Actually BW and BW2 were meant for young to late teens, not 10 year olds. That’s why the protagonists are 14 instead of 10. GF felt their audience was getting older, so they designed their game accordingly.
Honestly I liked they did that considering how despite them clearly appealing to children in mind, they’re aware of the audience having older players, not to mention how serious the story of Gen 5 was.
These games have SO much to explore it's crazy. The Battle Subway, the World Tournament, the White Forest/Black Tower, Pokestar Studios, Join Avenue, the Entralink, Hidden Grottos, tons of legendaries, side quests like Curtis/Yancy or the Abyssal Ruins. And importantly, almost all of these things are well put together. They aren't shallow. Even the Pokestar studios has _tons_ of content, which I didn't realize until I tried to complete it.

And the details. Once you become champion the castelia ice cream shop becomes famous because of you. In pokestar you become famous once you do enough movies, and you get fans, gifts, and even the directors start treating you with more respect
Gen 5 got so much hate from older veterans with Black and White. But Black 2 and White 2 brought back older pokemon and adding a bunch more features, switching in-game routes, adding the ability to continuously use repels, adding hidden grottos, having much harder battles and several straight-up run killers, and an awesome revitalized post game with the Yancy side quest, the PWT, shiny haxorus and gible rewards, and so much more. Best games, hands down.
Ironically I've been around since gen 1 and Black & White were the games that got me back into pokemon and ever since then Gen 5 has been my favorite and best generation of pokemon IMO!
@@jdx4527 Same here. I also started with Gen 1. DP made me give up on the franchise until BW restored my faith and got me back in. Still my fav generation.
My first game ever was Red version, I can confidently say that black and white 2 are my favorite entries in the franchise. Though I will say I have not played gens 7 or 8.
Black 2 was the first Pokémon game I ever finished, I still remember when gen 5 was so hated. Makes me happy to see that it’s been getting the love it’s deserved for a decade
It was hated because the pokemon that you were forced to play with were hated. People dont play pokemon for the story. They play for the pokemon. Thats why Gen 5 was hated. Its only now that we have had 3 generations in a row that you could beat without trying that we look backwards. Gen 5 was great because it was challenging, but it also got necesarry criticism. I dont know whats up with the rosey goggles of people about those games. Played both, and its good but not "PERFECT"
@@jingitaxias8461 it is the perfect they made bandw region only pokemons because they wanted people to use the newly introduced pokemons(bruh the dex got the highest number of pokemons ever introduced) and not the same boring pokemons they used for years +the masterpiece of a story.... truly the best.....man because of people like you we never got x2 and y2 damn it....😔😔
Something you didn't talk about that I really appreciate is the sound design and minor detail. On various routes and towns, standing next to a musician adds their instrument to the already amazing music. Running on routes adds a drum or tambourine, adding to that sense of adventure. All route songs have a individual version for each of the four seasons with minor changes to the instruments that add to the mood. All town and cities have unique themes, adding to their individuality. And the seasons in general changing color pallets, terrain, ect. The attention to detail in this game is bitter sweet, as future games simply lack these clever details.
It is truly magical. I don't see that in games often, but when I do it feels so lived in if they do. I Remmeber the gym where the I struments lessened with each trainer you beat, or a musician you talk to and the whole town music shifts.
The praise gen5 gets nowadays relative to its initial reception is very satisfying to me, because of how controversial things initially seemed. I wonder (and hope!!) if GF is aware of how beloved these games are by many of us. Great video, and for those looking for more gen5 video essays praising these masterpieces, would definitely recommend KingK's retrospectives, too!
Unfortunately, damage was already done. They’re not going to try to appeal to the older fans/vets of the series again except for nOsTaLgIa and competitive play. Which is saddening.
Pokemon BW2 will always have a special place in my heart, maybe even more than HG SS. I grew up poor and I played every gen 2 or 3 years late until I got HG SS, I sold my bike to get that game, but when I got BW2, it got me into the competitive scene. I played online for hours. I remember taking my ds to school and battle my friends, getting caught like 4 times playing the game in class. Sometimes I wish to experience that again, the nostalgia I get from watching videos like "pokemon BW2 is the best" is overwhelming. I never get tired of watching these videos. I never understood the hate these games got. But now I see people are starting to appreciate these games.
