I have worn this watch in Iraq and Afghanistan for 2.5 years total....roughly and have not had a single problem. A south African gent had his in Iraq for 7 years. I have seen this on the wrists of at least two Green Berets as well, and can go well over a decade of hard use without a service. Try that with a luxury watch!!!
Its true my dad has a first version of skx003 21 years of runn without maintennace until the gasket for crown adjuster is deteriorated seep in water and watch didnt run...
Someone once said of the Seiko SKX series of watches, "This is not a watch you pass down to your kids. This is a watch you wear to overthrow the government of a small South American country. You're buried with this watch, probably in a ditch next to the road in that small South American country."
I bought my SKX009 17 years ago. I knew absolutely nothing about watches. Had the typical terrible taste of a 14 year old. But I knew that everybody who seems to know watches was raving about this watch, saying how much of an incredible value they were. So I got one. Wore it every day for about 6 years, then off and on for another 5 years or so. I'm not one of these people who wear a watch to my office job. I wore it for every activity imaginable. Used it in the ocean so many times, surfing, open water swimming, cliff jumping. Never washed it off with fresh water after coming out of the ocean. Didn't even know you were supposed to do that. Used it hiking, mountain climbing, snowmobiling. Its been in -32F temperature, and that's without the wind chill. I remember that night. I didn't take my G shock because I didn't trust it in those cold temps. Only trusted my SKX. The rubber strap eventually broke, probably from degrading from sunlight and saltwater. Put it away in the drawer because it had never been serviced, and I want to have the gaskets replaced. Don't want to tempt fate and flood the watch. When I find someone I trust to service it, I'm going to start wearing it again. I don't even have the urge to buy another watch. Nothing I'm finding at any price really compares.
@@fopperer It does have some importance at least for me, because im also 16 years old and im curious if this watch will be appropriate for someone my age. Im currently tempted to get it as my first proper watch (aside from my g-shock). Its good to see someone of my age enjoying the watch.
@@mhaikal173 To be honest I think a Seiko SNKE51 (blue dial version) would be more appropriate for your age as you can easily pull it off with any casual or formal outfits. It's cheaper too. Just speaking from experience as I wore a Seiko SKX (got it from my father as a present) to school 4 years ago and it felt completely out of place. Btw I'm 19 now 🙂.
Why do you think we care about how old you are? This is the second time I've seen you post your age in the comments. Get over yourself man. Well that was a misstatement, you aren't a man yet, still a boy as far as I'm concerned. Rock on.
The main function of a dive watch is to keep track of submersion time and this is done by counting the minutes (not the seconds) with the rotating bezel. Seconds are not important to keep track of in the diving world, so it's not obbligatory to have the second hand tip lumed as we're accostumed to see on many brands. In fact, ISO 6425 standards only states that there must be an indication that the watch it's running in complete darkness, hence the lumed second hand tip or balance. In these models the lume is located at the hand's balance for aesthetics reasons: the lumed lollipop balance doesn't get in the way of the minute markers as it happens with the SKX173, so, in terms of design is much more pleasing to the eye. Great review, by the way. Cheers.
As a former rescue diver , and now a sport diver , you rely in that minute hand , your colored bezel and the lollipop to know that your watch is running . The rest is not important at all ( the date , the day ) matter of fact , the simpler the dial , the better . One thing that almost every dive watch owner ( who don't dive ) ignores is the fact that underwater , colors change as the angle of reflection of light changes ass well . That is why lume is so important . Funny thing is that 90% of the time dive watches wearers , don't dive . Sebastian Torres . Great knowledge , sir . Thank you .
I've bought a SKX007 back in 2009 and have been wearing it daily ever since. It still looks remarkably well for it's age. The Hardlex has two small scratches, but other than that it's all good. Since I bought it I had it serviced only once about 6 months ago (sorry about that) and it never gave me any trouble. From my experience there are only two downsides to it: 1.The Jubilee bracelet that it came with sucks royally!!! 2. Setting the watch to run as accurately as possible is according to the guy who serviced it a major pain in the ass because one tiny little twist makes a massive difference. When I first laid eyes on a SKX007, the very one I ended up buying in Thailand, I fell hopelessly in love, and that love is still going strong. There's just something about the way it looks that really attracts me, although in recent months there's a new contender on the creepy-come-up. The H20 Kalmar 2 or the Kalmar 2 OT SE really do strike my fancy. We'll see what the future brings. Maybe you could do a video on them in the future? By the way, I love your channel!
Sorry but that is BS. If you are an polar explorer you should at least be able to tell the differences between 24 hours by yourself. If not than you will face the same problem for the remaining 23 hours with the date being in position. So what is the point.
