One of my favorite songs from Nightwish. Oh, who am I kidding, they're all my favorite songs, depending on which one I'm listening to. Every single band member a true professional, at the top of their game. So many things to love about this song. Jukka bashing those drums like he is trying to destroy them, Floor stalking the mike, Marko carefully smoothing down his mustache and beard just before he goes into one of his roars. Emppu and Tuomas driving the beat. But, most of all, the music that this group of magnificent players produce is almost otherworldly. A band that respects its fans, and fans who respect the band.

You mentioned how Floor is so casual and relaxed on stage. She joined her first band called After Forever at around age 16-18. After that she started her own band called Revamp. By the time she joined Nightwish Floor already had many years and previous concerts worth of experience.

For me, Nightwish music really wins when you have a subwoofer because you can feel the sound of the bass and bass drums. Even the best headphones can't convey that feeling.

I don't think long hair is a requirement for joining a Symphonic Metal Band, but I do think classical training is a benefit, so that being said... :D Ever considered? Floor is an exceptional artist for sure, her range and versatility are out of this world. She does have a proper classical training and it shows. And I think you have not even heard her growl yet.

This song alternates between 7/4 in the intro (possibly 7/8, but then the syncopation is weird in 16th notes) and verses and 4/4 in the chorus and breakdown. I love odd time signatures like this! So much fun.
If at all possible, try listening with proper headphones. Nightwish music is so nuanced and layered with different sounds of instruments and choir, it gets that much better for experience.
Nightwish is a favorite for sure. I love Floor's voice - her tone, power, control, and presence of stage. She's commanding. Mesmerizing. Of course the rest of the band is amazing too. Until the Breakdown hits you with a 10 ton hammer it is all fun and games. But then the slow chugging monster with the machine gun riffing takes over. And for every Metal Head this lights up the day. No 2 in my favourites list. Marco is superb - I love his second entry (the rising gliss) so much I extracted it and have it as my ringtone. Favourite parts: Piano Black , and particularly the best description of depression I've heard - "sometimes the within is piano black". Piano black - that deep glossy black that almost evades the eye. Emppu holding that long note one-handed as he drinks a Corona. The unexpected pauses (rests) towards the end, particularly, in this performance, when Floor turns her hands upwards and the flames seem to come from her palms. Great chuggy rhythms in the breakdown. Little pizzicato string sections in the run-up to that ending. At the end the lead vocals use the same lyrics as the choir are singing in the earlier parts - "All that great heart lying still and slowly dying All that great heart lying still on an angelwing". That lyric is perfect for the staccato rhythm. ...and lots more
For another symphonic metal band, I can strongly recommend Within Temptation. They've been around about as long as Nightwish, and though their overall style is a good bit less varying, they're still an amazing band. There's also the Black Symphony concert where they played live with the Metropole Orchestra in Rotterdam 🥰 There's also quite a bit of overlap between fans of Nightwish and Sabaton... Not one bit operatic, it's (arguably) power metal, but their twist is that they're singing (almost) entirely about history, varius stories that are rarely brought up in history class, but are absolutely deserving to be told. Maybe not the best representation of their style, but still a really good starting point - in my opinion - is "Christmas Truce" (three guesses as to which historical event _that_ might be about 😝), and you _might_ notice something familiar towards the end... 😇
Floor’s presence and superb talent and the bands perfectionist live performances are second to none. They always amaze on all levels 🤘🤘 Riding the Nightwish express. It takes you away. You don’t know where they’ll take you but you know it going to be friggin’ epic.🤘🤘
Great comments. Symphonic metal tends to be epic and theatric by its nature - as well as the obvious orchestral layers, the songs tend to be very much narrative driven which seems to make songs into productions. I think that part of what makes Floor so great is that she doesn't just sing, but embodies the music in a way which is very uninhibited and very hard to look away from.

