Apple could be forced to delay the iPhone 16, and honestly, that might be a good thing. With the new DOJ lawsuit and increased public scrutiny, Apple is facing some pretty big challenges right now. Should they push through and do what they've always done, or should they take time to press pause and do things right? A delayed 2024 iPhone launch could be better in some really big ways.

I totally agree. It’d be better to have new iPhones every 18 months instead of every year. In the meantime they could focus on improvements to iOS.

I think yearly is still great because everyone has a chance to upgrade whenever they see fit.
If I break my iPhone 11 now for example it’s just 6 more months to wait rather than another year to upgrade. Same reason why they come out with new versions of cars literally every year.

I'm also rocking the 13 mini, thinking of getting a Sony 5V next. Many things that drew me to iPhone are being undone (software stability, privacy- like when Apple sent voice recordings of it's users to a 3rd party company, speech to text to name a few) and it makes me wonder why I would stay.

I think the main issue with apple now is that they are not very innovative anymore and super expensive. All they do is upgrade the screen quality when it's already pretty decent, upgrade the camera quality, faster cpu, etc. There's really nothing "new" only upgraded. I used to buy every other iphone because the model would change pretty drastically, but now my 12 isn't much different than the 15 besides upgraded features. I'm glad they tried by doing the vision, but $3g for it is not gonna do it. Also from what I've seen it's not something that's really needed, and still needs more work. They need to find a way to put new features into the mobile phones so it doesn't get boring, but I feel like it's pretty much at it's peak. I love apple and hope they keep doing well.

Interesting idea a 18month update cycle. One question is how would that affect carrier financing and sales? Most phones are on a 24-month basis. Would carriers go to a 36-month financing and lower the per month charges? or would they go to an 18-month financing cycle an increase the monthly charge. Or they stay at a 24-month cycle but shrink the trade in cycle to 8 months rather than twenty-four before your opportunity to trade in evaporates. This would then require you to pay the balance of the contract out when you upgraded at 18 months. Would this then move consumers to shift to a 4-year upgrade cycle or adopt a Fibonacci cycle with increasingly longer upgrade times but a more stable feature set consisting of those features that survive multiple product cycles.

Since my first iBook in 2006, I thought of Apple who does their own thing. They don't move with the rest of the market, which is risky, but that they are able to design and innovate the right way and bring out products that actually work. Then before we could blink, we were seeing iPhones every year, and it's nice but I'd rather have them return to them doing it their own way and design and innovate for that reason. I would be more impressed if they held an apple event every 18-24 months and come out with these great looking, solid products with features, tools, etc. Plus the event would be that much more of a "treat". I would look forward to them. Same goes for the MacBooks and iPads. For this reason, that's why I'm still rocking a 12 pro, and probably will for the next 3 years.

I have an iPhone for the closed system. If I wanted an Android, I’d buy an Android. I don’t want to be forced to have an Android with an Apple logo on it which is where it’s going with unnecessary government involvement. That’s not freedom of choice. That said Apple is overpriced and the yearly cycle is ridiculous. 2-3 years with significant changes is more sensible but like every company whether phones, computers or TVs it’s about bleeding every cent out of people willing to pay for every upgrade. Longer cycles would still allow for plenty of improvement via software, devices would be more refined and issues sorted out, there’s always small hardware revisions to existing but current models for this reason.

    • @hobosnake1
      @hobosnake1 2 месяца назад +2

Man. You've really sipped the marketing sauce. Being able to sideload things does not make your specific iphone any less secure or closed off. You don't have to engage in sideloading. It's weird how apple folks think Android is ridden with viruses and problems. That's only if you actively seek out illicit APKs and run them on your phone and disregard many security warnings to do so. You absolutely have to know you're playing with fire to even do anything bad to your phone. None of this makes android or iphone less secure. Iphone is more secure overall, don't get me wrong, but your average person will pretty much never sideload anything. Like what is your issue? Too many options? Is it going to overload your brain or something? I doubt it will. (not insulting you btw, just making a point)

@@hobosnake1not because of the iOS software. I would argue the android OS is more secure as it’s open source and people fix the bugs. There hardware is much more secure then Android phone makers hardware used in their phones.

    • @xJI00
      @xJI00 2 месяца назад

Appreciate your points. I don’t follow any of the marketing. I’ve been on Blackberry, I’ve been on Android and have settled on Apple based on my own experience. The issue isn’t limited to side loading. This lawsuit is seeking to put holes in numerous functions. The less closed a system is the more risk that comes with it, surely you can’t disagree with that. In regard to side loading, whilst I agree that it may not be used by the average user and in fact is only in the EU at this point anyway, it would add risk, even if you don’t use it personally. Once a threat uses a mechanism get onto a device, it can move to other devices by different means, so everyone’s risk factor increases.