Hey man. Good times are cruel for that sometimes we may never get back those exact same moments. I relate to everything you said here, I had a Gameboy advance SP, I loved dragon ball Buu's fury. To me that was the best game I owned. I never had a Pokemon game and had to use emulators to play them.
I’m gonna be honest. I definitely loved the incredibly new fresh take when Gen 5 was released and didn’t even care that they didn’t have all the old Pokémon. I was more excited to see what new Pokémon were around and I liked having a new team. Plus afterwards you got access to older gen Pokémon anyways
This. The complete separation of the Pokedex was such a positive for me, can't rely on my old favorites like I did with most games and I learned to love a lot of the new mons just as much as the older ones after the journey!
Same for me. Could have done without the mentioned high evo requirements, which always felt like Gen1 oversight to me. BW was new by just not shoving Zubats down your throat at every opportunity and circumventing the overabundance of water mon by not giving you a fishing rod until the post game. There is so much to do in these games, no fairy type, team builiding without the tried and true op staples and the best music hands down. The individual arena veriations in BW2 are so great, and even the route music has seasonal variation.
In fact, you CAN get drought Ninetales in Black2/White2 legally even today without anyone's help. Pretty sure one secret hollow in the Abundant Shrine has a 1% rate to spawn a hidden ability Vulpix.
@@MultiJudgmentdragon I play on an emulator and after realizing that hunting for low encounter hidden grotto encounters is essentially worse than shiny hunting I found a cheat that makes the chance of encounter respawn 100 percent after exiting and reentering
Black and White 2 in my opinion are everything a Pokémon game should be. A plethora of legendaries to catch, rich post game content, and an amazing story with depth to it that leaves the player thinking long after they put their DS down. Its such a shame that upon their release, these games were shunned and are one of the lowest selling entries in the series. If only we knew how bad it could get.
Well, people hated BW because they dont like new things in BW and loved their old gens too much. As for me I hate gen 4 which I started (because of slow and boring gameplay even in Platinum; I cant imagined how bad in D/P if Platinum is the best of gen 4) but fell in love with gen 5 and apperiate new things in gen 5. As for BW2 lowest sales. Its because they released quite late in DS lifetime so not many people willing play BW2 while the console will not supported shortly and consider the hate on BW. If only people willing give BW2 a chance back then and not biased on their nostalgia tinted eyes
And Idle battle sprites of pokemon is best aspect of Gen 5 and how cool and lovable those sprites idling around. Well, battle animation is roughly similar and bit better than gen 4 for most moves but Draco meteor animation is my favorite.
Gen 5 literally the Gen of Dragon-Type Pokemon where Dragon-Type pokemon is actually strong as Dragons that GF have to nerf them in XY😂 with freaking Fairy
Gen 5 was a fun time when it came to the story, concepts, and exploring Unova (it does have a linear design but the routes tend to be interesting to go through like the Hidden Grottos and legendaries), not to mention seeing the animated trailer in 2012. And the animated cutscene of Kyurem fusing with Reshiram/Zekrom. I do agree with you on the Pokestar Studios being the least interesting part, they could have not let it be a mandatory part to go through like in RSE with contests.
But even the PokeStar Studio was fun. Yeah. It's is one of the few mandatory to do. But I couldn't care less because I love the concept of that and it makes good replay value.
@@jaretco6423 Yeah I don’t mind those who enjoyed it, they could have made it just be there, like say what it is and move on. I do think the concept was interesting though.
Pokestar studios is actually sooooo fun especially that weird humanoid movie (look like GF plays silent hill) and tall lady movie( it was way before lady dimitrescu exist) and ledian taking over the world and tyranitar movie(basically Kaiju and ape movie) and yeah force tutorial should be optional.
Unknown. And the cool part was that; aside Brycen returning into an movie after his retirement as an Icirrus City, they brought Sabrina from Gen. 1 as an actor.
Gen 5 was a breath of fresh air yet it was familiar to past generations. That is how the series SHOULD have continued, but here we are scratching are heads and wondering why young teens loved Gen 5 yet some veterans did not. Thanks to the haters Pokémon has never been the same and it breaks my heart 💔
We veterans knew and still know that gen 5 was a scam. Lots of the problems people have nowadays spawned in gen 5, but you are just seeing them with rose tinted glasses.
@@saturos53 I started the series in the most perfect way possible with FireRed back 2004. Other than the quality of life the series has gone downhill since gen 6, they cut development time from 4 to 3 years.