Hey Jules,it's a funny coincidense you asked about the hair.🤔 Floor cut her hair (1/3 went off) "short" and she was very honest about that and said that she got some "dead ends" and some thinner parts (if that make sence,i'm not a hairdresser😅) and i believe she said that she also got some hair "extensions". I think she still looks top notch with a little shorter hair and still goes for the "windmils",so, not much change there.😉🤘

Metal is universal,. You don´t have to have long hair or anything. Toll, small, bold or whatever, it´s in you heart and soul that makes you "metalhead" :) For example Phil Anselmo, Rob Halford etc...
This song, one of Nightwish's finest in my eyes, is about a songwriter (Tuomas) suffering from writer's block. If you read the lyrics knowing this, it all makes perfect sense.
The only requirement is for you to use headphones. You are missing a lot of details, in the arrangements and back tracks, without it. If you do so, you will like this genre even more.
Other Metal you have yet to discover: Epica, Release the Archers, Ayreon. But you might also be interested in VoicePlay - 'Valhalla calling' where Geoff sings a B0.
Long hair is not a requirement, but somehow it feels it gives some plausibility 😊 With that said, Floor cut her hair short this year, but it didn't affect her plausibility. And, I think you should try to sing with a metal band. Maybe just a one project or so, but I think it could be a great experience. But where to find a musicians that are capable to produce something even remotely close to Nightwish? Elizabeth from "Charismatic Voice" channel just did a "nightwish" song with Nik Noctural. You should check that out, it was great fun. Then I have a suggestions. #1 You should definitely use headphones while doing these reactions. It makes a world difference for you and us. #2 I don't think flipping a video will help with copyright issues. #3 Only way to monetize these reaction videos is, that you get Patreons or use service like "Buy Me a Coffee". I listen to a lot of bands, but what metal bands are familiar to you...if any? I can give a you a lot of suggestions, like some kind of metal 101 for noobies 🙂

Big Nightwish fan here. If your looking for some other metal bands to check out I would recommend TOOL the song 46 and 2 or the song the pot. Also SYSTEM OF A DOWN the song Toxicity. Then there is the all time greats LED ZEPPELIN the song stairway to heaven. Hope you enjoy these.
There are a lot of short-haired or even shaven-headed people in metal bands, usually the drummer (which I always thought made sense, because it almost seems like an athletic choice: "To keep my hair from getting in the way") or the lead vocalist, (where it seems like more of a stylistic choice.) I'm sure there are bands where that's predominant, but it seems like it's usually just one or two people, and everybody else goes for the traditional longhair look...Sometimes, guys make a mid-career switch, but that's usually out of necessity...
Long hair isn't always required. It's sometimes a band's asthetic, some times it's personal. See the lead singers of Blind Guardian, Sabaton, Mutoid Man, or Karnivool for guys rocking short hair.

Hansi Kürsch from "Blind Guardian" has regular hair, in fact if you meet him on the street you would guess he's a librarian of something similar. His band is more Power Metal though.
9-44 Having long hair for a woman in the field of hard music is not a condition, for example Gail Ann Dorsey with her haircut also managed it (guitarist and backing vocals for David Bowie or Lenny Kravitz), or the singer Skin from Skunk Anansie 😊

We also love Nightwish, especially because their appearance, mimicry, pyrotechnics, light color, music and lyrics form one whole, while they are not tempted to do so in a simple, straightforward pop music style, but really tell their story. That makes every next song completely different from the previous one. I really like your reactions, but...............please, PLEASE, don't release videos that are mirrored. Hard to watch the band play reversed guitars, high keyboard riffs on the lower 88's, and Jukka's drum kit totally flipped. I have never seen a NW video blocked, so don't worry about that!!

The atmosphere in the band was completely different 10 months before. The band was dead because they had estranged with their singer on the current tour and didn't have a singer anymore. Floor saved the band back then. Here she had already agreed to be the new singer in the band. Metal comes from wanting to play the heaviest, wildest hard rock. You want to be a rebel and the long hair suits that. Metal is established today. Long hair is a tradition, but not a must. The song has two meanings: First, it is a homage to the American poet Walt Whitman and his Song of Myself. On the other hand, it is part of the album/film music Imaginaerum. The main character is dying trying to write down to his daughter what he never told her. But he's too ill to finish it. A collection of quotes follows in the studio version. Unfortunately they only played this song on the Imaginaerum Tour. It is uncertain when the next tour will take place. There will be no tour for the next album because the band wants a break. So long hair is what many have but there are exceptions. I personally started out on guns nroses metallica and bon jovi then discovered manowar and helloween. And many others. Halloween made it into my top favorites because they are crazy funny and very melodic though ridiculously fast at times. Intense guitar solos even harmony solos and today with all former singers on board crazy good voices. They were genre defining in the 80s. Something different alluding to classical music a lot would be hapsody. Crazy guitar neoclassical style great voice and orchestra sounds interwoven..... That mifht be sth Special for you as an opta singer.

