I've been watching the full episodes with English subtitles and was even more amazed by her selection of songs and interpretation for each of the singers receiving the performances.

Beste Zangers is a show where a group of singers from diverse genres sing for each other.Each week one of them is the guest and the other singers choose a song that the guest wrote and performed or a song that holds a particular meaning for the guest and then perform it for that weeks guest of honour adding their own twist and interpretation to it.The next week it moves on to the next singer and continues each week until all the guests have been sung to by the others,all Floor’s performances are excellent and range from German opera through country,rock and onto Spanish.This show introduced her to a Dutch audience and launched her solo career outside her NightWish work.
Well, she had a Dutch audience already, long before Nightwish even, but it was a relatively small audience. Before this she was only known in the metal scene.
@@jbird4478 Yeah,she was an unknown to anyone who wasn’t a metal fan….and metal is pretty much ignored in the Netherlands and that’s reflected in airplay and public awareness.
It's such a shame, considering how many world class metal musicians they have!
@@JariJuslinyou are right, I was watching a video of the world best female metal singers in the past 20 years. I know those are very arbitrary. Still there were 3 from our little country in the top 10, and a 4th in the next ten. Floor, Simone ( Epica) and Sharon ( within Temptation) and Anneke van Giersbergen as a runner up. Floor has been no 1 for quite a while now.
One of the best covers ever,surpasses the original by a mile, still we must be grateful Lady Gaga created the song, without her there wouldn't be this jewel.
Floor singing Phantom of the Opera absolutely mind-blowing
As someone who knows nothing about vocal technique, the thing that always grabs me about Floor's voice is the warmth. Even knownothings like me can feel the involvement with the song she has in her voice. I will confess, however, that I hope that you continue exploring Nightwish as a whole. They are, every one, consumate musicians.
Agreed! It would be lovely to see a reaction to one of the songs where Floor duets with Marko - Song of Myself for example.
What I love about this performance is just how many different vocal techniques and textures Floor incorporates, and you never really notice because it is so subtly done that it feels 100% raw and natural. It’s like every note is sung with a slightly different tone or timbre or overlay that somehow manages to blend seamlessly into the next, and it makes this performance so expressive and emotional.

Nice Reaction! What gets me about Floor's voice is how she can sing so softly and still have that distinct vibrato in her voice. Others have described this show, singing to each other, but the last night is when they do duets. She paired up with one of her idols from when she was young and he used to play the Phantom in the Phantom of the Opera and Floor saw him on TV when she was young sing the popular song from that musical and they sing it together and it is amazing.
None of the other singers knew who she was except Tim Akkerman (the guy with the curly hair). Floor sang the first song of the series for Henk Poort. She sang an aria that Henk's Mother used to sing for him called "Vilja lied". She sang it in German and blew everyone away. Check it out.

The Beste Zangers show is a Dutch TV show that features 7 singers. It is not a competition. One of the singers is in the hot seat every weekly episode. Singers come to an isolated location, without husband/wife, children or manager. They must come alone. The idea is that in the 10 days the group singers is together, they are more or less forced to bond with each other. Singers sing songs to the singer in the hot seat that that singer sings him/herself, or covers, or a song that is important to that singer in the hot seat. In between they talk about their lives, traumas, happy moments and sometimes this gets very emotional. During the 10 days there is room for practice with the band. But also in the months before the show people do practice sessions sometimes.
Floor did a series of similar shows in Germany in 2022, also worth a listen

There is no audio or video recording that can adequately portray just how powerful and beautiful Floor's voice is, trust me I've seen her live with Nightwish, I'd watched so many videos by that point but walking out of the arena that night i was just in utter shock at just how good she was live in person.
Yep, the Beste Zangers TV-show format has been broadcast over the years under various names in a number of European countries and also outside Europe. There is no competition between the seven singers. Just talking about their lives and careers, singing and having fun with each other. That's why this music program has been so hugely popular in different countries.

Great reaction and insight. What I love about this performance is how Floor took it from being an angry, defiant anthem to a delicate, vulnerable, emotional, almost pleading song. Floor's ability to convey emotion is just stunning. Fun fact, Floor was relatively unknown in her home country before this show. Metal music is not popular in the Netherlands and very much a niche genre, which is kind of funny given how many great Dutch Metal bands there are (Epica, Delain, Blackbriar, Within Temptation, Ayreon, etc.) . Even most of the other singers on the show had no idea how talented Floor was. Watch the very first show where Henk Poort (famous Dutch musical theater star) is the focus and Floor performs the first song of the show, Vilja Lied, for him. I know nothing about singing, so I really love you explaining what Floor is doing. You had some great demonstrations too. And, you found good places to stop and explain rather than interrupting way too much like some people do. Thank you very much. Oh, one other thing: When you demoed a few of Floor's techniques, you sounded just like her. That is meant as a complement.

Floor's vocals go way beyond Nightwish. In fact, most of her best performances are from the time before NW. But they aren't well documented, and nobody cares.

Wonderful singer, amazing song, beautiful host and fantastic reaction!. One thing though...out right side eyelash was fcked up and at certain angles and it looked like your right eye was shut down....but who really cares :)

Basically the "Best Singers" (title translated) are invited to perform for and with the others invited. Floor has admired Henk Poort since she was a kid. To have him on the same episode was a real treat for her. Their performance of "The Phantom of the Opera" was the Nightwish arrangement by Tuomas (Keyboards, writer, composer for Nightwish) was even more special as Henk performed as the Phantom on stage in the Netherlands for years. You can search for Episode 1 and the others if you wish. Episode 1 focuses on Henk. Floor also has a short interview with Henk on her RUclips channel

Floor's choice on this song was to "keep it small." She explained that since the song had been covered so many times (including by Emma) she wanted to take an opposite approach.

Dutch does not have a "th" sound as it does in English. Words such as "the, there, that, something", etc, have to be practiced by Dutch people as Dutch does not have a sound where you place your tongue between your teeTH. When Dutch people speak English words wiTH a "th" it may come off as sounding like a "d". That's why Floor's pronunciation of "something" is not as clear as it could have been.😮
So, wat joe are saying is dat de Dutch piepol have deir native aksent wen spieking Eenglisj? No way! I thought they just mispronounced words intentionally!🤪

The problem with reactors building their channels: Should I watch Floor genuinely emoting ...or you with your clever cuts, makeup and closeups and actor emotions? Reaction channels are a business...gotta build them up, may make $$$. But then... The camera is close up on your face... Better be REAL or we'll not come back. What can you add from all the other singers who tell us all about larynxes, muscles, breath control? It's tough.
