    Regardless of how people feel about the singular tier 3 cav units of their favorite race of choice, yes, a race designed entirely around a cavalry focus should have at minimum the best cav unit in the game.

      Correct, however skullcrushers and bloodknights are under performing given their price. Skullcrushers for example, don't have enough mass and seem to be outperformed by most other monstrous cav units. But you are correct, in the end Bretonnia should have the best cav.

      @@deinemutter3112 In the lore and tabletop blood knights are buffed grail knights as most of them are former brettonian knights that got changed into vampires. So I'm all about them winning agaisnt grail knights.
      Chaos knights should have simmilar stats as grail knights and loose mostly due to Brettonia having healing.
      Skullcrushers absolutely should win agaisnt brettonia knights, those are absolute monsters and with flamiong attacks shoudl be dedicated coutner to elite cav that can be healed. They should be strongest (and most expensive) units of monstrous cav in the game, heating everything else including ogre crushers (and again due to healing battles end up close)
      Demigryph knights are alreayd good enought. They should be slightly below brettonia best knights, blood knights and should be able to trade evenlyu with chaos warriors. They are in good spot.
      Also brettonia don't have the cest cav, they have the best variety of cav, for every purpose other type. And dont underestimate their speed, with 84 speed they catch light skirmish cav and that is straigth up unfair.
      They shoudl be faster than all other except elves) heavy cav and have strenghts in chooseing their engagements but not be best in prolonged fight nor be as fast as to catch skirmish cav.

      @@michalpiotrgorecki Blood knights are not buffed grail knights. Infact its impossible to turn a grail knight into a vampire as their very blood is anathema for undead. The blood knights are the former knights of the red keep, an Imperial knightly order, not bretonnian. Outside of the vampire armybook which says that blood knights are better (matched by the bretonnian armybook saying grail knights are better), all lore points towards grail knights being far superior, with Calard de Garamont casually killing 5 elite knights and Merovech (one of the most powerful vampire knights we know about) in seconds. Or for example Amarlic killing vampiric knights with his presence alone in two separate encounters. Comparatively, the only instances of blood knights beating bretonnians are when they seek out questing knights and knights of the realm; simple humans vs fully-bred vampire knights. However even then, we have stories where a simple knight of the realm killed two blood dragons in 1v1s (once while he was tired from fighting an undead army first). And those weren't close encounters either, the knight killed the blood dragon with ease, and this was a lieutenant of Walach Harkon himself.
      Skullcrushers are powerful indeed, but while they have better mounts, they should not beat grail knights, or at least they should trade evenly at best. Regular Chaos knights are powerful combatans, all chaos warriors are, but they're still just chaos warriors mounted on daemonic horses. They generally beat human cavalry 1v1, but there are instances where they lose as well, and when up against grail knights, chaos warriors are way out of their league (an instance of this would for example be the grail knight Reolus fighting his way through Egil Styrbjorn's champions, or Knights errant led by Louen managing to kill some of the swords of chaos, which are all champions of chaos, though mostly losing). Skullcrushers have better mounts, but the grail knights are better than the riders, and have blessed weaponry which can hurt the skullcrushers quite badly.
      The main issue lays in the depiction of grail knight as a unit. They're not the equivalent of vampire knights or chaos warriors on horseback. They're the equivalent in lore of full on chaos champions, chaos lords, and vampire lords. An unit of 48 or 60 grail knights would tear apart just about anything, just look at the Grail Companions (12 grail knights) beating three full armies at once.

    In addition to getting their walls back for their minor settlements, another good lore appropriate change would be to give Peasant Bowmen deployable stakes. English longbowmen had them in Medieval 2, and Peasant Bowmen on tabletop had stakes they could deploy in front of them. Both changes would help Brettonia when they have to defend territory with mostly peasant units. Also, if they are going to encourage you to use Knights to buff your peasants' leadership and nerf their leadership when they don't have any Knights around, then even a tier 1 minor settlement should have at least a unit of Knights Errant in the garrison, and not be exclusively peasant units.

