Twas the night before Christmas
on a small Bama farm
The Smiths were a sleepin
safe, snug and warm.
The chickens were roostin
In their coop nice and clean.
While the duck and the geese slept
with their heads neath their wings.
When out in the field there arose
such a clatter,
The goats sprang from their huts
to see what was the matter.
Moody and Peaches looked
up in awe
The Sheriff amazed at what he had saw.
There stood a man all dressed in red
with shiny black boots
and a hat on his head.
He unloaded his sleigh full of
goodies and fruit
Scratched under their chins
as he passed out his loot.
With a wave of his hand,
he called over his team
Oh what a fabulous year this
has been!!!
And they heard him yell out
as he flew out of sight,
"Merry Christmas y'all and have a
wonderful night"
Very good!
That is wonderful! 🥰🥰
Love it!!!
Kelly, this is so, so special
That is awesome Kelly!!
Talking about not liking some foods...my daughter was maybe 4 (36 now) and while eating a meal at my mom and dad's she announced she did not like the 'marshmallow bones'. None of us knew what she was talking about until she showed us - it was the Waldorf salad (?) that had fruit, marshmallows, and coconut, and it was the coconut she was referring to as marshmallow bones. Ho Ho Ho! 🎄
God Bless You for letting Mary Carl know she has a roof over for life!!!!! I was told there is not a revolving door on this house by my mom. I left at 21 and only moved back home at 33 with a horrific grade 3 open ankle fx. My parents are now over 80 and I am here to make there lives the best they can be. Your daughter will always be there for you!!! I am 57 now. Wish all a Merry Christmas! God loves all of you! Remember our savior Jesus Christ was born! An amazing gift to us all!
That's the same thing my parents told us kids. And I'm the ONLY one that didn't move back in out of the four that grew up in their household, and I'm the baby. They're gone now (2004 & 2008), and I know that I will see my mother again, in our future home together. Father, I don't know about, but if he's there, I'll be tickled to find that out.
Amazing gift is true. I went back home once my son was welcomed home all the time though. Because I needed their help with an abusive relationship, I didn't have anywhere to move home to! Yet when each of them were sick surgeries and end of life.
My dad's nature showed when he was dying, it was hard to stay there but I did it because he was my dad
My husband now has said, he won't and didn't accept my kids coming home not without them paying rent!! My thing if I got rent I would put it in an account for that kid.
Thank diggi
@@Lirin1122 That's what we did for mine. They grew up knowing that if they remained home, it was rent & board-free, as long as they were in school full-time (college/university). Otherwise, they paid a nominal ($25/wk) to "help out" with their upkeep. Little did they know we put that $25 in a savings account to build up so that they had a nest egg when they DID move out of the house.
Oh Brooke I’m so glad you have that conversation with MC! There was a lot of importance from my peers (being a woman) that the focus of your life was having babies and being married. Now I’m 30 and have a loving partner, I qualified as a doctor and we are thinking of adopting and having kids in the near future. It really helped that my mum told me I would always have a place with her to call home and that my identity wasn’t tied down to being married! Often we celebrate marriage and pregnancy as the dominant events in woman’s life and they are massive milestones, but equally so was me getting into medical school and becoming a doctor (something my grandmother told everyone she could before she passed away). It means a lot.
Jason and Brooke- one of the reasons I love you guys is because YOU DO NOT USE CLICK BAIT TITLES! Thank you so much for that. That is just a pet peeve of mine. If that’s the only way a vlogger can get me to click on the video, then they probably don’t have much to offer. In this day and age, unrealistic titles seem like one more way people are trying to deceive us. Have a great Christmas!!
I actually unsubscribe, even if I’ve enjoyed their past blogs!! I Love this family and their animal family, it’s like visiting old friends watching them and No Clickbait💞🦋🙋🏻♀️
Not a thong in sight! 👍😁
I have to agree with you. I have unsubscribed from couple of channels including Adler Farm because I cannot abide click bait.