@@beyond0077 You were a kid when you played Gen 5, of course you were. You are 20yo at best. While I agree gen 6 was a nosedive, Gen 5 was far from the peak, starting bad habits that plagues the games to this day.
@@beyond0077 Again, the fact that a disaster came after them doesn't change the fact Gen 5 was just bad. The story doesn't make sense. Even mystery dungeon games have better stories and characters. I can't fathom how a story so coward that couldn't bring itself to ask you moral questions (something like a safari zone that team plasma fights against, for example) is that praised. The premise is good, but it falls so short I can only believe you liked it because you were a young teen at most. I can't understand how so many people loath dexit but praise a game that did a hard dexit over most of the playthrough. And while B2W2 were definitely better games (doesn't take much) they were far from the peak. The removal of following pokemon, shiny hunting methods, battle frontier (PWT was a poor man's BF. I never see someone asking for its return over BF), contests, secret bases, overworld berry growth and more made the game shallower. Not to mention the story devolves to "villain wants to control the box legendary". We too had silly battle gimmicks that were forgotten: I don't see anyone longing for triple and rotation battles. And worst of all, it was the game that introduced microtransactions, or don't you remember you had to pay extra if you wanted the alternate force of nature forms? If you have great nostalgia about them I won't change your opinion, but I do hope you can see why they were disliked so much. Only the extreme nosedive with Gen 6,7,8 made them look better, but that still doesn't make them actually better that what came before them.
It’s the end pf the Golden era for me. While the new games have been great, the series peaked with gens III-V imo. You get all 5 regions thanks to the remakes of Kanto and Jhoto and amazing spinoffs, too.
@@Shay96 I know this is a sort of unpopular opinion but I believe ultra sun and ultra moon are not only a great pokemon game, I would even say maybe the best. I really enjoyed it, it was challenging in a way no other pokemon game was before and it is the most immersive 3D pokemon game imo

I was definitely one of those people who was a little too critical of Gen 5 when it started. HGSS and Platinum are still my favorite games, but Gen 5 was seriously a great one too. Seeing what has happened to the games since then has made me appreciate it so much more.
@LJ Because gen 5 is getting more credit than it deserves and other gens get much less and lots of criticism yet everyone ignores gen 5 flaws and there are a ton, its fine for people to have it as their fav but when people objectively say its perfect thats when we get annoyed
@LJ I cant speak for others but I myself fairly see the flaws and pros of every gen, my favs are for my own reasons but i dont pretend they are perfect, gen 5 just has more annoying things compared to previous gens and its why i dont like it quite as much tho they are still great games, their main flaw is they are meant to be single player games and yet they try to force you to do everything in multiplayer and dont give you the single choice (of course this was done to make you buy all the games and more consoles but its pretty cheap tactic tbh)
I like the games of B2 and W2 but me hating the starters I'd rather play Platinum. If this Gen had better starters I think it'd be hands down best game. Starters suck compared to gen 1-4 in my opinion.
Yeah this game became my favorite after entering end-game for a reason all those years ago. Even child me felt that none of the predecessors could really compete in the end-game. Still feel that way. Coincidentally also the first game where I found non-forced shiny.
Same! And it was also the first game I found a non-forced shiny; I found a shiny woobat and ended up trading it for a level 100 hydreigon online bc I was a dumb kid. Oh well, I still have that hydreigon and I treasure it lol.
This video came at a perfect time for me because I've been replaying Pokemon Black/White 1 for the first time in many years. It was the first Pokemon game that I ever purchased on my own, and despite playing every single Pokemon game since Red/Blue and being super nostalgic about all of them, there was just something different about Black/White. It was like I knew that I was playing Pokemon perfection from the moment I got my starter. It took until Legends Arceus for me to have that feeling recreated, but I still think Gen 5 is easily the best generation of Pokemon and Black/White are my #1 despite being nostalgic about every game that came before them.
I always liked Gen 5 since it debuted. I remember going from platinum to Pokémon White (even though we are mainly talking about bw2), and loving how much the sprites developed with movement and stuff, and the story and all the new things added.
BW and BW2 were and are my favorites. The story, the characters, the POKEMON???? All absolutely wonderful. Incredibly hard to top, incredible easy to take for granted. Such good games.
