Pro tip: If you have an LCS that submits books regularly to CGC then I recommend just bringing them in and letting your LCS do it, especially if you're new to this. Another perk of Taking your books to the local LCS to submit is they will usually inspect the book(s) and tell you if it's worth submitting or not, thus eliminating some of the mistakes Reggie mentions. They also prep and ship the books for you which makes life so much easier. Also: Some LCS's that submit books to CGC in bulk will give a decent S/H discount regardless if you're submitting one book, many books or if you have books from different tiers or have books that require clean/press services. So no real need to send things separately and complicate your life, just drop them off and pick them up when they're ready.
That’s what I do anytime I want one I just go to the comic book store and they will either do it for me and call me when it comes back or they will look up how much it is and try to convince me to just buy one that’s for sale already graded because they say 9/10 times that I’ve asked them that it would be cheaper than paying to send it in
See Regie catching bricks! Don't be like Regie, don't catch bricks! Much respect for showing mistakes man, everyone wants to show their miracle once in a lifetime finds or deals. Transparency for the win.

One thing I discovered is occasionally a book, like last ronin, is considered a magazine by CGC. Sent in a prescreen 25 books including that one. They separately shipped me back 24 and the single Ronin, because they had a different book type. Realize how important it was to look at the entire invoice and make sure some of the books are not separated out. They otherwise were all of the same tier and services.
OMGoodness. Every mistake you have made I also made, lol. Great advice on sending books in as well. I'm about to ship some to them for the first time. I have always given books to them at a show.

Helpful info as always! I found that, since it tooke a few months to put my submission together, even if I got books pressed earlier on I could put them into the bricks and store the bricks vertically and they didn't revert to their pre-pressing state, even if there were slight waves in the covers