The balance is lumed up because when diving it's more noticeable/easier to check that your watch is still running. All it's for is to make sure it's running, and therefore your bezel twist to time yourself is still accurate. Which in turn lets you know when to ascend for safety stops etc. According to my uncle who is a dive master. Other than that it's just different I guess
You are the ULTIMATE Seiko ambassador! Great show and love the positive energy that you emit. p.s. I think you put your finger on the issue with those - modding makes them so much more desirable.
I bought several Orients because I never would've thought the SKX would be discontinued. I bought SKX009J today for roughly $320 because I didn't want to miss out on having this iconic piece in my collection.
Got myself a SKX007J this month, been wearing it almost everyday, more wrist time than my rolex, love this piece, thinking of getting the 009 pepsi too, thanks for ur superb review!
You’ve talked me into it: I’ve sold a Casio Edifice and a quartz Seiko I had and I’ve ordered an SKX 009 with “Pepsi” dial and some NATO straps with the proceeds. Keep up the great work with your channel.
I bougth a 009 and arrived today! I though about it a year ago... But held back! Very happy I choose to buy one! Keep up the good job TGV! Respect from Romania!
If your SKX is low on "spring juice" you can make the second hand stop with the crown. Just "pause" the time setting rotation, or reverse a little. I managed the second hand to run backwards with this method. I'm not sure if its healthy for the movement or not, I only used once, when I adjusted my watch to the atomic clock. Personally, my SKX007 keeps absolutely outsanding time. +/- 1 or 2 seconds a day witch can be adjusted by overnight placement. I'm so pleased with it. I have a little "trick". Before going bed I check if its running slow or fast. If its running slow I place it with face up or down. If its running fast I place it on it's side, with crown up or down. Or even vertical, laying the face to "wall" or something. It works for me so well. I simply just LOVE my SKX007. A fantastic watch I will never sell. Thank you for the video, I really enjoyed it.
The method is called "backpressure method" or back hacking", I read around on the Internet it is not harmful to the movement if it is used to only stop the second hand, it can be harmful if it is used to make the hand travel backwards.
I really admire your Style ! Many thanks! I just ordered an SKX007 online! I’ve been wanting this Watch for such a long time. Soon, i’m going to have one. Better late than never!
Okay, I mentioned another video that I didn't like Seiko watches, but now I'm totally in love with this skx007 and I'm going to buy one now. Thank you for changing my mind. I'm a new dedicated subscriber to your Channel and can't get enough of your videos. Very appreciative!
I had my eyes on the 009 for more than a decade already. I saved up to buy it, but always ended up getting something else. Couple of years ago, I walked out of a watch dealer with a monster instead of the 009. But two months ago, while visiting a watch dealer, I saw a nos 009. My wife, knowing me too well, sternly oedered to box and pack the 009 and she paid for it using my card! If it wasn't for her quick decision, I might have walked out with a turtle or sumo, but I'm really glad she ended my decade long flirting with this legendary skx. Today, it's been on my wrist for 2 months already and I wish I had gotten it sooner. But I know, if I had gotten it sooner, I'd be flirting with the momster. Lol. Btw, I love watching your reviews, even if I was watching re-runs.
Yep. I've had my SKX013 for 23 years. ! service only. Rugged. Never take it off. Use it for surfing, working, dressing. Mesh bracelet. Yes it does loose time varyingly and even stop sometimes. I think the lube has dried up🙂
I purchased an SKX009 in 2015 as a High-school student. Wore it daily, SCUBA diving, and everything in between. I gave the watch a bit of a break for a couple years and returned to it summer of 2018 as a robust watch to wear while working as an engineering cadet aboard a merchant ship. Unfortunately I managed to damage the movement while working in the engine room and still need to bring it to a watchmaker to have it fixed as I miss wearing very much. Hope to have stock and modded SKX's in my collection one day.
reason for balance lume on the seconds hand in my opinion is partly design for a narrow seconds hand, but without sacrificing the need for a divers watch to show that it is still running even in the murky dark depths/at night - so although its tricky to count seconds you can tell if its ticking or not at night .
I Just placed my order on a SKX007. Recently bought a Citizen NY0040 Promaster. All thx to Your fantastic reviews. Thx for a great channel keep up the good work . Cheers from Gothenburg,Sweden.
Good one TGV - the Seiko SKX watches have that strange, undefinable quality of _likeability_ in spades. I have yet to meet a watch fan of any level that didn't at least admit that it is one of the most - if not *the* most - bang for the buck timepieces on the market. Iconic indeed!
