    Thanks for making the video :
    a) Perhaps a sun visor ? We use them and they're great. Less driver fatigue and more relaxing driving.
    b) Your skinny wheels and tyres are perfect. Keep them and don't let anyone change your mind for you. We only use skinny wheels.
    c) Your bullbar is perfect for a set of Fyrlyt halogen spotlights. Made in Australia and better vision at night (and less eye strain as well as greater depth of perception). There's nothing wrong with the Toyota steel bullbar. It's as strong and good as anything from ARB etc.
    d) Yes, the paint is thin. You'll end up with a finger spot next to the key hole where the paint will wear off.
    e) We don't upgrade our 70's suspension. We leave them stock. The factory suspension is good enough 95% of the time.
    Keep it simple and remember that the hire 4wd's get to all the same places as the one's with all the accessories 🙂

    Thanks for the review. Refreshing attitude to mods - only do whats necessary. Its interesting that Toyota fit the skinny 33s to the Workmate and the slightly wider 31s to the GXL (265/70R16). I've often wondered if all the gear ratios are the same between the two models. I have a 76 GXL which still has the original tyres and I can imagine fitting 33s might take the edge off the rock crawling and downhill engine braking performance. But then look at all the Workmates out there getting around happily on the taller tyres! Anyway when it comes to squeaks and squeals in the suspension I find a good pressure wash of the suspension every now and then makes everything quieten down for a while - until it all gets dirty again. Good luck with it!

    I’ve owned three 70 series cruisers (79dc, 79sc and 76) all have had squeaks, creaks, moans, groans and rattles…..was forever chasing noises, it’s a 70 series thing….pulling to the left is also a common problem especially when lifted, front left king pin bearing race needs to be offset to get it driving straight…..some do it some don’t, my dual cab and 76 were lifted 2 inches and never did it however the single cab did after the lift. I found the more I modified the vehicles the more issues I had. Keep em as stock as possible.

      Good advice. Completely agree. I’ll just change the leaf pack and swap out the wheels. Apart from that, should be done ✅

    Hi there Mark, great to see you again.
    Regards from William.
    I think there's still going to make the V8 in the lane Cruiser still, which is good as the second option for some people because they still prefer the V8 to the four cylinder.

    If budget is front of mind with the wheel/tyre set up, why not get some cheap GXL stockies and put 33” AT or MT tyres on them? Would definitely save a few quid not getting aftermarket wheels

    • @NorthOz
      @NorthOz  Месяц назад

      I had thought of the GXL rims but not too keen on the style. Bit flashy for me haha. I’ll probably grab a set of wider steelies and wrap it in a reasonably priced tyre. Also, people want an arm and a leg for their stock wheels here in cairns. Not sure what the go is there

      Fair point but in all fairness, if ford still made a traditional f150 with minimal tech and a coyote engine or Chevy still made their square bodies but with a ls3, how many people would buy it? I know I would. Toyota make a simple vehicle with minimal tech and arguably one of the best engines ever produced by them. I’d buy it again even with the downfalls

    Nice vid. thanks. I have a troopy on order and weighing up the bull and side bars. I heard that once you have the side bars on, it is difficult /impossible to get flares on should you wish to go with wider tyres. You sound happy with the stock thin tyres, but if you changed your mind, could you fit flares without removing the sidebar?

    • @NorthOz
      @NorthOz  Месяц назад +1

      That’s something I’m looking into now. From my rough measurements I don’t see why the flares would be an issue. The flares flare down to its highest point in line with the fender which sits well below the scrub rails. I’ll make a video on it for sure when the time comes if you are happy to wait for that. Congrats on the troopy! That’s on my list but I can’t have them all haha

    Thanks young fellah - I moved to an automatic 2010 Hilux pre-DPF diesel dual cab (now with aluminium canopy setup) and the only tech which I do like is the ABS, cruise control, aircon, central locking, reversing camera and electric mirrors/windows - all this makes it comfortable and quiet to drive for my senior years - absolutely no rust but yes keep an eye for managing yours because I recently saw a 2008 Troopy V8 for $5000 because it was full of rust from chassis to roof - she stated it was never exposed to salt water etc (dry inland station use only) but selling it for parts to try and make up for the $40k write off.

    Nice looking truck and very capable etc but personally i would've stuck with something a bit cheaper.
    What is it that you do with this truck on a daily basis that you couldnt do with a cheaper 4wd...?
    Alot of it seems to be "look at me and my truck" as opposed to something more sensible for every day life.
    To anyone on the market for a 4wd - no you dont need a Landcruiser to go camping or light offroading like Mark does.
    There are definitely cheaper vehicles just as capable that are half the price of this thing.

    • @NorthOz

      Thanks for the comment mate. You bring up some great points. I completely agree the average camper definitely should not go out and spend this kind of money on a 79. 100% agree with you mate. I have to question what part of the clips I showed you and my earlier videos are “light off-roading”. Yes, there were some very seemingly tame clips but most of those were shot on drones that don’t do the landscape justice. Cape York presents a tough challenge and this is built not for rock crawling but for making it through obstacles that the average camper won’t be going to. This is built for cape York and long term touring. Unfortunately my previous vehicles in my Nissans and prado/hilux were not up to the river crossings without running into tech issues with the sensors so I made a decision to go with a simpler vehicle. Also, keep in mind that this cost the same as my hilux. A lot of people think these are “look at me vehicles” but I straight traded my hilux for this (they were both $75k for transparency) and I decided to modify this instead of pursuing the hilux. At the end of the day, I made a choice to be in it $120k in a Landcruiser as opposed to a hilux and I’m happy with this 👍 let me know what you think. Happy to chat as always

    OMG, just listening to your first 3 issues, if I paid what you would have for this car, I would be pissed. I know you love the looks of this car in standard form, but I do agree, a fully ticked out 79 does look very good, but in standard form, you definitely need to be a fanboy.
    I have a 4WD which just about every Toyota fan, no I think nearly all 4 Wheel Drivers hate, a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. I have not had a single issue, no rattles or squeaks and a great 8 speed transmission.
    I have driven a 79 and just could not live with that 5 speed manual, why wouldn't Toyota at least have an auto trans as an option? It's also the number of things you need to change on these cars that I just don't understand.
    As I have said many times, it doesn't matter what I think of the 79, it's what the owners think.

    • @NorthOz
      @NorthOz  Месяц назад

      Thank you for the well articulated response. Much nicer than the other responses I get on my other videos. If the car works what’s the issue? Your jeep sounds like a fantastic car and there are issues with all makes and models. As long as you get out and enjoy it, that’s all that matters. Thanks for watching and subscribing. • @commonsense-grs
      @commonsense-grs 29 дней назад

      @@Mkarim1793 I agree with you, it's really the V8 I'm talking about. These V8 70 series have been on the market for a long time, so Toyota had plenty of time to give an auto trans as a option and fix that terrible 100mm shorter rear track. I know this is what the 70 series is all about but Toyota should have at least given customers the option.

      @@NorthOz it's a pleasure. I love watching all 4 wheel drive videos, even if the car is not my cup of tea. The flak I receive owning a Jeep Grand Cherokee, but it does all I need and at a really great price.
      A lot of 4 wheel drivers just can't afford 6 figure sums for a 4WD and that's why I love watching shows like yours seeing a build coming together.
