These old Top Gear challenges are just timeless, everything about them is perfect right down to the camera angles and soundtrack
the whole team really knew their craft
puts a smile on my face every damn time.
imagine watching this with modern video quality like in 4k 60fps it would be so good, even if it already is!
@@flauschxger I feel like the quality makes it more nostalgic. I don't think it would look that good at 4K. Plus lower quality for me is more easy on the eyes, so it makes the episode less demanding and more calm. That's just my view on it however.
@@Stroke999 depends on preference i guess, i mean it more like that way how cool it would be to see these episodes in a better quality but yeah i still like it as it is
Whats amazing is that 3 TV presenters with such different personalities not only worked together for so long but they are actually friends and continue to be good friends. As much as they annoy each other, they love working together. Thats a rare thing. Even when Clarckson got fired from the BBC. Hammond and May both left the show and followed Jeremy to do the Grand Tour. I love the loyalty they have in each other.
"Such different personalities"? In the spectrum of all the different people in the UK, let alone the world, they're practically identical triplets.

So they were told they'd be on a 737, they board a 757, and show a 767 taking off... ever heard of continuity?
I think a 777.
They boarded a 767. BA removed 757's from there fleet early 2000's.
william raffoul
G-CPES is a 757. It was still flying for BA as late as 2010.
The two remaining 757's BA had were used as sky tours aircraft.
Th departing aircraft is a Triple 7 :)
Honestly have a soft spot for this car. Probably one of the best to have ever been showcased in the show. Too bad it's seemingly forgotten about these days
its not really forgotten about, the issue is its sitting in the garage of a huge amount of collectors who never drive them, manny khoshbin is a great example, he has THREE
@@fish3439 he had 5 until recently
Because it falls apart faster then any other merc and that’s saying something. The trans goes every 10k miles and it’s a $35-60k job. It’s a car to look at, you don’t wanna drive it unless your literally Bezos, Musk, Soros money.
The SLR is so cool it deserves to be put in the top gear freezer
JAMES MAY HAS RUN ON TELEVISION!!!
@Bilal Khalid indeed
These three together in a show, is golden. No one ever, will be able to reach their entertainment value.
4:05 - And 8 years later after this originally aired Jeremy Clarkson would be an attendee at Mrs Thatcher's State Funeral in St Paul's Cathedral in London, so the production team in 2005 knew very well here about Jeremy's friendship with the former iron lady.

The DB9 race to Monte Carlo in 2004, this race in 2005 and the cross London race in 2007 are the best.

To add some superficial layer of nostalgia.
When I was a kid my dad bought me a remote control car. That remote control car was a Merc SLR. I played with it for days, made it drift, bump into things and what not. I was addicted to it. But then we moved houses and it was lost.
I don't have a lot of "Dream possessions" I wanna own. But I hav two. A Mercedes SLR and an AMG GT. Not the black edition. The regular one.
Hopefully someday I'll be able to realise my dream.

SkinoReturns He assaulted a producer... would have been taken to a tribunal if he wasn’t sacked. You cant expect to punch a colleague and not get fired.
@@TheStrictlyAwesome yes Jeremy punched a producer because he wanted a steak and he didn't get it cuz the Hotel chef had gone home and was offered a soup and cold meat platter instead and Imo that's no reason to punch somebody in the face just because you don't get the dinner you did want

Love that they use Biosphere and Amon Tobin tracks in this episode!!!
The supercharger whine at 1:21 gives me goosebumps

Dear top gear, Thank you for putting the Full segment, And not just the Highlights, It really does seem like a completely different segment, especially when you want to see all the parts inbetween, so thanks. and please continue.
I got to agree, with Hammond. The airport is possibly the most torturous part of any journey. I think, we're a very long way off just being able to hop on and off them like buses. Most times I've flown, they've said arrive 2 hours before the flight?! 2 + hours doing bugger all. Its tragic that we haven't progressed in any way on this aspect of air travel.
Richard says jeremy is too old here, 15 years later, they still makin tv shows

Keep it up top gear a love them it is so good and funny to see
I love the sound of that SLR
2:38 - "Ferry to catch" 3:50 - *Boards Eurotunnel*
Fun fact: After two years of ownership, the maintenance for this car will cost as much as the car’s original MSRP. You will pay double the initial price just to own this car for a few years.
That won't stop me if I had the money.
I still love the SLR after all this time! Especially the Stirling Moss version, it's just so beautiful!
There was me thinking I liked the SLK, until I saw this. Love it when they do these race you there programmes. Jeremy normally wins but not always. Eurotunnel was very smooth and easy when I used it, riding abroad on motorbikes with pals. I decided to stay on in France a few more days and still just turned up at departures and got any train back.
Well, this race and the Bugatti Veyron one were quite nonsensical from James' and Richard's part. What stopped them from taking a non-stop flight from wherever they are to where they need to be? Superficially these are really entertaining and awesome, but realistically overcomplicated and artificially manipulated resulting the cars to get gifted some of those wins by illogical choices of transport. Of course it's all just great entertainment and show, but I think in reality half of these races would have ended up like the GT500 Vs TGV and that wasn't even a race, but sold as one by Top Gear by adding false sense of suspense in the middle.
Song used in this clip is Amon Tobin - "Nightlife"
Great artist. Highly recommend checking out their work.
I recognized it instantly. Whoever was running the editing process has great taste in music.
