of the book's final grade is $40 or more higher than what I could reasonably expect to get for it in the raw, it's worth doing. Good informative videos by the way.
I've been debating sending a PGX graded McFarlane autographed Spider-Man to CGC, but I'm so afraid that the 9.8 grade is going to drop to a 9.6 or a 9.4. It was really the first comment that I ever bought off eBay and I didn't really know much about PGX graded books.
It’s a tough call because the grade could drop and you will get a green label. Cgc does not verify signatures so you’ll get a green label versus yellow. The grade could drop but it’s hard to know for sure. Was the book pressed before it was graded by PGX? If not, a press and clean could help keep the grade high. If it was me, I’d leave the book in the PGX.
Thanks for making the video. My only complaint is that you are using figures based on a 15 book send to the CGC and that is not stated. One of your viewers sending one book will be spending around $75.00 per book with shipping and fees.
When I first considered submitting a book I was only looking at the potential value of that book slabbed at a high grade. But there’s a couple that have not much value at all that I look at and I’m just thinking...dang, I’d like to see that encapsulated lol is that bad? Have you ever sent one in just because you wanted to?
I’ve sent in a lot of books to be graded because. That’s it. Because. Yes, there is a dollars and cents argument to be made about getting comics grade but there are other reason to do it as well. This hobby is meant to be enjoyed and it shouldn’t always be about money. Do what makes you happy bro. Here are two videos that you mind find helpful. It’s best to think of my videos are story arcs. I tend to address a topic from lots of different angles. ruclips.net/video/gFlRRIzJMs8/видео.html ruclips.net/video/oIsNYAwZh6w/видео.html Hit me up if you have any questions. IG is the best way. If you’re thinking about getting a CGC membership, consider using the affiliate link in the description of my videos. A few bucks goes back to the channel. Also, there are other videos on the channel about the CGC submission process, determining the declared value, shipping, etc.
I really liked this video but the only error in your calculation, in my opinion, is the absence of being conservative with your grading. There is a chance that you may not get a 9.8 on these books, for one reason or another. Either you missed a defect on the book or something could happen during the handling process at CGC and they could accidentally damage it. Don't you think it would be wise to do your exact same analysis at a grade of 9.6, just to be safe?
Great observation. I think you should make whatever adjustments to the calculations that you feel should be made. I think people struggle with how to grade comics and I didn’t want to complicate matters even more.
This does help. For some issues I own, I want to know their grade and sell them to make a profit. Others, I want to preserve them because they're important to me. I mostly have 1 copy of each comic instead of multiple. Can I ask which issues (I currently own) would be ideal to get sent to CGC?
George J Ferrio Thanks for the message. I can certainly try to help but with the formula in the video and a pricing guide you should be able to roughly figure out what to send or not send. With that said, happy to help if I can.
@@RegieCollects Okay, thanks. These are ones I was thinking of sending to CGC (I have only one copy of them): •Edge of Spider-Verse #2 (I have all 5 issues of this miniseries) •X-Men (Vol. 2) #2 •Battlestar Galactica #1 (by Marvel) •Fantastic Four (Vol. 1) #132 •All-New Wolverine #1 & 2 •Vision (Vol. 3) #1 •Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 3) #1 •Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 4) #1 •Amazing Spider-Man #800 •Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 5) #1 •DC Rebirth #1 •Marvel Legacy #1 (Alex Ross Color Variant Cover) •Thor (Vol. 5) (Russell Dauterman Design Variant Cover) •Mighty Thor #700 (both original cover and Stephanie Hans Legacy Variant Cover) •Immortal Hulk #1 •Totally-Awesome Hulk #1 •Dark Nights: Metal #1 (Midnight Release Variant Cover) •Multiple DC Rebirth one-shots of various titles Two other questions: 1. Are lenticular covers worth CGCing? I've heard mixed opinions. I have several more lenticular covers for other Marvel Legacy titles 2. I know the 1st issues of famous runs are worth a lot. What's the opinion on the last issues of famous runs. (E.g. Amazing Spider-Man #801 (Dan Slott's last Spider-Man issue) or Incredible Hulk #635 (end of Greg Pak's run) or Saga of the Swamp Thing #64 (end of Alan Moore's epic run)? Sorry if I'm asking a lot
Well I have a question for ya. I am getting back my first submission and I saw I got a 9.6 when I was hoping for a 9.8. But being my first try, I didn't clean or press or anything (new to this and submitted before I found your channel lol). The value difference between the grades is barely what it would take me to submit the book again, but I'm not sure I'll ever sell it. Is it worth it to resubmit a 9.6 for just that little bump? I know its personal opinion but I'm bummed I didn't get that 9.8 lol
I wouldn't. I technically have never re-submitted a book for re-grading. With that said, I have books in my collection that could benefit from a clean/press. It's just not worth it to me--especially if the dollar amounts between a 9.8 and 9.6 are small. And, if the book will stay in the PC. Hope this helps.
