I'm Julia, a Contemporary Singing Specialist (vocal coach, singing teacher, academic, performer) and today I am reacting to and breaking down NIGHTWISH performing The Greatest Show On Earth (TAMPERE, 2015). Floor Jansen continues to blow my mind, Tuomas's compositions and the bands stage dynamics, consistency, level of skill are truly superb. I hope you enjoy my react!

Floor: "WILL YOU SING WITH US?" [belts in G5]
20,000 Finns the next morning: "Why can't I talk?"
I wanted to sing with her :( But what came out sounded more like a mouse squeak.
@@kujika Crikey! You're lucky, I didn't even manage that!
Lol , plus she just sang a whole concert already , just amazing !!
😂😂
I think Floor would assume that you will put it some octaves lower. I know what that sentence means theoretically, but I would probably just yell and sound like a drunk idiot anyway.
Can we just appreciate the Mad Genius that is Tuomas Holopainen?
Talents like him are said to be born once a century. In ancient times, he may have become a songwriter, componist or musician we remember fondly even today.
Let us make sure that happens.
Let's make sure this comment gets a million likes and more. Tuomas Holopainen truly is a musical and poetic genius.
...i think, its not far the day when there will be a section for music lessons in school for Mr.Holopainen..so that our children and grandchildren will know..
Respect!
Bach was in the 17th century, Mozart even later. What more have we to expect from Tuomas? What will he be remembred?
I look at it in the way Dawkins sums it up in the end monologue.
If we are lucky enough to have Tuomas Holopainen, then can you imagine the calibre of person who wasn't lucky enough to win the lottery of life?
Nightwish... the only band that makes a 21 minute song that leaves you wanting more at the end
Check out parts 1-3 of Painters of the Tempest by Ne Obliviscaris dude. 22 minutes of incredible folk influenced progressive metal
The Odyssey - Symphony X and The Great Escape - Seventh Wonder as well :p
Unleash the Archers make a 7 minute Awakening seem like the prelude. It's like time both pauses and accelerates when you get lost in music like this
Check out mago de oz la cantada del diablo
Dream Theater - Change of Seasons
Floor: Enter Luca
Marco: Enter Iona
Empuu: Enter Sandman!
OMG this really cracked me up. I was just drying my emotional tears from the song and now I m crying from laughter 😂😂😂
How has this comment not received a million up-votes by now? I couldn't stop laughing!
Lol
@@chadichaarani6958 Yeah I heard the Enter Sandman riff there from Empuu. Nice pick up!
I'm so sad that she didn't get that reference. Makes me second guess watching her reactions at all.
well guys... I did it! I completed the Trinity :) yayyy!
the more I thought about this piece post edit the more things I wanted to comment on so I'll add a couple more things below.
the lyrical content for this song was incredible but simultaneously educational as heck.... I found myself googling some of the phenomena/things they mentioned because not only did the song make me curious/interested it also made me care about how lucky we are to exist and be here as we are. the music itself really captured that as incredible as evolution is it's has been all about survival and sometimes survival, growth or extreme change isn't beautiful OR comfortable.
let me know your thoughts on the vocal breakdown. a comment was left recently that made me consider the accessibility of the terminology I use so let me know if you'd like a break down minus any of the technical jargon.
overall... wow... holy heck .... yes. incredible.
hope you liked it!
I loved it! Cheers from the US 😁
the apesound is floor and marco you see it in the woodstock 2018 show
watched till the end. #WeWereHere :)
Thank You a lot of the sound producing analyze, now I must learn to talk again - LOL! The "pipe" is (atleast to IMHO?) an Overton Low D whistle, and the bagpipes Irish Uilleann pipes...
Tuomas has used London Philharmonic Orchestra as backtrack (f.e cello in the begnning) for his songs/ compositions??) I believe in this one too... and u are right about searching throught google to find out what does the text mean, phew!
Two words: Awesome reaction!
