ex military for a long time, got psych issues as a result. the only time i have fun now is when im on holidays in SEA, you dont feel judged there anywhere near as much as you do in the west. i dont work and haven't for years so having to try and tell friends that i haven't really done anything for the last x months kicks you in the guts every time. over there nobody cares what you do or dont do for work, you dont get the looks from people that you get in the west. there doesn't feel like there is a blue print about what you should and shouldn't be doing with your life at that time in it. going to move over to SEA once the pups pass otherwise if i dont do something then it wont end well.
Bro I am right there with you, psych issues after my military service and havent felt any joy in life for years. I went to SEA and it was like the depression and grey had been lifted. I just need to make the move but I am scared. I am only 45 and fear how everything will be in 10-15 years
I quit drinking at 40 strictly because I didn't enjoy it any more and wanted better sleep. Watching these Pattaya channels I'm amazed that someone hasn't cornered the market on catering to health conscious tourists and retirees. It would require a different business model, maybe one in which lady drinks are fresh squeezed juice and wheat grass instead of booze. I've never been there, but when I retire in a few years I might like to come try it out. But one thing I won't do is start boozing again. There has to be a better way, a healthier way for all parties involved.

Pattaya can be great fun - but when you blur fantasy with reality that’s when the problems start. I’ve spent a lot of time travelling across Asia and considering spending a lot more time in Thailand next year. No matter where you are you have to a purpose in life - i run distance, ride motorbikes and have dabbled in Muay Thai. That’s how i keep sane.

This was such a good video man. I was born and raised in Thailand myself, and now I live and study in the UK. Some of the points you bring up really hit close to home and I agree 100% fully with your views on depression in Thailand as I now work in healthcare myself. I would love to buy you a coffee when I’m next down in Thailand next month. Keep up the good work
I went down the spiral living in Thailand drinking far too much. It is very important to live life like you do in a real 9-5 with proper worries. Enjoy the small things in Thailand
I have met so many immigrants that live there that have become alcoholics because basically they are bored and didn’t think retirement was going to be like that. They immigrate to Thailand, Vietnam or the Philippines because they cannot afford to retire in their home countries but, the “dream” retirement becomes a nightmare. Being on a fixed income becomes a challenge and the only way to make the days shorter are to drink all the time
Perhaps if they stopped drinking they could afford to buy an e-reader, or take up any one of a thousand low cost activities like chess, exercise, learning a language or learn to play a musical instrument. Anybody who spends their life drinking to 'make the days shorter' is basically just going through the motions of living at that point.
Great segment. I especially liked when you contrasted the expats on a budget to the big spenders on their two-week vacations. Alcohol: after a layoff, I went to therapy. The therapist told me that the best thing I could do to avoid depression was quit drinking. I thought, duh, and kept drinking. But eventually I quit and you know, she was 100% right. Not to mention you save a lot of time and money and are the same person all the time.

The plan for me is to resettle into a small community in or around a major city in Thailand try and learn the Thai language at least a little to get by, I don't drink or smoke so the bar scene is not at all on my radar, also I would say for me keeping a good distance from other ex-pact would be a good idea, not that I would stay away completely but not making it my regular thing is better as I try to fit more in with the local people, allowing them to understand I'm not just another ex-pact talking crap about their country. I'm really glad I've found this channel 'cause so far the only channels I've stumbled upon talking about the nightlife in Thailand were made by racist conservative nuts complaining how "Thai women" just "want money" (when they are only meeting bar girls whose JOBS are to get money from them) and how the culture of supporting their parents is bad, and everything is bad, and how Western women were supposedly "spoiled by feminism" and that's why they came to Southeast Asia in looking for "traditional women" (in red districts, ironically) but at the same time complaining all day long about Thai women and Thai culture. This channel gives the straight talk without being judgmental and let alone racist. Like, "That's the game and those are the rules of the game and you KNOW the rules".

Great video matey. Keep on going but defo have at least a day a week where you have down time away from screens.
Well done, you deserve it after everything you experienced on soi 6. Good luck, I'm sure you make it work 💯%
I'm really glad I've found this channel 'cause so far the only channels I've stumbled upon talking about the nightlife in Thailand were made by racist conservative nuts complaining how "Thai women" just "want money" (when they are only meeting bar girls whose JOBS are to get money from them) and how the culture of supporting their parents is bad, and everything is bad, and how Western women were supposedly "spoiled by feminism" and that's why they came to Southeast Asia in looking for "traditional women" (in red districts, ironically) but at the same time complaining all day long about Thai women and Thai culture.
This channel gives the straight talk without being judgmental and let alone racist. Like, "That's the game and those are the rules of the game and you KNOW the rules".
With this consistency, editing and authenticity, it's only a matter of time my friend. You can make a million pound 💷
Hahaha we will see bro 1000 would be great let alone 1 million 😂😂👍
Thank you
Good luck with the channel mate loving the videos 👍
Thank you brother more to come