I would love to point out that Drought Ninetails IS actually available. It can be found from a hidden grotto, it's surprising how many pokemon can be found in the grottos that are also pokemon you'd probably want. 😉
Ikr? I love Skill Link Cinccino, and they freaking gift wrap one to you. Scrappy Stoutland, Moxie Heracross, Poison Heal Gliscor, Imposter Ditto, and a chance at Sheer Force Nidoking, Moxie Salamence and Marvel Scale Dragonite in the post-game? Those are just the ones I remember off the top of my head.
Black 2 was the first brand new Pokemon game I owned. I put over a thousand hours into it. I cleared the Black Tower, cleared all the PWT challenges(both with non EV trained Pokemon because I didn't know about EV's), and did all the movies in Pokestar Studios.
The last mainline Pokemon game I played was Diamond and Soul Silver 10 years ago before I feel like I "grew out" of the series. I finally played the gen 5 games and man did I miss out. I ended up loving them and they're now my favorites along with the gen 3 games!
am not a veteran but as a long time player of pokemon from early 2000's what makes me love gen 5 aside the sprites and animation was the fact that there's no old gen pokemon from the get go and just a completely new batch of mons for that generation. this made me experiment and threw me completely out to not rely on "go to pokemons for each type" on your pokemon team. it's really a breath of fresh air and puts you on a level of excitement at that point which was improved by the sequel
🌸❤️The Black and White titles were the first time since Pokémon Gold and Silver that I felt excited the games and that I would go on to invest weeks into.❤️🌸
I had so much fun with Black 2, especially in the postgame. And Black 1 had a strong story for the series, I'll never forget it. Definitely my favorite generation.
Everytime I see something on these games again I just want to play the game again. I love black and white so much and upon playing gen 4 6 7 and 8 I really want to play 5 again because I think it's just way better than those.
I've recently played and beaten bw1 and bw2 and i gotta say these games are amazing. I downloaded a ds emulator out of pure boredom and decided to play pokemon white, despite not being a pokemon fan at that time. I realized how fun these games actually were, the gameplay, the characters, the music, and especially the story we're all so enjoyable and great. I don't even know how to put them into words, these games are just too good. I can't believe people hated these games when they were released! Gen 5 introduced me into the franchise. I've only gotten into it for a few weeks but they're absolutely amazing games, And the graphics still look good till this day!
@@Jarethttorney well I used MelonDS for Android but the frames can be pretty choppy and laggy sometimes but maybe that's just my phone. I don't know how well it works on PC. I also use Lemuroid but i change the core to MelonDS when using the ds emulator.
My only problem with BW2 is that you can't access different difficulty options until after you first beat the game. And since any copy of the game is incapable of carrying more than one save file, you have to delete your first save file that you just beat the game with in order to play the whole game in easy or challenge mode. Also while I prefer the content in BW2, I preferred BW1's story. Even though BW1's story on the surface is just the typical Pokemon game story formula there is actually some narrative depth in it. The conflict isn't about defeating opponents in hopes of aiming for the top and is less about become a hero by defeating an evil team but more of exploring people's different ideals and a clash of beliefs. It's a rather fresh take for a mainline Pokemon game to focus more on characterization and story than concepts. BW2 on the other hand well..... it's a bummer that it returns to the generic story formula.
Oh but if you delete your save file you also lose access to the difficulty settings. In order to play in challenge mode from the beginning of the game you need to transfer it from another copy that has it unlocked (plus there's the thing where only black 2 unlocks challenge mode, and you can then only transfer it to a white 2 copy or something like that... Really they could almost just not have bothered at all given how tedious to unlock it is)
I also loved the mini tasks for badges that you could do. Especially, beating the Pokémon league with a set typing - Pokémon B2/W2 were great for making set typed teams which made these challenges all the more satisfying.
same i play black 2 too but on mobile, together with brilliant diamond its so fun with the cheats in black 2 xd got cynthia team with cheat instantly but i dont cheat on iv-ev etc i go normally but with her team. my starter was roselia xD
Black 2 was my first Pokémon game and I’m really glad it was. I had so much fun just exploring and leveling up my team. Most memories of the game are kinda lost to time but from what I do remember, I had such a great time
Love the game. Pokemon world tournament/white tree hollow is the best post game imo. The only thing that's missing is the fight with the player character from b1w1
Pokemon White 2 was my first ever Pokémon game. I got my first random shiny in that game, I completed it first out of any of them. I have and always will have a soft spot for Unova and I’m so happy that more people are seeing this game as I do.
