But the most beauty in driving, the most joy I ever feeled, was in Italy. Italy is such a beautiful country. Empty mountain passes, long history, so many nice villages and cities left over from the renaissance era. Italians are passionate about cars, coffee and food. And Top Gear supported that and added to it, because they felt the same way. The sounds, the pageantry, the passion of it. The heritage, the history, the importance of it. Top Gear was and still is special to me.

The editing, videography, its all beatiful no doubt. Although the quality is really good, i personally think that this car looks absolutely hideous. It is really ugly

Ando Vermeulen Moreover, this video depicts all the passion I have for driving and cars. Some people look at my BMW 318ci and laugh at how much I adore my car and mock me about how I’m easily smoked on the lights or how my 0-100 is pathetic. But I ignore them completely because there comes a time where I’m all alone on a mountain road with my perfectly balanced RWD little sports car, fitted with sticky performance tyres, and I put all my heart into doing the perfect shifts, hitting every apex and going out of a bend with just the right amount of revs so the descrete rumble from under the bonnet can make me eargasm. There’s no explanation for it and it’s pointless to explain it to normal people and even petrolheads that are all about tuning shitty cars so they can brag about some meaningless figures.

This car... Its really hard to explain really... Its like having a crush... You know you wont have it, but you really love everything about it, even though others think its ugly, and all you remember is Disco Volante all the time...
Jason Enrico It's a shame really. This car is gonna be one of the last beautiful cars due to how the car industry is moving towards more futuristic and quite ugly designs.
This is one of the best top gear car reviews, I've ever watched, the cinematics facing Jeremy on the bonnet is like out of a movie of sorts, I've never seen that before in any other review. This is better than the new top gear, they did it better back then, but now, it's just, not the same, and it never will be again...
I have seen so many automobile videos, but this , this is something special which I cannot explain. the original top gear is no more. so sad when I feel that. at the ending, the music of Ludovico enaudi, sound of this beautiful car and poetic words of Jeremy. most probably the best car review of the history of mankind,,,............ no words to explain.
JAGUAR JO I've seen this video many times and it always make me feel like I wanna cry, I'm a alfaholic and the words from Jeremy Clarkson and that music is really impressive.
I didn't even realize the Ludovico Einaudi - Experience at the end. Wow no wonder there was so much pathos in the end. I just love this car to death because it has such class and beauty, yet a classic muscly exhaust note toned down to soothe and relax. That is like the perfect recipe of a car that entails harmony in my life.
It gives me freaking goosebumps every time I watch this. I almost cry every time Ludovico starts playing the piano. They used to make these basically in the backyard of my grandma's house...
The car is great, but the video shots and editing and simply amazing. Hats off to your video production team from a guy who's been tinkering with video for 40 years.
***** Sorry Top Gear production team :( hope you'll be able to find work somewhere else and bring your skill with video editing with you. R.I.P. Top Gear- You shall be missed...
Just hearing Jeremy say "I love that car, I really do." Makes me emotional. I know he says that about every second car he drives but you can tell he really means it here. Great review, really shows what made TG different to everyone else.
long live to Jeremy who was the man who started my passion for this brand, almost 10 years ago. Thanks to him my first and actual car is an Alfa and i feel like its not gonna be the last one.
Alfa may be criticized for her defects mainly due to company wrong decisions, but there's no brand on this planet with her history and charm... That's the point 😍
***** I know very good alfa's story I got a 1976 spider 2000 which I take every week-end for a spin, I adore this brand, I'm not this kind of teenage sh*tbag who just looks for horsepower and aggressive lines. I let that for AUDI fans. I love the beautiful Italian shapes, the way these cars are full of little drawbacks that makes them so special, you need to know these cars to drive them, you can't just let them be driven properly by anyone else. I just wanted to speak only about the amazing video editing they did on the vantage V12 review, not about the car itself (which is also absolute perfect but not as much as the work they did on the disco volante)
The 458 review, Lexus LFA, McLaren P1, LaFerrari, Porsche 918, Bentley Continental GT, the history of British Racing Green by Hammond, Clarksons Jag E Type 50th Birthday, Pagani Zonda R ... There have been so many....