Thanks to for heling me make a decision. I always felt the skx was the perfect watch. But after endless rewatching of your videos.... I bought one. Just shy of a year now, it still leaves me in awe. It has a priceless design that says 'you appreciate both style and quality'. Once purchased, I could never put my Invicta Sub on my wrist again. Thanks I appreciate your effort on these videos.
Been searching for a quality watch for a long time. Came across your channel, and I'm glad I did. This watch is function over form, but I think it's still beautiful, even in it's simplicity. This is the watch I have been searching for, that you don't find just wandering through stores with people trying to sell you expensive crap. Thanks for your time, your insight, and your no nonsense realistic views. I appreciate it. I am a mechanical fiend. Anything that moves, and uses or creates power, has always fascinated me. I am a Diagnostic Diesel Technician. Watches are something mechanical that I can value every time I look at my wrist, and I have been wanting something nice. Subscribed.
My personal opinion (based on my own experiences) Cons - ● Very weak power reserve. ● Missaligned chapter rings (I got one with that issue) ● 22 mm lug distance. 20 mm would be much better, less bulky ● kinda shitty bracelet ;D Pro's + ♡ Definitely a classic as you said ♡ Not an homage, 100% genuine design ♡ It is literally a tank. I had dropped this watch accidentaly many times in various places it didn't even get a scratch. ♡ Hardlex crystal. It is really durable. ♡ Certified diver's watch. ♡ Definitely an eye-catcher. ... Totally badass watch! ;D
I've been watching a few months now, and I too bought a SKX013! This doesn't happen by accident. Great youtube channel, great Seiko watch, and money well spent.
TGV I believe the PIP is on the balance to allow larger lume application. ISO requires being able to only tell if watch is running - not knowing what second it is.
I've watched so many of your videos and I've heard you mention the SKX007 so many times that I finally cracked and ordered my first SKX007 and I'm very excited! You're the man! Keep up the great vids!
Nothing horogically better than becoming interested in a watch, then searching and finding you have already made multiple videos on it. Thanks brotato.
I have the Pepsi j model with a jubilee bracelet and the watch just work's, I smack it on stuff, hunt and swim and it has never failed me. I get more complements on it than more expensive watches 👍👍
Your enthusiasm shines through! I don’t think you could have tried to do this in a monotone, not to mention the very Italian use of your hands when talking about how much you love these watches. Great video, I am late to your channel and going back and watching all the old work. You have me sold on a Seiko Flighty
for my birthday, I decided to 1. buy a new watch for once, having done my share of Invicta's and Gshocks on the 2nd hand market, and 2. buy my first automatic watch so I picked up the SKX007 from LIWC. Other than now to purchase a more substantial bracelet, I am thrilled with it. Swapping out NATOs in the week since I picked it up. Thank you, Govenor, because watching reviews on the SKX from you and Fredrico convinced me to go with this one. Cheers~
"Its fun and that's what it's all about" . Exactly right TGV. Mustn't lose sight of that. And celebrate the fact that we're all different and we all like different things. That's what makes watch collecting so enjoyable. I love these seikos. I bought my first in my teens, along with a Seiko speedtimer! wish i'd kept them!!!
I have to give you credit for introducing me to this lovely timepiece. I don't like to cal it a beater watch. That's too derogatory. It's a great everyday piece. It's tough, unconcerned with status and works like a champ. On your arm it feels like you can tackle anything. Thanks TGV.
Bought my 5H26-7A10 in 1983. Used it for diving and many other outdoor sports. Keeps perfect time, the only adjustment is when there is a time/date change. The only service is a new battery every few years.
talk about coincidences... I am about to purchase the skx009 soon and TGV posts this. Awesome video as always, great content m8, really can't thank you enough for what you do.
Very useful vid. I learned a number of things. It's clear you're an inveterate collector, not only from your watches and figures, but from the beautiful art collection that flashes by on your screen saver. I love snagging arresting images from the web and would raptly watch a vid about how you choose and accumulate these. Keep up the great work. I joined your site yesterday and lust for the five watch collection. Bought my first Seiko in Tokyo in 1970.
Don't quote me on this but I believe the lume on the second hand is placed as a sort of counter balance. This allows Seiko to apply a greater amount of lume. I think it makes sense for it's purpose which is to quickly tell whether or not the watch is running during a dive whereas the dive time is based off the gigantic minute hand. I don't know if my assumption is right or wrong but to me it makes sense.
Yes, ISO 6425 requires possibility to tell if watch is running in total darkness. I think that using this indicator as a counter balance for a long second hand is quite a nice touch to this watch.