The 14 year old me still remembers when black and white were the most hated pokemon games of all time. It all changed when x and y came around introducing exp share from the start and making linear 3d routes. Everybody loved black and white all of a sudden. It was the call of duty effect where the audience didn't appreciate the game until it was too late. Gen 5 was the last honest pokemon game. Every pokemon game after gen 5 catered towards casuals. I use the word 'casuals' loosely here, not insulting anybody. Its a lot easier to play gen 6 and onwards. You just press the A button through tons of voiceless dialogue boxes and win the game. I partially blame the hackers and hacking pokemon but I digress
I love the new rival and his theme, as well as all the new Features and Events that happened in this gen! The Film Studio was my favourite thing to do in the meantime, if i wanted to take a break from battles. And now that we are able to get all those mystery event Items and pokemon through a really easy Internet method, i was able to trigger the Keldeo, Victini, Meloetta, Zorua, Zoroark and Genesect Event, which made this game even greater! Dream Radar is also a thing that i really like
In defense of the Swords of Justice, they reveal themselves to the player because they knew that there's a big treat to Unova and that both N and Hilbert/Hilda aren't here to save the region once again. So they kinda join you to defeat Team Plasma again. That's why they are the only group of legendaries that you can caught in BW2 before fighting Kyurem.
Before end game: New area that link to old area to explore New brand new area (after 6th gym) Revamped pokemon gym Address the issue of high level evolution for some pokemon (volcarona, braviary) Hidden grotto Easily found move tutor with wide range of move Inclusive of old gen pokemon (so I do not need to stuck with either glass cannon or ice cream for champion) After post game: Hunting old gen legendary New area to explore PVE challenges: White tree hollow/black building and cynthia. Additional challenges will be revamp E4 + special character (rival, colress) Competitive challenges: PWT (this is the best part, the actual competitive plays before online) Actually able to get two actual shiny (complete pokedex and Benga challenge) much more than previous game Overall game: Actual time moving: Showing the progress of characters + changes of some routes/area after the 2 years Actual good rival development: Before ppl talking about sw/sh Hop, we got the development of Hugh Actual realistic storyline: Ghetesis actually tried to end us instead of fighting pokemon battle Concept: Rather than having alternate form, an actual idea of fusing legendaries is actually quite cool Interactions: More interaction with semi-character like gym leader,E4,professor, bianca Only bad part: % and refreshing mechanic of hidden grotto
Couldn't agree more. It was my first Pokemon game and after playing tons others it's still my favorite. It's just... So good. Gosh this vid is making want to go replay it again
A few years ago I replayed Black 2 and happened to find a shiny Terrakion on my first encounter. I threw my master ball at it lol. The last shiny legendary I found was a Kyogre which KO'd itself with recoil, and I wasn't taking any chances.
back then about 5 years ago, i thought i was the only one left to appreciate gen5 pokemon, so it makes my heart melt to know that more and more people are going back to appreciate this generation.
I think this really illustrates why people don't like XY as much. There's not a whole lot to actually do in them besides gyms, routes, E4, and a rather poor story by comparison. It just has less polished detail too cause this was when we got the same 3D models for a decade with no real changes and that doesn't even mention the start of the difficulty complaints and the power gimmicks like megas things people are just tired of seeing now.
Nobody is tired of Megas. Actually, people are claiming Megas to come back! Besides, the fans accepted very well the introduction of the gimmicks, mainly the competitive players who had many new possibilities with them. Mega Evolution is the best feature in more than 100 Pokémon games and we have to thanks XY for give them to us! XY are underrated games!
@@pedromonteiro2248 I wasn't talking about megas specifically, just the generational power gimmick thing in general they have done 3 times in a row now. Megas on their own are fine, but I know I'm not the only one who wants a break from this stuff
Alpha AX. And even if the game was rushed & felt bland, they could've saved it by given us an enhanced version; Pokemon Z, to make Kalos or Gen. 6 as an whole alot better. Imagine playing Gen. 4; but without Platinum and your stuck with Diamond & Pearl. Even than, Platinum still has alot of flaws. But still an better Sinnoh experience. And u get my point.
