    What a deal for this price! I remember what crap was on the beginner-guitar market as i started playing guitar 35 years ago. Shure the Gibson is a dimension better then the HB but never 10 times what the price says. I’m pretty shure that other good companies like Gretsch or Ibanez are even harder opponents for Gibson and unbeatable for its price. But for a beginner or for a third guitar a very good choice.

    Great and fair comparison! I bought the HB 35 Plus, even though I own the Gibson ES 335 (1963 Reissue). As one can clearly hear in your video, the HB sounds somehow lifeless, because the fine overtones of the ES are missing. This is why I replaced the pickups of the HB by high end Schaller PU's, which made a considerable difference. Now I use the HB for rehearsals with my band in order to avoid scratches on my Gibson.

    I just ordered my HB35 on Monday for 169 Euro as a cyber week deal and Wednesday there she was! The built is spotless, action and intonation has been set up perfectly! I always wanted to try a semi hollow and now I have one.
    I probably will change the tuners as the G string is really fickle to tune, however, once the guitar is in tune it stays in tune pretty well!

Ma con altre della stessa fascia si...Personalmente preferisco la HB, regge bene il confronto, non cambia molto se il capotasto è osso o no .se si ascoltassero al buio, la differenza non la senti, nessuno ha un orecchio cosi sensibile

      The tuners are actually quite decent. They're probably a 12 to 1 ratio, so a bit course, but otherwise fine. I decided not to replace the ones on mine. I did replace the buttons with plastic ones though, to try to alleviate some of the neck dive problem. It helped a little.

    I bought the 35 (lefty model) rather than the 35 Plus because I prefer black to red, and dots to block inlays. I figured I'd replace the pickups anyway. And this video confirms what I've been hearing with mine. They sound a lot better than I expected, but still, just a bit dull (and the bridge pickup is a little microphonic). Just as an experiment, I'm going to replace the magnets with Alnico 5 and see where that takes me before I do anything else.

    Both guitars sound good if you play them.
    One remark about the HB-35: I have one and a magnet sticks firmly to the bridge, so it's not made from cast.

    • @heinrichpeffenkoffer4894

    The HB is very convincing. But the Gibson is just brutal..! I've learned that HB's quality control has improved seriously in recent years and it is Wilkinson (Vintage) that produces their guitars. So probably they make even better instruments today.

  • @totallyunmemorable
    @totallyunmemorable 6 месяцев назад +1

    My biggest problem with the HB35 is the neck dive. It's a major issue, in my opinion. I'm left-handed so I don't get to play a lot of guitars that others take for granted. I've played guitar for half-a-century, but I have yet to play a 335. So, I can't say how the Gibson compares, but the double rod truss rod and maple neck make for one heck of a heavy neck on the HB. I was constantly having to reposition it when playing until I took a piece of heavy metal rod that I had laying around and alien taped it to the guitar. I'm planning, when I get time to do it, to drill into the guitar butt at the strap button location and glue in a four inch long, 3/4" thick piece of lead rod (capped off with a one-inch long piece of wood dowel to hold the strap button). Yes, it will be heavy, but at least I won't have to keep fighting the neck dive. If you don't want to do the same to yours, you might consider: 1) replacing the tuner buttons with plastic ones, 2) replace the knobs with Tele knobs (they're heavy), 3) install a Les Trem, 4) and/or some sort of heavy tailpiece (like the Gibson Lyre tailpiece that came with the Gibson Vibrola, or something similar).

    • @MefreGuitar
      @MefreGuitar  3 года назад +2

      Thanks for your comment! ... the price difference in my opinion cannot be entirely justified, but let's not forget that Gibson made the history of the guitar ... in the price as well as the superior woods, superior electronics, etc., we also pay the brand buying a little piece of history of the electric guitar ... and in particular the ES 335 was a pioneering and legendary model.