I've had a healthy watch obsession since I was 9 years old. I love all watches. I thoroughly enjoy your channel. You're just so damn likeable. Most watch reviews annoy me. I'd hang and talk watches with you anytime. Keep the vids coming.
Great list of pros and cons. For the money, you just can't beat it. You were right on the money regarding buying a fashion watch or a real watch. Fashion watches end up in the junk drawer years later and you can't believe you wore the thing so many years ago. Not so with the Seiko diver. The SKX is built like a tank and will last a lifetime with minimal maintenance. Even though its an entry level watch, I'd feel proud to leave it to my son when I pass on along with my Rolex and other pieces. I just bought my son the reissue SRT775 Turtle for his 18th birthday to get his collection going. Was tempted to buy him the SKX but was happy to spend a few more bucks on him. I have a 7002 7009 which predeeded the SKX. Great watch that I bought in my first year in the US Navy in 1989. Still in ln near new condition due to rotating it with digital Ironmans that took the real beating. Anyway, the only issue I have with the SKX, if you can even call it an issue, is the actual location of the crown on the SKX. Its not exactly at the 4 O'clock like the 7002 is. Maybe it's my OCD but you just can't unsee it. It seems a bit un-Seiko to have it slightly off the 4 O'clock like that. Other than that great watch and video. Look forward to seeing more of your stuff.
This guy's always smiling and laughing, and on top of it all, he's a gentleman. I wasn't even into watches, he charmed me : ) And I'm a straight male by the way. And I now own a watch. happy days
I have yet to purchase a watch that cost more than $50 but I'm definitely considering this piece due to its functionality, versatility, and reputation.
My skx has gone 15 years before it's first service, I only had it serviced as I chipped the crystal so I got it serviced at the same time. would be still going strong now if I never I'm sure.
You sir made me buy a SKX009, SARB033 and now eyeing an Alpinist. I wonder which other brand I would buy with 3 watches on hand. I hope Seiko acknowledges your love for their watches. Honestly every time I put on my watches I remember your passion for these watches and I say, "Well, Tristano loves it so much so one guy in this world would always compliment it".
I have to say I have grown to love watches in part thanks to your videos. I started my collection with my fathers citizen quartz day/date , this along with your videos I must say I have developed a new hobby. Keep up the great work.
Just ordered a SKX007J1 from Creation. It will be going to Paul at Tempus watch mods here in the UK for modding just as soon as I finalise what is to be fitted. This fella is a perfectionist and is simply the best at what he does & his work is of the highest order.
There are hundreds of things one could say about the SKXs, but at the end of the day it's a watch that will never let you down, its character grows as you do, and you will never question why you bought it.
Just received my Skx009K2 a few days ago, on your recommendation! The plan is to go full Robert Redford with a navy-blue nato. Also got my SNKK47 the week before! Dammit TGV, my wallet has suffered since I've discovered your channel XD Gotta say I love both watches! And they seem to get more time on my wrist then my Aqua Terra, strangely..
My biggest love: The (SK)X-Factor. I can wear it for 10 days without thinking about it and on day 11 I look at it and am in awe of the design. My biggest hate: Not hackable. Bit of both: the Jubilee bracelet. I hate to love it and love to hate it at the same time. Great video, thank you!
No better time to buy in that case! I wonder if the price will explode? Thank Luca, just out of interest, where did you find this out? Best regards, TGV
I was discussing this topic here on RUclips earlier this year, and someone recalled a Seiko official disclosing in 2016 that the SKX is still being produced, albeit in small irregular runs, and is being phased out.
im a seiko distributor to my country. SKX K is still being produced ( i cannot tell about the JDM version). it was halted for a while (Seiko need to promote their new turtle). But now it is still being produced even the SKX013
After becoming extremely interested in watches at the beginning of summer, I have finally purchased my first Automatic... the 007. Gets here in 2 days. I'm so stoked
For hacking and manual wind, save a few more dollars and go with the monster series. I've got a second gen orange monster that never leaves my wrist. Great video.
Funny that I went opposite way. My orange monster now rests in peace and new SKX007 is ony my wrist. In my opinion it is rather hard to compare these two watches and me personally I have completely different feeling of them. Absence of hacking is no problem for me but I would welcome the manual winding. On the other hand it is like the watch always pleases you: "wear me..." To me the SKX007 is so appealing and easily has become my daily beater.
This was the video I watched back in 2017 that inspired me to buy my first ever watch and it was the skx009, which I still wear today. I can't believe how much they have gone up in price.
