A couple of caveats (not affiliated with the program at all. Just an alum who still follows them): 1. I believe we are speaking on U18 boys when talking about the national title count of 10. The school as a whole has FAR more than 10 with girls, u14/15/16 etc. probably more than 30 but I do t know the actual count. 2. A lot of mention of the prep team. Some of the best players to come through shattuck never play prep. They put multiple kids on NTDP every year from the 15/16 team. Last years NTDP18s had six players who once played at shattuck (not including celibrini for that group). Only 1 played prep (cole eiserman). The rest left after their 15 season. 3. The school always gets a lot of notoriety for the big names but imo the biggest strength of the team in terms of development is the kids from small problems who end up there and then develop into d1 players. 4. Another bragging point I guess you could say is they develop from within once you’re there for the most part. There was mention of 1 year players. Last years prep team, who beat the central mass penguins (Cushing minus 1 over ager) 10-4 at nationals, had zero kids who didn’t where the SSM jersey the year prior. I can guarantee it another prep school can say that for their top team. They all recruit year to year for their top team. Great video!!
@@ahadvising8 do you know if they play or scrimmage any of the MN High School teams? I know they are not allowed in the league due to their active recruiting. I believe they were asked to leave or chose to leave in the late 80s/early 90s but I'd be curious how they stack up against the top AA schools and teams in the state.
@@cglasford1 so yes and no. I graduated 2002. Back then and for years after we’d play benilde, holy angels, etc. they haven’t done that for awhile. But now the entire fall portion of their season is against teams from the upper Midwest elite league. This is an invite only league of the best mn hs players not already in juniors. They have won this league several times including the last couple years. This year they’re like 12-2 in the league. Now I have to be honest. While these mn elite league teams are stacked, they’re ad hoc all star teams. Shattuck is a team practicing everyday running systems. So it’s kind of tough to compare. On paper shattuck began this 24-25 season with 11 current d1 commits. Comparably there’s no mn hs team close to that…doesn’t really mean anything
@@charleswyckoff700 for sure that makes sense. I know that Minnetonka had 9 or 10 D1 recruits last year but typically its like 1-4 tops per team, if that. The HP Elite league is an awesome opportunity for MN players to take that next step. At the end of the day I would hope SSM would win or be one of the top teams every season just because of their ability to attract or recruit top players from around the country. The HP teams still are restricted to their home districts to my understanding, so it's kind of limited. Plus like you said they get selected in the spring and have minimal practice time together. The concept of SSM is pretty awesome but for most people unattainable simply based on the cost. One year cost more than my entire college degree haha.
@@cglasford1 I agree with all. Tonka vs SSM last year is a tilt I would’ve loved to see. Both very deep. And you know to the kids it’s probably SSM vs mn but I know the shattuck program as a whole respects the hell out of mn hockey. Before Crosby, toews, etc; the tradition was largely built on the backs of mn kids and that continues today. Every year I look at the incoming bantam roster bc that’s where they first get their influx of kids and every year there is a good number of kids who once played for the blades. Back in my bantam year half our team was the 84 blades easily to include parise, pat eaves, etc. So shattuck very much respects and embodies the mn hockey tradition.
yeah I was thinking that. As a goalie myself, a lot times you are better off being on a slightly lesser team so that you are getting the reps, shots and looks.
I’m not criticizing their success in the US but they come up to Canada and play in tournaments with overage players they would be average elite team if they played against the same age groups
I accidentally clicked on this video, and I don’t even play hockey I’m just a fan. But I thought it was informative
thank you

You are absolutely right....we could have made a 45 minute video about them.

Nathan MacKinnon... Regarding goalies, I think it's normal not many have moved on. A super elite goalie doesnt want 12 shots a game.
yeah I was thinking that. As a goalie myself, a lot times you are better off being on a slightly lesser team so that you are getting the reps, shots and looks.
yes absolutely
As a goalie, you want to be the one facing SSM - ideally stealing games from them
@@HelloMattMatthe kid in my avatar will be trying to do exactly that at BK. 😅

Their u15 just beat the #1 team in Canada you dimwit
Is it actually pronounced Shattuck as in "tuck", I've heard people pronounce the last part as "toque"
If that your Mercyhurst Sweater back there?
yes
Hear from legendary Shattuck Hockey Coach Gordie Stafford

Nathan MacKinnon attended 2 years, no? isn't he like the #1 in points right now, isn't he like the guy to be? isn't he the Kobe of of the NHL?
The two sports and athletes cannot be compared, however Mackinnon is very good yes.
avon old farms is much better. you obviously dont know who they are.
I go to Avon and I can tell you that Shattuck would probably be the one program in the US that people even at AOF would say is better than us.