"How does one even emotionally recover from a Nightwish concert?" ......... You can't. I was privileged enough to play the drums for a band that opened for them in Auckland, New Zealand in 2013. To this day the experience is as fresh as it was back then. I was able to recommend a few local brews to Emppu and Marco after their soundcheck and my wife had the task of guarding the toilet door for Floor as the lock was broken (Floor was eternally grateful for that). The thing made me laugh was with in about two minutes of them finishing their set Floor had traded her knee high boots for jandles. It was a hot night after all. We watched the set the played from dam as near side of stage. It was amazing. I hope to see them again back here in New Zealand.
Wow! To be in New Zealand is a privilege, I was there a long time ago, most amazing place and people but hey, you met nighwish there !!! I’d be delighted even if any of the band sent me a text message 🤣
Lucky bastard!
in what band did/do you play?

Also floor: Good luck with that lol
@@allengator1914 No. It's clearly Floor Jansen on stage. Tarja was kicked out YEARS before this show.
Even Floors parents were at this show. I don't think they would be, if it wasn't Floor on stage...

Floor: It's a simple G5 made in the final act of a 21 minute song, at the end of the show.
well, she does a beautifull well sustained D6 for 8 seconds in the Phantom of the Opera with Henk Poort...
@@rientsdijkstra4266 but I believe that D6 is falsetto, while this G5 is not...
@@EmanueleCorsi You could be right, although I never use the word "falsetto" (which contains the word: "false", and therefore has a negative connotation). I would say "lyrical headvoice", which is not "false" at all, if you get my drift...
@@rientsdijkstra4266 Yep I got it. I'm italian so "falsetto" is quite a normal word for me and no offense is intended 😅 I think the origin in the word stands in the fact that it's a technique requiring to change somehow your original vocal timbre, so the "false" reference...
@@EmanueleCorsi Ah, ok, I understand, thanks! I think we can say that a belted G5 is about as impressive as a D6 in lyrical headvoice / falsetto. Both are awesome! 😎🤘
Floor's parents were present during this concert. At the end she gets emotional. 💕
That made me tear up.
In another TV documentary Floor breaks down in tears when she sees her parents in the documentary in the audiance at Tampere looking at Floor and her mother in tears. Floor is a beast and angel on stage but in real live very humble.

"how does one even emotionally recover from a Nightwish concert?" one doesn't, I was there and now 5 years later I'm still crying when watching this, and it's all very much worth it and more
Same here with the Wacken 2013 concert. Greets from Germany!

On a serious point, can we give Kai Hahto a lot of respect? The underlying drums made this entire song, and bearing in mind he only came in very recently (relative to this), replacing a man that was in this band for 20-odd years, Kai played an absolute stormer.
This is what Gandalf would listen to before he went to face Balrog at the Bridge of Khazad-dûm. Thank you for your insightful analysis, Julia. I had fun watching your commentary and participating in the live chat 🙋

i use to live about 300 meters away in front of that stage and just open my window and hear many great gigs in that stadium, including this one
I started listening to Nightwish when i was 5 years old. I am 21 now and been to 2 concerts. You have no idea how much this band means to me. It saved my life so often and if this band ever stopps existing I will cry oceans.
You shoud whatch "the islander" from this concert! this song performed by Marco, and his cleans are so beautifull
Eugene Art Agreed!
Yes...
Marco is great singer. Stunning as a Phantom, calm and subbtle in The Islander and devilish in the Devil and the deep dark ocean. He is the best change in the group ( former bassist was on first 2 cds)
@@frantaf Actually the former bass player Sami Vänskä was playing bass on the second and third album, on the first one Nightwish didn't have a bass player and Emppu was playing the bass for the record. Samppa Hirvonen was the live session bass player during that time and Marco joined the band for the fourth album.
@@mattitu I forgot the first one. I have Oceanborn and Wishmaster cds dont have Angels.
She's my favorite female singer for almost 20 years . She can do everything with her voice . What pleasure to listen
Most sing what they can, but Floor sings what she wants 🤷🏼♂️
Mine too. Best I've ever heard
I swear I've seen this performance about 20 times and goosebumps still come just as prevalent as the first.
absolute TRUTH!
