  • For the first time in Australian history, Toyota have brought the GR Hilux to our shores. It will be the new flagship Hilux by replacing the outgoing Rugged X and will sit ahead of the Rogue in the lineup. Although the GR sport COSTS MORE than the Rogue, is it actually a better vehicle? In this video, I will be comparing my brand new Hilux Rogue to the new GR Sport based off the specifications released by Toyota.

      Totally agree. Bought my GR at the end of last year and love it. More power than anyone needs on a public highway. If you want to go into the desert, take a Ranger. If you want to get out of the desert, take a Toyota.

Hopefully in the new shape hilux they make cab and bed bigger and wider so it’s not tight fit for passengers and bed can be useful

      Thanks mate! I live in cairns, it’s been raining a lot here so it’s beautiful this time of the year. The new hilux will be based on the new global chassis which is shared with the 300 series from my information. That may be worth while upgrading as they will have a lot of new tech (which not everyone will want). It will definitely kick Ford out of the race for the top spot but I think Ford may take the top selling vehicle for a couple of years. This won’t happen until 2025 apparently

    GR sport is not worth the $$. You have heaps of power and yours is spot on. You are right about the tune. More reliability with our specs. More power equals heat which equals wear. I reckon the track will end up the same as yours for parts sharing. Your Rogue looks mint.

      @@NorthOz yes sir 2023 is looking good for sure with these North Oz uploads, in terms of the new GR I was surprised they didn't put a new more powerful engine in there since the competition is getting ahead, here in SA we already had a GR making the same exact numbers 165kw and 550nm from last year, but I have to say it looks good and aggressive compared to the one we have here, but for you guys in Australia the GR is just a facelifted rogue with a tune so its literally the same car, but me personally I don't care about the power the raptor makes, the hilux can literally handle everything with its current power, bro keep up the cinematic views in the videos it makes the video 10x enjoyable to watch 💪👌

  • @simmo6035
    @simmo6035 Год назад +2

    The 2.8 has been putting out 550nm and 165kw in overseas markets for sometime. I wouldn't be worried about longevity in the GR. Toyota specifically designed the grill with a lot more air flow to aid with cooling.

    • @NorthOz
      @NorthOz  Год назад

      That’s good to know about the reputation overseas with the tune. I understand that they designed it that way for more airflow but it looks ugly in my opinion. A hood scoop or cone filter would do the same thing without the ugly front. In my opinion.

    Mate be content with your Rogue. It’s a great looking Ute. It’s got what most would want in a new Ute and it’s going to take you most places that you’d want to go. Sure some extra power/torque and a bit more height is always useful but I think the telling factor is going to be how much more will you need to spend to get one.

    • @NorthOz
      @NorthOz  Год назад +1

      Absolutely. And for an extra $5-10k I don’t think it’s worth it at all. It actually looks like a cheaper model in the lineup from that rear shot I showed. What are your thoughts on the look of it? Maybe it’s just me haha

    In my understanding - Toyota is in the process of developing a new generation of Hilux. When they launch the generation the GR version should get proper stand-alone features ( Such as engine, suspension &, etc). I think Toyota is just testing the waters to see what people think of the path they are in. I think we will see the new-gen in a year or two. I think your purchase is perfect. Love the color. Hi Tim. I can confirm the sr5 has a smaller wheel track than the rogue but the gr has a wider track than the rogue. As one commenter said, it could be in the wheels with a more negative offset rim. I don’t think they would re-engineer a whole axle and diff assembly etc just for the gr

    “Just take it to a shop to get tuned” … could I very humbly suggest that you might also want to mention that you would void tens of thousands of dollars worth of engine, transmission and drivetrain warranty.
    I suspect that the Toyota engineers should know what they are doing and you are covered, and If you want more power and torque the extra $10k for not just that, would ultimately be worth it … admittedly, the past DPF issues were a major cock-up, possibly at the hands of internal bean counters and not the actual engineers!

      @@NorthOz 165kw and 550nw from 1,600 to 2,800 RPM with 90% of total total torque just off idle, should make the GR a very pleasant drive in most situations, with so much useable torque where you need it and I think that’s what they are aiming for … just a little more to hit that sweet spot.
      On paper at least, the GR looks more usable and less stressed than the diesel ranger V6. The Ranger needs the 10 speed auto because of its “peaky” and fleeting torque just to win bragging rights to highest figures.
      I totally agree that these are not “race cars” and if that’s what people want, than just buy a Supra and take it to Ray Hall in Cairns 😉 or buy a TRD Hilux or Raptor.
      Anyway, I certainly don’t think you make a mistake buying the updated Rogue, it looks great and should be a reliable rig for you. Looking forward to more videos - cheers 🍻
