I disagree I think he's alot more clever then what he seems, of course at times he's a bumbling idiot and isn't exactly book smart but he isn't dumb as bricks. In rdr2 his heist the he plans is the only one not to go sideways and makes the most money. The explosives was Arthur's fault but he makes fun of Bill for it. Bill: You always was a weak minded! John: Your the one who let Dutch drive you insane! Bill: Dutch wanted you dead! We all did! Me: Micah poisoned your mind with his lies to you, Dutch and Javier!!!
Dude RDR1 felt much more like a western game. It really gave those Lone Ranger/The Good, The Bad And The Ugly vibes and you really felt like you were in the wild west. Even though RDR2 is set in a year that was much more proper to the western style ( I doubt that in 1911, year of RDR1, there were much outlaws remaining) it doesn't give you that much of a vibe, in my opinion because of the landscapes and biomes of the map.
It's because rdr2 was much more focused on the gang's story and how it falls plus rdr1 map in rdr2 is locked so that's why the biomes don't feel like cowboy(ish). Once you finish the story you get to experience the same joy as rdr1 again.
RDR2 wasn't really meant to be a typical western, although once you finish the game you can go to back to New Austin and it really feels like a western when you're going around killing bandits or robbing people
Plus rdr2 is literally pushing the gang closer and closer to civilisation, the more we progress the more we see bigger towns, more laws, better places to live until we get straight to Saint Denis
@@AidanFarren-Hart I haven't played rdr1 in a while but I literally never got bored of the gameplay while in RDR2 I found myself bored a lot. The gameplay felt extremely repetitive despite the amazing story and characters.
I think that John still respected Bill despite his change and had hoped that there was still something good in him, which is why he gave the choice in Fort Mercer either to present himself or John forces him to. Later in Mexico shortly before Bill's death, John had recognized that Bill is no longer the man he got on well with and becomes what he feared, which is why John hoped to be able to redeem him with death. Maybe before he was killed, John had thought of his former comrades like Dutch, Bill, Javier and even Arthur, which is why he asked for forgiveness as he had no choice and hopes that his actions will be forgiven.
I doubt John cared for Bill at all at that point, I believe he lost all respect for him at Beaver Hallow after he sided with Dutch. Maybe at Fort Mercer he was willing to talk to him and had some ounce of respect for him, but I doubt it, by the time he shot him and found out what he and his gang did in New Austin. I truly think he was just willing to kill or capture him.
I think this whole respect thing applies to Javier more than Bill, he at least with Javier they were close before even calling each other “brother”. But same as Bill, I think John lost respect for him. But John does look like he wipes a tear from his eye when you kill him.
@@CJ-hx9du well think about it, Bill has expressed his loyalty to Dutch alot in RDR2. There are multiple times around the camp fire that he says whoever isn't loyal to Dutch needs to leave because they all need to stick by him no matter what. Bill has stated that Dutch saved his life, he sees Dutch as his second chance at life. He was down in the dumps and was on a path to certain self destruction and he saw Dutch as a beacon of hope, another reason to live. So him siding with Dutch through all of it isn't really that surprising and, in fact it would be somewhat detrimental to his character if he were to all of a sudden side with Arthur over Dutch given how Bill constantly talked about Dutch as his saving grace. However, the actor who portrayed Bill, Steve Palmer said that if Arthur or John or even Abigail went up to Bill and told him how much they care about him, how they consider him family and that they love him, Bill would've most definitely chose to side with Arthur because Bill was always lost trying to find assurance from others in the gang trying to see if they really care about him and Bill only got that feeling from Dutch therefore siding with him all the way until the end. Then by RDR1, Bill is older, thinner and much more sinister in his right because he feels absolutely abandoned and betrayed given how Dutch left him at the end. Javier as well, Javier felt completely abandoned by Dutch thus going back to Mexico to take his chances there and feeling like he no longer has a home in the west so he went back to a place that he considered his only home.
@@MrBlack252 Dutch was good to Arthur at one point and Arthur was highly loyal. But Dutch was getting more and more evil and selfish. He abandoned John. He abandoned Abigail. He killed that random lady in Guarma. Kept getting the gang in brutal gun fights. Kept listening to Micah who was evil. Didn't help Molly who we later found out was not the snitch.