I literally just beat black 2 for the first time after beating white version last year, also for the first time and Jesus Christ…is this ever-growing love for Gen 5 seemingly more and more valid. I loved these games so much, especially the first one. It gave me that super good holistic feeling I’ve been looking for in pokemon since I was a kid. The only other game that got close to that feeling recently was arceus earlier this year but that was more of a new kind of fun for Pokémon imo. Where b/w felt simple but passionate, like how I felt playing fire red as my first pokemon game back in 2004. I’m so glad I bought these games and love the attention they’re getting these days🖤🤍
I was really hoping that we would get sequel games for sword and shield because a lot of the characters end up with completely different roles than they started with. Bede and Marnie both become gym leaders, Sonia becomes the professor and Hop becomes her assistant. Leon is the head of the battle tower. It kind of felt like they were maybe setting up for sequels that would maybe explore more of galar's lore and fix some of base sword/shield's issues. But given that gen 9 has already been announced, it's not gonna happen 😔
The genwunners heavily shunned all the positive changes that Gen 5 brought and now we're stuck with the SwSh and BDSP model. Every time you feel like Gen 8 is soulless thank them for it
It's people like you that encourage Gamefreak's bs by calling every kind of criticism as whinning and not the other way around honestly. People complained about some of Gen 5's pokemon: Shut up I like 'em all nobody cares about your opinion. People complained about pokebank subscription and the greed driven paywall: iT's ONlY 5$ A yEAr. People complained about the limited dex in Gen 8 and reused models: tHeY diDn'T hAVe enOUgH tIMe. So, enjoy your crappy ass still in beta triple A priced with extra paid DLC game experience of sword and shield since no criticism is allowed. But hey, all I'm doing now is "genwhinning", right, sword and shield are great games 😂 I could write a whole essay on this topic but let's keep it short instead. Both sides of the fan base are to blame in all honesty but the so called "genwunners" are for sure the least responsible about the quality downgrade of the games.
@Alex ummm... no. Not even close. Gen 5’s reception didn’t have even a microscopic hand in influencing the design of the modern games. It may be hard to believe, but SwSh and BDSP are as bad as they are because that’s the ONLY form the Pokemon company allowed them to take.
@@theillustriouscosmowitch617 Yeah, sure. The reception of a previous game surely had nothing to do with how the series developed from that point on, even tho it was very obvious that the next games after were already influenced by that reception and most of the things that still haunt us came from that shift of vision. It may be hard to believe, but the Pokemon Company surely didn't roll dice to decide their course of action.
White was my first game as a kid, finally playing White 2 after waiting a decade. had no idea what i’d been missing out on for so long! Unova will always be my favorite region.
To me Gen 5 always stood out the most and it always caught my attention more than any generation because it’s what made me curious about Pokémon again. I remember being a kid and looking in gaming magazines and being super interested in Black and White.
I remember being 5 years old and my mom got me a 3ds and said pick a game and i point to pokemon black 2 at the shelf from the gamestore i still remember this after so long crazy times
I love love love B/W and B2/W2 equally I do have bias toward the B/W just because it was my first game I was able to get my hands on to play, but when I played B2/W2 I couldn't help but notice all the content available and that made me enjoy that. To this day I notice how much content I have yet live through for B2/W2 considering some of the short clips I saw on this video I do not remember. The PWT is still one of my favorites things the pokémon games have brought out. I enjoy the bracket style battles.
i've played black 2 twice and white 2 once. basically three times. it was just that good. it even gave me an early growlithe then arcanine and a riolu which evolved into lucario who was and still my favorite pokemon. post game was god tier and it's the biggest selling point for these 2 games. my most memorable experience from it was hunting a dragonite and a bagon with their hidden ability in one of the hidden grottos. catching them or even just finding them was already so fullfilling after hours and hours of walking and entering the grottos hoping for that dragonite and bagon to spawn. black 2 and white 2 were way ahead of their time. i can only imagine if they got released in the switch or even the 3ds. what a time could've been for pokemon.
BW and BW2 are my favourite games (and I didn't even start Pokemon with them !). So much content, care for details, more serious than the other games, an actual plot, amazing OST... To this day we don't have something like World Tournament. And finally bold choices ! I loved the fact than you could only use gen 5 mons in BW before the endgame. And I still remember the surprise of not fighting Goyah but N and Ghetis in BW. Team plasma actually feels important in the story.
