I am a contributor for an online radio that airs on Saturdays Nights and we play 4 hours of metal bands with women leading or co-leading bands. It's allowed me to experience hundreds of amazing bands from all over the planet. We play Epica, Nightwish and have a library of thousands of bands. There are SO MANY freaking talented people all over the earth right now! This is a clip that I've seen many MANY times and really dig it!
Cool. That's a radio show I'd definitely be interested in. RUclips might not allow you to post a link but what is the name of the show so I can find it?
I wondered about this very thing. Is there more talented people today than in the past, or do we now have more access to more talented people because of the internet? I grew up 50 miles from a major U.S. city and the only individuals or bands we were exposed to were the ones on the radio. On a side note, have you listened to a band called The Warning? They are 3 sisters from Monterrey, Mexico (ages 23, 21 and 18). They have 3 albums, play rock/hard rock and are awesome live! A couple of weeks ago they gave up a gig opening for Guns N' Roses to go play the Extended Stage and the MTV VMA's.
This performance is from Epica's Tenth Anniversary Concert. They pushed the boat out & shipped in the symphony orchestra plus male and female choirs to join them for this special 3 hour long concert - hence the conductor. Floor from Nightwish is a good friend of Simone Simons, the pregnant singer from Epic, have know each other for many years and have frequently sang together - she contributes one more song. The whole three hours are up on RUclips and are more than worth searching for. This year they celebrated their 20th anniversary with a virtual concert and then took it on the road. Again - well worth watching
As another reactor pointed out, can we also take a moment to appreciate the poor sods who had to mic up that stage, with dozens of instrumentalists and vocalists all with wildly different natural levels, all close together, who mustn't interfere with each other? There's a reason there's so much Perspex up there...
It is a different style, rhythm and pace obviously, but somehow every time I watch this performance, it gives me the vibes of "The Flower Duet" off "Lakme". Just something in the way the two voices blend, just a little apart bust so compatible! One of the great moments absolutely.
You have 2 of the greatest symphonic metal sirens together and it's so beautiful and yes that word epic. But what makes this so amazing is that Floor and Simone are having so much fun and being playful to each other. They trust each other so well that it's so pure. I'm so glad you love it!🌹

Hi Jules, here is an EPICA performance which is right up to date, a song from a show earlier this year in Amsterdam, Simone is incredible, I think you will be impressed 🙃 EPICA - Unleashed (Live At The AFAS Live)
As a bald shaved man who had long hair in his younger days it’s all about relaxing your neck and to swirl your head around as you tip forward and backwards a bit without effort. It shouldn’t take to much effort, it’s a fairly smooth undertaking as long as you don’t head bang straight forward and backward that is not pleasant. It’s more like making an oval as you turn as if you’re dipping the oval forward and backward.
you really need to listen to Epica unleashed live retrospect, you will get chills, these two songs with floor are nice, but nowere near what epica can do.
Hi, you seem to like "Epic" music! Well then I have the ultimate for you! Ayreon!! and start with "The day the world breaks down" duration no less than 13 minutes! And you will be surprised which famous singers you will see in this (No spoiler :) And then Ayreon Live with "Everybody dies" here too there is a surprise at the end!
Retrospect was their 10th anniversary show, it was a 3 hour show with just about everything. Sancta Terra was the second last song in the main set so Simone had been on stage over 2 hours at this point and she was 3 months pregnant. What an epic concert! Floor and Simone both trained under the same opera vocal coach (Amanda Somerville), so I think that they may have practiced together a bit 😁 Love ya Jules! It's always a bright spot in my day when you drop a reaction 🤗
I have a sneaking suspicion that Amanda Soberville being Fleur's vocal coach might be in the same realm as Floortje and Smoon being roommates when studying nuclear physics at a conservatory in Amstelhavn, Dutchmark, as well as Mark and Floor being siblings (oh wait, they must've been married, ma bad), and After Forever breaking up due to evil Amanda stealing Fleur's boyfriend. By the way, here's Amanda singing with Epica: ruclips.net/video/SU2_Kos1oOY/видео.htmlsi=T46Z1rdZQRIhr0-o&t=2074
@@noneofyerbeeswax8194 Except this is true. Simone has talked about her in many interviews, and she subbed as lead singer of Epica when Simone was ill. Floor was coached by Amanda during her After Forever days, but they had a falling out.