There's an old expression that says, "People with the most advise about raising children are those that don't have any." I think that is true for many things and there is alot of ignorance (no knowledge)in the world. My husband raised chickens from the age of 13 and he continued to learn all his life and not necessarily from books. We learned so much from older farmers...word of mouth so to speak! I've been watching your site for some time now and have learned so many things I wish to tell him.... but sadly he has passed. Your animals are the most loving I've ever seen and I firmly believe it is the two of you and the way you handle and love them. Jason when you speak to them it is just amazing. I bet if they could speak they would. I don't know how you do all the work it requires you to do, and your daughter, Mary Carl, is so smart and clever. I'm curious as to what career she will pursue. You are all just a pleasure to watch. Thank you and God bless you!
💜
I just realized why, I relate to you both, so much. Jason, shares my momma's birthday, and Brooke shares, my sister in laws. Thank you for the smiles ☺️
Brooke, Put recipes in a three ring binder with clear page protectors. You might store the cards in the back of the binder. Later, you can go to an office supply store and actually bind the recipes in a book.
No snow here in Kansas for Christmas. But 49 years ago on Christmas we had 12 inches of snow with more coming down and I had my son. Yes on Christmas Day. What a present!
Ham for Christmas, Turkey for Thanksgiving. But our family is so big that we usually have both ham and Turkey for both holidays.
@@mountaincreekhomestead read the bible correctly please. The old Testament dietary laws have been done away with. The new testament makes this abundantly clear. A friend of mine was worried about this because she loved pork chops so she prayed and asked the Lord about this. She had a dream and in the dream she had a platter full of pork chops and every time she ate some, the platter refilled. Please don't try to keep those Christ set free in bondage!
@@mountaincreekhomestead By Grace are we saved, not by the law.
Jason I personally love the musical interludes in your videos showing your animals, have wished they were longer!
I look forward to joining the students watching the longer musical/videos highlighting everything on your farm including seeing Mary Carl in her swing!!
We always had Turkey, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Ham for Easter. This year I'm doing prime rib. Well since Mary Carl is turning twelve maybe it's time she learning to cook and one day a week she cooks for the family. Mind you it may have to wait until the house is build. I think she would do well.
When kids help with meal prep they learn to like cooking and even learn to like new foods
@@christywoffinden1592 Wish my mom had done that as she would chase us out of the kitchen. She was a wonderful baker, but didn't like cooking. My sister had a Scottish girl give her lessons when she lived in Paris and she cooks & bakes well. Me ? I'm hopeless!
When my son was about 2 we had been trying to get him to eat vegetables. We offered him some carrots. He would not even try them. We were so frustrated my husband was ready to force him to try a bite. At the same time we were teaching him manors. His dad was trying to get him to take one bit. He look up and said “No Thank You Daddy”. Well we almost died as he had never said it before. Today he loves vegetables. Give MaryCarl time she will change her taste as she grows.
Hi Brooke and Jason you both look great in the Santa hats. Your both great sports and lovable people. Love your videos and pod cast, THANKS. 🇨🇦
Have you ever thought of making a Hoop House Style greenhouse? It would be great option given the room you have. Happy Birthday Mary Carl! I can't wait to see your birthday present .... AkA Aviary
Kelly Miller. That is a very good poem! Brooke, thats right your daddy knew his job was done and left it in Jasons hands and he has did a great job from what I hear
Thank you so much❤❤
When I was growing up we always had turkey on Thanksgiving and ham on Christmas. This year it's just me so I'm having turkey breast. My 2nd granddaughter's birthday is on December 28th too. Happy birthday Mary Carl and merry Christmas to you all.
“In the kitchen with Brooke.” Great idea!
My husband and I started dating in 1993 and married in 1998.. our wedding night his dad moved in with us.. he lived with us until he took his last breath in 2018 at home with us.. we loved every day with him.. and he helped out kids become the respectable adults they are now (18 and 21)
Annnnddddd we are having sirloin steak instead of ham/ turkey 😂 hope your brisket is awesome
In my household, for at least 20 years now, which means I've made it a tradition... we have Moody... a prime rib roast on Christmas. What you were trying to come up with is a 'haystack' candy.
We have Turkey in the UK traditionally but my family have various other meats aswell. Such as Beef, & Lamb.
