Cornell as a school is no better than a really good state school. It's actually not particularly well thought of for a school that claims to be prestigious. It's vet school is great--the Best in the East (whereas UC Davis is the Best in the West). Colgate sucks. Hamilton, NY really sucks. It's in the middle of nowhere, in completely trashed Upstate NY. There's nothing there. It is abundantly clear that you have not done your Due Diligence. If I was a parent, I would not trust ANY of the advise you give

You're a fool to think you can play D1 Hockey and major in engineering... Northeastern is extreme left and has a bad record when it comes to protecting students right to free expression. If you are politically center left or to the right, Northeastern is a horrible choice.

"6 ft off the ice" is 2 ft over the net. Just a "video-typo" I'm sure. But this is so true! Keeping it low is much harder to track and make the save. 12-18 inches off the ice is where the money is! Love your channel! Lots of great information!

Not mentioned is junior gold. a league for kids of high school age who did not make varsity or junior varsity but can still play for their school in what is still a pretty talented league, and is still apart of usa hockey and not mnhshl. They also have their own state tournament, every level does down to squirts iirc. its split into two tiers, junior gold a and b, and back in the day (90s-early 00s) it used to be a pretty rough and tumble league mostly fully of kids talented enough for varsity but didn’t make the team or were kicked off for being trouble makers. I’ve been told fights were not uncommon back then. A bit more relaxed now adays although I saw my older brother get in at least two proper drop the helmet and gloves fights during his 2 year career in junior gold circa 2016-17ish so it still happens. Obviously being still youth hockey under usa hockey there’s a game or two suspension per fight but never deterred my brother for sticking up for his teammates.

this is what id do) It is impossible to consider the Maus and not be impressed by the machine as a feat of engineering. At 188 tonnes, it is the heaviest operational tank ever made by any nation at any time in any war and was made despite the shortages of raw materials, industrial capacity, and manpower at the time in Nazi Germany. Yet, despite the impressive achievement of making this rolling behemoth, the vehicle stands as a testimony to the total waste taking place in the German industry and the inefficiencies inherent in the way in which tank development was carried out. By the time the Maus was finished in 1945, it was a boondoggle. No amount of awe at the size, weight, firepower, or armor on this beast could disguise the incredible waste of resources it accounted for, nor could it make any difference to the outcome of the war. The Maus, as a weapon, was simply useless, yet the lessons learned from its development did find use in other programs and the very existence of such an enormous machine has inevitably drawn a significant amount of attention. Drawing both awe and fascination in equal measure, the Maus is a complex tank with a lengthy development.

Strange that there are more AHL advancements than ECHL. I would have figured it would be many more to the ECHL since it is essentially a potential feeder to the AHL.

I would include USHL as a "Major Junior" league. I'd say tier 1 in USA is Major Junior (originally called Jr A tier 1) in Canada. USA tier 2 (NAHL & NCDC) would be Jr A tier 2 (all Jr A leagues) in Canada. USA tier 3 is like Jr B in Canada.

I think it would have been better to weight the advancements and draft picks by number of teams in each league. Don’t think it would have been significantly different, but still a lot closer. The Q having 4 fewer teams makes a difference in the number of eligible players.

It is comparing apples to oranges. If you pass those same numbers through the metric based on population base, and # of hockey players/registration in the areas that these leagues encompass, that would be a more realistic picture percentage-wise of which leagues proportionately meet these metrics. IT MIGHT SURPRISE YOU AS PROPORTIONATELY TO THE HOCKEY POPULATION BASE OF THESE SPECIFC AREAS WHICH TEAM ADVANCES MORE PLAYERS PROPORTIONATE TO HOW MANY PLAYERS THEY HAVE IN THEIR RESPECTIVE DISTRICTS.

As someone who had multiple kids play in the O and advance to pro it may come as a surprise to most that I think the USHL is now the top JR league in the world. If you go back to pre 2007 ALL the top players for the most part were going to the "w" or "O". Now it makes zero sense to give up the opportunity to play college hockey in the US. USPORT is a good route but if you have an opportunity to get an IVY or say UMichigan education after JR you don't screw that up. Most Canadian parents know that as well.

What do you think about .500ish KIJ teams like Leafs, Thunder Cats, or Rebels? A family member just finished playing HS Varsity in MN for a team in the "power" Lake Conference, although not the strongest team. He was their top "Offensive Dman" (.55 PPG), and their team anchor defensively, including all PKs and 3rd line 'goal mitigator' (80.4% team PK success as 2nd highest team in MN for team PIMs). His game has been excelling aggressively even since the season, especially offensively, mostly due to his many, consistent hours of hard work this last season and this current offseason and the last offseason. He's not quite ready for USHL, and certainly doesn't have the stock as a player, although he looked better than their lower rostered players. He's been very competitive vs. the NAHL Central and Midwest leagues, even looking better than many or most of their returning players, but I believe his size as a short Dman, and relatively new exposure have been a hinderance. That's been confirmed by unbiased evaluators as well. However, there's a couple MJHL teams very interested. He's also had an offer from a .500ish KIJHL team to walk on as a top player and develop for a season, but it's difficult to weigh between playing MJHL and risking him being jammed beyond 3rd line or full rotation, vs. playing in a league like the KIJHL, which just isn't as strong. What are your thoughts?

