    I really appreciate this vid. I don't currently PLAN on becoming a major CGC user, but I have some books that I intend to be "legacy/inheritance" comics, and it'd be nice for heirs to have a box of slabs they don't need to think about: they can simply sell them as-is, or whatever. This was a great help.

    • @NoCoastComics
      @NoCoastComics  3 года назад +1

      You're very welcome, Scott. That's a fantastic idea to make things easier to sell for your heirs, or for them to know the condition without question. It also helps the books maintain their current condition for decades to come.
      When you choose to grade some books I'd greatly appreciate using my referral link if you'd like to say thank you.
      Let me know if you have any other questions on the process at all.

    Very helpful video! Thanks for posting this. My only critique would be that box you used looked about an inch too short for the amount of comics you had in there. I wouldn't suggest packing them in a box so tight where those top flaps are bulging out because you'll be putting unwanted pressure on those comics inside, not only from the pressure of the flaps but any time another box is placed on top of it during shipping. Pack it snug, not tight, would be my suggestion. Again, thanks for the great info

    • @NoCoastComics

    Thank you so much for your help! I am brand new to comic collecting and this video was very informative. 👍🏼 Where do you buy your shipping supplies to save money? And also for modern books well taken care of, is a press really required? Do you press your books at home? Or do you pay CGC or comic shop to clean and press? Thank you!!! Subscribed 🙏🏼

    • @NoCoastComics
      @NoCoastComics  2 года назад

      Hi ComicGainz, thanks for watching. I press most of my own books. I'm still learning, but I recommend the Seal brand of press. I have honed my eye for good CGC candidates overall, but it is likely that many newer books are good to go without a press.

    Wow thanks a lot for doing this video. I have some comics I need to get graded And you really helped with making the process less overwhelming. When I sign up I’ll definitely use your referral link. I Do have a question? What if you’re going to one of those comic book conventions and CGC is there to grade them? Do they grade them the same day that you drop them off or do they grade them and ship them back to you weeks later? I’ve been trying to watch as many videos as I can because there’s a comic book convention coming up and I don’t really know what to expect so I’m trying to find out how to prepare them for Comic con. Would it be best to get the membership before I go to comicon? Thanks

    • @NoCoastComics
      @NoCoastComics  2 года назад

      Hi Rodzilla, thanks for watching. In the past, CGC has done what's called "On-site grading", which I believe is done at the same price point as the Walk-Through rate... but I've never done that so I may be incorrect on the pricing. Since COVID hit, I don't think CGC has offered this -and I have no info on when/if they'll do it again. Otherwise, they take your books, ship them back to Florida, then complete the process and ship them back to you. You only have to pay for shipping 1-way this way, BUT I don't think any membership tier discounts apply (again, don't quote me on that). There are pros and cons to each option, but for me it really comes down to not having to wait until the next time CGC MIGHT be at a convention I'm at. The way turnaround times are right now, I'd get my books in as soon as possible. I don't forsee the times coming down once CGC starts making convention appearances again.

      @@NoCoastComics Only issue that hit me like a roadblock was their procedure process. They actually look to grade your book BEFORE they press it. I selected quick press for a modern book with a scratch and was informed about that procedure by cgc over the phone. VERY disheartening! Guess I need to watch your pressing videos next lol

    • @NoCoastComics
      @NoCoastComics  3 года назад +1

      That doesn't sound right...? They would have to grade it after the press. How would that even work? To my knowledge it goes to CCS for pressing, then over to CGC to grading. They are two separate entities. Maybe the customer service rep didn't understand the question or misspoke, because that really makes no sense.