True still
Nobody puts on a spectacle quite like Nightwish! They are bar far better then any band at telling a story through their music and only Nightwish can make a long song end too soon. You just want their music to never end! This is such an amazing example of just how amazing this band is and why they are in my top 2 bands all time! I was hooked the first time I heard them over 20 years ago and they have never failed to impress me, in fact they have actually gotten better with every passing year! This performance is a masterclass on how it should be done! This performance brings it all! Floor and Tuomas in my opinion are the two greatest musicians on this planet today, maybe ever!
after the "Bach/Mozart" reference he plays a tribute riff to Metallica,Enter Sandman, there were several other tributes played throughout the masterpiece by the Metal Mozart.
there's some "ebm" thing also going on there for a second that could be a reference to Mason Bates "Mothership"
And there's an electronic beat right after it
there's also seems to be a reference to Megadeth - Symphony of destruction in here as well...
darude - sandstorm
gotta be
The musical reference part starts with African tribal drumming (right stereo track), continuing with American native singing/barking (left stereo track), then a medieval flat vocal hymn while flute doing “Dies Irae”, then comes unknown tunes of harpsichord from Renaissance era, then Petzold’s (former credited to Bach) "Minuet” from Baroque era played with fortepiano, then female vocals singing some classical song (pa-da-da-da-da...), then some claim to come American banjo music, then that guitar riff from "Enter Sandman", and finally the bassline that some say it's from "I Wish I Had An Angel" or "Symphony of Destruction".
You should see floor do the metal growl in there song yours is an empty hope just try it
Floor really growls in:
Revamp - disdain
Revamp - wildcard
Yeah, it was really deep and bassy. She did some growling in Revamp and After Forever too.
But YIAEH Wembley version.
Yes, and in addition to ReVamp and After Forever, Floor also growls during her guest appearance in Soilwork's Let this River Flow (Live in the heart of Helsinki 2015)
@@Esther-217 That's cool. I gotta check that out. Thanks for the head's up.
That Bach' minuet is part of the musical evolution to represent the human civilization development. Bach's minuet, banjo bluegrass, Metallica's Enter Sandman on electric guitar, than techno music.
The references start with the tribal drums. The fluets before the minuet are reference to Dies Irae, Day of Wrath - A Chant from the Traditional Latin Requiem Mass. After the minuet there is also another reference to Bach the infamous Toccata and Fugue in D minor, then Sandman etc. Thought I would add something to the reference list, altough I am sure there are number of gems hidden in the piece. :)
I knew i heared the riff of Enter Sandman @ some point, thx for preventing me from searching.
How do you recover from a Nightwish show? You don’t! You relive it in your memories on a regular basis. I still get goosebumps thinking about the few shows I’ve seen
Yesss, we did it until the end .. . We were here!
Talking about vocal stamina. This was the last song of the set, the previous song to this was Ghost Love Score! Another vocal beast.
I cannot properly express the feeling inn the crowd during this song. It has an indescribable sense of fellowship with the other fans, and feels like an unstoppable force.
And yes I watched to the end
Yes, I made it to the end easy, of your 40 min. reaction, and even sometimes rewound a bit or stopped to read your remarks on top. So lets say, it took an hour of my time, or better said: it gave me an hour lifetime that was well spent. Feels even like we shared time a bit. But you did all the preparation! Thank you so very much! ❤️
PS Your technical breakdown was a bit deeper than most other vocal coaches do or dare, I think this was better: perfect.
Your insight into the actual techniques being used are amazing. There are a few folks out there who want to see some RUclipsrs on Floor Finds (Floor's own channel "show"), and since she has mentioned that not enough folks break down the techniques, I threw your name in the hat, hopefully I get to see you fangirl on Floor's channel.
Just a bit on you as a reactor. I’ve seen many, from the lay-person/fan to “vocal coaches” respond to this exact performance and most have been glowingly positive. That said, you are exquisite to experience. Zero jealousy which displays your self assurance and makes the compassion that you display actually worth witnessing and probably genuine. An absolutely lovely compassionate countenance coupled with obvious expertise. You do not need to be emotionally broken by a performance to have genuine pleasure light up across your face and offer us worthwhile insight as to the impressive gymnastics and athletics provided here. You are well worth the time and attention, so please never feel too long winded as you are an equal pleasure to experience alongside this band of humans from another planet 😁. You and Chase Carneson are both exquisite and I thank you.