“i doubt you’ll even remember me abraham, but it’s been an experience” is the most accurate thing to say to that man... so strange and so drunk. LMFAOOO
Damn lol the way he just shoots Bill is so quick and like nothing his life was taken away. Almost anti climatic but very realistic. Felt kinda sad and harsh, like watching a gore video
WELL I’M GOING AFTER HIM NEXT!! I’LL OUTLIVE ALL OF YOU!!!!!!! That line was so satisfying. Just shows how dedicated John was to get his family back from the agency and how far he’s willing to go just to get to Dutch.
Oh man... when i started Red dead redemption 2 i didn’t remember any of this game, bill seemed like such a good guy. Edit: nah don’t mind i mixed bill with pearson, phck bill
Bill wasn't that bad a guy honestly. He was simple and a drunk and occasionally aggressive but he had a good heart. When he was comfortable he was cool with the gang if awkward and he genuinely seemed like he loved them in his way (he leads the charge in trying to save Jack for example) Problem was he was the most dependent on the Dutch's philosophy and he clinged to Dutch the figure rather than his real family. Once that died he gave up and became a monster that nobody could argue needed to die. The sad part about Bill and Javier is that unlike Micha there was a point where maybe they could have been like John or Arthur and outgrew their dependency but they never could.
Rdr2 might be the "better" game, but it will never be "cooler" game - the music, the atmosphere, the dialogues, the dirty, gnarly, dark vibe... rdr1 is something else man, it is unmatched.
I like how people say it was hard to put down Bill in this scene…how? He was ALWAYS an insufferable aggressive loudmouth, Javier was at least a loyal companion before turning evil.
Mexico as cool as it was, seems where the crunch and cut content really started to show up. Bill has alot of lead up, and instead of this big fight between the two, as well as a hunt or somethin Alliende and Bill are together at the finale ties up the plot easily. Theres old screenshots where bill is at the chuparosa bar, along with a John Marston with more detail and darker hair than the released game. Hope we get that remaster
After playing rdr2 it feels more sad to kill those people..and the story itself sadder too..especially javier as he didn't betray anyone back then and i kinda feel bad for him
I just came back and played this game after years and realised how little screen time Bill and Javier have especially Bill seeing as he’s the main antagonist until his death.
I understand this came out before RDR2 was even a thought and they didnt know they'd give Bill a lot more to do, but this death still sucks. Even without RDR2, he was basically the main villain for half the game. Should have gotten a better death.
Matt Preston I always liked bill and when I heard he was the bad guy in RDR 1 I was expecting a bit more with his death it didn’t feel emotional like Dutch at least John couldn’t pull the trigger bc Dutch was like a father to him his whole life
Tyler Howell Dude read my comment again before you reply. I clearly stated That Abraham looks the way Dutch does in RDR2 when the gang is stranded on Guarma after the failed robbery in St Denis. Never said anything about Abraham being in Red Dead 2.
Now that you mention it: Abraham parallels Dutch in a lot of ways, as both are charismatic if narcissistic revolutionaries who prove themselves to be no better than the forces they were against. Plus, both had mistresses who loved them genuinely but they didn't love back and died for nothing(and coincidentally by being shot in the same area, their stomachs). John was aware of that and that's why despite the civility he treats Reyes, he is contemptuous of Reyes, especifically because he sees a lot of Dutch in the man.
no matter how much i love rdr2 there is no wild west atmosphere in it, just look at this video it feels like 60s spagetti western movies; the air, gun shots, buildings everything fits as it should and then there is rdr2 its like Gta 1900...
I grew up with RDR1 and theyre both my favorite games (RDR1 & 2) With that being said, I think RDR2 serves more as a period piece and character study than a western. Fuck, a lot of the game u spend in the East.
Were people not really confused when playing RDR1? Did it just tell you you're hunting people you used to know and leave the rest open to interpretation (until RDR2)?
That’s basically how it went and when I played it as a kid, I’d sometimes feel like I couldn’t follow the story completely. But replaying it years later (even before RDR2 had come out), I noticed that a lot of backstory is carried through dialogue. I do still wonder whether that’s just due to Rockstars writing style at the time, or if they went into the game with the plan of fleshing it out in a prequel later.