      This. Peasants are actually in a worse position than they were before. Used to be you could Men-at-arms polearms up to 68 ld with only the Relique. Now with a Relique and a unit of knights babysitting them, they can only reach 66, meaning you're spending more money and committing more units to get a worse result.
      The Grail units being busted hides this right now, but when that gets taken away, and we all know it will, Bretonnia will be in a worse place than they were before. But because they named parts of the patch after a TT mechanic, people will insist it's good and must be kept...even though on TT the Peasant's Duty would buff Men at Arms from 5 to 8 ld if they were in the aura of a Grail Knight, the equivalent in this game of jumping from 50 to 80. Instead they got +8 atop a -5 or -6 nerf which is underwhelming at best.

      Honestly a lot of older factions need some kind of hero in their settlements at tier 3, or at least a t3 building that provides a hero in the garrison. I was playing with Kemmler and Wulfric to check out the mass reworks and man do their garrisons suck ass, especially since you get dogpiled so hard by the W3 factions/start positions now.

      @@KKmanmi Well, we could use a point system like siege defense points. A lvl 1 wall give a point or gold budget that you can use as a default garrison composition as it is now or use it to make your own garrison composition. That way people can compensate patch changes if they spare some time to learn what's good and what's bad. It could be tied to region based recruitment buildings too. Like a region with an empire stable has the option to recruit pistoliers early and Demigryphs late (small numbers, since there is a budget or maybe more options to expand the budget). This would give players agency and give ca the option to say if you dont want the default garrison make your own and not care about it more than increasing the budget and making the def garrison equal to the budget.

    Also worth remembering the armor buffs are very significant on grails because vigor loss lowers armor but perfect vigor means that + 30 armor will never be reduced

    The lance formation attack with the grail knights passing through multiple units is like something out of Return of the King with the Rohirrim charge sweeping through the tides of orcs.

      @@Morbak546 Yeah, but on the other hand each chosen should be able to fight and win in 1v1 agaisnt such dude about 50% times. fact they just straigth up get moved througth is insane. Any heavy infantry above 1k point, especially those with halberds should stop their charge basically on the spot. what is happening her is starigth up unfair.

      I am seriously hoping that the days of Bretonnia having it's ONE TACTIC mitigated by armored pikes is over.
      Let the cav faction be good with it's friggin cav. No more "oh but cav by their very nature need to suck vs spears and pikes"
      Bretonnia, a faction with ONLY CAVALRY.... needs to be an exception to this rule to work.
      Maybe I'm just super biased here, but seriously game 1-3 up to this point has legit just been "oh it's Bretonnia. Halbard death star = victory"

      archers are cost effective, their infantry can deal with mid infantry easilly and expensive ones start to be a problem. Brets should have top cav, not the best one. Also demigryph and skullcrushers arent even cav, they are mosntrous cav and its a shame they operate more like a cav in this game

    Just because units fill similar roles does not mean they all have to be equal. The way to play is a rock paper scissors and that has always been the formula, some units play certain roles better in 1 v 1 situations or are meant to be countered by something else. A strong cav unit vs another strong cav unit will ALWAYS come down to small stats and become wasteful for the unit, which is why the player is meant to pick decent fights for the said units so they take less damage and deal more.

    Grail knights are broken, but they should be. They should be the best cavalry in the game, considering their faction focus. I'd rather them get a cost increased than their stats nerfed.
    chaos, and blood knights should be buffed to the grail knights level.
    CA has to be careful buffing chaos knights, because their marks of chaos. The tzeench knights could easily be unstoppable.

    It's ridiculous that the troughs bug made it in, I think this and similar lack of testing bugs point to there being a much smaller dev crew working on the game than is really needed.
    Not sure if that's the goal or a result of people leaving.

      The grail quests honestly need a full rework and they should have someone actually playtest it lol
      There's always something wrong with it.
      And none of the quests actually feel like quests
      I can guarantee you 90% of bretonnian lords have the questing vow of mannan lol
      I think a quest battle or actual task would be better than what they are right now. And give me something special for them other than upkeep and movement. Give all my knights aquatic or give my lord a cool ability like repanses explosion ability(maybe a lesser version or a single use version). Give my lord
      Always felt my bretonnian lords didn't really feel like grailknights. Except for Louen and Repanse and stuff. At least give grail knight lords fire swords lol.

