Taking Delivery of My New 2023 79 Series Landcruiser // First Drive and Initial Thoughts
Mate! That’s a beautiful car
Bought mine new 2013 update still have it. I really like the 1grfe it tows 2t quite happily, the economy is similar to my 79/200
I'm sure you will explain more in your next video but don't understand why you would buy an FJ Cruiser as a tow vehicle. Only has 2250kg tow capacity but the worse thing is they only have 510kg payload. With you, the dog and some tow ball weight there won't be much left for luggage or any accessories.
Finally! Welcome to the club
your steering wheel is on the Wong side.
FJ was a real landcuiser back in the day helped build our country , full chassis , big motor and 2 diffs , this new thing is realy a prado with different styling , off cause it wasn't realy going to suit the real landcuiser fans and buyers im amazed they still make prados , but then city folks still need a 4x4 SUV i guess and pretend its a landcuiser because off a chrome badge on back , but i like the look off your FJ would bee a nice vehicle to buzz around in and should be reliable , its a Toyota 👍
Mate why you change cars so fast? Prado->hilux-> 79-> FJ???
I like cars too much mate. Can’t stop haha 😂 Still got the 79 though
@@NorthOz let me guess your next car : 4 cylinder 76 series. 😀
I always thought these were as ugly as a hat full of arsehole's but they have grown on me and yes I would buy one, look forward to the next video mate.
Have u seen that one that was chopped and extended to a ute? It looks grouse as
good luck
Thanks mate
What temperature is so cold Mark? I just rode my bike18km at 7.00 pm in 2 feels like minus 3 😂😂😂 bread us tough in Tassie 🎉
Haha I’m not built for that 😂
Whatever happened to the Patrol.
I sold to a young fella who is happily wheeling it. I see everyday on the road on my way back from work 👍
Yeah mate I was herring all this good stuff about the fj cruisers then they were no more ?
Yeah it’s crazy. The sales died off and Toyota killed it. Can’t imagine why. I think at that time everyone wanted something new and the FJ was a classic revived that wasn’t appreciated by the masses. Big 6 cylinder, 4wd and retro styling wasn’t appealing to everyone I’d say. Such a shame
Nice 👍
Thanks mate 👍
The Legendary FJ Cruiser. It truly is a modern Classic. Congratulations 🎉🍾
Thanks mate! I’m loving it so far. So easy to drive but definitely has a special feeling about it
Did you consider a Rav4?
Haha!
I did but I wanted something with a transfer case and something easy to modify. Love the RAV4’s and will probably get one some day
😊😊
👍
Hello Mr Fernandez
Steel bullbar will destroy your front end, cracked chassis, broken shock mounts etc. I ll stick to alloy.
This is the reason to keep cars simple and keep away from to much tech
Traded the Rogue? 😢😊
Yep 😬
iv hit atleast 10 roos with my ranger, iv slowed down to 50-80 as i hit them. and i have not replaced. the bullbar. there is a small dent at the bottom of the bullbar, if you hit a roo at just 50 without a bar its $5k plus damage. my bullbar has paid for its self 5x over
Haven’t posted in a while mate hoping you and the family are all good!
Hi mate! I’m good thanks. Life has been busy but I have a new video coming out in the next few days. Thank you for your concern. I hope you are well too
@@NorthOz looking forward to it! All the best mate
My stock Prado tire size is 265/60/R18 and it’s due for replacement. Was wondering what would be your recommended size without having any suspension lift or modifications? I’ve been seeing 275/65/R18 and 265/65/R18.
i run a solar business. one thing i did with my 250W standard (7 year old recycled from client) resi panel was use bunnings L brackets and put the panel under the roof racks. in an old 60 cell module this cuts out about 12 cells under each roof rack bar, but the panel still gets up to 175w on clear days. this also allows you to still get full use of roof racks. i never see people do this instead always putting the panels on top and losing all that transport space, dont be afraid to lose power in the panel guys just get more powerful ones. it also sits flush with roof and creates less drag and doesnt effect fuel economy too much. love your vids though mate. want a prado myself soon. so will be reviewing all your work! ps. i also put my battery and inverter system in the front between the two seats and it acts as a third centre seat and perch for my pooch. works well.
Recently talking to driver of a tilt tow truck and I admired a nice looking Ford Ranger approaching us and passing by. The tow truck driver commented, “ Man , I tow more Ford Rangers broken down than any other vehicle”. Say no more! Ihave a new Hilux GR Sport on order through JohnCole Toyota
How about fuel consumption?
It’s 10.5L/100km on average so far over 5000 kms
The Mahindra is not a valid alternative to a LC like you implied. I just got rid of my Mahindra, it is not even 2yo and only has about 30k on the clock and has spent most of its life in the workshop getting warranty claims. The final straw was a major structural fault. The dealer i bought it off for nearly $50k gave me $18k for it in trade after months sitting in their workshop. I by luck got a 79 where the contracted owner could take delivery so i got it zero wait time. What a debacle to get to this point.
Well to answer your dilemma, the correct place for your arm while driving is NOT on the centre console. Both hands should be on the steering wheel which makes the question of where to put your arm moot. Sorry had to say it. Great clip tho.
Regarding the tires I disagree with you. I made 70k kilometres with a stock tires and it became bold because of off road. Also its main disadvantage is that you can’t put a low pressure on it because you can easily damage it especially when you drive on stones or gravel. I switched to BF KO2 and it seems a very good setup for me.
