Longest journey I made in my iOn was 800km / 500 miles, London to Glasgow. In summer so didn’t need the heater. Took 3 days (got marooned at a failed charger) or would only have taken two. Anyone else? Two French guys drove the Citroen version around the world. Took them 8 months.
😲
Would be interested in the whole importing thing especially if theres any value in importing a used ev from GB or NI.
Video coming soon once I get VRT finished
I have an I-MiEV, the usable capacity was 14.5 kwh originally. My 12yr old one still has 14kwh, or at least it takes 14kwh, probably near 13 usable kwh. Does around 60 miles on a charge, after promising 68.
I bet you reliably charge from 80% on the granny charger that allows the car's BMU to perform internal cell balancing
Definitely interested in seeing how far you get with this in terms of refurbishing the battery etc - it'd be a great runabout for city commuters.
Plans are already afoot
I wish you the best of luck with your new purchase. Good idea for the channel. Keep us posted on how you get on.
Full marks for bravery. Can't wait for the coast to coast.
We are ALL waiting for the coast to coast range test!! Could be a very long video...
Had one myself for 2-3 years. Loved it and miss it. I used to call it the mini-Espace for the passenger room and you can get two carryon luggage suitcases in the boot. Mine made a fun “Poweee!” sound at around 12kmh. You got a barga8m, I think even though it obviously needs work. Have fun.
The coast to coast video will be an interesting challenge 🪫
It's a lot of car and technology for £1500!
My memory of the iMievs was that some people used to keep a hot water bottle and a scarf/pair of gloves for the winter, rather than dare run the heating!
Heating is not it's friend. Newer versions had heated seats...
Really enjoy looking at the rock-bottom end of the EV market. Keep us updated! Thanks :)
Sure thing!
Very cool Derek, looking forward to see how you get on with this project.
Thanks John
Very cool! The real EV bug. You have to keep it red. I had no idea the French co-opted the iMiEV. I know a couple of people who love their iMiEVs, including my friend whose son owns Electric Vehicles Canberra and they did a complete battery swap on his.
I'm leaning towards a complete swap but need to do more research
Well done. Acnice snd interesting project. Nearly 160k kms and still alive.....We just passed 150k in our162 BMW i3 . SO WHO WORRIES ABOUT BATTERIES LASTING.
best of look. Looking forward to see how you get on.
Great mileage on the i3 Des!
@NevoEVReviewIreland just a squeak from the front right suspension and dust protectors on the front shock absorbers were my only repairs so far. It's the REX and in winter get an engine fault light which goes off as quick as it comes on, even when engine not being used. I think it's because the engine only gets used to maintain it. I have only put in €100 of petrol in 4 years.
fact that such a car is still going with very old battery tech gives a lie to the fact batteries in new cars now wont last.
Exactly and with better batteries they'll last even longer
@@NevoEVReviewIreland and daily we seem to get news of a new battery tech or development of old ones. We are in a revolution and until we top line development (see mobile phones now with just incremental changes), then a lot of naysayers are going to look foolish in 3 years time. I work in IT and this is typical development cycles of any new 'thing' and look at the difference in just 10 years.
Absolutely!
Couldn't agree more with you. I, just today was looking at some old phone video clips. They were taken on an iPhone 4s in March 2014. The phone looks similar to phones of today in many many ways. However, the tech inside the device from them is a world away from what came just 10 yrs later. Really, the generation of EV's from 10 yrs ago was a technological milestone and despite the battery degradation issue in EV's back then the vehicles were an amazing advance over ICE cars. No first generation tech ever gets it right first time out. Remember 1st gen CD's, you couldn't look at them without them skipping! Perfection takes time.
The current gen. of EV's coming out are almost there, but give it another 5-10 with better battery tech and we'll have 400+ mile range and 5-10 charging.
I really don't get the haters with all the false claims they make, which all sound as though come straight from the pages of the Daily Scum, etc. There seems to be no independent thinking going on. The haters ability to jump on a bandwagon with next to no evidence is also very concerning, no one facts checks anymore! Take the Luton Airport carpark fire last year. Before the whole structure was alight there was a person posting a live video on YT stating "it's the fault of an EV" I disputed this and got really attacked. However, within a few hours the cause of the fire was identified as being the electrical system on a diesel vehicle. There was no retraction of the false claims and as of a couple of months ago the video is still up and attracting anti EV comments!
This almost feels as though people actively fight taking on truthful information, in the same way Flat Earthers do. Bizzare.
I'll be getting my first EV in the Autumn, depending on waiting list, but it'll be worth the wait. My retirement car😊
This is a great idea can't wait to see the follow-up
Thanks!
A friend had one of these, was ideal for his local popping around town - I did a 120 mile winter round trip in it to get a recall carried out, wasn't much fun! I think it was a better car than the smart EQ forfour he replaced it with. The lower lights on the front are daytime lights not fogs.