@@Duskwind_ I have no doubt that Amanda was Simone's coach, but I'm yet to find any confirmation that she was Floor's too. Amanda wasn't a member of AF production team until "Invisible Circles", by which point Floor didn't really need any coaching anymore.
Very weird to see that the clip is mirrored, so used to see Simone starting on the left, now on the right 🙂 BTW did you notice Floor's outfit? Wacken 2013 (first half)
FYI: Retrospect is the 3rd live album by Dutch symphonic metal band Epica in celebration of their tenth anniversary. The recorded live show took part in Eindhoven, Netherlands. Because of the great demand by international fans, Epica announced a live stream, called the Retrostream, on March 4, 2013. Epica performed on stage with the same orchestra that accompanied Epica in the recording of the live album The Classical Conspiracy: the 70-piece Extended Hungarian Remenyi Ede Chamber Orchestra and the Choir of Miskolc National Theatre.
Both singers contribute(d) to Ayreon, and that is a cradle of close friendships between musicians and has no room for diva-ish antics. Floor is very friendly to all artists in her style. She gets along quite well with nightwish' first singer Tarja. Alma mater of Dutch symphonic metal is Anneke van Giersbergen. She too is an Ayreon contributor. As was Marko Hietala, former base player of Nightwish. Together with Tuomas Wäinölä, the three are about to finish a Latin America tour. Simone played a prominent role (as the doomed Indian) in the Ayreon opera "Into the Electric Castle." (Btw she perished being overwhelmed by Death spirits played by two of her Epica band mates)
While Sancta Terra arguably is not typical of Epica (and was not originally a duet) it is a great example of the ideas behind Epica -- Sound that is so huge and layered and complex, typical of symphonic metal it is theatrical and dramatic and cinematic, but they can also be remarkably experimental. They really are a remarkable band with an excellent pedigree.
"We're a powerful duo." Wait, the KISS?!👀 Hmm.. If you take a look at the thumbnail of that "Sweet Curse" video, the (made-up) "roommates" story might get a different flavour to it...😁
When you head bang, watch this vid again with way Floor does the wind milling. She has her hands on her hips, bend like their doing. It protect your neck! Have fun!
You missed the French Horn wandering around under them as you were first talking about their head-banging. I think it's really fun. And there's a guy singing a line below them right before the end.
if you like metal with a Symphonic orchestra in the back ground you should check out Dimmu Borgir live at wacken 2007 if i remember. its Symphonic black metal so no opera singing like you hear with Symphonic. but its epic none the less.
You really need to do reaction videos to Tommy Johansson he plays guitar for sabaton and doe his own band and does covers and upgrades. He can sing anything so well he is considered the male floor jansen
And then the fact that during this concert of 23 songs, Simone (the red haired) was 12 weeks pregnant. I don't know about Dutch metal artists. But even pregnant they go on and on and on. Floor recently even collapsed 6 months pregnant after a Nightwish show completely exhausted. She had to be taken to hospital. Now she is finally resting.
Whenever I watch Epica I imagine Simone going to the baggage claim at the airport and there is a quire a full orchestra with a conductor sliding on the bands with suitcases of normal people 😁😁😁

This was an Epica anniversary concert of their 10th anniversary. This is not a Nightwish concert in Nightwish never uses an orchestra never has but Epica has on several concerts over the years.
There is a lot of commonality between classical music and especially heavier metall, even outside of symphonic metal, so seeing collaberations from metal bands with orchestras are not that "uncommon" if you look for it.
The phrase "being out of breath" is not in Floors dictionary. And for someone that inhales on Fridays, only to exhale on Tuesdays, why would you you need to know those words.
they actually don't sing really classical style, then their microphones probably would just fall apart :) , it's more like they make it sound like it, a very light high mix voice or something like that. this way they also have better air support and are able to headbang in between. with real opera voice they would end up having a very hard time getting enough air to sound this beautiful