I agree for you all who says this car is ugly. I do, but thats how almost alfa looks at the first glance. but the more you look at it, the more you'll feel the essence and beauty of this car. then you'll fall in love. you have to have sense of art to see alfa romeo beautiful
The same happened to me when I first saw the 156. I thought to myself: "What have these guys in Alfa done?!" More than 15 years later I'm still in love with that car.
very true, alfa designs might look uncanny and odd at the first glance, but then it will always grow on you as the time pass by and finally you say to yourself "they're right, their cars are beautiful"
Ah, Ludovico's music worked incredibly well with this short.. Particularly with the engine's backing vocals. The music by themselves is amazing, but with Clarkson's narration and the engine... Phwoar, goosebumps all over.
+Andrew Guo I was curious about the song Jeremy talked about - Otis Redding - (Sittin' On) The Dock of The Bay, I was expecting a grunty deep voice from the sound it makes kind of like Tom Waits has in his song Satisfaction, but it's actually a soft voice my guess is Clarkson didn't even listen to the song and only looked at the lyrics and name of the singer and imagined how an "Otis" should sound
They are beauties no doubt. On the other hand I never had Alfa that worked for whole year without fault. Exagerated. Alfa produce faults on month basis. Most defective cars I have ever had. But beauties... if you dont look at engine.
You don't understand it, until you've owned one. They're temperamental, flawed and have many drawbacks, but they have so much character and so much soul, I have never loved a car as much as my old GTV6.
I drive Alfa over 15 years and i can`t imagine that you ever drove one. Yes they made produce faults especially in the electric but never in the engines you could believe
When you see that Enzo Ferrari was a engineer and mechanic who worked to this company...and see the outstanding design turning this brand so exclusive is like to own a Picasso Art..
This is the Top Gear I fell in love with. The cinematography, the no holds bared review, the history into present presentation and watching Jeremy Clarkson fall in love with a hand made Alpha.
@@saidalas7763 yeah it,s maybe not the "best looking" by modern car-manifacturing stadards, but you can simply see the emotion and passion put into it, which to me makes it way more beatifull than any ferrari or whatever is out there
I think even if I meet either a sheet-metal worker or perhaps a janitor who works at Touring in Milano, I'd still kiss their feet with a handkerchief and ask for their blessing before I go on my day. Having said that, I won't mind even being their lawn caretaker, if they'd ever need one. That's quite how in-love I am with this particular car. =D
I own a 2016 Giulietta. Whilst its a far cry from this absolute beauty, the care and attention put into it to make every contour, every curve as pretty as possible really does resonate. It may not be the best car on the road, but by God does it put a smile on my face when I take it somewhere with long, winding roads. Alfas do have a heart and soul, one which is so hard to describe but is so intuitive for anyone who's ever driven one. They're all masterpieces of engineering in their own right, and Clarkson perfectly encapsulates the exact feeling I hope to feel one day driving an Alfa built sports car.
I love Italy! I love the mindset of the people there. I love the way they live and the way they think. I love the Language and I do love the Culture. I love the Art and the Heritage. I love the Engineering and I love the Craftsmanship. This Car is Italy! It's Stunning, it's alive, it's drowning in soul and hearth, it's everything great about Italy made into a car! It has its flaws, it has it's lows, but none of that matters, because once you feel something for it, there is NO coming back. I love this car. I love Italy. I love everything about it, and I can see nothing that could possibly change that. I know it is not perfect, that it is not flawless, but for me, it has no flaws.
I try to explain this to people but they don't get it. I worked for many years with supercars, drivin'em across EU, buying and selling them. I drove EVERYTHING, starting with Lambos and Ferraris, Ford GT, the V10 M5, Bentley GT Continental, even the Bugatti Veyron and so on. But the ONLY car I literally cried in the bathroom when they took it out of my hands was the Maserati GranTurismo S That car was ALIVE I swear to God...you could literally play songs by joggling the revs of the engine, the right gear and exhaust note !! I would smile and laugh even STANDING STILL at every stop light.