white 2 was the second pokemon game i played (diamond first) but it was my hook to my intense pokemon obsession as a kid and is still my favourite (main series) pokemon game to this day
pokemon black 2 was my first pokemon game ever, after years of watching the main series finally playing it was so rich for me as a child, and being able to finally complete it with the emulator thing on IOS was so nice, best pokemon game OAT
I grew up from a very early age with my copy of pokemon emerald and heartgold, and watching my brother play the original gold copy, and also playing sinnoh somewhat, i absolutely loved gen 5 and i never got my hands on b/w 2 in cartridge and i did my first playthrough back in 2018
I loved this game soooo much. Black 2 is a game that I play on repeat ALL the time. White as well. Zekrom is sooo cool and Game Freak knocked it out of the park with this one lol.
my favourite is between black 2 and x, black 2 was an amazing improvement on an already amazing game. X was just revolutionairy on its own. Still cant decide tho
I'm enjoying my first playthrough of B2. Granted I'm one who left after gen 3. Came back around gen 8. So I'm revamping my knowledge as my boy sure does enjoy Pokemon. So here's to catching up on 7 generations of Pokemon. Been a journey since it's about 16 years of catching up.
I gotta get Pokemon Black 2 again so I can give the game another shot because it certainly did tell a good story in Pokemon not to mention we got a threatening team in the Sequel like Neo Team Plasma. Black 2 gave the player lots of options for team building with a variety of new Pokemon and old Pokemon.
I have a 100% copy of Black 2 that is currently my most prized posession behind my personal information and bank account details, as it literally has over 4000 hours worth of playtime on it and is the culmination of much of my childhood. Easily my favorite Pokemon game EVER.

I hope they use BW2 whenever they do remakes of Gen 5 tbh, not like they really need to be remade imo

@@Jarethttorney well I used MelonDS for Android but the frames can be pretty choppy and laggy sometimes but maybe that's just my phone. I don't know how well it works on PC. I also use Lemuroid but i change the core to MelonDS when using the ds emulator.
@@reethelemon I'll try it.
So the ultimate unova game should be bw story with bw2 stuff added to the postgame. Also the pwt
Currently playing through Black 2 after hearing a bunch of people recommend it, have to say it does not disappoint. You get loads of variety
same i play black 2 too but on mobile, together with brilliant diamond
its so fun with the cheats in black 2 xd got cynthia team with cheat instantly but i dont cheat on iv-ev etc i go normally but with her team.
my starter was roselia xD
Games fun probably best story. Legendary game
Black 2 was my first Pokémon game and I’m really glad it was. I had so much fun just exploring and leveling up my team. Most memories of the game are kinda lost to time but from what I do remember, I had such a great time
Same, i was like 7 when i got it and i didn’t finish it until i was 13 cuz i got stuck in driftveil and didn’t know how to get out 😭
Love the game.
Gen 5 is freakin great, I loved playing them as a kid, and still love replaying through them :)
I actually enjoyed pokestar studios, the movies were really fun and also very well written for a mini game.
Dream Radar is also a thing that i really like
Bw2 one of my first Pokémon games ever. Very great game! I loved the gameplay features, story, and the characters especially Elesa’s new design ⚡️
The Alola games are my favorite, but I firmly agree with this stance.
Same :)
Both Gen 5 and Gen 7 are my favorites.
What?! Sun and moon?? 🤣 how can those even be considered anywhere near the same league as black/white
@@casual_video_enjoyer-i6x Because the characters are better
Before end game:
New area that link to old area to explore
New brand new area (after 6th gym)
Revamped pokemon gym
Address the issue of high level evolution for some pokemon (volcarona, braviary)
Hidden grotto
Easily found move tutor with wide range of move
Inclusive of old gen pokemon (so I do not need to stuck with either glass cannon or ice cream for champion)
After post game:
Hunting old gen legendary
New area to explore
PVE challenges: White tree hollow/black building and cynthia. Additional challenges will be revamp E4 + special character (rival, colress)
Competitive challenges: PWT (this is the best part, the actual competitive plays before online)
Actually able to get two actual shiny (complete pokedex and Benga challenge) much more than previous game
Overall game:
Actual time moving: Showing the progress of characters + changes of some routes/area after the 2 years
Actual good rival development: Before ppl talking about sw/sh Hop, we got the development of Hugh
Actual realistic storyline: Ghetesis actually tried to end us instead of fighting pokemon battle
Concept: Rather than having alternate form, an actual idea of fusing legendaries is actually quite cool
Interactions: More interaction with semi-character like gym leader,E4,professor, bianca
Only bad part:
% and refreshing mechanic of hidden grotto
I feel like the perfect Pokémon experience is simply the entirety of Gen 5 together, back-to-back.