I sent some books into cgc recently. I did not give the cover and back of each book a cleaning, was that a mistake? could not cleaning a cover & back of a book affect a grade of a modern comic?
A dirty comic will absolutely effect the grade of a book regardless of the age. Fingerprint smudges will hurt. Fingers crossed that you get good grades.
I'll probably watch this three more times before I actually grade any. What does one do when a trading card was given with a book? Do they grade and slab them separately?
Books cannot be graded in a poly bag, nor can they be graded with a card or poster. Good luck with the journey and check out the CGC submission playlist. It’s full of helpful videos.
This video is from more than two years ago when press was $8-$12. Here’s my pressing service that was rolled out a few weeks ago: ruclips.net/video/jpl3phd5Sqs/видео.html It’s a 3-part series. Thanks for watching.
Hey Regie, Question: Have you ever resent in a graded Comic book because you didn't agree on the grade? or maybe you felt if it got pressed first the grade would have been higher. This is where I am now. LMK. Thanks
No, I've never done either. Grading is part art and science and to this end I try to employ science to minimize the artistic side. The first step is really a full inspection of the book so that I know what I'm sending. I try to be aware of defects and how that defect will impact the grade of the book. Once I have an understanding of this, I have the books cleaned and pressed being sent to CGC. With all of that said, I do have books in my collection that could benefit from being cleaned pressed and regraded but there is always time to do that. Put another way, I don't want to tie up more money in a book that I already have.
@@RegieCollects Thank you for you quick response. I fully understand your point. I am not a collector, just a old fart that wants to preserve his youth collection to get the best value for his grandchildren inheritence. Being new at this grading thing, it looks like I made some mistakes. Thanks again.
Hey Regie. Because cgc decided to temporarily allow free members to submit books via mail, I have decided to ship off four of my books to cgc as follows in order they appear on the slip: Amazing Fantasy #15 Facsimile Amazing Spider-Man #361 Walking Dead #193 And Daredevil #181. Packed them using the brick method you showed in another one of your videos they wont be damaged by shipping. I can guarantee. I shipped the books in question to cgc about 2 days ago. Tracking info says it was delivered to their P.O box today and It isnt showing my submissions on the cgc website. Do they wait a few days after they receive the package to start the grading process? I'm asking you because you have way more experience then I do with CGC. I've got the anxiety that even though i entered the address correctly on the package that It might get lost or delivered to the wrong place. Thanks again Regie. Love the vids!