This is why I think Italian cars are the best... some of them may not be reliable ... some may fall a bit short on onboard tech.. some may cost a bit too much for what they are... but.. from a car enthusiast point of view .. and from someone who has the HONOR to live in the most beautiful country this world has ever witnessed ... I simply think that not any other car brand in the world can give you feeling emotions tears goosebumps ecc like Italian ones.. simply sitting in a Ferrari already makes you break a tear.. because you know you're sitting in a legendary thing... I had the privilege to have a little trip with a friend that bought an Alfa 4c... man.. the sound alone made me smile like nothing else .. a lot of people may disagree but I can say at least for me ... no other sport car beside any Italian one can give you that kind of feeling.. and that's why Italian sport and super cars are doing so well.. they're simple masterpieces on wheels (no saying this because I'm Italian, German Japanese American ecc cars are absolutely amazing as well ... I simply think that they can't make you feel special like Italian cars)
The first time I saw this car I immediately thought "Now what the hell is this?" I honestly did not understand it. But as I watch the video again and again, I begin to realize the true meaning of the design. As far as I've deduced, the reason why so many call this car "ugly" even though it actually is a masterpiece is because its unconventional. you never see this kind of design replicated in other cars nowadays making it hard to understand. A good example of this is the line that connects both door handles which passes around the whole front of the car where the wheel arches, the headlights, and the grill all connect. It is one uninterrupted line that you can never see in today's design. You have to approach this car the same way you approach art - remove all your previous notions about what is right and what should be, then you'll realize its true beauty.
This is why Top Gear is at the top of car shows. In just 8 minutes they are able to make you feel like you want that car more than anything else. Even with womens it works slower. The music, the editing, everything is just spot on. This is getting emotional and that is really high praised.
Everything in this video is pure excellence. Starting with Jezza, maserati engine, alfa romeo badge, Italian countryside and the cherry on the top Einaudi's Experience as bgm. This is one of the most special videos on youtube.
Bloody hell the best combination of cinematograhpy, soundtrack, journalism and narration. Hopefully the members of this brilliant team that absolutely reached the pinnacle of TV in 2013-2015 get together and make something again sometime.
That Maserati engine sounds absolutely gorgeous. It almost brings me to tears knowing that they're going to be converting to electric and this engine note will be a thing of the past soon..
We germans may be the best engeeniers in the world, building longlastig, fast and conftable cars, but italian cars are most beutiful things in the world, and i envy them for their craftmanship. Maserati Quattroporte, Alfa 8C etc.
It's true that today any car has the same expected life. Based on my experience, I'd say reliability has become just a myth. All brands are equally now. My grandpa had a lot of out of the box electronic issues with its various Mercedes I had one big out of the box issue with my Abarth Punto (broken diaphragm, entire clutch mechanism had to be changed), for the rest the car was perfect. I have some small out of the box issues with my BMW (HiFi speakers creaking and Front Window ventilation making some noise) I had no issues with my old Mazda 6, except standard things because it was getting old (clutch issues mainly). I had no issues with my Fiat Barchetta (just once the front window sweeper's engine broke but it was REALLY cold, like -5C, so something was frozen). Statistically it's hard to say with such a small sample, but all in all, I'd say no Brand is more reliable than any other. And certainly not nationality. Look at Opel, probably one of the worst company in terms of reliability (on it's Diesel cars at least)
This is a prove that cars aren't only about handling, speed and power. Some cars a much more than that, and I'm happy that Jeremy found a perfect way to describe this car. Cause the only thing that matters in life is love - family, friends, things you love can not be explained logicaly. Love is the single thing on Earth that has got no explanation (except of quantum-physics). I want to say BIG thank you to Top Gear and especelly Jeremy Clarkson, for sharing this amazing car. Sure, I don't agree that it's beautiful car in the world, but I agree with Jeremy's feelings. I think that the point of this video wasn't just to review this car, I think that the point of this video was to prove what really matters to us.
+GetMine - SKEpic I could not agree with you more. This car is strangely beautiful, theirs just something about it that separates it from the Bugatti and Koenigsegg crowd. it is what cars are all about. I will say though, with a gated manual transmission (look at the early Lamborghini's) this would be in my opinion the greatest car in 20 years.
