Unlike most cars from the era, early 2000s Astons aged like wine.
Thanks to Henrik Fisker for the DB9/DBS and Vantage
@@Mich_-mu7fz Wait, Fisker?
As in the Fisker Karma?
Also, what about the Vanquish?
@@twotailedavenger Yes that Fisker. As for the Vanquish Ian Callum designed the 1st generation while the 2nd generation was a creation by Marek Reichman.
@@Mich_-mu7fz Henrik Fisker is a design genius in my eyes
The E46 M3 has aged quite well.
I can't believe this was filmed 17 years ago, and the DB9 was designed 20 years ago. It still looks fresh.
yh, not bad now. Especially the prices
@@ibnbhai still gonna cost you a few grand a year to run it.
And the British Rail MK1 carriages looked dated although it looks as if they were refurbished to feel like a modern(ish) mark 2 something you don’t need to worry about with the stunning and timeless Aston!
Yes it really is a beautiful and timeless design
@@ibnbhai yeah I went for a ride in a Aston Martin DB9
"Public transportation will never be a match for a car."
Then the cross-London race happened...
But all these races are over a long stretch of distance with less tight and slowed down traffic in not surprised the car is useless around London
One of these days somebody is going to invent a device or program that conveys sarcasm over the internet. But that's probably never going to happen.
Michael Scott It will. Trust me.
+Michael Scott it already exists, put /s at the end of the sarcastic sentence.
And then the race with the Shelby GT500 happened :(

+Crusher Rusher no i think jeremy's POWERR is way better
FIVE POUND SIXTY?!?
That is my favorite.
It'd probably be £8-something nowadays.
Only that?
I'd probably expect to pay a tenner.
Richard porter - script editor of top gear - said that in his book, of all the races, this was the one with the biggest gap in the winner. Clarkson was said to be there with enough time to have multiple drinks, and that’s why his final closing words of the section on TV were slightly slurred 😂😂
what about the Oslo race?
@@t.3465never finished
@@fabiank485 didn't Hammond & May make it to the finish line (albeit hours after Clarkson had already flown back home)?
Was it slurred, though?

"WHY ARE YOU CLUTTERING UP OUR ROADS WITH LATVIAN MILK????"
I'm reasonably certain that those words have never been uttered before or since on television.
that line is probably the reason i never saw this episode on tv :DD
Just curious as to why... are you Latvian?
connfyoozed yep.
I go to the gym on that road that was cluttered up with lorries full of Latvian milk
Josh Conn Oh certainly!

James is so classy. He's the type of guy to duel with.
except that you’d be laughing hysterically before you began
I can imagine it now....
JAMES: "Sir you have insulted my honour...I challenge you to a duel."
OPPONENT: "Sir for this I apologise and accept your proposal...Shall we say pistols at dawn?"
JAMES: "Yes, pistols at dawn is most acceptable....Shall we discuss this over a drink?"
OPPONENT: "I have a charming bottle of 1964 Le' poitier sheriffeè in my collection."
JAMES: "Ah, splendid. This shall be a fine duel indeed my man."

“It was in Monaco, when I realised I'd lost the race against the Aston.”
FIVE POUND SIXTY?!
And now it costs that for a 15 minute bus journey rip
@@__-fm5qv no it doesnt lol

Still one of the most beautiful cars in the world.
DBS????
It might look nice, but the build quality is crap. On ours, the roof liner is sagging, the door panels keep coming unglued, the leather is shrinking and pulling up, the front and rear dash are plastic underneath so they're warping... it goes on
B Gard how many miles has “yours” done? And what colour is it? And what colour is the interior?
2005 with 26,000 miles.. Gray interior with wood grain dash and accents. Similar color to the one in this video.
B Gard mhmmmmmm
I love that old top gear doesn’t feel like three presenters. If feels like three friends trying to win a stupid bet
Every version of the DB line after (and including this DB9) have been absolutely drop dead gorgeous.
Except the current DB11.
@@bicyclist2 nah the DB11 looks good.
DB11 looks poo
The DB11 looks slightly disproportionate, but the new DB12 looks very promising.
Although it’s nearly 20 years old the DB9 is still my favourite Aston Martin & car
DB9 and DBS are the prettiest modern Astons today. Lost me when they took away that iconic grille
Never forget this episode main reason me and my late father were in it, there's a scene where Jezza is on the Motorway he flew past me in the fast lane , glad to be a part of this awesome show 😀 as I'm sure are the many other drivers who were there that day
How fast do you reckon?
What's the timestamp, and what car?
That is in fact something to brag about. Is your car visible in the episode?
@@tiresmoke7229 Look for a Vectra
Okay, that's straight-up awesome
This era was the very pinnacle of Top Gear. 2003-2009 was it's golden era. Before the self-parodying began.
celt67 Hmmm to think about it, I kind of agree now.
celt67 Good point. It was going to have to end soon anyway as it was becoming far too staged.
It has always been staged
celt67 agreed
Mateusz Wojtkiewicz I agree and this episode from series 4 has some good quotes like at 1:16 to 1:23 and at 2:55 to 3:20 where captain slow says I think he's been nicked by the rozzers since Jeremy has the Gendarme next to his DB9 and if this were done by Jodie Kidd, Philip Glenister, & Guy Martin (Hammond, Clarkson & May' replacement team) for a race from Dunsfold to Barcelona kidd would have used the Aston Martin DB10 while Glenister & Martin would have done public transportation just like Hammond & May in their race against Jeremy from series 4 to 22
Im still living in 2008 clearly, for some reason I still see the DB9 as a new car
Jac Gordon (2004)