Brooke, you could get a ring binger and some clear plastic wallets to go inside and slide your recipes in them. I know a RUclipsr that does that with all the cards and letters he receives from fans. It's a nice place to keep them safe and look back on them in time.
Kids who are intelligent & delightfully quirky often have definite ideas about what taste or texture food they like & dislike. Good news is that they often become more comfortable with trying new things as adults. Marycarl is becoming a lovely young woman. She’s grown so much this last year!
Here in Montreal 🇨🇦, there is snow on the ground and snow is forcasted for Christmas day! High of -7°C, low of -11°C. BURR...
Turkey for Christmas, ham for Easter in my family. French Canadians' tradition is "Meatball Stew" for New York.
Snow ❄️ is in the forecast for Oregon on Christmas!! Our family has Turkey on Thanksgiving, roast for Christmas, seafood 🦞 for New Years and ham for Easter. You both are enjoyable to watch and I love the content! Enjoy the Holidays
Wouldn’t that be wonderful! I’m in Woodburn Oregon and am always wishing for snow on Christmas! The Cog family has recently in the past few months turned out to be my favorite RUclips videos! I look forward for there new ones:-) crossing my fingers for snow🤞
My mum went into labour having me on her 21st Birthday. My first serious BF was born 1 day before me. Life is full of coincidences.
Flowers are food for the soul.
We’re Italian … Christmas Eve we do The seven fishes, Christmas Day a rib roast. Merry Christmas to you and all the beautiful animals on Cog Hill 🎄🎅🏻🎄
Oh I miss seven fishes feast! There not that popular in the south as they are up north. Though we do eat a lot of fish throughout the year.....nothing like 7 fishes feast.
We are doing a Christmas lasagna. Just tired of turkey and ham....lol I love this Cog Hill Family!!!
Merry Christmas y'all!
Cream cheese goes in our recipe for chocolate covered peanut butter balls and pumpkin rolls. Also lots of different cheese ball recipes that are made during the holidays. I'm guessing it's the cheese balls causing the shortage!
I make cheesecake with cream cheese for Christmas.
Our weather in NE TX has been so crazy. Shorts, tee shirt and flip flop weather for the past week or more. Today it's in the 40's, tonight below 32, stays cold until Friday and on Christmas the high is 78! It's like a roller coaster! Up and down, up and down. lol! Sinuses don't have a chance around here! :)
We cook two turkey breasts and a large ham for both Thanksgiving and Christmas and our entire family brings different sides and desserts and we all eat together and play games.
Love you guys!!! We grew up with Turkey for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. As we got older and did our own thing, we change it up. My sister likes making a lamb roast or leg of lamb which is delicious! Ham we usually have at Easter.
It's not winter yet Brooke! Haha love y'all! Ham for Christmas, and Happy almost your Birthday MaryCarl!
I was born on my oldest sisters birthday, so we always had to share a cake and present. My youngest daughter was born on Christmas, but her farther died on her 40th birthday so this time of year is very hard for the whole family. But we are very thankful for the great Person he was . Very understanding and a great provider.
There’s nothing prettier than a flower garden cut flowers out front for people to buy to take the loved ones at home or someone in the hospital or a nearby forest that might need a certain flower that they can’t get and you have those flowers in your garden there is always a need for flowers flowers make people smile and the world and the love that comes from flowers when you give them oh my goodness the flowers are a necessity
What does Moody do when it rains? Does he have a dry area to lay down? Does he like the rain? He is so sweet.
I was thinking the same thing, I'm sure they will soon build a comfy lean-to so the animals are sheltered when it's raining or frigid temps.
Drive to the country when it is raining and see what the cows are doing. Cows do lay down when it rains..most do anyway. But they lay in the field together along with their calves. They are usually only in a barn for milking and then back outside. Since he is a steer he will not be milked 🙃.
Most cattle in the field, have shelter from the trees and a hill that they can hide and use as a wind shield, or the herd huddle together for warmth, so to say moody is alright, is wrong
Moody is a huge lapdog that will most likely love shelter close to his feeding/watering. He may be a steer but he has a personality of a big puppy. He needs a shelter. He and all of the goats should have some kind of shelter.
Rita Kraus: The goats have a metal building they can get under any time they want to. Since goats do not like rain, I am sure they take advantage of that.
