Inside Mexico’s Warring Cartels and the Millions of People They’ve Displaced
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 5 мар 2020
- For decades, the Mexican government has struggled to figure out what to do about warring cartels. And that's led to a massive and mostly ignored crisis: Entire towns are being displaced by violence, leaving ghost towns behind.
The problem is so severe - and stubborn - that a recent study concluded that just between 2011 and 2017 as many as 8 million people were displaced within the country because of violence stemming from the constant battle for territory. But there are virtually no laws, programs, public policy or official government initiatives to help those displaced. And, because people flee their homes individually or in families - not in caravans - the problem has largely stayed out of the public eye.
Meanwhile, armed groups have been moving in, making many of the neighborhoods their own.
For the past year, VICE News' Roberto Ferdman has been following the story of hundreds of displaced families, and the violent war that has destroyed their towns.

Sturm Gewehr44 We can regulate it, just like we did with alcohol. We can fund mental health institutions. Many illegal drugs, such as marijuana ayahuasca and LSD have actually helped people out with their heroin, meth and prescription drug overuse.
Sturm Gewehr44 The reasons for the current drug crisis is from companies overprescribing and downplaying the risks of their drugs, so fixing that and strictly regulating these drugs to make sure they aren’t mixed with other substances that kill, could reduce the impact it will have. The VICE we missed.
This is so sad, I couldn't imagine not being able to go to what you call home. This pains me so much, everyone wonders why people are fleeing to the states. I hope these people have their prayers answered 🙏
Am I the only one who reads the captions but knows what he is saying in Spanish just to see if they did translate it correct
Mario Gallegos did they?
@@sboloshis1188 most things but some things they switch around
S Boloshis yeah, they didn’t do a bad job. Some things weren’t direct translations, but I understand why they said what they said. The interviewer didn’t have the best Spanish, but he got his message across.
Mario Gallegos I do the same thing.
There are a lot of things that cant really be translated into English tho.
can you dub these lots of ppl listen to youtube not have time sit n stare 🙏🏼
This is exactly what's going on here where I live 2 cartels rivals are fighting to take control of the town
It hits different when you watch and see family in the displaced camps.
@First Name Last Name the woman in the beginning with the pink shirt who's listening with her arm's crossed.
This made me tear up since I can feel the bottom of her heart
Heartbreaking.
God bless every single person praying for peace and love
That’s a lot of money something doesn’t add up
Jose Magallanes you talking about the military uniforms? I’d imagine they take all profit at the armed homes, i mean they’d have to have luxuries there with them right?
*homes armed with cartel members
Drug money plus whatever they steal credit cards, bankinfo from the people they murdered that would be more than enough probably.
Human trafficking, stealing oil. I mean drug cartels probably revenue billions of dollars in a year solely for drugs such as cocaine and heroin.
the guy is lying about alot. If they had that much money their ak's wouldnt be taped together lmao
As a mexican American, I remember as a child, going to Mexico and this situation escalating and have had my own family members kidnapped and we havent heard of them for 10+ years. I'm so disgusted and ashamed that the government is literally putting money before people's lives. Something needs to be done, but all the police stations are so infiltrated with corruption. All I think about is all the innocent children that suffer and it breaks my heart to pieces.
I live in Mexico and I am seriously thinking about escaping from here. But I don't know which country to go to or how to do it.

I’ll be honest here, I think the second guy with the white mask speaks more truth than the “community police” leader. Something about him
That Don Chava is shady AF “when he said he is the Law” that’s red flag right there
A string of commercials interrupted by pieces of a decumentary about violence in Mexico
Shame how that beautiful place turned into complete chaos
Everything that could went wrong, went wrong. Mexico specially the south, had the potential to become the world's most visited and touristic place of the planet. From amazing landscapes, terrain, beaches, caves, temples, mayan and azteca structures, to having the origination of most cacao/chocolate crops, tomato, avocado, red mango, jicama, and so many unique plants and vegetation..
@@EdwinCristobal Yes, true indeed. Mexico ever since its independence has been plagued through corruption and disunity.
All the brujarias
It's a cat and mouse game on who is innocent and who is not. For example with what happened in Michoacan, The Caballeros Templarios were dismantled by "the good guys" Los Auto Defensas. Once Los Auto Defensas took control everything went into a shithole, tons of carteles were created after that. The same thing is happening here in Guerrero. It's a never ending war. As long as the government is corrupt and the demand of drugs is high outside of Mexico, this will never end.
Wait are you serious so that's what happened ? I always wondered what did happen
@@tarzzicciovazquez703 Yes sir, from my knowledge Dr. Mireles last words through a recorded video stated that he no longer existed and he was betrayed. Most of the Auto Defensa founders created their own cartels for ex: El Abuelo Farias in Tecaltepec and Nicholas Sierra Santana who is the leader of Los Viagras.

Dude with the shotgun (I believe that mode of weapon carry is called "I have no sling" and it's too heavy to shoulder) should notice that someone has that wall zeroed with a heavy weapon. Homeboy should probably be behind something.
I really hope we can still support those still in the struggle ,even with covid-19 out there