Could not agree more! Stay yourself, you are an EXPERT, it is a pleasure to watch, it is like a journey!
I would put Elizabeth of The Charismatic Voice right up there with both Chase and Julia for explaining in a beautiful, intelligent and constructive way what is happening in the music and vocals. 🤘
Comming back and forth for watching nightwish reactions and there is still one and only one, who can describe what I feel and cannot explain, because I'm not a musician (only and programmer with math skills ;) ) to explain. Thanks a lot Julia, for your "top notch" reactions. I have to say my native tongue is German so excuse my poor English.
The Wembley crowd looked at Dawkins like Jesus came down from heaven right on to the stage 😁
Lmao, I can just hear Kent Hovind in my head: "SEE?? It IS a religion!" xD
As a noob, learning singer, this is pure freaking gold. Please more of this beautiful style of analyzing Floor's singing and Nightwish music in general. You are amazing!
The way Floor keeps that big smile while she's singing is just **Heart Eyes**
As a music photographer I will love you forever for crediting Tina for her photo you used at the latter part of the video. Also the reaction and your insight was impeccable as always! Thank you so much.
"Leave everything on the stage.", is why they close with this song. It's a throat stunner alright. Lol
Every single second was worth it. Thanks for this, Julia. You are the best!!!
Floor brings all the onions to the yard
Nightwish was the first concert I ever went to. I was 15. I've been too dozens of concerts since but nothing could ever compare to the way Nightwish made me feel. I still havent emotionally recovered.
One of the reasons why this was so emotional for Floor was the fact that her parents were attending this show in Tampere. There is an interview with them before the show for a Dutch program as well as with Marko and Tuomas.
This song's end always drives me to tears, because of the beauty of the song and the past tense in the lyrics...
Yes, dozens hearing, still the same result. Still can't understand how something like this could be created a performed.
Thank you, Julia. Thank you, Nightwish ♥️
Thank you Floor Jansen ❤
Daaaang. That was a great video. I found your breakdown at the end exceptionally informative and helpful. As an utter layman in terms of music theory and vocal technique, I appreciate you taking the time to explain the vocal mechanics and the sorcery of performance art. Thank you so much for this incisive analysis (and for your emotional impressions). You nailed it.
Also, tell Caption Julia hi for me and that I love her. She deserves a little appreciation as well.
Thank you.
Seriously.
Caption Julia says thanks for the support and that she's glad you enjoyed the video.
Every few weeks I go on a binge watching voice coaches react to Nightwish, and when I found your stuff, it instantly climbed among my favorites
Hey Julia,
many thanks for this rich and insightful reaction. This hasn't been done on this level so far. You really set a new bar for quality vocal reactions.
I can only hope you come back to Nightwish and their members again. There is still more to discover from the band itself and their solo projects. If you don't mind, a nice thing to do is a comparison (not in the sense of a competition) of "Phantom of the Opera" Floor performed together with Henk Port on Beste Zangers and the "original" Nightwish version with Tarja and Marco doing it. Personally I love both interpretations for different reasons and would be excited to hearing your thoughts on it.
GreeZ from Germany
these are both great renditions for very differnt reasons!
The animal-like growls is mostly Marco, but Floor and Troy usually add backing vocals too :)
And yeah it was cool to see you catch the little Bach tribute! But not just that - Tuomas uses that whole instrumental section (mins 14 to 15 approx) to tell the story of music evolution: hidden behind the keyboard melody and the riffs, you can hear short fragments of different types of music throughout History: from tribal instruments to Gregorian to medieval to Bach to Metallica and lastly to electronic beats, all that in under a minute, and without losing the conducting melody. If that's not called art, I don't know what is :D
PS: I stayed till the very end :D
Floor is aiding quite heavy on it, like she does when encouraging the viewers to join in
"She's up at a G5!" and the eyeroll when back to the track may be the best moment in reaction history! I love your reactions and the input you give. Thank you.
"Floor's voice realy seems ready for anything at anytime" great comment and your right, it is.
This song was the end of a 16 song set list and they all look like its the first song. The song itself is a masterpiece for sure also this show was very special one for Floor, her parents were in the audience.