I am a Tufts University affiliate. I can tell you this: all of the NESCAC schools are academically tough--and they're all great schools. Yes, these schools do have some large courses, taught in lecture halls, with way more than 100 students. Beyond the hand full of large, lecture courses, the classes are small. You are expected to get to know your professors at a NESCAC school. If you ditch class, your professor might come looking for you (happened to me). If you know you're not going to show-up for class or have to leave early, let the professor know. Because hockey is a time intensive sport, you will have to practice very good time management. Prepare for class. Study. Get as much of your classwork done as soon as you can. You can not afford to fall behind in your studies--you probably do not have the time to catch-up. Part-time work is out. You'll be able to participate in Greek Life, but your brothers need to respect that your priorities are: first: school, second: hockey, third: Greek life / social life. Engineering or hard science major is out, because there is no such thing as three hour labs--it's about five, six or more hours. You'll get a lot of support from your teammates and your coaches--there are a lot of people who are more than willing to support you, who are rooting for you. A NESCAC school is for you if you want a world class education and great hockey. Here is a nasty story from Harvard... which will show you that there is a stark difference between NESCAC schools and Ivy League. I was in the Cafe Nero, sitting by graduate students holding a grading party. I was amazed at how poorly written the exam papers were. The graduate student told me that most of the students were going to get an A. The Captain of the L_____ Team decided that he didn't want to take the final, for he had a match two days prior to the exam. He submitted a doctor's note from Health Services, excusing someone else (not the Captain) from exams that day. I said, "What's going to happen? If this happened in my school, that student would find himself before the J-Board quick, quick." One of the graduate students said, "Oh, nothing's going to happen. He won't get an Incomplete. He won't get punished. He's protected because he's one of the best L____ players in the country. Harvard cares more about its sports teams than it cares about academic integrity." If this happened at a NESCAC school, the student would definitely get expelled.

I walked away from hockey. I still had two years of Junior eligibility. Last season I played I made NAHL all star roster. Also had scholarship to D1 Minnesota State. Walked due to many concussions and other painful injuries. My last year I played some of my best hockey, but had to do a lot of self medicating. Just reached a point where I started to hate playing the game. Honestly the only thing I enjoyed at the end was injuring or trying to injure the opponent. Started playing with Hate, not fun...hung it up.

One of these days those chickenshits in Hermantown should voluntarilymove up to AA. Winning all those state titles against far smaller schools considering they're the largest school in the single-A classification. Grand Rapids doesn't wimp out and play down as Hermantown does and they are only slightly larger than Hermantown in population, as well as not being in a metro area (Duluth, MN/Superior, WI) of 130,000. Rapids does the Iron Range proud and wins state titles against the likes of Eden Prairie and Edina. Unlike Hermantown who plays much smaller--yet formidable--schools such as Coleraine.

I love the team sweaters and logos and how rowdy the games can get. 2 dollar beer nights really help save towards all the fan merch 😅. Cost seems to go up by the level of play as well. Like I played house league my whole life and never tried out for rep once. We had travelling teams and all of that but we couldn’t afford that even back then. And I was having fun playing, I knew I wasn’t that good so I didn’t see the point in my parents sinking thousands of dollars and time into it. House league is still expensive enough even with all of the gear. You factor in all of the costs of hockey vs. soccer which I also played my whole life and it’s night and day. Soccer is so much more accessible for so many families

This was going on long before you were born unfortunately. Did my time in minor hockey for decades. It was a constant battle to let the kids just have fun while playing the best sport in the world. I did not let the parents in the dressing room, that belonged to the squad. The inner sanctum of the dressing room is a major part of any team sport. Money creates all the problems, something not exclusive to hockey. The game has changed tremendously since my first time on the ice. Parents need to let their kids have fun while following their passion. If the work ethic is not there, then move on.

Oakland University in Oakland, Michigan is definite perfect location because the Detroit metro doesn’t have a D1 program closest is University of Michigan about 1 hour drive. There were talks back in 2017 to put the program at the Palace of Auburn Hills when the Pistons left but the owner said no to the idea which was a big mistake plus the arena was in great shape at the time. The school attempted to get an on campus arena built but didn’t get enough votes. It would’ve been a perfect situation. Also it wouldn’t be a bad idea to resurrect Wayne State University D1 program with a perfect location on campus arena. Wayne State failed the first time because they didn’t have a suitable arena had to play at various places around the Detroit area. It would be nice to have some options in the great of Michigan. Since Adrian has the potential to go D1 there has to be a potential new D3 program in Michigan to fill in the void.

Those D3 teams only commit like 20 year olds so you have to play 1-2 years after high school juniors for example. Doesn’t matter what high school you play at that much many private and public school kids get same looks after high school. Only kids who are going D1 commit in high school.
