LCardoso17 When you watch the show it's not like that. Old Top Gears on RUclips have this awful sound editing for some strange reason. Almost as if BBC wants to punish us to watch for free.
As said, from the comments you read to copy and make your post... Its the music being dubbed out. BBC can play any copyrighted music it wants on TV, not youtube!
It's because the sound editor needs to remove the original copyrighted soundtrack in the background which muffs some of the voice and then he needs to replace it with a public domain track usually tuned more inappropriately for the clip then the original track.
Some say he has no understanding for the concept of sound and that he pushed the cotton q-tip to hard in his ears, all we know is that he is called the TopGear sound editor...
Its so hard to believe that this was 10 years ago. I remember watching this when it was first aired. God I feel old. The Aston is still epic though, at whatever age.
Must I say that Aston Martin does get a little extraordinary with their pricing, but minus the small cockpits and numerous interior issues...when you start the engine, all of that goes away, away, away. I've had a DB9 for a year now and even though it poses some everyday threats I would never go back on my decision. I'm broke now, but it's still fun. Haha. The DB7 is a beautiful representation of Aston Martin design and ingenuity.
Bruh that's V12 torque. And that was only just over 400 hp. The vette C6 Z06 on the other hand 500 hp..... and its 7.0L of torque. He did the same in the Evo8 FQ400 and the giant turbo and small engine isn't really suitable for that kind of pull so it lagged heavily.
I was able to get me a Jaguar XKR, over 14 years after seeing it for the first time. Mine has 100k miles and I am in processes of rebuilding the suspension. I cant wait till shes all put together!
Seriously Clarkson has such an amazing voice! I don't think there are many movie actors who have a better voice than him. Plus the way he describes a car 😍😍. Nobody does it like Clarkson.
Formula 1? I don't know about what Jaguar did in Formula 1, except that Formula E. XK must come back. It's beautiful, iconic, timeless and a beast. The F-type is a toy compared to it. It's nice but XK remains XK. I would love to have a 3 liter engine whether turbo-diesel or petrol. Imagine how good it would be if it came now like the other new models of Jaguar. It would be improved in the cabin, more space, more comfy, etc. It's a dream car for me.
So obvious what happened here. As Aston and Jaguar were owned by the same company at the time, Ford, the XKRR was not allowed to do a proper lap. Because it would beat the old man's Aston in every way. The XKRR mysteriously came back with a messed up suspension. Yeah, right. Corporate politics at its strongest. The reason we never got a manual gearbox XK8 in the first place was because Aston knew nobody would buy the XJS based DB7 if there were a XK8 6 speed manual.
No LSD too. :( But the reason for no LSD I guess is really because the Jag devs knew the cars wouldn't really be pushed that hard anyway. But yes you're right I prefer the XKR than the outdated looking DB7 lol. XKR just is better in every way.
That old XK8 still looks classy and beautiful. This Aston looks like a Toyota in comparison. What were they thinking? New Astons, however, look fantastic.
It was designed in the early 90s, before Ford took over, and their development budgets back then were tight, hence it had to use 20 year old underpinnings passed down from Jaguar.
Nicolas Broszky opinions are like buttholes - everybody's got one. and yes, DB5 is indeed beautiful, certainly in the top 3. DB11 is still terrible. can't get past the awful rear end. the sides panels look like they were bent inwards in an accident, making the front wheels pop out a little bit.
Ik this is an old comment but XKR looks wayyy better than the dated DB7. If you check that most of the bits like the tailights and things on the DB7 are from old Mazdas. Besides an FD RX-7 looks better than a DB7.
I got mine for just under $195k shipped from the factory. BTW the cockpit is roomy...for an Aston, it depends on your height (I'm 5'10"). If you're thinking of getting a DB7 I would highly recommend it, I would love to get one. Look on their site for the delivery from factory option, I think they still offer it on all vehicles. I live in San Jose and I had it delivered from them to the local dealership, no showroom fingerprints on it.
Some say that the sting is actually the top gear sound editor, and that he purposely deafens clarkson's voice whenever clarkson is saying something very controversial
i just saw an Aston Martin DB7 GTA, in deep blue, here in East London today. Blew my mind away. So stunningly elegant yet aggressive at the same time. Looks even better than the DBS in my opinion.
Maybe was said before, but dear Top Gear video editors, please, take time to analyze how the end product (the uploaded video) looks and sounds, because right now the message I am getting when watching Some of the videos is that is a job done in a rush, with big differences in sound and image quality between videos. And age isn't a problem, as the newer videos suffer from this point of view, maybe more. This video is just one of them. Great show, just keep up the quality here as well.
Interesting enough Jaguar eventually created the XKR-S GT which is similar in spirit to this XKRR. Yet there is still the V12 Vantage S and the DB11 is coming.
yeah and I havent been to the UK but my dad was in the NAVY and my friends grandparents live in Britan...they both have told me time after time that they are so happy once they get back to the states
Aston Martins are one of the only makes that I usually find more attractive than Jaguars. In this case, I gotta go the other way. This is probably one of the "ugliest" AMs...which still makes it better looking than 90% of other cars. But Jaguar wins this beauty contest hands down.
my car just touches 58mph in 2nd gear before the fuel cut rev limiter, this this reaches 58mph in 1st, not sure if its got so many revs or if the final drive ratio is very tall
+Richard Harrold That Aston is definitely not prettier than the Jag, in my opinion the old Aston design (Vanquish, DB7, etc) was hideous, the newer Vantage design was a lot better.
That's always been a problem. Yes, they're fast, refined and studiously cool, but whenever you could buy an Aston, you could also buy a Jag that would be cheaper, more advanced, better handling and better looking. Ford rather shot themselves in the foot buying both marques in unison (actually I think they were trying to oppose then-GM owned Lotus, but that partnership didn't really come to much of note except the Carlton- and, of course, the first ZR-1.)
For anybody saying it’s the RUclips conversion with different audio being spliced in to avoid copyright just look up the original episode of the supercars in France when they take the GT, Zonda and 430 Spider to Paris and that bridge at the end. The audio mixing on that is absolutely horrendous.
For Jeremy to be the taster of zillions of high end cars, he still doesn't realize you DON'T have to hold the starter button down to start the car!! JUST TOUCH IT, JEREMY!
He's just playing to the British market. After all, he loves this car. The company (and Jaguar) was essentially saved by Ford. Without their financial support, the DB7 wouldn't have made it. On top of that, this 6.0 v12 is basically two plain old Duratec 30 v6 engines (Taurus/Sable engine) that were built into one. The prototype was literally two blocks welded together with a custom machined crank (obviously production engines are a single cast but still share the same bore, stroke and spacing). So yeah...double Taurus power for the Astons!
WRONG! 94XJ was correct, the V12 used in the Aston is two Ford Duratec V6s together, it uses the Roller finger follower cyl head layout. It was penned at Dearborn USA. I worked for Premier Automotive Group. They should have used the Jaguar V6 cylinder head based architechture for the V12. Cosworth DID optimise the cams and ports of the Aston V12 later on. I was involved in the X600 F type and then they killed it off
Well, on the way home, the wheel came off haha. Which bend the bonnet, so ive had to replace that and all four wheels as they were all fitted with incorrect spacers. Also the ignition barrel has been taken apart and welded back together (badly) so a lot of the time it prevents the car from starting. Getting it all sorted at the moment though so hopefully it will be ok :).
Two things spring to mind here. 1 - I don't know why the audio levels are so off here. I have a recording of this episode, original broadcast I believe, and it sounds absolutely fine IMO. 2 - This segment has always stood out to me as a real gem from TG's early days, before it developed the feel we came to know from it. Two gloriously beautiful cars (the XK looks better now than it ever did, as mentioned in a later episode, and the DB7 has forever been a stunner) and Jeremy being his usual, younger self. But more than that - if TG has taught us one thing, it's that cars can really have a soul, a personality, and I feel that so much in this review. When that beautiful music from the Wonderland soundtrack comes on and the old DB7 is revealed - talking about how gracefully its styling has aged even as it's been meddled with, and later on talking about its many flaws and that it ostensibly feels over the hill, I almost start to feel bad for it, strange as it sounds. A sense of, well 'it's time to retire the old girl and let the new talent take hold', the sad former glamour of a faded old star, as Jeremy alluded to in that rocker analogy later on. So when he then starts to lavish praise on its performance, how much better it is than the old car, how amazing it is to drive, you're rooting for it. Strange to think of a £104,000 Aston Martin as an underdog but, next to this crazy then new Jag concept and the other sports cars of the era it does actually feel that way. I love that car so much, and I love the mood set in that review - it is wonderfully done. An early example of TG's greatness... man I miss this show.
Nah, although he also seemed to be in love with the power of the ZR1, the Z06 is the one they did the 5th gear start in. The C5 does it as well, I own one haha.
With the XK8 Jaguar has reached the non plus ultra of car beauty. It is a flawless design and I think Jaguar should seriously consider sticking to its design and stop pouring new ones. Maybe a few changes in the engine and suspension now and then to improve the performance.
Some say he is deaf and has no ears. Its the top gear sound editor.