Still come back to this video today. The soul, passion and love that comes from this clip is unbelievable. Really is a testament to the golden era of Top Gear
One of Clarksons more intelligent reviews rather than just going round the Top Gear track going POWUUUUURRRR. He actually analyses it and describes it in perfect detail.
This is my most favorite Top Gear segment of all time in terms of single car spots. The cinematography, music and editing is at it's peak here, and Clarkson once again knocks it out of the park with witty analogies and passionate sincerity. Also love how the aspect ratio changes at 3:14 and again at 6:37 to let the audience breathe and admire the car and the scenery surrounding it. Crazy how 10 years later car youtubers are still trying to capture the essence of what made these Top Gear segments so great in the first place.
Jeremy Clarkson will always be known as "the King of Top Gear". He makes the best car reviews all around I've ever seen! Thank you Mr. Clarkson and Top Gear for all those great moments all over the years, really thank you!
I dont know why. But every now and then I come back to watch this video. I have never owned a car, dont know how to drive properly. But all of a sudden this is my dream car and I imagine driving this masterpiece on the streets of Italy.
there will never be another group of guys that truly capture what it is to be madly in love with cars and how they make us petrol heads feel. they way they view and talk about them is truly unmatched. i owe so much to those three for all the knowledge and my continuous growth in passion for cars. it’s reviews like this that constantly remind me of that. one of the best ever made.
Through all the years of this great program, for me, it was these smaller reviews when they truly fell in love with a car, that really were my favorite bits of the show.
This video is hands on the best video segment Top Gear has ever made for me. The background music, story, the car itself obviously. EVERYTHING about this video is perfect. This is the Top Gear I’m addicted to
6:35 onwards,is the reason why i keep coming back, the music, the scenery, the shots of hammer thrashing metal into sculpture and clarkson's at his finest, pure perfection.
+RSfandude dude, alfa romeo montreal, u should chack that one out, old cars are way better dream cars then new cars, i own a alfa romeo 164 ts and a 156 Q4 and montreal woult top it off :D
Everytime I wanna get some goosebumps I come back to this. Jeremy gets cars. He understands them on a deeper level. It's hard to put in words what I mean. Petrolheads know what i'm talking about.
The car, the cinematography, the presenter, the music... everything just goes together so well that its beyond perfection, nothing touches the level of quality of this film
I didn't like it at first, but as the video started to get emotional I fell in love with the car the more I looked at it, for those who found it ugly then obviously you're just fans of modern super cars and are oblivious to the vintage aesthetic that made the car attractive
for me the mosyt beautiful car in history is aston martin vanquish. the new astons are dashy but the styling of vanquish was something special. its hard to describe in words
Imagine spending years pouring your heart and soul into designing and building this car and then Clarkson releases this review.

Totale agree!!
Form time to time I re-watch this highly emotional review form that magister of English journalism
I Agreed was made from Jeremy's Soul
I have seen so many automobile videos, but this , this is something special which I cannot explain. the original top gear is no more. so sad when I feel that. at the ending, the music of Ludovico enaudi, sound of this beautiful car and poetic words of Jeremy. most probably the best car review of the history of mankind,,,............ no words to explain.
JAGUAR JO I've seen this video many times and it always make me feel like I wanna cry, I'm a alfaholic and the words from Jeremy Clarkson and that music is really impressive.
cant leave out the seamless editing, scenery of the road, and great camera work
Indeed good sir, indeed
I didn't even realize the Ludovico Einaudi - Experience at the end. Wow no wonder there was so much pathos in the end. I just love this car to death because it has such class and beauty, yet a classic muscly exhaust note toned down to soothe and relax. That is like the perfect recipe of a car that entails harmony in my life.
Whats the name of the song?
Who shot this? They should be making freaking movies. Beautiful execution of a beautiful car!
It gives me freaking goosebumps every time I watch this. I almost cry every time Ludovico starts playing the piano. They used to make these basically in the backyard of my grandma's house...

This is the greatest car review i've ever seen !!!!