Gen 5 will always be my favorite pokemon games they hold a special place in my heart
Thé animation style, story, Pokémon and content in this game are absolutely top tier imo. Really wish we got more games with this animation style
Great video. Gen 5 is my favorite by far and this video does it a lot of justice
The only thing that sucks about bw2 is that if you want a physical copy in the original box, your gonna cough up over 100 dollars
Kyogre in black 2 how
back then about 5 years ago, i thought i was the only one left to appreciate gen5 pokemon, so it makes my heart melt to know that more and more people are going back to appreciate this generation.
XY felt bleak, unpolished & rushed. The sad part is that it could've been alot better if they put more timed into them.
@@jaretco6423 yeah there was ALOT of potential in gen 6 they just didn't capitalize on like poor zygarde lol
Exactly!
As someone whose first game was White 2 I loved the game. If a generation deserves another game it would gen 5
Why would you get White 2 if it's a sequel
I just wouldn't trust gamefreak nowadays to have it live up to that. Just do a legends kyurem situation
@@ZoofyZoof it was a Christmas gift I was like 9 or 10 when it came out
Just don't do an remake of them. Instead, make an Legend sequel.
@@CherrEblue oh, okay
Every time you feel like Gen 8 is soulless thank them for it
Legend's Arceus saves gen 8
What does that even mean? "SwSh BDSP model" huh? Plus Have you not seen SV?
This being my first Pokémon games I ever played set a bar so high that has yet to be passed
Gen 5 anime: Trash
Gen 5 games: Masterpiece
Well said epically the anime league
White was my first game as a kid, finally playing White 2 after waiting a decade. had no idea what i’d been missing out on for so long! Unova will always be my favorite region.
I'm calling it black and white 2 are the best games in the franchise and hoenn is the best region.
When I was a child I struggled a lot with older pokemon games, felt them really chunky and hard to play, but bw and bw2 felt sooo satisfying playing
I love the music in the first 30 seconds. Once it picked up I got chills
i've played black 2 twice and white 2 once. basically three times. it was just that good. it even gave me an early growlithe then arcanine and a riolu which evolved into lucario who was and still my favorite pokemon. post game was god tier and it's the biggest selling point for these 2 games. my most memorable experience from it was hunting a dragonite and a bagon with their hidden ability in one of the hidden grottos. catching them or even just finding them was already so fullfilling after hours and hours of walking and entering the grottos hoping for that dragonite and bagon to spawn.
black 2 and white 2 were way ahead of their time. i can only imagine if they got released in the switch or even the 3ds. what a time could've been for pokemon.
These references to NASCAR Chase for the Cup 2005 are golden. I'll never forget my truck series Oranges as long as I live
I just finished replaying white 2 the other day then you post this the timing couldn’t have been better
Zekrom is sooo cool and Game Freak knocked it out of the park with this one lol.
agreed. BW2 are my favorite Pokemon games and packed in an insane amount of content
my favourite is between black 2 and x, black 2 was an amazing improvement on an already amazing game. X was just revolutionairy on its own. Still cant decide tho
I feel oras and SwSh are also good at giving that epic leader/e4 battle vibe 😌
I'll pick it up when the price is lowered and I regret selling my Black 2 as well so yes I do plan on getting it again.
I made it to the league in that game after a years long hiatus
So glad this was my first game, I started getting into and watching Pokémon in gen 4 but 5 is my jam
When this was release I was in highschool and I told everyone that Gen 5 was amazing. And it beat every other Gen. Gen 5 is so damn goood’
I have a 100% copy of Black 2 that is currently my most prized posession behind my personal information and bank account details, as it literally has over 4000 hours worth of playtime on it and is the culmination of much of my childhood. Easily my favorite Pokemon game EVER.
i always knew it, the memories i have with white 2, the challenge that was the Elite Four with my lvl 50 samurot and level 30 and less team
I like that you shared your opinion with us. I never got to play black and white my self
There're two secret areas you can find in the Castelia sewers, the central plaza and the back alley. I don't know how common it is for people to know about the back alley because I never see it mentioned and it blew my mind when I stumbled across it
Fun fact the first shiny I’ve ever seen was a shiny cryogonal in Pokémon black the one with zekrom
It was also the only game I had a guide book for and that lead to me finding so much more I didn’t know any thing about
