I know this comment is old but I have to agree. I've never been a huge fan of European exotics. I feel the average person calls them "beautiful" or "works of art" just because of the badge that they wear and because it's a status symbol. But Astons are just plain beautiful. They can toe the line between handsome and sexy so well that it's a real renaissance man of a car. Like a Gen 2 Viper that has more etiquette and no need to stab you to death because they can kill you with good looks alone. They might not be the fastest but they truly are beautiful cars.
The Vanquish S is by far, the best Aston EVER. It has the best sound too, and a top speed of more than 200 mph, the DBS can reach only 191. Vanquish S feels magical and only 1086 were ever built (2005-2007). For sure a collectable car, its value is currently increasing.
***** The Vanquish S was the last Newport Aston. That in itself makes it verrry special. If it would have had a manual gearbox and have the steering from the DB9, then it would be the best Aston ever. If you get over the nostalgia though DB9/S are much better cars and their more of drivers cars and less of Muscle cars is how I view it. However those cars were heavily influenced from the first Vanquish. The first Vanquish is like the grandfather of all newer Astons. I don't think the AM310 should be considered a "Vanquish" because it's too much of a sports car and not all big arched in the back like the real Vanquishes. That's what made them sexy. I felt like they should have kept the DBS since it was aimed at a different customer than the first-gen Vanquish and then they should have made the Vanquish in to some kind of muscle car like the first one. It could have been manufactured at the heritage center in Newport Pagnell in memory of the first generation. I love the Vanquish history and such but the DBS is the one that would best suit how I like to drive. They should have never destroyed that factory though!
***** Hello Vizenz, I agree with you... except that a DBS gets murdered by a Vanquish S in straight line performance, not only in top speed (more than 200 MPH for the Vanquish S, and "only" 183 for the DBS) but in acceleration (just look at the drag race of Top Gear, the DBS can not follow the mighty Vanquish S). On a track though, I admit the DBS would be quicker because it is lighter. For sure it was a big mistake to re-use the name "Vanquish" for the new one AM310. Let's hope Aston won't make that mistake again and won't call the future version "Vanquish S", I don't think they will. Exactly, the new AM310 remains a tuned DB9 and it is not an entire new model as the Vanquish was back in 2001. DB9, Virage, DBS, AM310, Rapide, V8 Vantage... those Gaydon cars all look like the same, and share approximately the same interior as well. That's why the Vanquish/S is unique. The 2006 Vanquish S benefits from the new dashboard, very modern. Of course the Vanquish S will remain one of the most iconic Aston, not only because it is the last hand-built Aston at Newport Pagnell factory, but because only 1086 were ever built (2578 Vanquish of which 1086 were Vanquish S), one of the fastest Aston ever, and the most beautiful engine sound. I had the chance to have a ride in a 2007 Vanquish S with a DBS, the engine sound of the Vanquish S was so loud and powerful that it was hiding the one of the DBS... magical. The DBS is a good car but the DB9 2013 has the same horsepower (510 BHP), more modern technology and suspension... and both look almost the same again... the DBS only has the fact that it appeared in James Bond movie, but it is not iconic, not historical, I mean that it didn't bring anything new when it was launched in 2007. As you said, the Vanquish in 2001 announced all the current models. By the way, we can notice that prices of Vanquish (especially S model) are rising up... no doubt this car will cost a lot in the next years.
***** Ya. For me though it would have to be a DBS or V12 Vantage manual. I love the old Vanquishes but it's just not made for the kind of driving serious car enthusiasts like. The old Vanquish is more of a rolling piece of sculpture and beauty. It's a car you rather be seen in but the other two are a car you would look forward to driving more. That's how I see it. I just wish the old Vanquish had the handling and manual transmission of the DBS. But the old Vanquish is obviously a completely different animal than the DBS and I should appreciate it for what it is and in many aspects I do. The 2013 DB9 is much more similar to the DBS than it ever has been previously but it doesn't have the aggressive stance, you can't get it in manual and it doesn't come with all those nice carbon fiber bits and doesn't handle as good. So that crosses it off the list for me. The DBS seems to be the Aston with all the best traits. It's not the quickest Aston, it's not the most exclusive, but in terms of all things it can accomplish it's really a great all rounder. The old Vanquish seems to only be better in certain parts but overall the DBS can accomplish more. Don't get me wrong though I love the Vanquishes a lot and it should be considered a godfather Aston in my book. It's just a completely different driving car which is strange because underneath their not exactly as different as one might think.