@@FalcoMoment i dont know what the other commenter was smoking because it was super easy to follow the story when i played this at 14. Throughout the game john consistently speaks about his old gang life with bill, javier, and dutch so you get a good grasp on your motivations and history of the character
@@ethanpatterson96thagoat15 I mean I wasn't saying it's hard to follow, I said I had trouble following it as a kid *because* it's carried through dialogue. Being rude even though we agree is a weird look lol
I understood it pretty easily since I understand the english language well and am capable of processing words and stories that John Marston constantly tells the people around him throughout the game.
I remember playing this for the first time. I spent too much time trying to decide which gun to use and where to shoot him, then that Mexican guy finished him off. Pretty unsatisfying
Considering I didn't know about Red dead Redeption 1 first until I played Red Dead Redemption 2. Killing these characters were really emotional, for all the adventures they went through and just wanted to start a new life in Tahiti. Bill here despite being known as dumb, he's the one who planned the ONLY SUCCESFUL bank heist of the gang, in Valentine.
I would try rdr soundtrack punta orgullo. Im not sure if its this one but surely the right one is in the recommendations. Edit: It sounds almost identically. I guess its this one.
I got an “Infinite Galaxy” ad before this vid. Some chick was on her knees next to a crying baby, and DAYUM was she cheekin. I wish it hadn’t ended so quickly.
Instead of making rdr3 they should remaster this one with dialogue of Arthur and the rdr2 graphics and physics that would be the best childhood present
Nah not really I highly doubt it would sell as much, now don’t get me wrong I love these two game however I wouldn’t spend another $60 just to hear Arthur be mentioned max like what 15 times An RDR3 that either follows Arthur joint the gang or a new story all together with new characters and all that would be better not just financially but also for the fans. Although it’s odd that Arthur isn’t mentioned at all it’s somewhat explained with the fact that John doesn’t like talking about them and given the fact that Arthur is dead the pinckertons wouldn’t even give a shit about him. As for Arthur being mentioned I could only see it in a like two scenes with Dutch this one with bill the next would be when he sees Javier and that’s a maybe. The only other case would be jack and Abigail given how close they were to him. So remastering RDR1 and changing entire scenes just to mention Arthur a bit wouldn’t sell much IMO especially given the backwards compatibility and the popularity of RDR2
If they make a ground-up remake of RDR, they'll need to rewrite and revoice a lot of this game. The writing of 2 was so much sharper and more impactful than how Javier and Bill and treated in this original game. I also wouldn't mind having the ability to capture Bill, but this is the dying west, after all.
@@Pelican07.23 yeah, two years removed from this comment I can tell you're absolutely right. It was a decent starting point for them in 2 compared to seeing just glimpses of them in the original game.
Really he seemed rough around the edges but cool to me. Led the charge trying to save Jack, tried to be nice to Kieran once he got to know him even though he was awkward, outgrew his initial racism with Lenny to really like and work well with the kid. He was awkward and an idiot sometimes but up until the gang fell apart he was one of the best characters imo.
Easiest way to do this mission: After he heads out on the carriage, instead of going through the back doors chasing him, go back through the front doors. Call your horse and ride around the back, the carriage will come down the trail, kill the driver and that's basically it.
When I first played this mission, I was bumped into during the part where I was supposed to shoot Bill, then I couldn't move anymore nor aim my weapon. The game's script broke itself and ruined the perfect moment I was waiting for.
You can really hear John's anger here. He might have put the past behind him to try and live normally, but he never forgot how Bill, Dutch, and Javier betrayed him. It's ironic that Bill calls John a traitor, but Bill was the one who chose Dutch over John; he betrayed his "brother" back then without a second thought. Now, years later, he gets the chance to roast Bill over the coals for it, and takes it.
They were close in RDR2, but in RDR1 we see a John that is very mad due to his family being taken. We also see a Bill, Javier and Dutch that have gone crazy over the last years. With everything that has happened it's only natural they were so angry at eachother.

