A long time back my brother found a luvdisc on one of the water routes between Johto and Kanto I believe in Heart Gold, and we saw their area was unknown. So then us kids thought that “area unknown” just meant you had to find out yourself. But then later I realized that wasn’t the case, and thought his game just glitched. I’m just now realizing that he probably had turned on Hoen sounds or something without realizing it did anything. Crazy.
Love to see more of this crazy B2/W2 quest documented!!!! On the Lucky Power topic, I believe it does work with surfing encounters. According to the Encounter Calculator program by AngefloSH, Lapras goes from 5% to 10% with Lucky Power 1 and 2 & 40% with Lucky Power 3 and above

I’m glad I decided to do this last year because I always knew it would be a pain in the butt back when the games came out having to transfer a ton of Pokémon, but it did feel rewarding finally doing it all. It definitely helped I already did it for Gen 4 and had a bunch of Gen 1-4 pokemon (especially legendaries 😅) just sitting around in SoulSilver and was the only reason I did it at all in Gen 5
My plan for this is to complete the national dex in emerald (because that’s basically the hardest national dex to complete) and transfer everything up once I’m done with it to gen 4 and then to 5
This is almost like a behind the scenes of the medal video, so cool! I love seeing the way you approach problems, and your reactions to finally achieving a single task after hours of trying is always rewarding 😄
here's a fun challenge: try to complete all of the pokemon home mobile app challenges. i've been trying it recently and it's pretty fun. they range in difficulty from "withdraw a butterfree", "deposit 30 pikachu" or "trade two version exclusives" to "deposit a venusaur from fire red and leaf green", "deposit a shiny genesect", "get 18 vivillon patterns", and "beat a 7 star raid". you could also complete the ability/move dex which is just to put in at least one pokemon that has each of the abilities/moves in the series.
I have never completed a national pokedex since I haven't been able to play the games for so long due to money limitations, so this is a fun thing to see!
When they announced that pokemon bank wouldn't be around forever (very vague shutdown announcement) it reminded me that I never completed the national dex in the pre-3DS games, I'm working on gen 3's and then imma work from there, I'd argue gen 3's is hardest cuz there was no GTS and the amount of hoops you had to go through to get most of the Johto fellas. Either way nice work completing B2W2 dexes, John!
Ah, yes, the ghost trees of the Giant Chasm. 😂 As I understand it, it seems Game Freak originally intended to put a Hidden Grotto there, between those specific trees, but decided against it and forgot to remove the programming that allowed the player to walk through them, lol.

Gen5 LivingDex took me over 2000hrs over the span of 3years to get done. The Mythical Pokes were the biggest issue but when i finally went to get my Shiny Charm, i was hype. im just glad to see people enjoying BW2. G3-5 = Golden Age of Pokemon.
I like this. I’m a warmish kinda Pokémon fan. Like, I’m warmed up to enjoying Pokémon content, but outside of Snap and Stadium, I have no memories of playing Pokémon as a kid. I know I did on a GameBoy Color, but… 🤷♀️ I’m also unfamiliar with this channel and typically only calm down significantly by rewatching something. This is a great video I decided to click on before bed
i just did a white playthrough and, not even shiny hunting, found a shiny scraggy and a shiny zebstrika in my playthrough. that's never happened to me before. immediately made me love gen 5 even more
The first time I played white, I had the same thing happen, and I got PokeRus to make it even better. Shiny Sawk and shiny Sandile for me. Made me love this gen, as the only other legit shiny I caught was a Wurmple back in Gen 3.
if you're going for full unova dexes (mostly regional but also national), here's some fun tips: - if you knock out the legendary sword trio before the e4, when they respawn in postgame, their only attacking move is sacred sword. you can wall them with ghost types easy. also, contrary to what johnstone says in the video, they don't actually have adjusted catch rates - they have the standard catch rate of 3 (out of 255) that most legendaries have. - however, reshiram and zekrom have a catch rate of 45 in gen 5, which is the same as uncommon finds like eevee and pseudolegendaries like deino! - speaking of the sword trio, cobalion also learns thunder wave via TM (buyable in i think nimbasa city?) and has a ton of resistances on top of being level 65 on respawn (higher than most pokemon in the game) - dark colored grass has higher leveled pokemon and a chance of doubles, so if you're hunting something, you can slot a fodder pokemon to level up in the second slot while you put your main catching pokemon in the front of your party to clean house. - n's pokemon are at max friendship when you catch them, so you don't need to catch and friendship grind for a woobat if you're going for n's pokemon as well. (but that's still a 1% encounter so whether it's worth it is up to you) - if you're going to be transferring pokemon from gen 4 anyway, you may as well just catch a lapras in hgss (union cave fixed encounter) or dppt (the postgame section of victory road) instead of hunting via rippling water. i did just give up

So many trades and transferring of nines games and restarting HeartGold and SoulSilver to get the starters was a special kind of torture. Congrats again though on the achievement. It’s NOT easy.