You've mentioned Floor's incredible endurance. Just to make it more absurd, this was the last song of a 2-hour performance. The classic recording of Ghost Love Score from Waken 2013 comes after over an hour of that show.
Just singing in church wears my voice out. Professional singers leave me in awe.
Thank you for taking so much time and putting in so much effort to do this video. I was one of the 1500+ that stayed til the end and appreciate you sharing you knowledge with us.
You being so young in your metal journey, when the music came back after the little classical concerto was a little guitar riff from Metallica's Enter Sandman! Keep up the great work and the Best Smile on RUclips! Rock on! 🤘
It's a collage of musical pieces exemplifying the evolution of musical history, there's an nursery rhyme, Bach's Toccata and Fuge, Enter Sandman and even and EDM bit after that. Can't remember all the names but it's easy to find.
I live a mile away from the stadium this was filmed at, whenever I see it I remember that ”we were here” and it makes me so sad. Especially since Marco has leff the band and the band stopped touring. There’s nothing left of that magical night in there, only videos on RUclips.
I always find it amazing at 8:30 with the line "the greatest show on earth" and they zoom on what seems to be twins, which to me is a fascinating thing in nature
Great reaction and analysis JN, kiitos. Someone said the little hidden melody bits were some African tribal drumming, a medieval hymn (Dies Irae), Johan Sebastian Bach (Christian Petzold) - Minuet in G major and Toccata & Fugue in D minor, American banjo music, Metallica - Enter Sandman and the bassline from Nightwish - I Wish I Had An Angel. Also Megadeth - Symphony of Destruction.
There's also a rap song at the end, I forget what it was, but someone mentioned it in another reaction and then someone looked it up and found the song.
Wasn't there also some electronic bit in there? All packed in a few seconds to show what humanity did music wise
@@AlexA-lz3em At 17:40 it sounds an awful lot like Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells, which is a pretty big deal if we're talking music history and electronic music. But they changed it up a little, falling down instead of up. And ofcourse very well known from it's use in the original movie The Exorcist.
This song brings me to tears every single time. One of the greatest songs ever regardless of your preference of genre imo. Having the lyrics up is mandatory for this, it's such a deep song. So fantastic!
Watching this reaction was absolutely fantastic. As someone who couldn't sing on pitch even if my life depended on it, I thoroughly enjoyed your easy-to-understand explanations about the vocal sound basics and how Floor does what she does to be such an incredible singer and performer. The zoom on her stomach to catch a glimpse of her breathing was also amazing, I've now learned to appreciate this 'simple' detail that I used to overlook.
Honestly, yours has very quickly become one of my favorite channels and I can't wait for your next videos! Love from Argentina :)
This is the BEST reaction/analysis from I've seen from a vocal coach.
Really appreciate you taking the time to analyze technics details of the performance, that makes all the difference.
Even Floor mentioned in a recent insta live she has not seen many reactions that go into the technical part of producing the sound she chooses for each section.
You and The Charismatic Voice have become my favorite reactors of late. I know nothing about singing, but it's nice seeing both of you beautiful ladies geeking out over other great performers. 😊 Floor is a gooddess.
Same here. There's a real vocal coach feel to them with minimal gimmicks.
Another good one is Chase Carneson. He isn't a vocal coach, but he hears music in an amazingly different way from anyone else I have ever heard. Give him a listen as well. He has brought a lot things forward that I have never noticed/heard before.
@@motherhubbard1560 Definitely agreed there. Though I've listened to this song so many times, Chase pointed things out that I never noticed. He's done that in literally every video I've seen of his. @War624 you should check him out!

@@TheSeeking2know Very well said, mate.
I love watching reaction videos because I ttuly enjoy seeing people fall in love with the music I love so much, but I hold a special appreciation for when experts (musicians, teachers, singers/vocal coaches, etc) not only react but lend their expertise to it. I'm a drummer of over 30 years, I'm not a singer and I never will be, but I love listening and hearing about the techniques used by these vocalists. It's fascinating. I have to say, your videos have been some of my absolute favorites because you combine your emotional responses with true knowledge and expert articulation. Some go so overboard with the "OMG THE FEELS" or just ramble buzzwords without actually analyzing or explaining anything. You portray very real reactions with actual analysis and meaningful commentary, and I commend you for it. No sensationalism, no overdone craziness or false pretentiousness, just pure you and your knowledge. Keep it up, I love what you put out there. Fantastic work. 🤘

@@allengator1914 This is absolutely Floor. You need to go back and review the lead singers and their different appearances.