My family always had turkey, a goose and a ham on Christmas. Turkey and duck on Thanksgiving..
Have a wonderful Christmas ☃️🎄🎅 week yourselves.
I blocked up my nest boxes until the girls were old enough to lay. I never had a problem with them sleeping in them.
I don’t t like when channels use click bait. If your a follower you are going to watch no click bait needed. This is my favorite channel!
Woohoo 🎉
Maybe a separate channel “Cooking with Brooke” in the future… 🥰🥰🥰
Really!!! Cog Hill 40, Cookin with Brooke!!!
@@kellymiller9771 yes 🥰
Awesome podcast. Y’all are sweet and I am just such a fan of you two!! I’ve never listened or watched a podcast in my 53 years but I sure enjoy this !! I want some of that soup and some buttered toast for dunkin!!! Mmmmmm lol Your Canadian fan Sam 😀🇨🇦🦫
Brooke your sweet Daddy probably fought so he could walk you down the isle.
You guys are so real and speak what’s on your hearts. Your family is so precious!
I have always told my 3 children , as long as I'm alive and this house is standing, you will never be homeless.
I have always had some one living with me, I have a 1/4 acre and a lower level that acts like an apartment. It works
Just love listening ♥ to you two. Made my day. Have a blessed Christmas 🎄 🙏. Birthday wishes 💖 to marycarl.
My family has turkey for Thanksgiving, a rib roast for Christmas, and Ham for New Year’s dinner. You should try a brine for your turkey Jason it really makes a difference in the flavor and the juiciness of the turkey.
My momma always said to us “You should never deny your child a roof or food, no matter how old, that is part of the unconditional love parents should have for their children” I stand by that. 🥰 The question about the rain in the roof, I would of looked like you had a 3rd too 😂😆🤣. I love hearing the rain 🥰. Thank you for chatting it up with us tonight 🥰🎄☺️
Brooke, what you should do is start having Mary Carl cook. Let her go through recipes, pick out what she wants to cook. She's plenty old enough to learn to cook, bake, whaever. Great school project!!
I’m excited to watch you guys cultivate your land the way you want to. You have so much space, and can not wait!!!
Oh my goodness I remember making those little pizzas on English muffins not the bagels but oh that sounds like a great idea thank you Brooke I like that and on the subject of cream cheese love cream cheese in this household just love it it’s in a lot of the recipes I have just plain cream cheese stuffed and celery sounds good
I really appreciate that you all don’t use the click bate titles 😊 we have done both for Christmas sometimes Turkey and ham
I have a son who will be 55 on Christmas Day. He was my present that long ago. Can you imagine? My birthday is the 12th day of Christmas, January 6 th. Hope your Christmas is very special and your New Year truly is blessed. 🙏🏻💕
I just love you guys so much, you make me feel "normal", i just wish I could be friends with you IRL...thanks for sharing. I usually think of turkey for Thanksgiving and ham for Christmas, but brisket sounds so much better. Ive wanted to do a brisket on my smoker but haven't had the courage. Just make sure you do your RUclips research on smoking brisket, (I'm sure you will) its an expensive piece of meat that can be tricky to perfect. Good luck and enjoy.
I've heard there great rubbed in yellow mustard and spices, before you smoke them.
Merry Christmas yall. Love seeing the animals. Wish you had a live camera on the animals all the time. God bless you and your family.
I have 2 granddaughters that turned 13 this year. Good kids. I raised their parents
Our family always ate turkey for Christmas. My dear mother added a duck one year with a fancy jello cranberry salad and stuffung with wild rice. (Something she saw in a fancy magazine. ) for all her high hopes, the fancy part of her meal was ignored. :-/ I wish I could get a do over on that.
We always had a Thomas for Christmas and a Peaches for Easter!
A Christmas turkey! Hasn't Brooke ever watched "A Christmas Carole?" It's always a Christmas 🦃. Ham is for Easter.
Agreed.
A Christmas goose
We do Lamb for Easter (resurrection day)
Yes but movie,The Christmas Story, they had a turkey that the Bumpuses dog stole right off the table!#🤪
We let our teenage girl drive our truck. Her job was to drive us to the dump. She loved the driving and we loved taking care of business. Two birds with one stone.