Doing this requires a minimum of three full playthroughs of Emerald, three full playthroughs of FireRed/LeafGreen, one full playthrough of the other Kanto remake, and partial playthroughs of Ruby and Sapphire. And even after all that, you’d still be missing Mew, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi, Jirachi, and Deoxys. Add in the GameCube games and you can cut down the replays of Emerald and FireRed/LeafGreen, but you still have to complete Colosseum and XD playthroughs to get Lugia and Ho-Oh. That might be a fun video idea: complete the Gen III National Dex without using the GameCube games. Edit: I guess I either inspired John or I predicted the future…
21:45 You get it for free along with a few other Pokemon like Wobbafet, Meowth etc by in game trading in B2W2 lol. You just have to complete the x transciever quest which you start by collecting the lost one in Nimbasa city.
I too strived to collect all the Pokémon in this generation. Lapras was the most horrible to get. When I FINALLY found one after 2 hours of grinding, it proceeded to use perish song and nearly died. I didn’t even know that you could boost the chances, so I panicked like crazy during that moment. Thank GOD it stayed in the ball.
Omg it’s very time consuming to complete it but thanks to online servers it’s doable and I’m very close 200 plus pokemon thanks for your insight and hope to be able to complete it
B/W2 were actually the first games I finished the national dex in! I made it a goal to complete it before X and Y came out in 2013 and I was able to finish it a few days ahead of their release. It was a challenge but I had an old DNS spoofing site to help me get especially difficult pokemon to catch for me like Glameow which is exclusive to Pearl in gens 4 and 5
It’s cool seeing this, because White 2 was the first (and probably only) game where I completed the national dex. I remember glameow being the most troublesome to get, because I didn’t own Pearl.
This exact same thing is something I’ll have to account for when I finish, because I also don’t have pearl. From what I’ve heard though, it spawns in a grotto in b2 or w2 while doing a fun fest mission
Man I feel your pain with that mewtwo! I have been playing both scarlet and violet to basically 100 percent them and because I don't want to risk fainting a legendary, I just chuck pokeballs till I either catch them or they struggle to death, which has happened twice between the two games 😅
Timer balls are an incredible investment, and I'm sure you've learned this but put your opponent to sleep to gain some extra time before struggling. Also, many of the legendaries respawn if you do certain tasks, so don't worry too much about fainting them; I nearly had a heart attack when okidogi struggled to death but they do respawn after a while.
The event distribution server actually isn't random, what you get depends on the date of your DS! You can just grab an event, change the date to the next day, grab the next event, change the date, etc. until you have everything (although in B2W2 there are more events than there is space in your Mystery Gift list, so you'll have to clear it out a bit in the middle before going further)

It's the simplest but most time consuming National Dex to complete since you can get almost everything from Entralink's private server

I too strived to collect all the Pokémon in this generation. Lapras was the most horrible to get. When I FINALLY found one after 2 hours of grinding, it proceeded to use perish song and nearly died. I didn’t even know that you could boost the chances, so I panicked like crazy during that moment. Thank GOD it stayed in the ball.
This is my favorite challenge in my favorite Pokémon generation. Me happy; very happy.

B/W2 were actually the first games I finished the national dex in! I made it a goal to complete it before X and Y came out in 2013 and I was able to finish it a few days ahead of their release. It was a challenge but I had an old DNS spoofing site to help me get especially difficult pokemon to catch for me like Glameow which is exclusive to Pearl in gens 4 and 5
It’s cool seeing this, because White 2 was the first (and probably only) game where I completed the national dex. I remember glameow being the most troublesome to get, because I didn’t own Pearl.
This exact same thing is something I’ll have to account for when I finish, because I also don’t have pearl. From what I’ve heard though, it spawns in a grotto in b2 or w2 while doing a fun fest mission

Man I feel your pain with that mewtwo! I have been playing both scarlet and violet to basically 100 percent them and because I don't want to risk fainting a legendary, I just chuck pokeballs till I either catch them or they struggle to death, which has happened twice between the two games 😅
Timer balls are an incredible investment, and I'm sure you've learned this but put your opponent to sleep to gain some extra time before struggling. Also, many of the legendaries respawn if you do certain tasks, so don't worry too much about fainting them; I nearly had a heart attack when okidogi struggled to death but they do respawn after a while.

The event distribution server actually isn't random, what you get depends on the date of your DS! You can just grab an event, change the date to the next day, grab the next event, change the date, etc. until you have everything (although in B2W2 there are more events than there is space in your Mystery Gift list, so you'll have to clear it out a bit in the middle before going further)