Much respect to your channel. Your enthusiasm and knowledge elevates this youtube experience to another level. So much to appreciate, we are so happy to find your channel and to be able to at least remotely join you on your watch & life style experience . . . we love your channel Tristano ( me and my wife) and look forward to more. . . . Can you please elaborate more on the full black version with green strap where from/how much . . ? Love and respect from Prague. Mike
Just purchased a SKX013K1 (the midsize). Time to order a couple 20mm NATOs. I own an Oris Divers 65, but I don't feel comfortable wearing that while changing the oil in the truck, etc. Excited to have an automatic with class for just $200 that I can bang around. Thanks for the great review TGV!
I’m very late to the party as I know this is an old video. But I am a new viewer and just getting into watches! Based on your videos i bought a SKX013 in great shape for $182 out the door. Thanks TGV and great videos!
I really like my two SKXs. My first is an SKX031. 3 o'clock screw-down crown. It has a nice silver surrounding the day/date window and the indices. My other is an SKX035 - very much like the 009 and 007, but with a really cool yellow dial and chapter ring with rectangular indices - again with the silver surrounds, and a really cool popsicle seconds hand. When the 035 started showing signs of age I was vacillating over having the 7s26 movement serviced or replacing it with the ubiquitous NH36. I decided to keep it original and actually sent it to Seiko USA for servicing. I just got it back (only took about 10 days) and love it even more since it's been serviced, polished, resealed, water-tested, and the movement is adjusted to about 3 seconds a day. You can't wear the yellow with everything, but I do wind up buying more yellow for my wardrobe than I would have normally! :-)
Just got my first skx. I always skipped over and went for the more expensive divers but since they don't make them anymore I knew I needed to get one. I really think this watch will be very valuable one day
I agree on the Hardlex becoming dirty pretty fast. None of my other Seikos have that issue (even the modest Seiko 5 entry level). I wanted to point out that the QC issue might be solved by buying a made in Japan one, mine has no alignment issue whatsoever and I bought it from creation watches when they still had some. I'm tempted to buy another one to mod it planet ocean style. (Because I have other watch purchases planned before getting a planet ocean, which will be a few years in the coming) _ I'd have added that the strap/bracelet it comes with is pretty poor, ther strapcode Oyster bracelet is a good replacement option, not solid endings but solid links and a pretty good clasp.
Excellent comment and points made. As for the QC in the J versions, there was a ton a response in the comments on my old J vs. K video so you might be right. Thank you, Best regards, TGV
Just ordered a skx009j can’t wait to add it to the collection as I don’t normally go for divers / spots watches so didn’t want to go high end on this one great coverage on the skx range cheers
Hi TGV!!! Thanks for the great review on the loves and hates of the SKX!! I must say that I feel the same about my SKX but that aside I've found that everything seems to line up perfectly and the movement keeps excellent time and I dont find that the crystal looks smudged all the time. On the contrary, it always looks clear. I'm glad that the question has been answered for me about the lume pip on the balance of the second hand. I could never understand why they did this until now thanks to Michael Domschot's explanation!! Little niggles aside I love my SKX to bits!! Please keep the excellent shows coming. I love love love them. Many thanks.
Very pleasant coincidence that i am considering to buy a skx 007 as a first automatic watch and this video pops up as i am watching your other videos about the watch. I am now entirely sure that i am going to buy one. Thank you!
I now know that the watch my dad wore was a black SKX (rubber strap with the curved lines) from seeing his old photos. At the time when I was a child I had no idea of course. Dad bought this watch at a military base when he was training as a soldier (Discounts were applied to such items when bought at the base). He worn it throughout his military career across many combat missions, and amongst other things that are better left unsaid. As you stated in the video, he tells me this watch was an absolute workhorse. He gave the watch to his younger brother as a gift when he left the army and to move abroad with our family. Unfortunately, he's not on good terms with this brother, and no one knows where the watch is now... The things I'd do just to get this watch because of the sentimental value attached to it... I'd pick it over a Rolex any day.
Seiko is where so many begin their journey. They look cool and are well made. Many are bought by young men who take them to middle age and beyond. One of the best bits of advice came to me from a gentleman who said "Every man deserves a good watch".How very true.Appreciate a watch and you appreciate life.
they put the lume on the counter balance is because you only need to know that your watch is working when you're diving, it's not a racing watch, so the seconds is not matter that much
I have a SKX023 and love it, mainly because of its smaller size. Some will not accept it as a true divers watch as it is 'only' 10 bar waterproof. BTW even though the 7s26 does not hack, you can stop the second hand by putting pressure on the crown anti-clockwise.