Me too, it still holds up today
Love these Top Gear races. There's something about the fact they're travelling that's so oddly satisfying. Epic :)
For me a bit depressing as, while I love travel, they live somewhere that I love to go to but costs me thousands just to get there.
The DB9 sure does look pretty
Your point?
+Sypadizre can u read?
It's an Aston Martin, they're all pretty...
@@jaycourt3903 Not the latest ones. They are ghastly. Especially that Valkyrie. But before that, they were all jaw-droppers indeed.

Lmao
6:02 "My ears aren't bleeding" (look at his ears)

Chris Chong creepy...
Every train vs car race ever started by Jeremy saying "the train is not faster, a train cannot beat a car". Race starts: no train vs car, but car vs train+walking+bus+switching. The ONLY time when Jeremy uses the train: Race starts at the actual train station and Hammond+James still have to walk to their vehicles.
Clarkson was way more famous than the other two and therefore, it made logical sense to cater to the tastes of the audience and let him win.
In the Grand Tour a Ford GT came up against public transport, a New York Subway, a Jetblue Embrear E195, and a bus.
I got to drive one at work, and just sitting on it gave me a love for Aston Martin That can never be taken away.
I'm from America, where Aston's are rarer than Smart Cars
even more rare is the Cygnet, which is both.
"Would you like a drink?" "Yes, I'd love to have you!". XD
12 years later I still wonder why Richard needed two huge rolling suitcases for a weekend in Monte Carlo.

I can't believe I watched this episode live when I was a very young boy. Time passes so fast and this Coronavirus situation has made every day to feel the same.
Yeah it can't just be me but corona has made everything go very quickly and very slowly. Because we haven't done anything, its been the same shit every day during lockdown, but at the same time thats sort of made the days slow as well. Its weird.
@@idreeskhan8885 agreed. I feel the same way. When I think of things that happened in 2019, which wasnt that long ago tbf it seemed like it was ages ago

It's a pity that the bit with that wonderful double-clutch downshift has been cut out. Over a decade has passed and that sound is still etched in my mind. It's so gorgeous!

My god, Aston Martin make the most timeless and beautiful cars in the world. The DB9 will still look good in 50 years. Masterful design
Anyone else find this the best top gear race of the lot it just feels less scripted than the others and more pure and that Aston is a beauty.
wow, that is a long earthworm
+ravindra nabiel - That's what she said. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Wahey! It finally got the praise it deserves!
In France, highways are limited to 80 mph.
If he wants to do 150 mph for instance, the police can seize the Aston, even if it's registred in Britain.
So I guess that Top Gear production team asked a special authorization. Or it's just the magic of video editing.
depends. Sometimes if you are lucky cops can be cool. But in 2021 it is much much rarer than it was in 2006.

Of all the kinds of challenges they do, this is the type I like the most.

James: my soul is prepared.
It's not about the HP, but about the aesthetic aspect - this is among one of the greatest looking cars - ever...
Watch this brilliant piece of TV then watch the new TG episode with Chris Evans and it makes you appreciate just how fantastic Clarkson, May, and Hammond are and how useless the new show is.
Captpicard And then watch these three take a huge steaming dump on new Top Gear with the first episode of The Grand Tour.
In many respects, I’m glad they moved on. Not how it Happened, but the BBC wouldn’t budge with new ideas and of course the problem of being the BBC.
Now they’ve got rid of Evans it’s better.
I won't watch or listen to anything with Chris Evans you are right though
its chris harris not chris evans(captain america)

My favourite episode of the legendary top gear. My dream car since I was little being driven by Jeremy but now at 17, 18 in a month the DBS V12 is my dream car beside The DB9 an ultimate upgrade and my favourite James Bond car from Casino Royale and Quantam Of Solace.
I love how they trash talk to each other just like partners who always fight but are deeply in love 😂🤣
6:50 I wonder how camera crew got on the streets before Jeremy passed. Besides, they used 3 times the same sound for 3 different shots of Jeremy passing by.
Thanks to Jeremy I knew how to open the fuel cap

Konrad Szpunar yeah, but Jezza is a lot more funny... and he doesn't even try
Would be interesting to see this race happen again as I bet public transport would win now

The Aston Martin DB9 is so pretty
Reminds me of the time I missed the train ran back my Jaguar XKR and did 120mph to catch it at the next station. Speeding is so much fun when you have a good reason to.
I bet that it was a concept that led to many sequels of Epic Races. Too bad the last one by the three of them is in the US in the Grand Tour.