Noted thanks! 120 miles sounds like a challenge
Brilliant project, Derek ! Will keep an eye out when you get it back on the road. A Quick Look at Wikipedia just now, shows the a pic of the extra two drive selector positions, eco and B, seems like some variants had three options. Eco seemed to be also called City and B for hills !! Odd why PSA would have blanked them off. Wonder if there’s any Regen on the D position ? Guess you’ll soon find out! At least, you’ll have more room in that, than the Twizy !!
There is regen on the D position. I use the B most of the time, I don't really notice much difference.
Thanks for the comments both.
The iMiev forum jas lots of information from owners.
Some owners are figuring out how to replace the battery cells with new cells from CATL which will increase the capacity to about 30kWh. The tricky part is persuading the BMS to recognise the higher capacity. ☮️
Always fanceied a used Mitsubishi iON. ESB E-Cars branded one was the 2nd EV i ever seen after i test drove a Leaf a few weeks after it came out.
I think they are keeping them for themselves
Weird to see that the UK had a different dashboard than continental Europe. AC controls are vertical in the centre console. Cup Holder look totally different. Looking forward to see what you will do to the car. 😀
Yes, all the brochures I have seen have the European dash
Seeing this progress will be interesting👌
I had an IMiev a few years ago, I loved the weird shape and its speed off the line....terribly compromised however, I never used the heating system for very long in the winter - it was the heated seat and a plug in 12v heated blanket for frosty winter trips of 55 ish miles!! I did love it though!
Great idea best of luck with the car,,,, im really looking forward to listing to how the story unfolds
Thanks for the comment Bernard
Well done Derek - the "electric ladybug" is a great project - you'll enjoy a little tinkering to repair/replace a few bits and pieces..
Will we see it in NEVO livery maybe (would help cover up some of the aesthetic defects)?
Ha ha "aesthetic defects" is putting it mildly
Good idea. Do note all details before refurb and compare what you get after. Interesting to see how much life you can coax out of it and total cost after all updates. Lets see what €5k ? Might get you ...
Exactly!
I wonder what the battery degradation is over time. New great project.
For sure, a full video on battery stuff
What fun. Thank you.
Best of luck, Derek! It makes Leafs of a similar age seem like luxury EVs! And it shows how much EVs have improved in the last decade. The price was great. You could probably scrap the car and sell the battery for a profit.
That's beautiful I love it. I think the Mitsubishi version was definitely for sale here as the local Mitsubishi dealer had some but don't think they sold any here. It was very expensive here for what it was. Would love this so if you decide to sell it give me a bell.
Nice! Perfect inner city car, wish i could find something similar.
Thanks! I'm looking forward to owning it
Congratulations on buying your first EV Derek. I am so looking forward to your journey with this project . It's great to see that this car is still going and only need a little tlc to get back to It's original form. ❤
I own one of these Ions in blue. I'd be interested to see if you can get more range with any battery TLC.
Type 1 to type 2 adapter is on adverts at the moment,
Am very interested to see how this turns out. I'd love an e-NV200 (to replace my diesel NV200 Nissan van), but the up-front costs are prohibitive. An e-cargo bike is also an option I'm considering.
Loving an e-cargo bike too. Have reviewed many in the channel. Lots of e-NV200 around but not sure how many for sale. Can't be gotten new anymore
nice cobwebs there !!
I think I'm going to charge rent
nice one Derek, good alternative to Gen1 leaf or zoe, i wonder could you get a module repaired? Uk might be easier than Ireland for that, but worth asking the forums
Super Derek. Welcome to the EV owners club. Looks like a fun project and it’s not an SUV 😅
Only took a few years!
Keep it the same colour just touch it up. Its the original colour and its beautiful. Looks great in that colour.
reminds me of the Tata Nano EV
Thanks for the comment. I need to go check it out.
Now this one is worth that coffee, well wear 🎉

Is there any sense to run EV in Ireland with that 36-39c electricity cost?
For me yes with zero tailpipe emissions
I'm trying to keep an eyes on these. More durable and efficient than a LEAF. Rare like hens' teeth
The onboard chargers though can pop a fuse and the OEM dealerships are backstabbers though.
There's some ev shops from Finland, Netherlands and Slovakia or Australia seem to offer complete module replacements that upgrades with double the capacity for ~€7000 *_*faints_** but cheaper than any eUp
I'm going to do a few videos with it and battery cell repair or replacing will be a big part of it
@@NevoEVReviewIreland I'll be watching
I get random ads even on RUclips of Chinese products, including battery cells that are a replica of the NV50 cells but with way more Amp hours.
So dunno how much the import fees will be for 88 cell blocks.
Car... Certical? 🤔
Hoping that the actual Car Vertical spot it and want to sponsor me 😉

Well one of my guesses was correct lol
It was, I should have pixelated the image more 🤣
Why did you want it?
Just for running along locally.
why not 🙂