Regie, do you think CGC would let you do a short video of their intake through mailing back a comic submission? That would be cool. How do they track your orders, organize transfers between pressing and grading etc, and get back to us.
I've been onsite at CGC in the intake, grading, and packing room. I can tell you that it's nothing glorious. LOL. It's literally just rooms with people working.
Nice! I’m glad that you are enjoying the hobby bro. Hopefully you subscribed to the channel as well. There is a ton of CGC related content on the channel that may help with book selection, submission, shipping and everything in between.
Regie! - I'm still fairly new to your channel (and so glad I found it!). This vid was excellent! Loved seeing what you went through and the lessons you learned from everything. I bought Batman adventures 12 last May at my Comic Con for a steal, but it's a 9.6, not a 9.8, but I needed the first appearance of my girl Harley in my Harley Quinn collection. ♥️
Always appreciate the effort you put into your videos! Submitting multiple invoices does increase costs slightly, because CGC charges a $5 handling fee per invoice.
Funny video lol, yea man I have wasted a LOT of money on mistakes. Your videos have helped me cut down on a little of than ;) Its funny to watch a video like this but also go back to when you first started and how you react to some of those books coming back graded lol. To see what you thought then vs now lol
When you say that you sent then in to press and clean. Did you do that service with CGC? I done it once with them and in my opinion they did not do a good job
I recently did my first CGC submission for a Vampirella Strikes #1 ComicsPRO Exclsuive sketch cover, I'm excited but also nervous to see what it gets, white cover with 4 very small non colour breaking spine ticks on it but other than that no other issues not even any bindery tears, it looks better than current 9.8's that I have. Unfortunately I did not have an option to press and it's $50 per book for us and takes about 6 months to get it back. Holding thumbs it doesn't come back a 5.5 :)
great stuff as always Reggie, I really learn a lot from your videos.I was wondering if you had ever done one on how you personally grade a book before CGC submission. Specifically books in lower grade but still valuable and what you think are defects and virtues, Maybe you could do a tutorial on degrees and severity of common flaws such as spine stress, creases, corner blunting, color break, dents, dimples , staple tears etc. etc. I'm somewhat unsure of my grading skills and and I could really benefit from your knowledge before I start submitting my comics ,mostly bronze age, to CGC. THANKS!!
I clean and press myself. There is a 5 part series on the channel showing the process. Cleaning video: ruclips.net/video/bQVcPRpG1fY/видео.html To check the cost of having a comic cleaned and pressed by CGC you’ll have to check the website. The cost will depend upon the age of book, etc.
Thanks, Reg. Took me 3-4 submissions to get the CGC thing down. Membership status, like kind books, modern grade cut-offs etc. Still on learning curve. My mistake video would be a lot longer!
Lol. I hear you bro. Thankfully we both have turned a corner. These books are from two years ago. Fast forward to today and I’m pulling boxes of 9.8s. 😂👊🏾
Glad you found it helpful. I’ve sent hundreds of books if not thousands since this video was filmed. Was I worried when I started yes but you learn to take precautions with good shipping and collectible insurance.
On average how much would you say it costs to get one modern book to get pressed and graded? And on that note how much is it to get a bulk of modern books pressed and graded? Also what's a "COA"?
I like to use $35 as the price for a modern book. Bulk would be $35 X number of books. CGC's fee schedule is here: www.cgccomics.com/submit/services-fees/cgc/. I'm being cryptic about price because there are discounts involved based upon your membership. The costs to ship are also variable.
Have you ever had a book come back restored? That is a bad feeling when it happens. I had two books come back at the same time as restored, both were grails too...
I had an ASM 300 come back restored in early 2018. It actually worked out for the best. The book was at CGC being graded when I had a chance to meet Stan Lee. If the book was in my possession raw it would have been signed by Stan. Because it was at CGC I purchased an additional ASM 300 and had it triple signed. The restored book actually went to a good cause. Sorry that happened to you bro.
I am new to the channel and I have to say great videos!! The fingerprint book now has me worried about all of my bagged and boarded comics, like could I have done something similar? It's a horror story! I always wash my hands well though before doing any handling.
Welcome and thanks. If you’re talking about the x-force book (been a while since I watched the video) it was a fingerprint in the ink from the printer versus my fingerprint. The less for me was to take the book out of the plastic and look at it. Lol.
Hey Regie what's up? I have an X-Men vol.2 #1 i got signed by Chris Claremont back in the mid 90's. If I send it be slabbed will they verify that it's his signature or will it be marked as a defect on the book
Nice video as usual bud! Lessons learned! We all have made stupid comic mistakes like that. That's how we learn! Btw I noticed you changed up your comic wall behind you! I like it! Is that a 9.8 Batgirl? I can't make out the grade. And is that a Spawn bottom row 7th slot?
It happens, right? The goal is to get smarter. :) it’s a Batman adventures 9.0. The raw book in the video is higher grade, I think. And, yes that’s Spawn 285 9.8.
I'm about to sent 10 comics to CGC. 9 are 1977 Eternals 1, 2, Howard Duck 1, Black Panther 1. The other is Heavy Metal 1 magazine. All bought new and stored at the same time, and probably the same grade. Should I send the Heavy Metal?
Here is a video that may help you: ruclips.net/video/69kLjuCed3Y/видео.html If you don’t already have a membership, consider signing up using the link in the description of my videos.
Heck no, if you search my channel you can find several videos on how to ship. Just search "Regie Collects shipping." Here is one video: ruclips.net/video/TcOYQZMF8wI/видео.html
Regie Collects thank you for that. It’s so hard to get a straight answer from anyone these days lol. Glad to have someone like you in the community that helps out.
So what do we do when we go to a book signing at our local comic shop and they dont have "COA's", when we send the books in to get slabbed what happens? Do the recognize it as authentic or is a "blemish" on the book?
If you send it to CGC, it will get a green label. If you want the signature verified, you can send it to CBCS. They will verify the signature for a fee. Someone posted that you can send the COA if you have it to CBCS.
is it worth "slabbing" a book based solely on sentimental value? i bought my first comic book when i was 11 or 12 years old. I still have it...I'm 38 now
Is there any service that will remove price stickers from comics? I have some 90s comics I want graded. But they have price stickers on the cover... makes me think they're not worth the cost of getting graded ('ve tried removing the stickers myself with bad results). Thanks.
A professional comic book cleaner may be able to remove the stickers. The question will be if the comics have enough value to warrant that type of investment. Only you as the pricing guide will be able to determine that.
Talking about comic book mistakes, I recently accidentally removed a $240. Thor comic book from pressing and tore a 1 3/4" tear into the cover! No CGC for that one any more.
Before you started doing your own cleaning and pressing, did you use the cgc 5$ option to screen the book prior to their cleaning/pressing? I've done this for a couple books since I didn't quite trust my own eye yet to catch all the defects
Lol i remember seeing the video where you showed off that graded infinity wars Adam warlock and I thought there was a reason why graded it and I tried to research why and couldn’t find anything. Great video as always!!
I received an Avengers 684 9.8 that I bought on ebay....when you look at the back of the book...there is a clear line that looks like a scratch you might see on a record or like someone just barely grazed it with a razor....but....it doesnt break the color and it can only be seen on its edge. Do you think this being the only defect and possibly it being a manufacturer issue that cgc still let it pass at a 9.8 or do you think i possibly got scammed?
It isn’t clear from your comment if this book is raw or graded already. You’re citing it’s a 9.8 but wondering what CGC will do. What makes you think that this is a production defect? Have you see this defect widespread on that particular book?
Great video and thanks for unlocking that shipping back fee puzzle. I put together a submission and was flabbergasted by the return shipping fee. Having the beginnings of some kind of illness, the explanation on CGC's site were not clicking. I will now spread out my submissions over the next few weeks. And I have been using the ComicBookRealm.com 38 step grading assistant and it is a big help. The first few take a few minutes but once you do a dozen or so times the logical process it utilizes definitely ups one's "grading game"
Question. I have some comics that are signed but not viewed by CGC and I understand CGC will not label it as a signature series. My question is for personal use Do you feel its worth getting the comics graded? Don't think I would sell them but its more is it worth value to get the comic graded with the green label (i Believe) As well my first time sending into CGC. Ty and I enjoy your videos
Very helpful and stated clearly. You've got a subscriber my man! I do have a couple of questions that I'm hoping you (or anyone), can answer for me. Yes, I'm new at this. It seems sometimes I don't have the option to choose "Modern "1975-Present" for grading and "Economy" is chosen for me which is almost $10 more even though the book is 1975-Present and valued at less than $400. Why is this? Has anyone used the "Walkthrough" option? What criteria would make that the correct choice? Thanks Regie and whoever can clear things up for me. :)
This video is pretty old now and about 6 months ago, CGC updated the tiers, pricing and website. And, no, I’ve never used the Walk Through submission. Hope this helps.
I have a four part series on pressing. These comics are from almost 2 years ago and demonstrate mistakes that can be made by people new to comics or newly returning to comics.
You had me at body builder and comic collector-I've been doing both for 35 years.
LOL. Love it. Salute, Comic Swoldier.

