    10:38 I agree 100%. These reimaginings of characters are nice. Some of my favourites include:
    Morty: Actually feels like a Ghost gym leader with the more ominous vibe. Really like the scarf.
    Jasmine: A nice sort of upgrade from the GS design. I really like it for her.
    Claire: I really like the lighter blue they went with for her outfit and that cape always rocks.
    Pryce: He kinda went from bland old man to an old man with a cool coat and a sweet scarf.
    Karen: She is FINE. She can *insert popular Karen trope* on me anyday.
    Lance: It may have been small but it makes big difference. This is a man that gains your respect by just looking at him
    Silver: Same with Lance when it comes to small changes doing big things. He just feels even smugger now which is really good for him.
    Rocket Exects.: I love these redesigns. They went from generic to having their own identities. It was really good for them especially Proton. Love that hat.
    Lt. Surge: This man evolved from a chad to an ultra chad. The sunglasses really work for him.
    Blue: I like how mature he looks. Like he's gotten his life together after his loss and is chill with where he is now.
    Really the only redesign I don't vibe with at all is Misty but I can see the appeal. Overall, my favourite redesigns in Pokemon remake history.
    Still though, R.I.P Kris. Guess her design was too 90s to modernize like Ethan and his Caprise. I like Lyra better anyway, just sad they had to put the first female Pokemon protagonist down for like 20 years until Masters came and used a Max Revive on her.

    • @KremBotop
      @KremBotop 3 года назад +9

      Yeah, this game's redesigns/glowups are great. The ones that needed the most change (Morty, Pryce, the executives) got great updates and the rest remain just as good and memorable, probably even more than before. (Though ditching Kris altogether was a bit too harsh) In contrast, I'm personally not too keen on a few of the ORAS redesigns but I can say that this game handled this topic perfectly. Btw, the color of Jasmine's dress seen here doesn't match with what one can see in the game itself and even as recently as in Masters, there it's green instead of light blue.

    • @castform7
      @castform7 3 года назад +6

      @@KremBotop Ya the redesigns in ORAS were very hit or miss for me especially when they hit it out of the park so well here. There are still some good ones like Brawly, Maxie and Flannery just to name a few of the ones I like. And I went to check on the Jasmine fact and you're right. She does more of a green rather than her light blue character art. Even in Masters. That's interesting.

    • @KremBotop
      @KremBotop 3 года назад +5

      @@castform7 Wonder what JPR thinks of the Hoenn redesigns when he reaches ORAS though. And I suspect that the color change on Jasmine's dress was a late decision after the art was already made. Or maybe green came first for the sprites, then it was almost changed to light blue but in the end it they settled with just keeping it green. I once did a dress recolor in photoshop for quick comparison so check it out: imgur.com/a/LXv0B06 Btw, A TCG piece and her DP anime cameo features her with the light blue dress, but the green one is in any other recent appearance of her, possibly including BDSP if her cameos are kept. Hopefully we can battle her at some point if she returns.

    • @castform7
      @castform7 3 года назад +5

      @@KremBotop I think JPR will find them fine. There's nothing really super bad about most of the time. I think maybe the art came first and there might have been a bit of a mishap with the sprites to where it's more green then light blue but they just kinda rolled with it in every other appearance she made. It's not like most people would notice. I didn't until you pointed it out and I looked for myself. I do like the more accurate recolour though. Light blue, green. She looks great in both. I don't think we'll be able to tell if she has green or light blue in BDSP since everything's top down and chibi so the only way we'll know for sure is if we get a close up conversation with her or a battle. I'd like the battle cause it's always nice fighting a strong opponent. Maybe it could be for the HM she gives you (at least I remember her giving me an HM.)

      @zjzr08 3 года назад +2

      @@KremBotop Official art in Pokemon seemingly feels like they're dull colored for some reason which is seen in Pokemon color textures - the anime and Let's Go and seemingly BDSP are using a "richer" color palette to me and I much prefer that approach than apparently copying Sugomori's lighting.

