Try using WAXED dental floss. It’s coated so that it slides in between your teeth easily so there’s less pain or struggling to get through. That is what helped me. I floss at least once a day and after meals if needed. It’s so important.
Maybe try a different type or brand of floss. I have tight/crowded teeth so I use Oral-B EssentialFloss. I also like this: GUM Soft-Picks (original version). It's flexible and thinner than a toothpick.

I use my water flosser everyday! You definitely don't need mouthwash as much if you are brushing and flossing properly.

They say the more you floss the less it will hurt or maybe you're flossing too hard. Pain when flossing could be an indication of gum disease.