It will take 1-2 weeks before the books shows up in the system. You have to think about the number packages that CGC must get on a day. Everything single package has to be received, opened, recorded, manually entered into the system, placed on the vault, etc. It’s not a quick process especially with covid-19 blah blah blah. If you addressed it correctly, confirmed that it has been received at the PO Box, you are probably in great shape. This is your first shipment so I know those emotions. It will be fine. 👊🏾👍🏾
@@RegieCollects I appreciate your quick response to me so fast. I never considered what the scenario was on cgc's side. Makes sense now with all of those things taken into account. (I'm not usually a patient person but when I can confirm through the cgc site that they're there safely and not floating somewhere around Florida I will be way more comfortable with waiting the month or so for my books.) When the est time of grading was 20 or so days on the website I thought they would get to it right away based on how the site worded things. I probably wouldn't have even considered grading as something I'd do if it wasnt for your videos on grading. Thanks again. 😄👍
It’s all good. I’m happy to help bro. The site use to say “business days” but maybe it is truly 20 days now. I just check the website and noticed that. They’re always making tweaks. 😆 Glad you found the videos helpful. 👊🏾
Thank for the link and the info. I guess. I start by grouping them according to their age. So, CGC will press 15 books for $8 or do they charge $8 per book?
As mentioned this video is old. Some of the rules have changed and so have prices. It will be best for you to refer to the CGC website for the most up to date information. With that said, the charges are per book.
Wow this was really helpful thank you . So I have a comic that I bot it's and I want to ship it 2 cgc and the condition of it is fvn/8.5 so do you think it's a good idea ??? But I am a free member but I can stil submit comics right ??
Glad you found the video helpful. You have to do the math to determine if it makes sense to send or not. Check out my dirty grading video for additional details. And, yes, CGC is allowing free members to submit books but I would encourage you to check their website to confirm.
Still an unacceptable turnaround time no matter what IMO for CGC. Makes me hesitant to send in books particularly many and be without them for as long as 6 months!
6months? Are you talking about CBCS? CGCs turn around isn’t 6 months. You can get modern books turned around in about 27 business days and 11 if you fast track. You’ll have to factor in shipping too and from but it’s not 6 months. This information comes from the CGC submission portal.
Probably my fault as a newby in grading. Send about 20 books last July with 16 of them to be also pressed and cleaned. I think that took most of the time. Did not receive the entire amount back until January. Did not do fast track however and did get the regular graded ones back sooner but still not for a couple of months.
Yes and no. Anyone with a membership can submit. The free "membership" only allows you to submit at conventions. The next level level membership is $25/year and allows you to submit online. Check out the prices at www.cgccomics.com/join.
I think a lot of the cheaper collectors like me might sway the market. Let's be honest if you really want it and it's prices right you will buy it. PGX or CGC lol.
Well you are going to really shake your head . I sold a few comics on eBay, and they sold very quickly after I listed them . I took lots of photos , and really had no idea how to grade or anything . Long story still long lol I didn't charge enough based on the Excellent Condition they were in . Lost some money . Sold both at half the value . Vampire Tales #1 at $90 and Vampire Tales 2 at $50
Ah ok. It happens. It’s definitely a lesson that you won’t forget, right? Grading comics isn’t easy. Have you had a chance to check out my CGC tip video on grading? I also have videos on shipping comics safely. If you need anything just hit me on email or IG. 👊🏾
6:15 or so, I do the exact same thing to check condition on multiple copies of a book. I do it when purchasing off the shelf in the comic shop too.
👍video...just joined up with CGC and am planning to start sending some Comics in...nice strategy on which ones to send in,you broke it down real easy.
Thank you Professor Reggie!
That was a good lesson. I feel like I’m on the cusp of sending my first item to CGC.
Me too! Feb might be the month
I never sent any books to get graded so pretty nice information to share with the community!!
Thanks for watching Miss Hustle.
Thanks for the video, I want to bundle and ship as soon as I get some time. Wasn’t a 100% on how to determine the FMV until I watched your video.
# Closetgeek Glad that it helped. Let me know if you have questions.
Great info brother. I've never personally submitted a book. I've used a shop to do it for me in the past but I have a few books I'm going to be sending soon. So...when that times comes I'm going to sit down and take some notes.
Boom! Thanks for watching and hope it helps when you're ready.
Out standing job reg. Very helpful for a green horn and totally appreciate it!!!
You are welcome. I have a few more videos coming out soon with some additional tips and things to consider. Stay tuned.
One of them is a major key that I'm waiting for them to mail back to me.
ok that was more in depth than i was expecting. great job. i learned something and will definitely apply it on my next batch of books i send off.