You mentioned how Floor is so casual and relaxed on stage. She joined her first band called After Forever at around age 16-18. After that she started her own band called Revamp. By the time she joined Nightwish Floor already had many years and previous concerts worth of experience.
This song, my top one is absolutely beautiful. All of this song hits me: the lyrics, melody, drums. That Jukka's drumming and double kick. And Tuomas (keyboards) thank you for writing and composing these beautiful music. And thank you dear MC for showing these beautiful Nightwish videos 🤘🥁😊

For me, Nightwish music really wins when you have a subwoofer because you can feel the sound of the bass and bass drums. Even the best headphones can't convey that feeling.

Nightwish is fantastic and Floor fits in perfectly with her range and ability to sing such a broad variety of styles.
This song alternates between 7/4 in the intro (possibly 7/8, but then the syncopation is weird in 16th notes) and verses and 4/4 in the chorus and breakdown. I love odd time signatures like this! So much fun.
If at all possible, try listening with proper headphones. Nightwish music is so nuanced and layered with different sounds of instruments and choir, it gets that much better for experience.
You should definitely experience a big Nightwish show .
Nightwish is a favorite for sure. I love Floor's voice - her tone, power, control, and presence of stage. She's commanding. Mesmerizing. Of course the rest of the band is amazing too. My other favorite metal band is from Japan - Lovebites. So, so talented.

Marco is superb - I love his second entry (the rising gliss) so much I extracted it and have it as my ringtone.
Favourite parts:
Piano Black , and particularly the best description of depression I've heard - "sometimes the within is piano black". Piano black - that deep glossy black that almost evades the eye.
Emppu holding that long note one-handed as he drinks a Corona.
The unexpected pauses (rests) towards the end, particularly, in this performance, when Floor turns her hands upwards and the flames seem to come from her palms.
Great chuggy rhythms in the breakdown.
Little pizzicato string sections in the run-up to that ending.
At the end the lead vocals use the same lyrics as the choir are singing in the earlier parts -
"All that great heart lying still and slowly dying
All that great heart lying still on an angelwing". That lyric is perfect for the staccato rhythm.

For another symphonic metal band, I can strongly recommend Within Temptation. They've been around about as long as Nightwish, and though their overall style is a good bit less varying, they're still an amazing band. There's also the Black Symphony concert where they played live with the Metropole Orchestra in Rotterdam 🥰
There's also quite a bit of overlap between fans of Nightwish and Sabaton... Not one bit operatic, it's (arguably) power metal, but their twist is that they're singing (almost) entirely about history, varius stories that are rarely brought up in history class, but are absolutely deserving to be told. Maybe not the best representation of their style, but still a really good starting point - in my opinion - is "Christmas Truce" (three guesses as to which historical event _that_ might be about 😝), and you _might_ notice something familiar towards the end... 😇

Great comments. Symphonic metal tends to be epic and theatric by its nature - as well as the obvious orchestral layers, the songs tend to be very much narrative driven which seems to make songs into productions. I think that part of what makes Floor so great is that she doesn't just sing, but embodies the music in a way which is very uninhibited and very hard to look away from.

Hey Jules,it's a funny coincidense you asked about the hair.🤔 Floor cut her hair (1/3 went off) "short" and she was very honest about that and said that she got some "dead ends" and some thinner parts (if that make sence,i'm not a hairdresser😅) and i believe she said that she also got some hair "extensions". I think she still looks top notch with a little shorter hair and still goes for the "windmils",so, not much change there.😉🤘

Metal is universal,. You don´t have to have long hair or anything. Toll, small, bold or whatever, it´s in you heart and soul that makes you "metalhead" :) For example Phil Anselmo, Rob Halford etc...
This song, one of Nightwish's finest in my eyes, is about a songwriter (Tuomas) suffering from writer's block. If you read the lyrics knowing this, it all makes perfect sense.

Long hair is not a requirement, but somehow it feels it gives some plausibility 😊 With that said, Floor cut her hair short this year, but it didn't affect her plausibility. And, I think you should try to sing with a metal band. Maybe just a one project or so, but I think it could be a great experience. But where to find a musicians that are capable to produce something even remotely close to Nightwish? Elizabeth from "Charismatic Voice" channel just did a "nightwish" song with Nik Noctural. You should check that out, it was great fun.
Then I have a suggestions. #1 You should definitely use headphones while doing these reactions. It makes a world difference for you and us. #2 I don't think flipping a video will help with copyright issues. #3 Only way to monetize these reaction videos is, that you get Patreons or use service like "Buy Me a Coffee".

