So I decided to check it out during the CR high season and loved it there. All 5 of the countries I went to there gave me 90 days upon arrival, after that you are free to travel as you please within that country and if you want to stay longer just do a boarder run. I applied for a one year student visa in Colombia and it was approved in two weeks all via email and when I went to get my identity card and passport stamp in only took about 35 minutes at the immigration center. Since I had already made many friends and felt at home there it wasn't an easy decision to leave but when the travel restrictions finally started to lift I decided to resume my travels. Or maybe come back and the whole checkpoint is closed and your motorbike is gone and you have to find the impound yard several kilometres away and continue your escapade until well after dark 😆

If you had a copy of the registration and a tax disc you would have been ok. Saying that, these "check points" are just fleecing centers, and if you are a tourist and don't speak Thai, they'll scare most into paying up. Best approach is to note where checkpoints are located and go around them. They rarely move to different, spontaneous locations. A summary: Valid license (international or Thai) Copy of registration Tax disc

Pattaya, you can absolutely use local traffic, Baht bus and motor taxy , no extra ordenary costs . I life upcountry when i stay Thailand , no commuter service there . If i get closer to town i will get fined . Anyway , in Thailand you need next to your international license also the Thai license , it is the only valid 1 . No a Beach Road cheapie! Ultimately my own fault for assuming vehicle reg documents were on the bike. You live and learn and it’s something that I will triple check next time I rent a bike. So, you did not make shure you got a copy of registration and insurance. You got caught and had to pay. Make positive they give you a copy next time. That is about $12.00 US. In the US it would have cost you $250. You got off easy.
As I’ve said previously in essence it was an oversight on my part to assume that the bike had it’s correct docs attached and it was a first time for me that it didn’t. But one lives and learns and I can live without the £10 I was fined. Thanks for watching

Well then you take a trip on the motorbike cab which is sitting right there waiting for you to provide you service to an ATM and then to the police station and stand in line pay the fine and then all the way back to get the key and ride away with the motorbike. Or maybe come back and the whole checkpoint is closed and your motorbike is gone and you have to find the impound yard several kilometres away and continue your escapade until well after dark 😆
As the reply said. They will also go to atm if is cash on the spot.
Registration plus insurance for rented Motor bike
What’s the fine if get nicked without a driver licenses?
Number 6 don't rent a motorcycle ! Walk everywhere !
Or use the baht bus!!
I have a property over the dark side so it helps to be independently mobile
when I’m in Patts.
Better for health also.
So not a police issue, an issue with the dodgy rental business.
Or a renter not conscientious enough to check all the required paperwork is on the bike.
@@MyBelchyour points are duly noted!

I’m sure the police still have some discretion though and do not have to fine you for something so petty.
@@alistairtaylor4989 Exactly which makes it a Police being predatory issue and not the dodgy rental companies just being negligent.

I have been stopped about 5 times in 4 weeks, 3rd road beside hotel LK President, every other time at the flyover in south Pattaya, most times as soon as they see the IDP they look no further they didn't even look to see if the IDP was mine or not.
I don't think they can read it TBH.

We get smashed for Racism around the world. But in Thailang the Farang is singled out like an archery target. Its the worst thing about the country. Police corruption.
There are certainly plenty of stories to back up your comment.
From Jet ski scams with the Police escorting you to the atm to the finding a lost wallet on the floor in Khao San Road and after handing it in to police the owner mysteriously appears and says there’s 2000 baht missing!

A summary:
Valid license (international or Thai)
Copy of registration
Tax disc
When they establish “a traffic offence”
then they hold on to your driving licence until you come back with the receipt from the Police station to say you’ve paid the fine.So no real option but to pay up.

Rule #1. Don't rent a motorbike in Pattaya. It is NOT a necessity.

Is that a driving license you have or a motorbike license?
My UK license covers driving up to 125cc bike but what you see there is my International driving permit which you must have to drive in Thailand (presuming that you don’t have a Thai driving licence).

Thai license not to difficult to get , more paperwork and time then getting it , but this way is the only way to avoid being fines ( if you do have the registration )
I get hold today (17th Oct.) but no helm,no driver license, no passport he take note leave me go told me go the police station, I did few hours later get fine 500 bath so back to the place where they hold me, and scooter gone they take it 5 km away cat it back neef to pay 300bsth for parking.
i would go to the rental and ask for the document for future and ask them to pay the fine (good luck with that bit)
ive been staying in pattaya 24 years never need a motorbike once.
If you have the patience for baht buses or are happy to pay motorbike taxis all day then that’s cool.

why the authority did not take action against the owner who rent motorbike.
Can’t really answer that but the rental guy came to the Police check and accompanied me to the Police station and was extremely apologetic however I still ended up with a fine!
Essentially this means you aren't really free in Thailand. None of the other countries in SEA do this.

What happens if you try to bribe the cop?
The main problem is there is almost no education on traffic laws or requirements to ride a motorbike or drive a car. A basic education could be watch this 8 minute RUclips video and the link has to be posted in the rental shop and on the rental document in Bold text. I wonder what benefit this brings
Even if you own your motorbike, make sure to have a copy of your “Green Book”. (paid 400bt for that mistake).
so why did you rent it without the motorcycle documents, was it from a back street cheapie !!
No a Beach Road cheapie!
Ultimately my own fault for assuming vehicle reg documents were on the bike.
You live and learn and it’s something that I will triple check next time I rent a bike.
I’ve always used cheapie rentals and never had issues with the bikes or bike docs.First time for everything.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Stop many times. Only had to show my thai drivers license and motorbike registration. Never asked to show passport.
Now they are telling people they have to carry photos of their visa and passport.

My recommendation is to not rent or ride motorbikes in Thailand. I've been to Pattaya many times and it's quite possible to get around with a bicycle which I took with me on the bus. If you insist on riding motorbikes in Thailand, make sure you have a credit card and passport when they eventually check you in to the hospital. Pray that your injuries are not too serious if you are conscious. 😀
There’s approximately 20,000 deaths a year on Thailands roads and I’m personally not sure I’d feel any safer on a bicycle than a motorcycle.
I’m no Valentino Rossi on the bike and I’m a pretty cautious driver to be honest but that doesn’t stop other drivers from driving like nutters!