***** I had the opportunity to be the passenger in a Vanquish S on a racetrack, even though the car is a bit heavy, I can assure you that the chassis is incredibly stiff and that the car had so much power that it was playing with GT3 RS on large corners and straight lines. The Vanquish S can get the manual conversion by Aston Martin Works in Newport Pagnell but the automated-manual gearbox really suits the car and works perfectly fine. For sure a real manual is more involving but what a pleasure to shift at the steering wheel with the paddles ! To me, the DB9 2013 is better than the DBS because its suspension is more evolved and I prefer its look (I think the holes on the DBS hood are too much, looks too tuning, just as the V12 Vantage). The DBS doesn't have an unique style globally we find the same esthetic as a DB9. Anyway, it is not an entire new model, but a DB9 "S". You're right, a DBS can not be compared to a Vanquish S, they play in a different league. The DBS is a great GT, the Vanquish S is a work of art and a piece of Aston Martin History and so, one of the greatest Aston ever made. Plus, it is really fast, faster than DBS as we can see in this video. Nice to exchange with you, you know Astons pretty well and you have an interesting point of view.
God, that DBS is incredibly beautiful. Without a doubt, AM built the most elegent cars money can buy. I like the new 911, too, but those Astons are a completely different league...

DBS is the Vanquish-replacing flagship model that focus a lot about handling. The DB9 is the base model that focus more on road comfort. The Virage slots between them.
I usually agree a lot with what Clarkson says, but I disagree about the key. To me, it adds to the experience of driving the car. Its kinda like the second top speed key of the Veyron Supersport. This is the last stunning-looking, amazing driving, amazing sounding, NA V12, Manual DB-Car to me. The DB10 looks more like the current Vantage. The DB11 has a nose that extends till the next county, looks like a Fish, with fins everywhere. The DB12 is a little better, but still nowhere near being a "Bite The Back Of Your Hand Beautiful" car like this DB9S.
This is basically just the way of the manufacturer. "Brand new car.....All new concept" Only difference is the tail lights and some of the interior. He put it right, DB9S. The price should be 10,000 more at the MOST.
Why so many comments about the hellcat? This car is far better build it has a soul, it's build with passion, it's not mass produced! Either way good luck affording the insurance to drive it or getting an insurance company to Insure it
"affording" That's exactly why there are so many comments about the Hellcat. Because most people actually would have some hope of being able to afford a Hellcat at some point in their lives, the same can't be said for the Aston Martin. Aston is a better car, sure, but barely anyone would be able to get it.
Shazbotacus Dodge is not known for reliable cars or even engines, why they have used Mitsubishi turbo engines in there eagle talon's and cummins in there trucks because they can't build one of there own that people would buy. Dodge was so embarrassed they took there name off of there trucks, who does that when it's there biggest seller? idiots! why they went bankrupt in the first place
***** Rebuild whole body?? DBS just have lip on front bumper, black mirros, differnet rims with lower et and darker color, and lip spoiler on trunk. This stuff is in any aftermarket shop online you can find it. After 10 minutes of work you wont see any diffrence between them.
Simply wonderful!!!! Asto martin( especially DB 9 and Vantage) are dream cars, and there's no doubt! Greetings from Italy by Saverio from Cisternino, in the south of Italy.
Irk where you live, that not only one but two Aston Martins just pull up to the same light and it's like, just a casual day. But that sounds like a great place
I hate to toot my own horn, but I was thinking "instant future classic" the minute I first saw the DBS back then. The main reason why I would prefer it however has nothing to do with looks or the Bond-connection - it's because it came with a manual transmission.
Nice video and I just wish that the BBC do another race with the Aston Martin DBS vs a French TGV & a Spanish AVE Train with James and Richard going London St. Pancras-Channel Tunnel-Calais Frethun-Paris Gare du Nord-Gare de Lyon-Barcelona Sants if they wanted a race from London to Barcelona a distance of 970 mi and this video from 5:20 to 5:50 mentioned the DB9 going from Dunsfold to Cafe de Paris Casino Square Monte Carlo Monaco back in series 4
I'm a proud American and a believer in the Constitution, but I do see a unique element of sophistication with the British whether it's BBC's productions, their cars (Power...Beauty...Soul), or even their women. Especially the blonde lady to the right of Richard at the end. Whew!
The problem with the argument that the DB9 is just as good, is that history hasn't shown that to be true; DB9's of this vintage range from as little as $30k to $40k. Current resale for a DBS is still around $100k....
Clarkson went further about the similarity between the DB9 and the DBS in his DVD "Thriller," "I'm not sure about that (the DBS is a ground up replacement for the old Vanquish) because what I think this is is a DB9 that's been tickled and fettled and given some breast implants. "It has the same German made 6 litre engine as the DB9, the same basic architecture as the DB9 and even if you look behind the holes in the bonnet and the silly flared sills, the same body as the DB9. "Where have I seen this dashboard before? Was it on the Space Shuttle or was it in my kitchen... No, wait! It was on the DB9!"
I gotta say, more than 10 years later the DBS still looks absolutely stunning.
And the new Aston Martins look awful sadly

Love it. It's so beautiful, makes a fabulous noise and has a proper gearbox-a manual gearbox.
DBS looks a lot better than the DB9 in my opinion. I don't really like the DB9, but DBS is one of my favorite cars.
Change rims and they will be the same.