I normally do a ham for Christmas, however for Thanksgiving I had Turkey, well... it was not so good. So I decided for Christmas I am making traditional Christmas dinner with home made pumpkin cheese cake from scratch oh I cannot wait.
I love your vlogs and podcasts. Some of my favorite segments are just watching your animals. Your stories are great, you both crack me and a moment later crying sweet tears. Did I mention, I love watching your animals? Mary Carl is a wonderful young woman, so smart, so compassionate and seems to know her own mind. BTW, I love watching her with the animals too, and Mama and Papa Cog Hill. 😃
Y'all have a blessed Christmas.
Wishing y’all a Merry Christmas and a Happy Healthy New Year. God Bless
It's fun to watch something that's so difference from my life experience. I enjoy your stories because I have NO experience with farm life or farm animals and don't think that will change.
Sorry to hear about your dad Brooke. My husband’s mind was affected by chemo. He had strokes when he did chemo. It didn’t affect his physical self, just his mind. Also, cancer travels. I’m so glad he got to walk you down the isle. My great grands love your videos.
I will watch anything you do. I love your interaction with the animals.
Love your videos and podcasts. I wish you and all of the Cog Squad a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Love you all.
Merry Cmas Sherri..hope u have a blessed one and Santa is good to u🎄❤
My youngest son's is December 28th too. He's a grown man so now I make his favorite meal and deliver it to him. I do that for my oldest too. They love it!

Those of us who TRULY LOVE y'all, will watch ANYTHING y'all's wanna post❣️
That's a fact!
I do love the 🎶🎵🎶 music you put in the videos as well 💙💙
I live in Butler county Ohio and our Christmas day is supposed to be almost 60 I would love to see snow but I don't think we're going to get it this year you guys have a great Christmas really enjoy watching your videos and I love that cow I'm glad he's going to live a happy life don't have to worry about going anywhere else I love all your critters
Loving the Santa hats guys 🤶🏼🎅🏼 Here in the UK (Scotland to be exact lol) we don’t have Thanksgiving, so traditionally we have turkey 🦃 for Christmas 🎄 and ham 🍖 at Easter 🐣 Have a Happy Christmas and enjoy your brisket- sounds delish xx
My kids got a lot less picky about their food when they had to take a turn planning and cooking a meal once a week with me. By the time they were thirteen, they did one meal a week from start to finish, including a desert all on their own. Even my high function autistic daughter got into the swing of things. The effort of planning a meal, going through a recipe book, the pantry, garden, and then shopping for missing ingredients with me helped them expand their tastes over time. 3 out of 5 kids had plates with dividers on them too. So that was always part of every meal plan. 🐓
The teacher has a great idea. You all would also make a great petting farm for kids taking school outings. Moody and Nugget would be the stars!
We always had a turkey at Xmas too. But I'm with you guys, highly over-rated. We're actually doing fondue for our family Xmas dinner this year. So excited!!!
Ham & Turkey on Christmas and Thanksgiving in Tennessee. 😋
I was lookin at the old crystal ball (lol) and I saw a small covered pavilion with a fireplace at one end of it and there was power at this pavilion. A ceiling fan. A small refrigerator. Now this pavilion was right next to your pond. Y’all were doing cookin shows. Of course there were 6 rockin chairs and a picnic table too. 😁👍😊 Plus it would be a nice place to gather for the lil school children to have a snack. Ya see, MaryCarl is so awesome with kids that I think she will give a talk and tour of the farm animals. If I was a lil kid and got to go on a field trip to your farm... I’d be excited !!! Can’t wait to see how MaryCarl blossoms in the coming years !!! She is so beautiful and smart with a tremendous passion for her birds. So she’d have the birds covered and Jason could do Moody and Nugget. Maybe a lil dancin with Moody. Brooke does the goats and then drives the kids around the farm in a hay wagon. Gotta finish with a hay ride. Then you pull up to the pavilion for a snack. 😁😁😁👍😁. Jason does the thank you for coming to visit the farm and MaryCarl and Brooke hand out the “Official Member of The Cog Squad “ t-shirts. What a Grand day for the kids !!! Ya say ... this guy is crazy. How are we gonna afford t-shirts for the kids ??? Well.. we set up an account for the viewers to donate towards this fund. I know I’d definitely donate for a few shirts. 😃👍. Y’all have a blessed day !!! Sorry for getting carried away. I just get excited sometimes. 😊
Tennessee has a great way of day dreaming about the future. I agree with Tennessee's view of, the whole Cog Hill Farms fun day visit. Kids will love seeing all the animals, drinks,& hayrides. Merry Christmas, & happy birthday sweet Mary Carl.