Good advice. Well done, Regie. I'll share this with my Facebook followers and Twitter, too! -- The Comic Book Pusher
😎
Thanks bud. I appreciate it.
Great video, great information!
I got my books back from cgc and in one of them inside of the slab in the right hand corner is what I believe to be a pube ~ from a grader -_-
The rare DNA variant 😉
Thanks, Reg. Took me 3-4 submissions to get the CGC thing down. Membership status, like kind books, modern grade cut-offs etc. Still on learning curve. My mistake video would be a lot longer!
Lol. I hear you bro. Thankfully we both have turned a corner. These books are from two years ago. Fast forward to today and I’m pulling boxes of 9.8s. 😂👊🏾
I am new to this and your video was very helpful. Do you worry about the books being lost?
Glad you found it helpful. I’ve sent hundreds of books if not thousands since this video was filmed. Was I worried when I started yes but you learn to take precautions with good shipping and collectible insurance.
"If it moved, I slabbed it" 🤣, Well pal let me tell you, you have an awesome collection still Congrats!
YES! I got the first comment! Nice video and great clarification on sending in comics by tier to CGC. You definitely helped me out with that one. 👍🏿👍🏿
Lol. Congrats! You are very welcome bro. Glad it helped.
I wanna know how you are hanging those slabs...