@@Jhaiisiin Sorry I have a bootleg DVD of the Tampere show and it lists Tarja as lead vocalist, so if it's wrong then so am I.

And that's how you make an amazing reaction/analyses to this masterpiece. Vocally i was so impressed by your explanation!!! Floor and Marko were superb vocally. They voices blend amazingly and Floor's stamina and endurance during the whole f******* concert....., i can't even talk about that without having goosebumps! I loved your reaction. I Hope Floor reaches you and thanks you for your amazing job trying to decipher her tecniques. Thank you!! And i hope you continue to React to Nightwish and show us more of your knowledge about Floor's vocals. What a great reaction, and yes, I was here to the very end! The explanations of technique, how different registers are used to create the vocals and sounds, and the details at the end of how it all works together was something I feel is missing with many reactions I have seen. It is even better that you do all of that, but we still get to see your genuine emotional reaction to the performance as well. Superb job, Julia!
I'm here at the end of the video, and I'd stay longer. I'm not a vocalist, but the way you explain so much in such a compelling way makes me warp through time and not even feel it. Stay safe, take care, and cheers from Brazil
you should watch the reaction to this song of Chase Carneson, though while you have been concentrated on the vocalization more, he was after the music and what was going on
and during watching your vid the idea of a collaboration came to my mind, that would be so awesome, both of you professionals in your fields, both super likable and respectful in commenting, and i could imagine there would be so much synergy effects

Thank you for your diligence and for recognizing the humility of this band at the end of their performance! I love to see a band, who has been making great music for as long as they have, still be grateful to their audience! Love your reactions as well! Thanks!
Great reaction Julia!! and thanks for all your very very detailed explanations about what was going on vocally and beyond!! I always enjoy watching your reactions but this one was superb!! And, when you mentioned the relationship with the fans, I think you got the "inner life" of this band, this group of wonderful people (and great musicians, of course)
Stayed till the end :)
One of my favorite things about this band is how much they adore their fans, and how they interact. Marco is adorable :)
Great reaction Julia! I love how you go into detail to explain to us what is actually happening in something we all have watched a million times. You are an amazing content creator, keep up the good work 😁
Thoroughly enjoyed your commentary and breakdown of this epic story-form in music - and thanks for adding the narrative by Richard Dawkins. Stayed to the end - don't apologize - it was great. Thankyou so much.
23:22 I saw Nightwish live almost a decade ago and I still haven't recovered. Good luck to you.
Last time I was in Nightwish concert was when Tarja was still singing. Looking forward to see Floor singing live with Nightwish someday.
@@MikkoRantalainen yeah I saw them on the Once tour, which I just realised was a bit more than a decade ago.
Floor can reach even higher that G5. For that, you need to react to "The Phantom of the Opera" from Beste Zangers with Henk Poort.
BTW, the whole show is about a bunch of selected singers from Netherlands singing eachother's songs. Floor nails pretty much every song so you'll love reacting to those.
Floor ends The Phantom of the Opera in D6 but that is sung in a head voice so you can't really compare the two as she is belting high here which is way more difficult (D6 high is pretty standard for lyric sopranos in head voice). However Floor can actually belt higher than G5, her belt at the end of GLS is G#5 but Greatest Show on Earth is more taxing on stamina.
Yes, the Beste Zangers stuff is fantastic. Floor's solo version of Shallow is just gorgeous. (I am not really a Phantom fan - gasp!)
Every single person on that show was incredible! I would pay money to see them all so a concert together.
id love Julia to do all Floor songs from Beste Zangers. Here floor really shows her goddess status.
Always the same thing, tears etc 🤗 Heard this so many times but still. All the best from Finland (Lapland actually), stay safe 🤗
The tears have no nationality humis69
.