18 month cycle instead of 12 won’t change a thing. For instance, there’s been 4 years since the iPhone 12, and the design has almost not changed ever since. It all comes down to Apple’s choices, not about them needing more time to refine things.Time is not a factor here, imo

  • @grospoulpe951

I don't think so; at least an incremental better version, with more AI added to the SOC (TSMC N3 ?), better polishing, and, maybe, a new iPhone SE... everything optimized for (generative) AI...
... and new airpods (standard and max)
anyway, time will tell (and, on my side, I'm really happy with my iPhone SE 2020: not to big, was not expensive; a bigger screen would be nice, though (keeping around the same form factor))
9:20 that's because you think about upgrading every year; but if you are in a 2-year cycle (I know someone who do that with his Samsung S Ultra, upgrading every 2 years), the improvement are there (upgrading from an iPhone 14 to a iPhone 16, or from the 15 to the 17, etc...)
In fact, I'm doing the same the same with the iPhone SE... and you know what? from SE 2020 to SE 2022.. not much improvement (even if there were 2 years between them)... so, it's not time between model that seems to be important, but the improvement between them... and, I guess, there are much more improvement between model N and N+2, than between N and N+1

18-24 months for phones would be a good thing. The same goes for the software. Fewer bugs at launch would be a good thing. I haven't experienced many myself but I'd love to see more stability as opposed to quicker releases. I've been with Apple since the 11 series and have also used a few Androids as a back-up. My latest is the S24. Nice enough phone, and the cameras are excellent but I prefer Apple these days. Personally, I think we've become somewhat spoiled with all these yearly releases that we forget to APPRECIATE what we have and what it takes to put these out. If some of those I run across are so bleeping smart, start your own company and show us all how it's done. And hey, I'm just as guilty in the upgrade department. I didn't upgrade this year. I decided I'd been a knucklehead and wasted enough money doing that. Staying with my 14 Pro Max for the foreseeable future.

When Steve died, it'd have been good to keep Jony Ive.
The moment Steve left to a better place and Jony Ive to God knows where? Apple lost direction and it was just a matter of time.
Steve Jobs must be turning in his grave. Apple is pandering to the LGBTQ community and diversity than focusing and leading the world in creativity.
I'm just asking your question but if Apple wants to get back on track, Jony Ive should be persuaded to come back.

If Apple actually listened to their customers the useless Dynamic Eyesore would be gone and replaced by a tiny punch hole, we would have a fingerprint reader somewhere on the iPhone and RCS on the iPhone would have been allowed years ago and USBC would have been done years ago as well.
As a lifelong Apple user I get really annoyed by Apple focusing on making money instead of innovation and giving their customers what they’re asking for.
I find myself constantly thinking about switching to Samsung on a regular basis.

Switched back and forth between Apple and Samsung. Since Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, there is no need to ever switch back. They finally have a long lasting battery, great camera and all the other gimmicks Apple never had. And the prices are a bit less expansive + you get tons of money back for your old phone if you upgrade yearly. By that i save 800-1k. Depends on how much store you want.
So its worth thinking about it.
Samsung also improved their eco System and Samsung Dex is by far the better option for shared Display work

Apple over promising and then not delivering ? really ? look at samsung and google in recent years , they all do it , as for the sameness on apple devices , by all means show us some huge stand out features that google and samsung have added to their line up in recent years ? Galaxys for the most part look very similar to galaxys 3 or 4 years ago , and pixels not much different .
Google ..... a temperature sensor oh joy just what i always wanted :) :) :)
take away camera tweaks , and chipset updates that you get religiously on every single phone model from every single brand every year ,
and by all means show us some magic feature that other phones have added that apple has not .
I`m just saying , basically they ( all brands ) all just do incremental tweaks these days .
i own galaxys iphones and a pixel 8 pro , i do not see a device with one single magic feature that makes me say oh what a wonderful device Stuff the rest , they all do basically the same shit , just with different packaging .

Price. If you buy a new iMac or Macbook air, you get a small hard disk. To upgrade to a bigger drive, costs a lot via Apple. However you can buy an external drive for 20 percent of what Apple charges you. People wonder, why is the exact same products 4 or 5 times more expensive if I buy from Apple? iPhones only ever get more expensive, but with nothing new to justify the price increases. The vision pro is a ridiculously overpriced product. Their aging monitors are also insanely overpriced. People are fed up with being scammed. Apple arrogantly overcharges. People are now really fed up.
Lack of innovation. Same products with minor tweaks for many, many years. No reason to spend on overpriced products with nothing exciting. I find it amazing that such a huge company doesn't have anyone with new ideas. You can argue that since the passing of Steve Jobs, Apple has been stuck in a cycle of just churning out the same things. I would argue this and I think I would be right. Where is the innovation? Where are the new products? I see nothing new. Nothing good. Meanwhile Chinese companies and others are experimenting with new designs and concepts. While products such a fold phones aren't my thing, they are at least trying. Apple....nothing.