I agree AGAIN, Tennessee, you are right on target about how visiting Cog Hill Farm could be for the kid's. Also the big kids, like me,would love the adventure too. One day all the fruit tree's will be bearing fruit for the snack too. Good imagination, & for site Tennessee. In Maine we have kids go on school field trips to farms, very educational, & fun. Merry Christmas .
Jason and Brooke, when we built this house we're living in now, and we were in the process of moving (after living in the same house for 27 years), that once we got this last move done, I wasn't moving again -- that my next move would be to the cemetery. That's been 21 years ago. Our wedding was not an elaborate wedding, my mom made my wedding dress, my grandma's dress, her own dress, and both bridesmaids dresses. Our wedding cake, I think, cost us about $12, and the flowers were about $23, one ofmy aunts made my wedding veil. So, we had a beautiful wedding, at not a high cost. Of course, we got married in 1963, so costs were not so high then! LOL! A wedding does not have to cost an awful lot of money to be beautiful. I dare say that we didn't spend $200 for everything! And, my dress was lace over satin. I hope I never have to cover all those tiny buttons again -- that was the hardest part about the whole thing!
It all sounds so lovely and very special as ones you love made your dress and veil. So much more meaningful than a store bought gown.
If you have some shaded area you could grow ferns to use with your flowers.
Lots of people don't like coconut, cream cheese, yogurt & cheese cake. More for me! Mary Carl is normal! I remember not liking spaghetti sauce. I would eat noodles with butter! 😁
😊😊😊❤️❤️👍
Oh Brooke i LOVVE Brisket and i think that's excellent idea! Not everybody will agree but YUMMM!! And Jason i think your hard core fans would watch Anything you video🤣
Much love from Ks
❤🎄❤🎄❤
As far as the animal videos goes….their names would be extra special, not just the type of animal that they are, but their names makes it extra special to me.
Taste for different foods is also developed by having been exposed to different foods and flavors! Specially during childhood! The more you try something, the more you like it (with exceptions, of course); and the more you try different foods, the more you'll like new things 🙂
You should collect all of those recipes you get, save each name who contributed them and publish volumes of 40 or 50 in each. You should also publish books with your own recipes, and those personal family recipes from you ancestors, too.
Your dad knew your life would be great with Jason. That’s bitter sweet.
Love your podcast just don't change ,some have changed so much to where they go live n complain and keep repeating for a full he,so please don't ever change!
We do have a turkey for Thanksgiving, but for Christmas we have roast beef. This year we are having soup and sandwiches. I’m so excited about this. Our daughter is hosting and let me tell you, she can cook!
My dad always like fried oysters for a change. But we had ham dad didn’t do turkey.
My mother had a galvanized 18 hole nesting box that was her mothers...the nesting perch was wider and had 2 (1x 2) oak boards spaced evenly on the perch. No sure how old it was. My grandmother was born in 1898.
When you said about a flower farm and the farm truck. I imagined the farm truck sitting by the front gate with the bed filled with all kinds of flowers. Next to it the canned ham sitting close by a canopy sit up. With hanging baskets hanging from the canopy and pots of flowers sitting around .I am just waiting to see how you fix up the forty. Merry Christmas to everyone on the Cog Hill 40.
Ham for Christmas, Turkey for Thanksgiving, We also have ham on Easter. My husband smoked the Turkey and it was great!