You should also see jeremy's review on the Aston Martin V12 that is, to me, the most amazing car review that I have ever seen.
+Raed Sakly stunning quality from this shot, the best video of a car of all time!
P1 from Clarkson for me.
Very true, buddy. Its like falling in love with a hot college girl of the future.
they must be blind..
It looks elegantly weird, if that makes sense.
"It's Otis!"
the unadulterated joy in Jeremy's voice and on his face is absolutely priceless :D
Isn't funny that he actually has no idea who Otis was?
@@goprodog4304 Well I mean, he knew that his hometown Is Georgia.
Umm... sorry to bother you , but what does Otis mean?
@@syedsaadzubair4602 it’s Otis Redding, a soul singer from the 60s. Jeremy sings the song Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay
Ah, Ludovico's music worked incredibly well with this short.. Particularly with the engine's backing vocals. The music by themselves is amazing, but with Clarkson's narration and the engine... Phwoar, goosebumps all over.
+Andrew Guo And of course, there's always a dash of Clarkson Humour... "Left my home in GeorgiaaaaAAAAARRRRGGGGGH!"
they originally used the mass effect leaving earth ost for British viewers.
+Andrew Guo I think I've heard the musician Clarkson talks about in the video has passed away this week... :(
+Tiago Miranda Otis Redding? He's been gone for some time... Ludovico Einaudi is still alive and well I think
Now I know why people love Alfas.. Such beauty *
They are beauties no doubt. On the other hand I never had Alfa that worked for whole year without fault. Exagerated. Alfa produce faults on month basis. Most defective cars I have ever had. But beauties... if you dont look at engine.
The busso v6 is one hell of an engine to look at
You don't understand it, until you've owned one.
The way he describes a car, like describing a living thing, Jeremy is just epic.
"And a handcrafted body to Die for"
This line gives me chills every time...
This is the Top Gear I fell in love with. The cinematography, the no holds bared review, the history into present presentation and watching Jeremy Clarkson fall in love with a hand made Alpha.
I gotcha Racer...is a beautiful melding of the senses that Jeremy makes you privy 2.

Dédé LABINOUZE this is by far the best comment ever written on youtube!!!Bless you man and bless all the guys at Touring!
Here in 2019, and this car & review is still the best by far.
But the ONLY car I literally cried in the bathroom when they took it out of my hands was the Maserati GranTurismo S
That car was ALIVE I swear to God...you could literally play songs by joggling the revs of the engine, the right gear and exhaust note !!
I would smile and laugh even STANDING STILL at every stop light.
Ciao, i am glad to see that you appreciate so much my country,I agree with you ,this car is the italy... I love it.

With a car history which went Fiat 850 Spider, Lancia Beta Coupe, Fiat X1/9 and has now included a Lancia Fulvia Zagato I'd have to agree with you.
Hands down this video deserves an Oscar for the sheer brilliance of Jeremy Clarkson !
That man is epic!!
7 Years later and the Disco Volante still quivers and shakes my heart in this Clarkson Segment
9 years and still the best
I rewatched this episode last night, and I was almost brought to tears. Stunning work.
Who did you watched it ?
We germans may be the best engeeniers in the world, building longlastig, fast and conftable cars,
but italian cars are most beutiful things in the world, and i envy them for their craftmanship.
Maserati Quattroporte, Alfa 8C etc.
simplebodo you're right about fast and comfortable German cars but longlasting is almost a myth after mid 2000s.
It's true that today any car has the same expected life. Based on my experience, I'd say reliability has become just a myth. All brands are equally now.
My grandpa had a lot of out of the box electronic issues with its various Mercedes
I had one big out of the box issue with my Abarth Punto (broken diaphragm, entire clutch mechanism had to be changed), for the rest the car was perfect.
I have some small out of the box issues with my BMW (HiFi speakers creaking and Front Window ventilation making some noise)
I had no issues with my old Mazda 6, except standard things because it was getting old (clutch issues mainly).
Look at Opel, probably one of the worst company in terms of reliability (on it's Diesel cars at least)
>long lasting

Alfa Romeo is bigger than the UNESCO.