Bill gave me the impression that he was basically a useful idiot. No brains but if he was told what to do he was capable. It's honestly amazing he made it as long as he did.
I really tried killing him so much in rdr 2
I disagree I think he's alot more clever then what he seems, of course at times he's a bumbling idiot and isn't exactly book smart but he isn't dumb as bricks.
In rdr2 his heist the he plans is the only one not to go sideways and makes the most money. The explosives was Arthur's fault but he makes fun of Bill for it. Bill realised early we needed to stop fucking with Cornwall and that the gang under appreciated him. He's definitely useful and alot more clever then he seems

John: Your the one who let Dutch drive you insane!
Bill: Dutch wanted you dead! We all did!

Micah while burning in hell: oh shit he’s right.

Cedric Little Crow I shot him in his kneecaps a thousand times though...
RDR2 wasn't really meant to be a typical western, although once you finish the game you can go to back to New Austin and it really feels like a western when you're going around killing bandits or robbing people
Thats good though. Both rdr1 and rdr2 offer different experiences, one doesnt substitute the other making them both valid and different western games
the best description i’ve seen is that RDR was more of a western game and RDR 2 was more of a country game
Plus rdr2 is literally pushing the gang closer and closer to civilisation, the more we progress the more we see bigger towns, more laws, better places to live until we get straight to Saint Denis

True
" If you win power remember why you wanted it"
wise Marston
After playing RDR2, killing Bill has more weight to it and means Alot more. It also feels a little crappy.
Like putting down a once loyal dog who got rabies and turned feral. It's just miserable even if it's the right thing to do.
Bill deserved it for not siding with Arthur at the final stand off at Beaver Hollow. Same with Dutch and Javier.
@@danielyoung6778 this is actually a very good comparison and analogy. Well done
I remember John and Bill's drunk conversation at camp in RDR2, they talked to each other like brothers 😪
Leave Pearson out of this 💀🤣🤣
Lmao

OpTic ViLLiAn my fault lol
Tyler Howell I forgive you
Now that you mention it: Abraham parallels Dutch in a lot of ways, as both are charismatic if narcissistic revolutionaries who prove themselves to be no better than the forces they were against.
I’ve always liked it how technically speaking, John doesn’t necessarily end up killing Bill.
I feel like they could have had more of a falling out in RDR2 same with Javier.
no matter how much i love rdr2 there is no wild west atmosphere in it, just look at this video it feels like 60s spagetti western movies; the air, gun shots, buildings everything fits as it should and then there is rdr2 its like Gta 1900...
I grew up with RDR1 and theyre both my favorite games (RDR1 & 2)
With that being said, I think RDR2 serves more as a period piece and character study than a western.

Nah not really I highly doubt it would sell as much, now don’t get me wrong I love these two game however I wouldn’t spend another $60 just to hear Arthur be mentioned max like what 15 times
An RDR3 that either follows Arthur joint the gang or a new story all together with new characters and all that would be better not just financially but also for the fans.
So remastering RDR1 and changing entire scenes just to mention Arthur a bit wouldn’t sell much IMO especially given the backwards compatibility and the popularity of RDR2
dam I'm gonna have to pullout the old PS3 and play me some RDR
If they make a ground-up remake of RDR, they'll need to rewrite and revoice a lot of this game.

I consider rdr1 a masterpiece

My memory of this game looks like RDR2.. that’s not the case.
They really need to remaster this game with new dialogue. This feels so unrealistic considering how close they were in rd2.
They were close in RDR2, but in RDR1 we see a John that is very mad due to his family being taken. We also see a Bill, Javier and Dutch that have gone crazy over the last years. With everything that has happened it's only natural they were so angry at eachother.
This game deserves a remake.
Would be an opportunity to tie up some things regarding RDR2. Could turn into an even deeper Story.
I feel like before Arthur died all the strength of the characters that went against him lost their strength with him