A great reaction to one of my favorites. Heh, who am I kidding, they're all my favorites. Anyway, nice job MC's just maybe one thing though, get a good set of headphones or earbuds. The music sounds better and viewers don't get the echo from the mic. Also while the perspective is interesting your video is mirrored so we see Tuomas on the right instead of the left.

Big Nightwish fan here. If your looking for some other metal bands to check out I would recommend TOOL the song 46 and 2 or the song the pot. Also SYSTEM OF A DOWN the song Toxicity. Then there is the all time greats LED ZEPPELIN the song stairway to heaven. Hope you enjoy these.
There are a lot of short-haired or even shaven-headed people in metal bands, usually the drummer (which I always thought made sense, because it almost seems like an athletic choice: "To keep my hair from getting in the way") or the lead vocalist, (where it seems like more of a stylistic choice.) I'm sure there are bands where that's predominant, but it seems like it's usually just one or two people, and everybody else goes for the traditional longhair look...Sometimes, guys make a mid-career switch, but that's usually out of necessity...
Long hair isn't always required. It's sometimes a band's asthetic, some times it's personal. See the lead singers of Blind Guardian, Sabaton, Mutoid Man, or Karnivool for guys rocking short hair.
You need to check out Epica - design your universe live retrospect... They are like nightwish but even better, and play with a full orchestra 😉

It's not a requirement to have long hair. Hansi Kürsch from "Blind Guardian" has regular hair, in fact if you meet him on the street you would guess he's a librarian of something similar. His band is more Power Metal though.
9-44 Having long hair for a woman in the field of hard music is not a condition, for example Gail Ann Dorsey with her haircut also managed it (guitarist and backing vocals for David Bowie or Lenny Kravitz), or the singer Skin from Skunk Anansie 😊
Given the titel you wrote on this clip I'd rsuggest you also see some more recent stuff, like Dead boy's poem and Getsemane, both from Buenos Aires some 5years ago. But of course, the list is endless....

Regarding the hair length. A very old video with Tarja ruclips.net/video/DmDim1vXeEg/видео.html . No Marko in the band yet. And I have read that it was Marko who criticised the length of thair hair and suggested that they should move about the stage.
We also love Nightwish, especially because their appearance, mimicry, pyrotechnics, light color, music and lyrics form one whole, while they are not tempted to do so in a simple, straightforward pop music style, but really tell their story. That makes every next song completely different from the previous one.

I really like your reactions, but...............please, PLEASE, don't release videos that are mirrored. Hard to watch the band play reversed guitars, high keyboard riffs on the lower 88's, and Jukka's drum kit totally flipped. I have never seen a NW video blocked, so don't worry about that!!

The atmosphere in the band was completely different 10 months before. The band was dead because they had estranged with their singer on the current tour and didn't have a singer anymore. Floor saved the band back then. Here she had already agreed to be the new singer in the band.
Metal comes from wanting to play the heaviest, wildest hard rock. You want to be a rebel and the long hair suits that. Metal is established today. Long hair is a tradition, but not a must.
The song has two meanings: First, it is a homage to the American poet Walt Whitman and his Song of Myself. On the other hand, it is part of the album/film music Imaginaerum. The main character is dying trying to write down to his daughter what he never told her. But he's too ill to finish it. A collection of quotes follows in the studio version. Unfortunately they only played this song on the Imaginaerum Tour.
It is uncertain when the next tour will take place. There will be no tour for the next album because the band wants a break. Floor will be touring with her solo program. Maybe she'll come to America with it.

So long hair is what many have but there are exceptions. I personally started out on guns nroses metallica and bon jovi then discovered manowar and helloween. And many others. Halloween made it into my top favorites because they are crazy funny and very melodic though ridiculously fast at times. Intense guitar solos even harmony solos and today with all former singers on board crazy good voices. They were genre defining in the 80s. Something different alluding to classical music a lot would be hapsody. Crazy guitar neoclassical style great voice and orchestra sounds interwoven..... That mifht be sth Special for you as an opta singer.