      True but that’s only a player. In campaigns the ai will attack a unit and it will be tough but will stay put. Maybe it’ll cycle charge a bit

And they can always adjust the price of units in multiplayer to match effectiveness. Or they could put a limit on how many you can bring in a multiplayer game. Also if you are playing a multiplayer campaign and are versing a player using bretonnia. You’ll know from the start what units they have. It won’t be a surprise. So you can Taylor your armies when you eventually meet and clash.

    Oh yeah, I just faced Bretonnia in MP and felt the wrath. 1 grail knight and 1 grail guardian wreaked havoc through my eternal guard, even with 2 zoats for some mass. I could have braced more, but still, I had mostly good engagements- they just freakin steamroll right now lol- they got almost 3k value each. And I killed their healer first thing, so with heals that would have been even more oppressive.
    Edit: This was still a close game at around 12 minutes long and the Bret player was good, so it's not like they didn't earn the victory. But the cav mass was a bit crazy. I am saving the replay to watch after the next patch and see how it goes then haha.

      Bret vs WE has always been a hard MU. Don't rely on spears or zoats, use waywatchers and nets especially since their resistance to physical damage is 10% less. The ridiculous lance formation and speed buff certainly made microing more difficult tho.

      Maybe you should've killed the grail knights first then. I feel like you people just want anything new nerfed. Shut up. Where was prey of anath raema? Why didn't you disintegrate the TWO high threat units with starfire shafts? You get 3 uses of anath raema on one character. You bring glady and glade captain and the knights are pin cushions. They dont get to move they get to stand there and die. I don't think any of you people know what units are strong are what units are not. One of the most expensive units in the game are too good because "they are good at charging infantry" None of you have any clue what broken or busted means.

      I know you've got a Grail Reliquae by your bedside that you pray to every night, but you really need to chill Azrael lol. Bretonnia has always been a difficult matchup for Wood Elves, years before this patch. Brets can swarm you with cheap cav, and Wild Riders/Glade Riders will trade poorly. Difficult to defend your backline against 6-8 cav units, Prey of Anath Raema or not

Why didn't I disintegrate their cav before my archers got rushed? What a question. You sound like you don't play Multiplayer. Also, not that I need to respond to your nastiness but for the record I want Grail units to feel awesome with thematically powerful charges. They should be strong! But currently they are broken and need a mass nerf - this video is proof. You should watch the video and try some of what your preach in practice.

    This is the battle update I've always dreamt for Bretonnia.
    Imo all races should have a battle mechanic specific for them: Undead, daemonic, realm of souls, bestial fury, martial mastery, harmony, more powder, contempt, marks of chaos, WAAAARGH, etc
    And the ones that lack it feel incomplete. I could argue the empire should be the only ones to not have it but the dawi for sure should have something like a dawi shield wall that doubles their mass if they're braced or something.

      If dwarfs get a battle mechanic it should be called they have wronged us, and in campaign it is determined by a few things, number of grudges in the book, number of places that lord has beaten, time between those victories, and so on, the more severe the grudges the better dwarfs perform in melee, not extra defense because the dwarfs have plenty of that, but melee attack, weapon strength, and charge bonus and in MP it'd be a set value, with maybe just the race you are fighting determining it, which could make it easier to balance the dwarfs because bad matchups they can get a boost in without directly buffing them in other matchups

    Important distinction here is that the push through is almost entirely the acceleration:deceleration ratio. Vanilla wh3 always has deceleration>acceleration, but lance moves it so that they have 8 acceleration and 7 deceleration, which let's them hold their speed and not alow down as they plough through. Mass is occasionally relevant to this with against high mass enemies, but is a minor part of what's going on there

    Im gonna say that i love grail knights being the strongest, and would also like to see cavalry being able to plow through formations more often for other races, but i think the best counter to this, is the halberd contact effect from SFO, it lowers acceleration and charge bonus upon contact, which would mean certain units like halberds would drag down cavalry and prevent them from curb stomping their way through

    I wonder to which extent it is better or worse to balance on a unit by unit basis as opposed to broadly balance factions. It's not that I think that Grail Knights and Guardians should remain as powerful as they are now but Ogres, Chaos, the Empire all focus less on cavalry than Bretonnia does.

