Dude, you are a fucking legend. AboutOliver's Playthrough of Prey is also so, so good. Bastard clocked the ending at literally the first possible hint.
Consider this another vote for Oliver, I tried to watch as he was playing but real life got me too far behind. I would love to see a supercut version here.
Love how he's like "JFK survivng stopped all human progress" when he's on a spaceship in orbit around the moon just because the visual style is art deco
Glad Womble enjoyed Prey so much, he really hits the nail on the head with the reasons why it's such a gem. Also love the amount of foreshadowing in this, a very fun watch. Looking forward to the possibility of more Prey supercuts!
Womble tends to really like exploring and trying different things, so Prey being open to that kind of horizontal thinking is prob why he vibes it with.
51:04 "Does it look like this image here?" -at the same time as one of the humanoid mimics walking into frame in the background was interesting timing lmao
Love how his 40k brainrot is so strong he immediately goes "Aliens are building something? They are probably trying to summon Gravemind, fuck everything, exterminatus!" And he's right too.
1:58:00 gotta love when he answers his own questions without realizing it. "The creatures are weak to the alien NMs, so why isn't anyone using them?" Followed immediately by "the alien NMs are made from the creatures, I don't wanna put that stuff in my head!"
I love how Womble was so scared of every other Phantom to completely walk around them, while for me it was about getting out enough resources for ammo management lmao.
I love how it's hinted at for most of the game that they breached containment AAAGES ago. The photometer, the fuses, mimics being in places that haven't even been ACCESSED since before the outbreak, it's amazing how subtly executed this game is.
this supercut is amazing, but above all else, im grateful that he enjoyed the ending. i know a lot of people dislike it because it makes the game feel like a fake out but i think the idea of the test is thematically established in the game's opening so i've always felt that it was a really interesting ending.
Its also hinted at in every death if i am not mistaken, the code in red apears showing the simulation failing Then there is this cripted "they are laying to you" moments
Really hopeful for the next game from the group that the Prey director and other Arkane members created (Wolfeye studios). They made one game already but I’m struggling to get into it
Arkane Lyon is still around it’s just the Austin devision that shut down. They’re making a Blade game right now and they’re the ones who made dishonored and prey. Arkane Austin made Deathloop and Redfall
Eeeey I'm all for non-Outer Wilds Supercuts, some difference is good once in a while, heh. Plus this is SovietWomble playing one of my all-time favorite games! Woo!
Anyone else realize at the stary when they asked Womble to "hide" in the cell there was just a chair and they were expecting him to change into the chair to "hide" and hence when he didnt thats what started throwing off the readinds bc "it was acting human".
Yeah, the writing in this game is shockingly bad. I'm hoping they subvert the twist they've set up, because they've just been hammering us over the head with obvious clues.
Prey was such a rockstar of a game. like genuinely one of the BEST rpgs to come out in the last decade and people still sleep on it. the Typhon are such an iconic enemy and genuinely feel so alien to boot. they got this weird ability to mimic any physical object but cannot sympathize with other living creatures i mean what a nightmare. the personal stories the whole station feels so lived in its crazy. AND the ONLY time "it was all a dream" feels like a more satisfying ending than your standard good, normal, bad, and secret endings. It brings it all in on one final choice and switches your team on you. did you do the right thing for the right reasons?
Huh, I overlooked this game, thought it was run-of-the-mill bs with nothing special to offer. But it actually looks dope and Soviet's commentary is fantastic too! Thanks for the upload!Edit: Forbidden popcorn
It also has a banger time loop DLC. Has a little bit of everything the main game has (combat, narrative, twists... maybe less philosophy...) but with a spin of time loop in a simulation. A lot of systems work better in DLC because you actually engage with a lot more tools and powers instead of using the same solution for every problem (like Morgan hacking every single door is how most people play the main game, despite the challenges to get around them being so interesting).
Thank you guys, definitely gonna try it out! Kinda spoiled the story for myself by watching this vid, haha, but I bet I'll still enjoy the game. Since Rdr2 and Cyberpunk, no game has made me feel that awesome immersion and curiosity, maybe this one will.
"It's very Bioshock" While I did spoil myself ending to this game, because of that very strong Bioshock feeling, I want to do opposite to what the voice in the radio tells me.