For temporary countertops, I took this plywood and finished it with stain and several coats of clear cost finish. It worked out well till my countertops came in months later. Then I used them in the garage for other countertops
Snowing in the north cascades and one of the roses is blooming. 🌹
Our daughter started a cottage bake and candy shop in my kitchen a few years ago, but this year she was getting more orders for everything. My guestroom is covered in fancy chocolates and candies. And I woke up to new brownies and honeycomb candy on the stove! She makes asstd boxes of candy and cookies for her friends and we get the bloopers which haven't been in big supply since she gets better. She also makes custom cakes which are amazing. SHE HATES COCONUT! So does my Brother in law! The rest of us love coconut!
You and Mary Carl could put together a cookbook. Another great school project.
Last year I started raising chickens ..only 15 but enough eggs for my family and friends...I want to thank MaryCarl for her inspiration which led me to get chickens. I'm 56 and a young lady of her age inspiring me..lol..I love it. Thank you MaryCarl 😊, I have learn alot. It's been over 30 yrs since I lived on a farm, and raised chickens, .. boy didn't realize how I missed it. We bought 3 acres a year ago which is sufficient enough for 15 chickens. I did raise 29 meat chickens last year. MERRY CHRISTMAS YA'ALL..
We eat turkey on Thanksgiving, ham at Christmas, and pork roast on New Year's day. This has always been our tradition. Also I make chicken and dumplings on these holidays. We always have leftovers to eat for a while after the holidays. Mmmmm!
Yes to the Christmas video, a nice treat! YES, the video for teachers and students.
For years our tradition growing up was Lasagna with a full meat sauce for Christmas. MY father was 100% Italian and that's just how we did Christmas. Since Ive grown up, once we started doing Christmas away from my family, it has evolved and many years I did Christmas dinner for plenty of family and friends I always did Turkey, Ham and Stuff Shells with ALL the fixings for each main course. This year it's just myself and the boys and THEY decided for Ham and Turkey breast for Thanksgiving and now for Christmas they have requested a nice Roast Beef with all the fixings (especially mashed potatoes). How can I say NO?! Just ROAST BEEF? Ohhh no problem make my life sooo easy! The animals all get a little treat and we all celebrate together!
Some hens just like to sleep in the nestboxes. There is often a problem-- many ways of addressing. Chickens in the wild are ground-nesters and they don't perch, they sit on branches. That's why flat 2x4s are the preferred form for chicken roosts.
Where I grew up, we always had a Turkey for Christmas. But now I don't eat animals. I know farmers don't like to hear that. But I do eat a lot of vegetables, and I love flowers. So you're good in my book!
DON'T PLAN ANYTHING AHEAD OF TIME! Your spontaneity is your charm! Maybe have your ribs, Jason for New Year's Dinner! I think you might have drafts at night in the coop since if has a screened floor. Maybe with Mary Carl's food preferences, you could have her cook with you or have her cook a meal once in a while. Children are more apt to eat what they cook! Does she like regular pizza? (I wonder if all the medicines she took as a young child somehow changed her taste buds?) Just my thoughts! God Bless!
We used to always do ham for Christmas and Turkey for Thanksgiving. Now as the kids are older they like ham for Thanksgiving and we change for Christmas. Sometimes we have Italian food, we've done bbq, and sometimes Mexican food. So a brisket sounds wonderful!
Well I love that MC is learning how to drive at her age. I also learned to drive around 10 years old..1972 Ford pickup. 3 on the tree!
Learning that clutch was so much fun. Then I drove a 68 bug at my Daddys in the summers.
MC is just wonderful.
I would be her Auntie Tena if she lived near me. We would be thick as thieves. I'm Auntie to sooooo many young folks. Young ones and Elderly are my favorite. I have always been drawn to them. I love to talk to older people they have so much knowledge that we need. I wish more people took time to allow them to talk and share their stories.
I'm so over Covid. Here it is Christmas and I miss going to the nursing homes to take little gifts and visit with folks that have been tucked away and basically forgotten. The nursing homes are a sad depressing place. I would ask all your viewers to go visit their nursing homes when they are allowed.
We're losing the last of what we all refer to the greatest generation. Anyway....rambling thoughts.
Merry Christmas to you all and sweet MC.
Funny I call all my young friends little nuggets.
I would have to get MC a different nickname. Nugget is spoken for at your place.