It isn't, it was the same on TV when it aired.

LCardoso17 When you watch the show it's not like that. Old Top Gears on RUclips have this awful sound editing for some strange reason. Almost as if BBC wants to punish us to watch for free.

Corvette Zo6 did better than that in 5th!
Inc0mplete13 it did something like 175 in 3rd right
Dis al dai vokken krag
How the hell did the sound editors let this post? Did they actually watch the video before posting it?
it's a RUclips conversion problem not the sound editor.
ok
+Lebiche I think that is what happens when you turn a 5.1 sound into a two-speaker output. Bogus.
TopGear has that sometimes
It's because the sound editor needs to remove the original copyrighted soundtrack in the background which muffs some of the voice and then he needs to replace it with a public domain track usually tuned more inappropriately for the clip then the original track.
Jeremy: "and you can do fifty-eight miles an hour."
Me: "wut..."
Jeremy: "In first!"

Damn when Jeremy said "It has a grat sound. Listen to this!" and when he took off I got goose bumps all over my body! That car is awesome!
What a nicely balanced audio this video has. Good job, editor.

With the XK8 Jaguar has reached the non plus ultra of car beauty. It is a flawless design and I think Jaguar should seriously consider sticking to its design and stop pouring new ones. Maybe a few changes in the engine and suspension now and then to improve the performance.