    • @IamSquidword
      @IamSquidword 3 года назад

      @@NoCoastComics Yes that's what I thought. I started out with the minimum 15 books for a quick press. Then added books up to 25 and wanted only 9.8s with 4 custom labels if the books passed. When I explained it to Shane over the phone he put me on hold and explained that they would be graded first . Maybe it's the prescreen for 9.8 procedure? It didn't sound right to me either but the books are away. I will consider this my first experiment with cgc

    • @NoCoastComics
      @NoCoastComics  3 года назад +1

      Hmm.. I think something was lost in the conversation then. Please do let me know what happens! Noob-ish question, if you don't mind: I just came across a large amount (75 total) of 1960's DC books. All superhero. Nothing earthshaking, but most of them are in pretty good shape (VG to F-, I think). I can't figure out whether or not it's worth it so send some/many of them in for grading or just sell them as is. What kind of net investment am I looking at per book? Thanks for any insights.

    • @NoCoastComics
      @NoCoastComics  3 года назад +1

      Welcome to the channel and thanks for the kind words!
      Pre-1976 books are submitted under the "value" tier for any book worth $200 or less. You're looking at $27 ea, or $37 for Fast Track if you want them back in a quicker turnaround time (currently 23 days vs. 82 days regular speed!!). Take 10% off those prices if you sign up for the membership I mention in the video (which is an absolute must if you're sending in 6 books or more). I greatly appreciate using my referral link if you do. Shipping will add a bit, depending on how many books you send in. You can always add books to the cart and proceed through the checkout to see what the shipping and total will be before you enter your CC info.
      I'd recommend researching ebay SOLD listings (GREEN prices) with the title, number of the book, and "CGC 5.0" which is VG/FN. That will give you a rough idea of what to expect across the board. Change that to VG or FN if you want to cover your bases.
      Hope that helps!

    • @NoCoastComics
      @NoCoastComics  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hey Ethan, thanks for watching👍 It's hard to say - most comics in a bag and board are not technically an "original protective sleeve" as some assume, however some in the 90s did come in a polybag. I'd recommend searching ebay sold listings for the books in question to get an idea of value. Add "cgc 9.8" to see the hypothetical high end of what they might bring. If it's more for sentimental value, then of course that doesn't really matter as much.

    • @NoCoastComics
      @NoCoastComics  3 года назад +1

      Welcome to the channel! Ebay sold listings are a good place to start. It is for insurance purposes as well as tier placement. For modern comics there is no reason for me at least to not say $200 to max out CGCs liability while in their hands. Hey JC, welcome to the channel!
      I don't believe there's a label type prescreen, great question. You could always try handwriting a note about it on your invoice and see what they say. You might get a phone call saying "no can do".
      As for the value, I've sent in books that after grading are worth multiples of the max value for the tier without any problems. I think as long as it's not obscenely undervalued or you're not trying to submit like a Batman Adventures 12 or a big book in NM that is obviously worth tons more you should be just fine. Hi Glenn, I didn't speak much about insurance on the package ON THE WAY to CGC with your chosen shipper. If you have high-value books, that's an option.
      As I've noted to others, I HIGHLY recommend purchasing a Collectibles Insurance policy from somewhere like CollectInsure.com.
      With a policy from them, your personal books are covered in transit both to CGC and after grading from what was explained to me by their reps. They also have dealer policies for setting up at shows and selling online, etc. I choose to purchase individual shipping insurance when selling and shipping books when I offer them for sale at places like ebay, and just have my personal collection insured - as it's not offered for sale anywhere.
      I was able to insure my personal collection for less than 1% of its value in annual premiums. I'm not affiliated with them or anything - just passing the info along.
      Hopefully that helps answer your question. All the best,

    • @NoCoastComics
      @NoCoastComics  3 года назад +1

      Hey Bryan - good question. I'm not a big fan of digital comics, but I know there are many that like them. I much prefer the feel of printed vs. using a screen. Gave it a shot but wasn't for me.
      As for prices and collectibility? Print runs in the 90s were crazy high but books like Spawn #1 and X-men #1 are still commanding decent money since they are solid legends. Key issues like first appearances should continue to rise but you just never know. Common, random books I presume may be more stagnant but on a long enough timeline who knows!
      Print runs today are only 30k-200k on the VERY high side compared to sometimes in the millions for the top printed books of the 90s. Having a constant stream of Marvel of DC movies and shows definitely helps that, and there are only so many copies of comics that were printed decades ago, even when those runs were high.