I have worn this watch in Iraq and Afghanistan for 2.5 years total....roughly and have not had a single problem. A south African gent had his in Iraq for 7 years. I have seen this on the wrists of at least two Green Berets as well, and can go well over a decade of hard use without a service. Try that with a luxury watch!!!
circuscase Rolex submariners and gmts have been known to do that, but nothing can compare to the price of the SKX.
Its true my dad has a first version of skx003 21 years of runn without maintennace until the gasket for crown adjuster is deteriorated seep in water and watch didnt run...
But still only iverhaul and my watch is back on track
@Timothy Mckee for real
Now try wearing it in a south american country while overthrowing the government!
(see comment of Karl Krogmann in this comment section)
Someone once said of the Seiko SKX series of watches, "This is not a watch you pass down to your kids. This is a watch you wear to overthrow the government of a small South American country. You're buried with this watch, probably in a ditch next to the road in that small South American country."
LOL, Genius!!!!
Love it Karl, thank you for sharing that.
Best regards,
TGV
CIA watch?
Karl Krogmann hahah that's fantastic
Your comment pushed me over the edge. Watch is on its way. Cheers!
You will not be disappointed. I've owned three SKXs in 17 years and they have all been outstanding.
I bought my SKX009 17 years ago. I knew absolutely nothing about watches. Had the typical terrible taste of a 14 year old. But I knew that everybody who seems to know watches was raving about this watch, saying how much of an incredible value they were. So I got one.
Nothing I'm finding at any price really compares.
how about a rolex?
Why spend thousands more to do the same job and have as much style?
I've had my SKX for just over 4 months now, I'm 16 and it is my first watch, I absolutely love it! Sooo glad I didn't opt for a fashion quartz watch.
your age is so important
Rock on.
I got a Armani watch for my 21st. Now I own about 10 watches bit I regret asking for that one
Cheers.
Makes sense, thank you so much for taking the time to share that.

Thank you .
Have the second hand lumed is the MOST IMPORTANT thing ... because it tells you that the watch is running !!!!
Huge respect to TGV for actually taking inputs from your fans with the subtitle that is finally here.
Cheers from Indonesia!
Thank you my friend, highly appreciated.
Best regards,
TGV
I've bought a SKX007 back in 2009 and have been wearing it daily ever since. It still looks remarkably well for it's age. The Hardlex has two small scratches, but other than that it's all good. Since I bought it I had it serviced only once about 6 months ago (sorry about that) and it never gave me any trouble. From my experience there are only two downsides to it:
1.The Jubilee bracelet that it came with sucks royally!!!
The slow date change is useful for polar explorers to tell if it's pm or am.
Ivan Horvat interesting explanation
On the outside of their jackets.. Like pilots.
Very good point!!
that's really smart
Thank you Tim.
Seiko is the ultimate "Gateway" brand, the watch industry will thank me later ;-)

I have an overwhelming urge to drink Brandy and smoke fine cigars with this man.
You've got a good wife right there!!
She’s a keeper, and welcome to the club.
Yep. I've had my SKX013 for 23 years. ! service only. Rugged. Never take it off. Use it for surfing, working, dressing. Mesh bracelet. Yes it does loose time varyingly and even stop sometimes. I think the lube has dried up🙂
The SKX007 is my do all watch. Change the strap and it's ready for my next adventure or fancy dinner. Thanks the vid, roll the intro!
I really love your reviews, it feels like we are sitting in the same room.
thank's a lot.
Subscribed.
My personal opinion (based on my own experiences)
Cons -
● Very weak power reserve.
● Missaligned chapter rings (I got one with that issue)
● 22 mm lug distance. 20 mm would be much better, less bulky
● kinda shitty bracelet ;D
Pro's +
♡ Definitely a classic as you said
♡ Not an homage, 100% genuine design
♡ It is literally a tank.
Makes totally sense, I wonder why they did just put a bigger lume pip on the tip?!
Thank you Michael,
Best regards,
TGV
No idea - Maybe it's just aesthetics :). They do it on snk809 too.
The Urban Gentry what about the Stargate?
Plus it's kinda pointless to have it display seconds on such 'unacurate' watch.
This might explain it, mate
www.thewatchsite.com/21-japanese-watch-discussion-forum/20133-seiko-dive-watches-second-hand-lume-wrong-end.html
I've watched so many of your videos and I've heard you mention the SKX007 so many times that I finally cracked and ordered my first SKX007 and I'm very excited! You're the man! Keep up the great vids!
Just bought a SKX013... 30 seconds ago!
Congrats! Thank you Daquan.
Best regards,
TGV
So do you still like it?
How is it man?
and what do you think about this watch after 2 years ?
It has been two years hows your skx?
Nothing horogically better than becoming interested in a watch, then searching and finding you have already made multiple videos on it. Thanks brotato.