      @@MrMitchbow Oras was a garbage remake for very notable reason’s. The first reason is the absence of the best and hardest and biggest battle frontier and the second reason is because of the difficulty being too easy. The game was designed around the use of the exp share and Pokémon recieve way too much exp, not as much as X and Y but it still pretty bad. The AI in Oras for trainer was incredibly dumb, they also removed the fun and addictive Berry Machine mini game. The safari zone mini game was entirely removed. Rayquaza and Deoxy’s were shinylocked which is a huge shame considering the fact that they were able to be shiny hunted in the original’s like emerald. I do like the fact that they added mirage islands but it’s still terrible for the simple fact that they didn’t even bother adding in the Faraway island from emerald where you can encounter and shiny hunt mew. They removed the game corner entirely instead of adding it and doing what HGSS did where they replaced the slot machines with some mini game that can get you money. They didn’t even bother adding the Option to add the GBA sounds to listen to the GBA music and let us switch between the modern and old music. We got mega evolution way too early in the game and they gave us a mega legendary like Latios or Latias which’s breaks the game, thankfully they learned there lesson by adding mega evolution as a post game feature in the let’s go games instead of integrating it into the main games. Completing the Pokédex in oras was a huge mess due to the national dex needing to be completed to obtain the shiny charm, the removal of HM’s would have greatly benefited these remakes if they thought of this sooner. Some caves got shortened which is bad because if they made some of the caves as long as the originals then it would have been great for exploration. Oras did a lot of good things aswell but the removal of very major features and additions is what holds these games back completely. They are great games but terrible garbage remakes because they don’t live up to the standard set up by emerald. They improved upon the story from ruby and sapphire but the story of oras still fell flat because the story of emerald was arguably much better and it would have been better if they remade emerald instead of ruby and sapphire for the simple fact that ruby and sapphire’s story were pretty lame to begin with so improving upon ruby and sapphire isn’t even a huge achievement. Improving upon emerald’s story and adding tweaks to it would have been a much bigger improvement.

      @@GodSlayer330 so it’s bad because it’s easier. Maybe I like easy. I was a fan of the collection aspect, it was never easier to catch em all and raise any Pokémon up to competitive status. ORAS is easily the best remake, despite its mistakes. But what Pokémon game has 0 mistakes?

    • @GodSlayer330
      @GodSlayer330 3 года назад

      @@MrMitchbow no, it’s definitely not the best remake it’s arguably one of the worst but it is one of the best Pokémon games just one of the worst remakes while the worst is the Let’s Go games. A lot of games makes mistake but the developers behind oras intentionally removed major fan favorite features and created very major mistakes and decisions that completely held back these remakes. A game doesn’t have to be perfect and doesn’t have to be flawless but it also can’t make huge Major Mistakes by intentionally removing fan favorite features. The issues in HGSS were really minor mistakes made by the developers. In oras it was a different story because they made tons of changes that truly didn’t need to happen and removed a decent chunk of the huge major amazing aspects that people actually loved and respected about emerald. That’s why I believe Fire red and Leaf Green is much better of a remake to gen 1 then Omega ruby and alpha sapphire is to emerald. I think HGSS were arguably leagues beyond better then omega ruby and alpha sapphire because HGSS incorporated a lot of things from gold and silver but it also incorporated all or most things from crystal within the post game. HGSS improved upon the story a bit and HGSS also added a lot of quality of life improvements and a lot of things we didn’t know we wanted until we got it, HGSS also had a ton of new original content which is original to the remakes itself and was never present in gold,silver and crystal like the Sinjoh Ruins which connects to Arceus and Connects to Sinnoh and HGSS added a customizable safari zone which was never done before and adding a time travel celebi. I think The remakes of diamond and pearl could definitely surpass omega ruby and alpha sapphire if done correctly. Even if the diamond and pearl remakes don’t contain features like mega evolution; I honestly don’t think mega evolution is even necessary to make the diamond and pearl remakes surpass omega ruby and alpha sapphire. Diamond and pearl were arguably leagues beyond better then ruby and sapphire from a gameplay perspective and a map perspective. I would argue ruby and sapphire had a much better story then diamond and pearl but I am pretty sure the story will be fixed incredibly well in the diamond and pearl remakes since brilliant diamond and shining pearl are remakes of diamond and pearl which far surpass ruby and sapphire and I think the diamond and pearl remakes will naturally surpass omega ruby and alpha sapphire in a lot of regards because they are remakes of much better games then ruby and sapphire, besides that; the story in platinum was incredibly well done so it wouldn’t surprise me if they merged some of the platinum story elements into the diamond and pearl remakes while making it about dialga and palkia instead of giratina like in platinum. I think the diamond and pearl remakes could easily surpass Fire Red and Leaf Green and Omega Ruby And Alpha sapphire. I think the diamond and pearl remakes could also surpass HGSS but I personally doubt it will with masuda’s current game philosophy but I do still believe the diamond and pearl remakes will come somewhat close to surpassing HGSS and may be a top 5 game if handled correctly in a lot of aspects. If it’s handled correctly in almost every aspect then it could surpass HGSS and potencially Platinum. I think brilliant diamond and shining pearl will have a lot of new content and a lot of new things added to the game to make it well worth the purchase according to a highly credible leaker called samus hunter who has made accurate leaks before. I get that the art direction of the diamond and pearl remakes may rub people the wrong way but I do like the way the lakes looks in this game and the way the snowy areas look in this game so I strongly believe some areas will look much better then others in these remakes of diamond and pearl. But I think if the games have the amount content to back it up then I can get past the bad art direction but I personally kind of like the chibi art direction they took with these games because I believe some areas will geniunely look much better then others in these remakes.