34:50 Alright, I have like 200 hours in this game. Genuinely one of my favorite games of all time. Furthermore, the Typhon (Phantoms especially) are some of the coolest designed monsters I've ever seen. And, in all that time, I had NO IDEA the Phantoms had actual words in their 'voices'. Actually blew my mind when I saw that subtitle pop up. I genuinely paused the video and booted up the game just to confirm that, yes, I somehow missed that on every single one of my playthroughs.
This was excellent. The game, Womble, Eelis' supercut, everything. Thank you for doing this, and I hope this means a new game's entered the rotation. If so, then this is just a suggestion, but Pat Stares At's playthrough of Prey, and his recent playthroughs of Dishonored 1 and 2, were both enlightening about how valuable Arkane really was.
One of my fav youtubers playing some of my fav games just when I get issues with Anxiety Yup this is so needed right now Ty for the upload of the Supercut Eelis :)
It's always really entertianing (and a little frustrating) watching people make an assumption and base their entire strategy off of that. Something something human psyche, I think, haha. Either way, thank you for this Womble supercut. Always a joy to see a new video from you, and always a joy to see more Womble!
It’s funny how Womble spends the entire game trying to guess the plot. Meanwhile the game’s like: “Hey, buddy, whole story and context are right here, just off the critical path.” What makes Prey a fitting bookend to the Shock series/genre, is how its ending takes the entire story and context it just told you and turns them both just sideways enough that a second playthrough is a genuinely rewarding experience. Edit: Womble’s self-righteous anger and justification are _so_ adorable here. Just the fact that he thought he accomplished something
Probably not the first to make this comparison, but the Typhon remind me of the ELS from the Gundam 00 Movie. -Alien species capable of mimicking and assimilating entities (though both methods are fairly different) -Can take on many different forms for different tasks -Hivemind-like means of coordination and communication -Initially can not understand the concept of their assimilation being fatal towards humans, as it is their sole means of contact (Though humanity eventually made peace with the ELS through Quantum Brainwave communication)
Hey man, I love your work! Having just rewatched Dodger's hobocop playthrough and now finding this, I'll be spending the next few hours with your work in the background. Cheers!
Cant believe he doesnt put his own playthroughs on youtube. I dont have a twitch which is where i assume you got the videos for these, but prey isnt even on his youtube at all. Silly
Was there no way to reduce the pixelization of the video? I am not complaining, more inquiring since RUclips is awful with breaking videos by worsening the video's quality,
this game is so underrated, I wish it had the succes to make a 2, Like maybe "take" earth back playing as a Morgan Doppelganger (lot of possibilities with Empathic Typhon able to take other persona)
I know that Womble will never see this, but it's genuinely kind of funny how he managed to get so many of the game's ideas and themes while still missing some of the biggest of them. He seems entirely unaware(or just missed it) that the point of everything as revealed at the end was an attempt to give Typhon Mirror Neurons, to make them "see" humans as actual living creatures rather than just resources to be used. To give them a sense of empathy. That's why Morgan and Alex are presented as so utterly incompetent in the game itself, so you end up wanting to side with the people. It's a test to see if you even CAN want to side with the workers and employees on Talos I. That's why he did everything, why he made the simulation, so that he could try to see if the Typhon can be communicated with on an equal level. Because, if they can be, maybe they have a chance of reversing or at least stopping what the Typhon are doing to Earth and Humanity as a whole.
SPOILERS It wasn't an illusion of choice, the player is just being judged compared to the original Morgan (who presumably either failed, or tried the Nullwave ending but Earth was contaminated anyway). I get his frustration, but he sits on his footage for years if he even edits it at all, while adding streams to his backlog much faster than he edits them. He streamed this game mid 2023 and all he's published so far is a 40 s clip. He streamed HL: Alyx mid 2021 and just last month he released an edit from a single chapter. I could go on.
He should really just outsource the editing of compilations. We'd get faster "official" compilations, SW would have more time for other stuff, the editor would get paid... Unless the compilations get such low views that ads wouldn't be able to compensate for the editor's fee (but then again, the time he'd be saving could also make him money).
SW has explained his reasoning behind his methods a million times on Twitch, go watch him there and you might understand that not everyone wants to manage a team of people. He also has his own website with almost all past games uploaded, free to watch and no ads.
You're asked to hide in a room that is empty, apart from a single chair and then immediately after they show you one of those mimic things hiding in plain sight... They better not try and play that like it's a twist.
it's nice that womble correctly interpreted the ending of the game instead of being mad that, supposedly, none of it mattered cause it was a dream
Dude, you are a fucking legend.