For me the best RUclips channel ever and I mean this really! Regards from Dubai. Erik
Thank you so much Erik, I am deeply honoured.
Best regards,
TGV
I have the Pepsi j model with a jubilee bracelet and the watch just work's, I smack it on stuff, hunt and swim and it has never failed me. I get more complements on it than more expensive watches 👍👍
You got me into moding my watches. Sold my Tag Heuer (POS) and going all Seiko. Thank you.
Matt Frank I sold my Tag too haha
Your enthusiasm shines through! I don’t think you could have tried to do this in a monotone, not to mention the very Italian use of your hands when talking about how much you love these watches. Great video, I am late to your channel and going back and watching all the old work. You have me sold on a Seiko Flighty
I wish they would make a GMT SKX. Then it would be perfect for me. I still love my SKX's.
OMG, that would be AMAZING!!!!!!!
Thank you Karl,
Best regards,
TGV
for my birthday, I decided to 1. buy a new watch for once, having done my share of Invicta's and Gshocks on the 2nd hand market, and 2. buy my first automatic watch so I picked up the SKX007 from LIWC. Other than now to purchase a more substantial bracelet, I am thrilled with it. Swapping out NATOs in the week since I picked it up. Thank you, Govenor, because watching reviews on the SKX from you and Fredrico convinced me to go with this one. Cheers~
My SKX007 arrived today, so this video came out just in time :) it's my first diver :)
Hooray!
Enjoy.
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
"Its fun and that's what it's all about" . Exactly right TGV. Mustn't lose sight of that. And celebrate the fact that we're all different and we all like different things. That's what makes watch collecting so enjoyable. I love these seikos. I bought my first in my teens, along with a Seiko speedtimer! wish i'd kept them!!!
Iconic watch and great review. Every man should own at least one of these SKXs.
I bought my skx009k2 yesterday. Thanks for the review. I love your channel
TGV,
I agree with your comments. It's a great watch. I actually have two of them. A SKXA35 and a SKX009. They are two of my favorite watches.
Thank you Wayne, very worthy faves, enjoy my friend!
Best regards,
TGV
I have to give you credit for introducing me to this lovely timepiece. I don't like to cal it a beater watch. That's too derogatory. It's a great everyday piece. It's tough, unconcerned with status and works like a champ. On your arm it feels like you can tackle anything. Thanks TGV.
Adding the SKX007 to my collection, it will sit alongside my Steinhart Ocean One.
Ocean one GMT pepsi on an Steinhart original rubber strap .
Bought my 5H26-7A10 in 1983. Used it for diving and many other outdoor sports. Keeps perfect time, the only adjustment is when there is a time/date change. The only service is a new battery every few years.
This intro always cheers me up :)
Thank you, Sir!
Thank you so much and in turn, that made my day! :D
Best regards,
TGV
talk about coincidences... I am about to purchase the skx009 soon and TGV posts this. Awesome video as always, great content m8, really can't thank you enough for what you do.
An absolute pleasure, congrats on the SKX, enjoy!
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
I'm 19 and the SKX009 is my goal for this year. Love it!
I hope you reach it!
Thank you Jakub, good luck.
Best regards,
TGV
i'm 18 and just bought the SKX009 :D
Johannes Bagdi hey Jakub,
Did u end up getting it? If yes, do u like it?
It has been 2 years, did you get it?
it's 3 years how.. still no?
Thank you, very interesting point. I could certainly understand if that was the motivation.
Nice one Clint.
Best regards,
TGV
Yes,
ISO 6425 requires possibility to tell if watch is running in total darkness.
Keep the vids coming.
the 013 looks more attractive as it has longer lugs in relation to the 007/9
Great list of pros and cons.
Thank you FB, that's what its all about! enjoy.
Best regards,
TGV
You sir made me buy a SKX009, SARB033 and now eyeing an Alpinist. I wonder which other brand I would buy with 3 watches on hand. I hope Seiko acknowledges your love for their watches. Honestly every time I put on my watches I remember your passion for these watches and I say, "Well, Tristano loves it so much so one guy in this world would always compliment it".
the lume pip on the second hand is there to tell you that the movement is still working in the dark so when your diving.
Indeed, but why on the counter balance?!
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
just to annoy you gov :-D
Because Seiko knew it would create a debate on youtube !
ISO 6425 Standart
I have to say I have grown to love watches in part thanks to your videos. I started my collection with my fathers citizen quartz day/date , this along with your videos I must say I have developed a new hobby. Keep up the great work.
9:14 amazing work! love the new aesthetics. Need a tutorial for a mod like this!