That's a good thing, right?!? I tried to keep it practical.
Wow, this video is amazing. Thanks for making this, it really helps.
You are welcome bro. Glad it was helpful.
I can message you too if you wanna talk more about it
Great video Regie! Loads of valuable information. Thanks for sharing
I try. :-) Thanks for watching and commenting.
Hey thanks for doing this video, I’ve been on the fence of sending several books in and this was helpful insight or perspective, thanks Reg !
Great additional element.
I was thinking the same thing. I loved the video and the content, but people have to watch what they do on modern books. Take care of them and put them away for a couple of months to see if the value is maintained. Or, if you’re a flipper, get it to your favourite grading company ASAP! :)
See Saw Collectibles well put.
See Saw Collectibles Solid point. Thanks for commenting to provide context around short-term versus long-term.
How many kids do you have?
My hope is that I’ll get at least one of mine interested in the hobby.
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.
Thank you for this video.
PartyTime Comics You are very welcome! I hope that it helps.
Do you already have your CGC membership or will this be your first submission?
@@RegieCollects this will be my first time using cgc
PartyTime Comics Good stuff. I have a video called step-by-step which walks you through the submission process as well as a video on shipping to CGC. The submission process has changed slightly since I recorded this video but it will still be helpful. If you can’t find these videos let me know and I’ll post them up.
Also, please consider using the CGC affiliate link in the description of my videos. This helps offset some of the channel’s costs. I appreciate it.
@@RegieCollects done!
Reggie (Dj Khalid) voice, another one! Lol 👍🏽Thanks Reggie!
You got it.
Yes, sir. I’ve only made that mistake once. It’s a learning lesson. Have you had a chance to check out my interview with the head grader from CGC?
@@RegieCollects i have not but i will check it out!
Here are two other videos that I filmed on the topic:
ruclips.net/video/oIsNYAwZh6w/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/gFlRRIzJMs8/видео.html
Whatever you decide, is the right option for you. Even if that involves you sending those books to me. :-)
Regie Simmons IFBB Pro so what I got out of all that is I should be sending you my books! Hmmmmm makes sense to me!
metalmaniac dm 🤣😂🤪 Those are great books my man.
And your Amazing Spiderman #1 would look so beautiful next to my amazing Spiderman #2, 3,4,5, and 9
metalmaniac dm I see what you did there. 😏 Well played, sir. Well played.
Just to add to this great video... never send in a Polybagged book. Learned this the hard way as well. Take it out and look at the back cover. More times than not the book will have a line crease from top to bottom from the plastic seam.
Yes indeed. Poly bagged books will jam you up for sure.
So can i pre screen at 9.6 per say and also quick press and also grade?
Great vid by the way! Subscribed btw!
This is an oldie but goodie video. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the info ℹ jus subbed look forward to more of your vids brother 🤟
Dee Jay Sk Thanks bud. I appreciate the view and the kind words.
No problem godbless
Regie Collects Will do, Regie, and thanks again for the great content!
Glad you enjoyed the video.
Regie, you truly are the Casey Kasem of the comic book world.
😂😜 I appreciate that comparison bro.
I work with the talents that I have. Lol.
great video! also, your voice and cadence really reminds me of Casey Kasem....
Thanks bro. That’s high praise.
It's a "value added" business model. One quick thing to add:
The Opportunity Cost of your investment.
Great additions, I’ve covered a lot of that in other videos since the is was published back in 2018. Thanks for checking out the classics. 👊🏾
You did not mention EBAY fees and Paypal fees that add onto those $34.99 baseline cost.
Great info Regie!
You are welcome. You’re hitting all the back issue vids. 👍🏾👍🏾
Very good video!! Thank you.
You are welcome.
Very well done. Great tidbits
Thanks for watching and commenting bud. Tell a friend. :-)
Thanks for making the video. My only complaint is that you are using figures based on a 15 book send to the CGC and that is not stated. One of your viewers sending one book will be spending around $75.00 per book with shipping and fees.