Julia, I really love your in depth analysis AND the way you do these. Usually I want people to pause a lot and let me in on what they're thinking straight away but with these nightwish songs I like your annotations for what is going through your head and how you let it play at times and then pause and explain at more appropriate times... the annotations are so great to explain when you're just vibing or pull a certain face (that I'm usually making at home too!). Kudos, your amazement at nightwish is matched by your amazing explanations at what is going on vocally with the arrangements 💞
I've spent pretty much my entire afternoon watching your videos about Nightwish! I looove how genuinely exited and amazed you get from listening to them, to Floor. You made my day, thank you! ❤️
Time well spent :-)
Nightwish - Last Ride of the Day (Live)
My fav, whit "Storytime"
Definitely "Song of Myself" Wacken
Great reaction. Very educational. I subscribe to Floor’s channel as well. She was asked if she watches reaction videos. She said she doesn’t usually because the reactions aren’t informative or helpful for aspiring singers to learn from. I believe she would appreciate your reaction. Cheers. Well done.
I JUST discovered Nightwish and as a result I also just discovered your channel. You are definitely my new favorite vocal coach to react to songs. I love the insight you give into songs and the performers. Absolutely amazing! Cannot wait to watch more of you!!
This is simply the best, the most in depth analysis of a song I have heard on You Tube! I learned so much (even if some of it went over my head... well I am kind of a short arse 😂) and you raised my appreciation as a music fanatic for the talents on show both vocally and musically. Having had the pleasure of seeing them a few times I can testify to how amazing they are live.
Thank you for taking so much time to do this I really appreciated it.
Take care too and all the best from Scotland.
Masterful and informative reaction and believe me I happily stayed to the end. I also appreciate that you gave yourself the space to actually enjoy the dang performance :)
Thank you. I've seen a few of these reaction format videos and I've got to say yours has to be the best. I'd imagine putting your extra comments in the corner must be pain during editing but it makes your videos flow so much better; worth the effort. Well done being so informative yet so unintrusive.
As for the song, incredible, it stirs uncontrolled emotion ......and I'm a grown arse man.
Well said...
...and I hope the rest of you catches up before too long.
What complete band . All the members are absolutely brilliant . I can't get over the singing it is so powerful and so precise but one thing that really impresses me is the drumming it's like a machine gun ,gets me every time and the woodwind section haunting and beautiful. I followed YES most of my life now in my 60s and night wish have taken it to a another level I'm so glad I stumbled upon them.
You did an exceptional review on this Julia. Thank you!
Thank you so much. This was really interesting and lovely to watch. The "we were here!" part always wrecks me too. It is such a powerful message that that moment transports... ah instant goosebumps just thinking about it! When I first heard this song I thought it was fascinating but for some reason didn't completely catch me. Sometime later I saw this Tampere performance and it completely captivated me from start to finish. Outstandingly well done by all of Nightwish and the effect team but yeah Floor... that Valkyrie of music is just so damn good with everything.
"We were here" is also there as a chorus in Alpenglow. That was half an hour earlier, but it still will help the audience picking up this chorus faster, even the ones that did not hear either song before the concert. Sometimes Tuomas is a sneaky bastard, in a good way. I don't think I have ever seen anybody else using this trick to engage the audience. And having your audience chanting "we were here" to you? Sneaky again. That will make them feeling even more satisfied that were actually there. I am sure Tuomas never thought about these psychological tricks when writing this piece. (not)
Well spent forty minutes, it was almost as fast as the twenty minutes when I watched the Greatest Show on Earth for the first time. Thanks for great commentary and a free lesson!
I love people's reactions to Nightwish. I'm gutted that I have to wait until May 2021 now to experience them live but with all that's happening I can live with that. This was a brilliant reaction. Floor is such a talented vocalist. I've seen a video of her perfect rendition of O mio babbino caro. Such talent.
Thanks for an amazing reaction! I appreciate the music so much more after someone can break down what makes it so great, and sometimes you hear or learn things you never noticed! Another reactor, I forget who though, noticed that at 18:42 in your vid there's a Metallica Enter Sandman riff, 20 seconds after that tune you heard in the background! I have a feeling that Nightwish play homage to numerous great pieces of music throughout history in this work of art