Just ordered a SKX007J1 from Creation. It will be going to Paul at Tempus watch mods here in the UK for modding just as soon as I finalise what is to be fitted. This fella is a perfectionist and is simply the best at what he does & his work is of the highest order.
Love my 007. Does have slight miss alignment on chapter ring that bothers me a bit but I'll get it sorted. The case shape and fit is excellent.
An easy fix and so worth it ;-)
Thank you Matthew.
Best regards,
TGV
There are hundreds of things one could say about the SKXs, but at the end of the day it's a watch that will never let you down, its character grows as you do, and you will never question why you bought it.
Just received my Skx009K2 a few days ago, on your recommendation! The plan is to go full Robert Redford with a navy-blue nato. Also got my SNKK47 the week before!
Dammit TGV, my wallet has suffered since I've discovered your channel XD
Gotta say I love both watches!
Just got a skx009 with a upgraded strap and domed sapphire crystal 😍😍😍
Where from?
@@matanbenhaim9706 from Long island watches there really good !! He has a RUclips channel I think even the urban Gentry uses this website !
"Only time will tell".. haha I saw what you did there! Great video, loving the channel
The only real bad thing about the SKXs is that they're approaching the end of their production! :(
No better time to buy in that case!
I wonder if the price will explode?
Thank Luca, just out of interest, where did you find this out?
Best regards,
TGV
I was discussing this topic here on RUclips earlier this year, and someone recalled a Seiko official disclosing in 2016 that the SKX is still being produced, albeit in small irregular runs, and is being phased out.
im a seiko distributor to my country. SKX K is still being produced ( i cannot tell about the JDM version). it was halted for a while (Seiko need to promote their new turtle). But now it is still being produced even the SKX013
Are you 100% sure? Has Seiko confirmed they're not going to stop the production?
Are you 100% sure they're going to stop production then?
I bought my SKX009 off the back of one of your videos, love it and all that you produce. Thanks TVG
Now discontinued. RIP Legend
Tristano, this video ranks in the top five SKX videos on RUclips, out of maybe 1000 of those. Great job.
Thank you so much :D
How very kind of you sir!
Best regards,
TGV
Pulled the trigger last night here in Hong Kong. First watch purchase and I can't stop staring at it!
YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!
Excellent thinking, thank you sir.
Best regards,
TGV
Or the turtle! Just picked up an SRP775 (black/gold) and love it.
I have the srp313 black with red hands and I respect this watch as well, it is a chunkier look but also excellent. I hold the SKX009 in high regard.
But some people actually habe eye sight
This was the video I watched back in 2017 that inspired me to buy my first ever watch and it was the skx009, which I still wear today. I can't believe how much they have gone up in price.
Very excited to get an 013 this summer! Another great video TGV :)
PERFECT for summer!!!
Enjoy.
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
So do I. Longisland watches is still stocked and prepped to ship. ;) can't wait... Have to, though. ;)
Mike
Bought a Casio Duro because of your Beater Watch video. Next step is the 009. The long term goal is a Sub. 👍
You can't go wrong with your excellent choices my friend, enjoy!
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
Just purchased a SKX013K1 (the midsize). Time to order a couple 20mm NATOs. I own an Oris Divers 65, but I don't feel comfortable wearing that while changing the oil in the truck, etc. Excited to have an automatic with class for just $200 that I can bang around. Thanks for the great review TGV!
Still haven't got an SKX, I kind of feel like I'm missing out on something amazing! Great video TGV!
I’m very late to the party as I know this is an old video. But I am a new viewer and just getting into watches! Based on your videos i bought a SKX013 in great shape for $182 out the door. Thanks TGV and great videos!
Such a great, versatile watch. Love it! Looking forward to this one, TGV. :)
Thank you sir :D
Best regards,
TGV
Great video. Love any video to do with skx's keep them coming
Thank you my friend :D
Best regards,
TGV
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
Just ordered a skx009j can’t wait to add it to the collection as I don’t normally go for divers / spots watches so didn’t want to go high end on this one great coverage on the skx range cheers
Please do a Tour of your study/Library
Another great video TGV.Also can i ask,(for reference), what is your wrist size?
Sure, 6.25.
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
Yet again, thanks for the reply friend
Very pleasant coincidence that i am considering to buy a skx 007 as a first automatic watch and this video pops up as i am watching your other videos about the watch. I am now entirely sure that i am going to buy one. Thank you!
now, I'm more determined than before to get myown SKX!
"dive in??!!" really?! Lol. cheers my friend....love it😀
LOL Thank you Adam ;-)
Best regards,
TGV