@@RegieCollects that is awesome.. thanks man!!
Lol.
@@RegieCollects Ahhh Got it! Thanks!!
Helpful, thanks!
Hey Regie what's up? I have an X-Men vol.2 #1 i got signed by Chris Claremont back in the mid 90's. If I send it be slabbed will they verify that it's his signature or will it be marked as a defect on the book
Cgc will give it a green label. You might be better off sending the book to CBCS who will verify.
I made so many mistakes in my earlier submissions which cost me a lot as far as cost vs reward !
An education can often be expensive, right? I know I paid up a few times. 😂🤣
Here is a video that may help you: ruclips.net/video/69kLjuCed3Y/видео.html

Thanks Regie.
13:00 do you have to use cgc “kits”?
Heck no, if you search my channel you can find several videos on how to ship. Just search "Regie Collects shipping." Here is one video: ruclips.net/video/TcOYQZMF8wI/видео.html
Regie Collects thank you for that. It’s so hard to get a straight answer from anyone these days lol. Glad to have someone like you in the community that helps out.
You are very welcome bro.
I still have it...I'm 38 now
Absolutely. Here is a video on it. ruclips.net/video/gqvVhz4wgVk/видео.html
I know it’s 3 years old..but still some great tips.
Glad it was helpful!
@@RegieCollects Thanks!
Talking about comic book mistakes, I recently accidentally removed a $240. Thor comic book from pressing and tore a 1 3/4" tear into the cover! No CGC for that one any more.
Ouch. Sorry bro.
Thanks, that was helpful.
Before you started doing your own cleaning and pressing, did you use the cgc 5$ option to screen the book prior to their cleaning/pressing? I've done this for a couple books since I didn't quite trust my own eye yet to catch all the defects
No. I never used the prescreen prior to pressing my own books. The prescreen is a newer service that I didn’t leverage until just recently.
Lol i remember seeing the video where you showed off that graded infinity wars Adam warlock and I thought there was a reason why graded it and I tried to research why and couldn’t find anything. Great video as always!!
Thanks for not putting me on the spot with that comment. All I need is more flashbacks of my mistakes. :-)
Regie Collects lmao 😂 sorry
No...it is already graded...Im just surprised to see the mark on the book inside the cgc slab....I thought 9.8 meant the book was essentially perfect.
I love when my videos can help folks. Thank you for the feedback bro. Good luck with the future submissions.
There are lots of reason to get books slabbed that has nothing to do with dollars and cents. It’s your collection. Do what you think makes sense.
@@RegieCollects ty for the advice
What do you use to fix your CGCs on the wall?

Very helpful and stated clearly. You've got a subscriber my man!
I do have a couple of questions that I'm hoping you (or anyone), can answer for me. Yes, I'm new at this.
It seems sometimes I don't have the option to choose "Modern "1975-Present" for grading and "Economy" is chosen for me which is almost $10 more even though the book is 1975-Present and valued at less than $400. Why is this?
Has anyone used the "Walkthrough" option? What criteria would make that the correct choice?
Thanks Regie and whoever can clear things up for me. :)
Oh, some of the ones slated for Economy are not older than 1975. Should clear that up.
This video is pretty old now and about 6 months ago, CGC updated the tiers, pricing and website. And, no, I’ve never used the Walk Through submission. Hope this helps.
I'm surprised you haven't learned to press your own comics. Pressing comics has become my new favorite hobby besides collecting comics!
I have a four part series on pressing. These comics are from almost 2 years ago and demonstrate mistakes that can be made by people new to comics or newly returning to comics.
It is so tough to send and forget my CgC submissions. I need a subscription cuz i gave them stuff at SDCC. Still waiting, waiting on CBCS too.
Make sure you use that affiliate link when you get that membership from CGC. 😂 I’m too much of a control freak to not have my own account.