Pyramid Comics Thanks for the feedback. And, thanks for watching.
thanks for your help

Hit me up if you have any questions.
These are ones I was thinking of sending to CGC (I have only one copy of them):
•Edge of Spider-Verse #2 (I have all 5 issues of this miniseries)
•X-Men (Vol. 2) #2
•Battlestar Galactica #1 (by Marvel)
•Fantastic Four (Vol. 1) #132
•All-New Wolverine #1 & 2
•Vision (Vol. 3) #1
•Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 3) #1
•Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 4) #1
•Amazing Spider-Man #800
•Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 5) #1
•DC Rebirth #1
•Marvel Legacy #1 (Alex Ross Color Variant Cover)
•Thor (Vol. 5) (Russell Dauterman Design Variant Cover)
•Mighty Thor #700 (both original cover and Stephanie Hans Legacy Variant Cover)
•Immortal Hulk #1
•Totally-Awesome Hulk #1
•Dark Nights: Metal #1 (Midnight Release Variant Cover)
•Multiple DC Rebirth one-shots of various titles
Two other questions:
1. Are lenticular covers worth CGCing? I've heard mixed opinions. I have several more lenticular covers for other Marvel Legacy titles
@@RegieCollects I'll let you know when I get them back. Thanks for the info
Have you thought about pressing your own comics a decent press is like 80 10 comics pays for itself
This video is from more than two years ago when press was $8-$12.
Here’s my pressing service that was rolled out a few weeks ago:
ruclips.net/video/jpl3phd5Sqs/видео.html
It’s a 3-part series.
Hey Regie. Because cgc decided to temporarily allow free members to submit books via mail, I have decided to ship off four of my books to cgc as follows in order they appear on the slip:
Amazing Fantasy #15 Facsimile
Amazing Spider-Man #361
Walking Dead #193
And Daredevil #181.
@@RegieCollects Noted. Wow! They are making a killing in this game.
nice job!
@@RegieCollects wat is there website. Because wen I look ik up I get like 4 to 5 different things for cgc !
CGCComics.com
Can anyone submit books to cgc?
Yes and no. Anyone with a membership can submit. The free "membership" only allows you to submit at conventions. The next level level membership is $25/year and allows you to submit online. Check out the prices at www.cgccomics.com/join.

The Regie shuffle 👊
I have Thanos 15 CGC 9.8 signed by Cates, my Thanos 13 came back as a 9.4 💔
Congrats on the 9.8 and 9.4 isn't terrible. I may have a 9.8 that you can trade up for later. :-)
I want to burn like $2grand and get Spawn #1-100 all CGC, a completely insane dream of mine. :) Love the show!!!
Lol. A lot of folks are going back and snagging those Spawn books. The 90s are alive and well. 👊🏾😀
Tip #1: Never send anything to PGX unless you know it's low grade and are hoping for the "PGX bump"
I think a lot of the cheaper collectors like me might sway the market. Let's be honest if you really want it and it's prices right you will buy it. PGX or CGC lol.
767 new fr...nice share
I just lost so much money
How so?
Well you are going to really shake your head . I sold a few comics on eBay, and they sold very quickly after I listed them . I took lots of photos , and really had no idea how to grade or anything . Long story still long lol I didn't charge enough based on the Excellent Condition they were in . Lost some money . Sold both at half the value . Vampire Tales #1 at $90 and Vampire Tales 2 at $50
I am going to educate myself more before I list more . I have several box's to go through. I am going to cherry pick what I send to have graded .
Ah ok. It happens. It’s definitely a lesson that you won’t forget, right? Grading comics isn’t easy. Have you had a chance to check out my CGC tip video on grading? I also have videos on shipping comics safely.
If you need anything just hit me on email or IG. 👊🏾
Thank you so much , really appreciate your videos. I have been binge watching them , and I have learned so much.
The way you pronounce Thanos is cringe. It's not thaynoce it's thaaaanoce
Thanks for the substantive comment on a 2+ year old video. Have a great day.