Thanks for the tutorial 👍 Only problem I had was removing the rear panel until I realised that it needed a bit of vertical action to pop it out. Cheers well done 👍👍
Nice work mate!
ive done a exhaust tune and clutch and thats all you need, ive not changed anything else and its been great, its not a never-ending thing, just thoes 3 things and youre set
Nice mate. That sounds like the way to go. I’ve pretty much finished my mods now. Very happy with the setup. New video on the walkaround coming soon 👍
I done the same thing as you traded my 2020 Hilux SR5 for the 2024 V8 Land Cruiser, the first week i was like what have i done ? Now two weeks on I can’t believe how good the Cruiser is, love it!!
They are awesome. They just take a bit of time to adjust to driving 😂
You should re-think your statement of wheel on the back affecting center of gravity, if your dad keeps the extra tank full, his COG will be much lower than yours . And with all add ons on your roof, your COG is definitely much higher than your dad’s
On temu for a fraction of the price and same maker - plus get wall panels
Hilux rugged with the lovells GVM and GMC upgrade is the most reliable and best ute I've ever owned
I have had 3 Hilux s and nothing beats their reliability and they have never let me down. My latest rugged Hilux is the best I would never buy a Ford .
Couldn’t agree more mate 👍
Thank you very much for your review. I am really tempting to buy one after watching your review. May I ask how long is your canopy? I see that there will be a part of the awning where will just hang itself without any support because my canopy is only 1800mm long and I think the whole awning is over 2100 long
Thanks for the comment. My canopy is 1500mm for reference. There are small sections on the ends that overhang without support but my canopy is on the smaller side for a Ute
Bro have you actually sat in a ranger? You are talking about wanting to be able to change climate control using buttons etc - you have pulled up a picture of the ranger that clearly shows it has climate as buttons. Songs stations and volume is done on the steering wheel. I don’t know if your point of comparison is valid here.
I would like to have peoples thoughts about what would sufficient weight and space saving recovery gear. Does a sand anchor justify the space anywhere other than beach driving? When I went along the beach to Vyrila Point on the western side of Cape York, I found that 9 short star stakes through a specially made Tree branch linkage of chains and chain rings, was highly effective. I could also use it just as well to pull my Nissan Patrol up bare rocky slopes. I could move the legs of the chain to find gaps between the rocks. BUT it is now too heavy and with the stakes will take up too much space in my Toyota Troop Carrier. I could make up a similar linkage system with soft shackes and possibly lighter but stronger screw in anchors OR something else. Any thoughts?
Ohh I forgot to mention it’s a gxl and I also own a 75 series 1995 tray back since new my work horse , allways been a cruiser man .😅
The factory snorkel is actually only listed as a raised air intake not actually a snorkel
OF COURSE YOU REGRET IT! The 1VD - V8 cruiser is the worst engine that Toyota has ever built!!!
Can you leave your bedding in when packed down?
Nope. I tried with a thick blanket and didn’t work. It folds up very thin so this isn’t possible
Ordered the 48v, does it have the JBL? Thought they were standard? Great review, the roof top tent got me laughing, that's why we have a separate cab chassis or just order a cab chassis as your daily for modifying & camping etc.
Congrats mate!! JBL are standard but I got mine sooner as it didn’t have the JBL option which required a wait
How does the Izuzu DMax compare?
I have been in a dmax a few times. Great trucks but the amount of beeping and intrusive chimes that happen when driving normally is crazy. I could never own one based on that alone
Great bulbar video but did you install a snorkel?
Not on this vehicle. I did on my hilux and my 79
Interesting comments by all. Thanks. Most Australians live in our capital cities, therefore so do most readers here - including myself. However I'd wonder if those living rurally are more likely to know someone who has died in a vehicle incident. Of those rural fatalities it would be interesting to know what percentage are from head-on, hittng a tree, or rolling a 4WD. In each instance I'd expect that not having a bull-bar would make fatality less likely. For myself, based on "keep-it-light" thinking my 120 is stock. When going remote if I have to drive at night I stick to 80kmh. My only fitted accessories are bash plates and rated recovery points on the front. NB: I'm happy to share my mount design for the sand-flag too - a challenge with no bull-bar and no roof-rack! Rather than a fitted second-battery I have a Bluetti power station. I haven't done a lift either. Last year I did Simpson Dessert via the Madigan Line with no problem. Prior to that Oodnatta Track in it and twice Strzlecki Track. The challenge of climbing the dunes on Madigan's was badly impacted by the carved out wombat holes. Being the lighter vehicle I handled the inevitable bounce of those climbs with more ease than our other vehicle even though I had much lower clearance. One vehicle we passed was a current model Land Cruiser 300 kitted out with everything and it's driver parked for a five day wait for a mechanic to arrive to replace a broken rear shock which had recently been upgraded to Old Man Emu extra HD shocks. He was not pleased. @NorthOz Have you done your remake or addendum yet? Plus one from me for comments of those srefuting your statement that a bull-bar adds to safety. I think there may though be a caveat in regards to factory-fitted bull-bars which have in fact had the engineered crumple zones, the protection shell, and airbag and seatbelt restraint actuator performance all incorporated into their design. I'm less clear if that extends beyond "factory-fitted" to also incorporate OEM...? Three more reasons for your list: (1) resist the marketing of the accessorizing product pushers; (2) #keep-it-light philosophy provides not just a more fuel-efficient vehicle, but also a more capable, reliable, and longterm more durable vehicle for both off-roading and for rough-roading; (3) for serious off-road recovery a hand winch is for more capable and versatile than a fixed bull-bar-mounted electric winch - and only needs to be caried when doing trips that might need recovery. The rest of the time it can sit happily in storage at home. #keep-it-light
You may not be an "expert" but that's probably why your description is so clear and concise Congratulations!!!