***** Rebuild whole body?? DBS just have lip on front bumper, black mirros, differnet rims with lower et and darker color, and lip spoiler on trunk. This stuff is in any aftermarket shop online you can find it. After 10 minutes of work you wont see any diffrence between them.
***** Well yeah... so new car should be "dbs R" with only, stripe on bonnet with adition 60k pounds.
DB9 looks better than DBS.
That vanquish S looks HUGE in comparison to the DBS
I hate to toot my own horn, but I was thinking "instant future classic" the minute I first saw the DBS back then. The main reason why I would prefer it however has nothing to do with looks or the Bond-connection - it's because it came with a manual transmission.
The spec on that DBS is GOLD
In my lifetime I dream of driving any type of Aston Martin across the UK or the Italian Lakes. This I will make as my supreme bucket list.
I never knew the Ford Fusion came as a coupe
This is the perfect aston for me: its a manual v12 bond car. What more do you want? Its wonderfully oldschool and beautiful.
DBS looks much better than the DB9...
As far as cars go they might as well be copies
Nice video and I just wish that the BBC do another race with the Aston Martin DBS vs a French TGV & a Spanish AVE Train with James and Richard going London St. Pancras-Channel Tunnel-Calais Frethun-Paris Gare du Nord-Gare de Lyon-Barcelona Sants if they wanted a race from London to Barcelona a distance of 970 mi and this video from 5:20 to 5:50 mentioned the DB9 going from Dunsfold to Cafe de Paris Casino Square Monte Carlo Monaco back in series 4
He said puff didley, is he the real life Homer Simpson?
Aston Martin is British essence and these cars are the best examples of this. The DBS is really nice
I prefer the DBS still
0:15 Halo 2 Wraith boost sound
DBS is a better looking DB9
Tbh i'd buy that Aston Martin just because it has the "Diamond" key, because it just looks so good.
I think the key is really cool
Yeah but the power, beauty, soul thing is downright unneeded.
I like the V8 Vantage which just used a Mondeo key!
Omg u are the Deadmau5 guuuy lol
@@CockatooDude At least it's true!
@@raedsakly2463 You know what, good point.
The reason why the Aston doesn't have the same wow factor is because it's tame, precise, understated, but it is in fact, the prettiest.
Only thing I don’t like on the Astons are the tail lights :/ everything else is perfection
My dream car is an Aston Martin 😍
I like the fact the DBS is a manual.
The first time I saw the Db9 in bond Pierce Brosnan era I sat in the cinema and said I will have that one day
And did you? 🤞 I truly hope so.
6:35 Yes, DB9 S is what it should be called. When that car was launched, Aston Martin had already make an S version of the Vanquish and the Vantage.
Love my DB9 And my ECU is a bonus!
I spotted both these cars yesterday on the m8 going to Edinburgh.
If I was to make a list of the top 10 best looking cars this century, these three would all be in it.
holy sh*t it's so sexy, I'm literally melting
Music at 4:57? It sounds familiar.
After all this time, next to the DB5, this is still the best-looking car Aston has ever built.
Proper English engernering.... love that car :)
DBS is the best looking Aston!
I'm a proud American and a believer in the Constitution, but I do see a unique element of sophistication with the British whether it's BBC's productions, their cars (Power...Beauty...Soul), or even their women. Especially the blonde lady to the right of Richard at the end. Whew!
Aston Martin is my favourite car brand.
The 2007 Aston Martin DBS today is the most beautiful car ever made. And I'm saying it as an Italian. Change my mind.
the DB9 loooks so much then the DBS lmaooo
Please can someone tell me the name of the music which begins at 4:45, it sounds amazing
The problem with the argument that the DB9 is just as good, is that history hasn't shown that to be true; DB9's of this vintage range from as little as $30k to $40k. Current resale for a DBS is still around $100k....
It's 2023 and this car still looked pretty
The DBS is lovely but how on EARTH did they get those leaves to blow backwards TOWARDS the car?
I miss top gear I miss something I enjoyed
That and the last generation Vantage are the best looking cars ever in my opinion.
Surely the Vanquish S looks better than the Vantage? Or the XJ220? Or the Ford Scorpio?
Jokes on you Jeremy, I don't have to be next to an Aston Martin DBS at a stoplight to feel inadequate! ha!
at 0:15, that sfx sounds just like the wraith from Halo 3 to Reach
Clarkson went further about the similarity between the DB9 and the DBS in his DVD "Thriller,"
"I'm not sure about that (the DBS is a ground up replacement for the old Vanquish) because what I think this is is a DB9 that's been tickled and fettled and given some breast implants.
I would still take the DBS and gladly pay the extra 50 000 pounds
Aston Martin DB9... best looking car ever made
3:09
I was wondering for some time from which Clarkson's review that line was and here it is!
Ferraris are your track or weekend type car. Astons are you pull up to dinner in a suit and make every woman's jaw drop typa car
