    There is a mass exodus - mid season back to CHL! VERY CONCERNING! 1ST CHOICE NOW WILL BE CHL EVEN IF NCAA BOUND! So it is bound to decrease the talent level slightly in the BCHL!

      @@shrekfmurdoch6489 I believe its 12 or 13 at the moment so with approx. 525 players in the league its about 2%. I don't think you can categorize 2% as mass exodus. Plus many of these roster spots have been filled with some great ex-whl players.

    I think most teams offer walk-on tryouts. Even FBS FB offers that.

    Can support AAA hockey player, the travel expenses $50000/per. Since u10. I believe the university fee just a piece of cake. Most people can not earn the down payments (20 % )for house after graduation. The social class level is total not in the payroll scale. ;) to be real, money is not real.

    Major juniors not not better development model. You play more than practice. Is just better at weeding out talent. That why many stuck to Junior A then go D1. So I don’t see kids opt to go CHL anymore than already have. Better bloom late than burnout early.

      @ in the beginning sure but I see it tapering off. Youths will realize they do not have til 20 to make something of themselves. Their development can take longer thanks to D1. I see Major Junior slipping as it will no longer be dawg.

    Would a D1 school rather take a player who’s produced over a point per game but has grades like C+ or a player who has half the amount of points but has straight A’s?

    QJHL is a very offensive league so it’s easier to put up lots of points in that league compared to other junior A leagues. Still impressive though

      Some will go directly pro from CHL, others won’t have a choice but to go the collegiate to give themselves a better chance at making the pro. It’s a great option to turn too after Major Junior.

    I don’t know if people realize that the NCAA D1 only has so many “free rides” or large packages to offer… The tuition at a majority of theses schools would be $60-$90, 000 and the CHL players with there education packages once they are completed there Junior year is maybe 3/4 of that… and is paid in Canadian $$

      They recently changed the rules to allow the same amount of scholarships as players. Going up to 26 scholarships from 18 and teams have a maximum roster limit of 26.

    Also the NCAA allows schools that are D2 for all their other sports like football, baseball etc. to have a hockey team that's D1 like Minnesota Duluth or Michigan Tech

    So I know it’s not common. I never really played more the house a club league. I am European so i learned to skate a pro level camps when I was little. I have an offer to play D1 hockey as a walk on. Like I said I know it’s not often but I guess it happens. I never got the chance to play juniors. I always wanted to play college. So I’ll probably take the offer but we’ll see. I want to make money one day playing hockey but if I can’t I want a degree to be a engineer

    Garbage. The "top-of-the-top" don't need any more help. The 1500 or so kids in the major juniors are already playing in the most exposed/scouted leagues possible. And they are already given college scholarships for CANADIAN schools after hockey. All this is doing is making the entire Jr landscape in North America adjust for the benefit of some Canadian kids (and an extreme minority of Americans in the league) who already have been given maximal opportunity.

    FB and BBall players have NIL now so hypocritical not allow CHL cuz stipend. NCAA is no longer pure ammy once you allow NIL.

      Ya NIL was a huge factor. Northwestern football players sued the NCAA over lack of compensation and attempted tostart a players union in 2016. That started the trickle down effect, which led to the creation of the NIL. All Sports were effected. Ridiculous how Simone Biles lost her eligibility because she did a Tide Pods commercial after the 2016 Rio Olympics. Penny Oleksiak would have lost her eligibility if she accepted any of the gifts (one being for Drake) for her olympic performance

    Its almost impossible to tell honestly. The ncaa model is dependent on juniors where kids play until 21. Where as major juniors depend on bantam and AAA players and develop them within their model.

    The USHL and Canadian USports will be hit the hardest by this change imo. But it’s still the right decision

    I think the BCHL, USHL, and NAHL will still commit a lot of players to D1 since there are more Spots for D1 than there is CHL players, so there will still be space for those non CHL players to play. But any Jr A leagues lower will have little to none.

    Were you allowed to play Div III after playing major juniors before? One of my former teammates played 2 years in the O and then played Div III. Did the previous rule only apply to Div I?

      I don't think so. Participation number in Canada have been declining and they are growing in the US. There might be some turbulence over the next 5-10 years but US hockey is not going anywhere.

    didn't they just change the rules? increased the scholarships from 18 to 26 and reduced the rosters from 30 to 26? so shouldn't all of them get full rides now?

      Some are still partial, and most are extremely picky and selective on who they offer a scholarship too and they do not have to give the full amounts.

      @@ahadvising8 i mean the way I see it is the ncaa has a basically becoming the lowest level of minor pro hockey now.teams are going to have to pay up to get the top players as the competition increases. Also I’m curious if we will ever see a resurgence of D2 or a growth in D1 because of this