      The issue with balancing unit by unit is both that
      1 - some units should be less cost effective, well used gnoblars on ogres shouldn't give the same % return as well used khorne warriors
      2 - many factions have some units far better due to the support they have - if the empire with all their ranged options and variety was cost effective across the board, they would be far more powerful than say, vampire counts who lack that variety in unity role

    Honestly, I am perfectly fine with Bretonnia having the grail knights be a bit overtuned. Cavalry is all they have. It is their signature thing. It is what they are known for. Hence it is nice to see that Grail Knights can finally defeat Blood Knights, as they should always have.
    The Empire, High Elves, Vampires Counts, etc. etc., should not have access to stronger cavalry than Bretonnia in my opinion. Just like Bretonnia should not have access to stronger archers than the Wood Elves.
    The Empire is known for their "jack of all trades, master of none"/combined arms approach. Hence why they should not have access to the strongest anything-unit (infantry, cavalry, artillery, etc.). As it defeats the purpose, if you are a jack of all trades, master of some.

      Brettonian infantry melts vs empire infantry, everyone says yes that's how it should be, empire artillery kills brettonian artillery, yes that ads up, empire shooting kills brettonian shooting, yup makes sense, but the moment brettonian have better cav

      If you would balance the game by lore bretonia would be stomped.

      @@minime3252 Unfair comparisons there. Obviously the upper echelons of the Elves and Lizards would be stronger. Some of them are thousands of years old, whilst Grails can only reach 300 or so. But an average Grail vs an average Elf or Saurus? The Grail probably wins

    My only thought as to why the grail knight mass could be intended to be higher than monstrous cav is to make the wedge formation feel more valuable as a unique thing. I don't know if it makes sense, but that's my best guess.

    SFO has a Halberd ability called cavalry bane that probably fixes the infinite pull through problem. CA should simply implement that.

    Always happy to see my favorite faction get an update :)
    Grail knight super charges are fun to see but need a bit of tuning
    I'd like grail vows to see some changes
    Currently the quest for the grail is basically finding the least worthy quest and doing the bare minimum. While this is a very bretonnian thing to do I'd like to have quests be more epic. Give me a small narative maybe 1 or 2 stops and an appropriately challenging quest battle i can auto resolve. Or occupy 5 settlements to complete you vow. At the very least make the legendary lord quests much less restrictive.
    Ideally I'd like small narative quests with quest battles (like sea exploration battles) nothing that'd get annoying but still feel like a quest. And give the lord some bonuses for completing his quest. Pledge to mannan could give Aquatic to the lord's army and income from ports. Pledge to campaign could be Paladin hero capacity and even more campaign movement or maybe movement at sea. And for the love of god Lords with the vow of the grail should have a fire sword! That has always annoyed me!

    Finally, after all these years, it’s time to play my first Bretonnia campaign.
    I believe they should be able to plow through a single, and maybe even 2 braced units. Just allow them to take more damage. You’ll charge through, but you’re going to have models start getting cut down once you are in that second unit.

    As someone who figured out what caused this, I'm 100% sure that the cause is Entity Size, not acceleration. Because when I change Knight of the Realms/Questing Knights' size to Large like GG/GK & Mournfang, they'll do the exact same thing when in Lance formation.
    Anywho, I think CA will figure out the actual problem soon and they should have a good solution for it.

    I'd love to see Blood Knights and Chaos Knights brought up a little closer to Grail Knights. Grail Knights should definitely be dumping on demigryphs with halberds, though. They've either struggled or outright lost against them for too long in the games history.

    I like the changes, they might be a bit over tuned but that can be fixed with some cost increases if needed. I am not sure about buffing other cav because those factions all have other things going for them bratonia doesn’t have a lot of things that other factions can bring to the table. The infinite pull through is definitely a bit of a problem.

    it WOULD BE awesome if they made the grail relique have quest on them in battle and the quest is map-wide like kill 100 units gives a buff to units around it but the kills are map-wide, that gives units like 5% stregth or defense if completed. kill a hero/ monster size unit like giant gain 5% damage reduction only in a certain radius around the relique.

    Pretty sure when they changed the distribution of mass, they added entity mass to unit mass instead of changing from unit mass to entity so they have tons of mass now.