    To defend Johto's tendency towards Gen 1 Pokemon, here's what I have to mention. For one thing, all the gyms use types that didn't have any in Kanto, so they at least have that newness to them. Most importantly though, back in Gen 2 there was no such thing as a regional dex, just a reordered "New Pokedex," so it makes sense that the game didn't make a point of showing off all the new Pokemon. This was the first time new Pokemon and old would appear in the same game; modern expectations of how that should should have been handled couldn't have applied.

    Best pokemon games full stop. Loads of routes and really feels like you are exploring.
    Catching my Lapras (one of) in that cave on a Friday, catching my Sableye via the Professor Oak radio, doing the bug contest on Tuesdays to get a Shiny stone for Togekiss...
    Getting the level 1 Giratina at Sinjoh ruins (use the wide event method in Platinum & transfer Arceus).
    By far the best Pokemon games for me, if only they made this on a sun & moon engine.
    I think you hit nail on the head. Ironically, it's the heart and soul that's in these games, that makes the huge difference.

    The johto games are great, but they have 2 giant problems: they don’t focus on johto and grinding sucks. Even though it’s in another region, these games are treated more as kanto games. Just look at the gym teams. No skarmory, sneasel, hoothoot, or ariados? Seriously?
    In the grinding section, why can’t I rematch trainers until team rocket is defeated? It doesn’t make any sense.

      what most people out of Japan forget/don't know, is that up until gen 3 the "lore" of pokemon was that the pokemon world is the real world but where pokemon where relatively recently discovered (like a century ago) and where myths and legends functioned largely like they do in the real world but with modern science suggest that most have a pokemon origin. Within that context GS makes a LOT more sense, it becomes more "we found more pokemon species in in this other region and we found more in Kanto as well" rather than the modern view of "these are Johto pokemon". Pokemon like Houndour and Houndoom are Kanto pokemon that where discovered within the timespan between RBY and GSC, rather than being Johto pokemon, within the original pokemon lore. It also explains the new pokedex, rather than the regional dex's and gym leader and just the general lack of new pokemon in Johto.
      And on top of that explains the original goal the professors gave you, record and collect the new pokemon. Rather the dex in modern games functioning more like a wikipedia page of known species within the context of lore.

    Evolution stones are in Crystal (one of the few reasons I prefer Crystal to G/S and the remakes are the superior version) however its hard to evolve stone Pokemon, because aside from Cloyster they don't get good moves to take advantage of, this is most notable with poor Starmie who doesn't get a good move other than Surf (unless you invest TMs in Blizzard and Thunder) Arcanine is usable though.
    I also don't agree on the "Only use starter, Ampharos and Red Gyarados" thing at least not fully, because you can still use mons that hold up well in the experience, any mon you get from the Odd Egg (especially if its a Cleffa, Smoochum or Elekid) are highly useful in their evolutions. Especially Smoochum! There's also Espeon/Umbreon, despite Espeon's lack of coverage outside of stab you can still work with Bite and Hidden Power. Plus the game is scaled in a way where getting by with its stab isn't a huge issue.
    Crystal kind helps the stone issue because you can get them during the main adventure you have access to more mons like Cloyster and Vaporeon (who are much more viable options than Gyarados because of Gyarados's atrocious special stat. Tbh outside of Goldeen, Horsea and Marill lines literally any other water type line are better use in terms of utlity over Red Gyarados, who tbh isn't that great in Gen 2) while I do think the restriction issue is a problem, I don't think its as bad, at least when you consider Crystal Version. I'm also surprised people don't add Crobat on the list of unusable mons in Gen 2, because until Gen 3 Crobat was pretty subpar, it couldn't even use Sludge Bomb or Shadow Ball.