      @MefreGuitar  2 года назад +2

      Ciao Alberto, si una volta ho provato la HB 35 plus anche se non ho avuto modo di fare un video dedicato. La sensazione che ho avuto è che a livello sonoro non si discostasse molto dalla HB35. Per quanto riguarda il genere che vuoi fare, considerando che userai suoni HI Gain, è risaputo che più carichi distorsione e più il suono diventa compresso e quindi va ad influire sempre meno la particolarità timbrica della chitarra. Mi spiego meglio, se metti chili e chili di distorsione, estremizzando il discorso, noterai sempre meno differenze tra una chitarra di pregio ed una chitarra economica. Sui pick up non saprei dirti se hanno meno output della HB35, però potrai sempre compensare con il gain di effetti ed ampli. Detto questo sia la HB35 e la HB35 plus restano delle ottime chitarre nella loro fascia di prezzo e oltre. La cosa importante è che non hanno difetti di liuteria e settate correttamente diventano delle chitarre stabili che non ti daranno problemi mentre suoni. Un saluto!!!

    Thanks for the comparison.
    I'm going to buy the hb35+.
    Presumably the hb you plaied it has the factory settings and strings gauge against your 335 that has your personal one.
    In terms of playability what is better and what is worst ? (Comfort, strain , agility, consistency across the neck)
    What action height in mm respectively both have?
    About the tone this is strictly personal as in a complex rig on a blind test guess which is which.

    • @MefreGuitar
      @MefreGuitar  3 года назад

      before running test, I did a complete and correct setup on the HB 35 in order to be able to make a comparison on par with Gibson 335. In fact the factory HB comes with good strings (D'Addario 10-46), but it still needs to be done the setup. On both guitars the action is about 2.5mm at the 12th fret on the 6th string and 1.5mm on the 1st string.
      Overall I can tell you that the HB has excellent playability and is in some ways more comfortable in terms of weight and balance than the Gibson 335.
      So go easy with the purchase!
      Thanks for your comment!

    La differenza di suono c'è ovviamente... E sono sicuro che anche qualitativamente e sotto le dita siano ben diverse. Tuttavia la HB mantiene comunque una certa qualità che considerando il prezzo irrisorio non è per nulla male. Sia riguardo la costruzione sia riguardo il suono. Io non ho mai avuto una semiacustica ma sto pensando di prendere proprio una di queste Harley Benton per capire se può fare per me questo tipo di chitarra. Come te, penso siano destinate a questo le chitarre Harley Benton e simili: a chi vuole una prima chitarra o chi come me suona da anni ma vuole sperimentare qualcosa di nuovo senza spendere una fortuna

    Tbh entirely the Gibson is better. But in a mix and on stage I defy anyone to hear a difference. Now if you’ve got 3,000 euros hanging about with nothing to do you go for the best but if you’re like 99.9 % of home guitar players who’ve got tight budgets and you go for the Harley Benton I guarantee you will like it better!!!!!! Why? 1 it will sound great and will get better with time, ( ageing of woods, pups ect) 2 it cost you nothing so no pain! 3 you won’t have to insure it!!!!!! 4 you don’t have to worry about slight dinks!!!!!
    5/ you can buy different Harley Bentons like the fabulous cst 24 ( I have 2, bloody brilliant guitars, I feel are better than prs se as Roswell pups are better.)
    6/ don’t have to worry about fret wear as you could buy another hb for the price of a fret job.
    In a word you can’t loose. Harley Benton guitars ROCK!

      I am very sorry for your hb 35!
      unfortunately the construction standards of the HB are not always constant.
      I happened to try two examples of the same HB model and find differences in build quality.
      The problem of the pick-up not working, however, can be easily solved. maybe it's just a wire that has unsoldered.
      before changing the pick up I would try a repair from a technician in your place.
      If, on the other hand, it is a faulty pickup, then you must necessarily replace it. a pick up stops working when there is a break in the wire that constitutes the internal winding and it is difficult to repair ... it is not convenient.
      Thanks for your comment! let me know if you can fix your HB35.