    I feel like cav should take damage in collision but then they should be more effective than infantry in combat, so a lot of charge damage they deal and take a little. So you can’t infinitely cycle charge

    That is a believeable charging with horse. I have done it in a country that is feudal, when I was a diplomatic travels, Ran down 90 people without slowing.. so seems believable to me.

    Maybe they can change cav the way it impacts on certain unit types. For example it should have problems with plowing though halberds bracing and heavily armoured units with high mass. Or at least go back as it was and making it easier to pull out of infantry after charging in.

    they need to make the AI attack after you hurt them in melee, they do if you use spells or ranged attacks but not melee. It is kinda stupid that they just stand there and let you cycle charge them to death.

    84 speed for heavily armored cav is a bit jarring to me considering light cavalry are just 92 speed.
    The most extreme example I can think of would be grail knight (120 armor, 84 speed) vs Wild riders (40 armor, 85 speed)
    All heavy cav needs to be rolled back to 75 speed imo, although an exception could be made for Bret's medium cav to 78 or 80 speed since cav is their core units

    Grails knights and guardians are absolutely broken now, not sure what is there to be happy about. They are one of the most op units ever, that counters their counters 3 times over.

      And for the Bret players that status is hiding the hard nerf their entire infantry roster took. When--and it's always when--the GK get hit with the nerf bat Bretonnia will be in a worse place than they were before.

    IDK Cavalry should always crush through infantry ranks even if it seems "OP" that's what they designed for of course not against giants but for the normal infantry dude with no spear it should be fine. This Cavalry topic has been in since Game one and CA hasn't found till yet a good way to make CAV useful now that Bret got a nice update since 2 years it looks for me normal. Take for example shogun 2 Cav they also crushed through ranks even against Yari from behind. Or make it so that their initial impact dmg is high enough to kill the full first row and dmg the second if they shouldn't pass through them. I often see them engaging getting stuck and swarmed to death even with pulling out and dealing small DMG numbers

    Tech tree with confederation is still a joke as the factions get massacred. Lords, Paladins and Knights Errant still have issues where their heraldry don’t match. Damsels in desperate need of a remodel. The Fay Enchantress having issues with weird clouds around her ass and head with lightning in her eyes when she is not mounted on Silvaron. There’s still so much CA need to fix with Bretonnia and that’s not to mention the cool DLC/FLC they could still get.

    How hard is it to implement a new system? Something like a charge resistance that will counter cavalry mass for spears, but it wont apply, or apply less to small units or non anti-large (and I dont mean the whole bracing system because it's really faulty and easily flanked out, or requires insane macro on single unit) I feel everyone wants their cavalry to feel satisfying but at the same time dont want spear or bulky armored units thrown around like they are made of paper. Maybe a system like charge fatigue, which would slow down a charge the more units cavalry passes through, that would build up during charges and would slowly fade over a course of 10-20 seconds, and different units like gobbos vs halberds would build up this fatigue differently... Im sure there's smart people who can come up with better answers. But as it is I dont think just changing stats would cut it. We either have cavalry and chariots that are unstoppable, or they get stuck on 2 small units and are useless, they either melt stuff they charge or take more damage themselves after charging a unit. As I said, I believe stat or mass changes may not be enough. Until new system is introduced it will probably just be a wave of buffing and nerfing stuff and a lot of unsatisfied players. Maybe CA needs another poll, this time with ideas how to balance out the mass/charge problems.

    ive been tweaking like crazy with mass and its a terrible stat to tweak for push through effect, instead there is a stats called "kf/kd/kb collision treshold" in battle_entities_tables and tweaking that gives crazy good results for pushthrough and currect unit behaviour.
    find it funny that they are tweaking on mass, which just doesn't work: but i've done it for too many hours too hehe, dont feel so dumb now.
    mass also give weird weight to units that shouldnt have, like 2 tons for greenknight and his horse. how?...
    yer so tweak those if anyone see's this or can inform them ^^

      another point though.
      i like that footsize troops can't block heavy cav easily and even less monsters, i wouldn't mind such taking high dmg bursting through but they should not be noteworthy slowed by doing so.
      also even with a changes a single large entity stops that charging through real fast and makes you take a lot of dmg by being stopped. ^^