The reason I feel that way is because I take the lack of amazing Pokémon to use as a challenge so it felt very rewarding to finally put the pieces together and create a great team; especially because I didn’t allow myself to use any Pokémon from my Pokémon gold play through or any gen 1 Pokémon. I also played Pokémon stadium which really adds to gold, silver, and crystal (there are tons of people who sing that games praises so if your interested I recommend you find someone who can dive much deeper into it than I could). The reason I believe why only a handful of gen 4 evolutions are in the regional dex (5: Mammoswine, yanmega, tangrowth, ambipom and lickilicky) is because those chosen have one thing in common: to get those evolutions, their pre-evolution need to learn a specific move. My guess is that they wanted to be as faithful as they could with the structure of the regional dex, but didn't want to do like in FRLG by preventing their evolution if they learned the required move, so they compromised by adding those five only to the regionlal dex since you could potentially get them during the main story.

The Johto Pokemon that weren't the starters, Amphoros or Quagsire sucked or were postgame, the Gym leaders used a bunch of Kanto Pokemon cause the Pokemon from their region sucked and the entire appeal of the postgame was going to a watered down version of Kanto. Thankfully, HGSS rectifies most of these problems along with a few other problems GS had. It feels like what GS was trying to achieve but y'know....they actually did it this time (except the whole Gym leader thing but we have rematches so I'll somewhat let it slide. Somewhat.) While they do still have a couple of flaws especially with leveling -it's abismol-, HGSS is a very good remake that fixes some problems and adds a few new things too.

    The director of HGSS himself played the original GS as a child and wanted them to be as great as possible by recapturing the spirit of the Gen 2 games while adding on so much. He stated in interviews that the team got greedy with adding in so much content into these remakes as physically possible.

    Haven’t watched the video yet. I’ve been playing Pokémon since Red and Blue first released. While I do very much enjoy HGSS, I think my favorite remakes thus far are FireRed and LeafGreen (my favorite games overall are Emerald, followed by Platinum). Let’s see if this video changes my mind.

    I like all pokemon remakes, but HGSS takes the cake. ORAS made a modern and fun way to experience hoenn, but dropped some things like the battle frontier and the difficulty level. FRLG improved everything over red and blue and became the defenitive version, but didnt add all that much. HGSS not only made johto more modern (the special physical split of gen 4 was a life saver) and became the ultimate edition, it also added so much more to the table on top of that

    I have a love/hate relationship with these games. I agree that these are the most content rich, fleshed out games in the main series but the lack of quality team building just kills it for me. I get the most fun in building a cool team of pokemon I never used before but in these I always find myself using Typlosion, Red Gyarados, Amphoros and Lugia/Ho-Oh. Its the main reason why I've played XY more times than these ones. Even though XY are objectively not good, there's so much variety in team building that no two playthrough feels the same (asuming you ditch the OP kanto starter mega and mega lucario).
    I appreciate the faithfulness to the originals, but I think for the sake of replay value and modernizing the games they should have massively reworked the availabilty of pokemon in the regional dex. I'd even be ok with adding gen 3 and 4 pokemon but I know that fans of the ogs would have not liked that.

      With things like Kanto added, I think the replay value is that you shouldn't consider the main story as the main dish, but more as the appetizer - and with Battle Frontier at the very least, it is IMO.

      Joseu. I understand. I like having to built an team with an mixed of good type coverage and many numbers of the other variety type wise; whether if there new or old Pokemons. Most likely an new ones. But don't have an problem with old ones coming back either just as long as the selection and variety to the mixed works well. I have an problem with that since Gen. 2 and wasn't until Gen. 5 and onwards where they got it perfectly. Even with the first Black & White game that only focus on newer Pokemons before postgame. And even though I know the 3D ones aren't as good as I hope it'll be, I'll give them credit for adding more number variety mixed into the Pokemons that I still hope it continues.

    Most of Johto's lack of Johto pokemon was due to story reasons. All these new pokemon can't just appear out of nowhere. We should have seen them in the previous game! In order to explain that away, the new pokemon were advertised through NPCs in game, in real world advertisements, and in game magazines as pokemon that are super rare, which explains why you haven't seen them before. This means they all need to be hard to get!
