One of the best courses on Blender out there. I am glad that I took this course. I learned hundreds of new things about the face and all credit goes to Kent's outstanding skill and knowledge of CG creation. He is a true veteran and I can't say enough about his philosophy of art. It is very rare when you come across a teacher who simultaneously instructs you how to do stuff and other technical details and presents his whole philosophy that he has acquired from working thousands of hours. Thanks, Kent Trimmel and CG Cookie.
Kent Trammell is extraordinary in this course! At no point did I feel lost or confused (aside from random Blender bugs which aren't Kent's fault) because he explains everything so in detail. Blender is such a dope program. I have had it for years and I am pretty bad at it :D I love making space, planet, and galaxy stuff on it but my laptop gets quite hot so I don't use Blender that much, but I wish I was an expert on it. Totally way better job than customer service at a call center...
I’ve bought this course and as I’m watching it, it got me curious if we’ll learn how to create wrinkle maps to animate a face, like sculpt smile wrinkles and bake those textures and only show those wrinkles when the mouth is smiling (either rigged with shape keys or bones) Because I don’t only want to make a portrait I want to rig it as well, if it’s not included would you consider making a part 2?
This would be the sole purpose for me to buy the course but since it's not included, I will sadly refrain from it. My goal is Vtube-style models that are fully rigged and deform nicely. Wrinkle maps are also on this To-Do list, but tutorials concerning this subject are hard to come by, even commercial ones.
Thank you so much sir... I was in a desperate need for a tutor online to learn Blender and it's really a blessing that youtube's algorithm showed me this video... Thanks again... LOVE FROM INDIA ❤❤❤
This is amazing! I actually clicked on this video cause I was gonna use blender and Unreal Engine because they are free and awesome and I wanna become a 3D artist one day and create amazing creations and get better and better at 3D projects and maybe get to the highest level I can get to. Another reason I have chosen Unreal Engine and Blender is because I heard that the company who makes Unreal Engine which is Epic Games has donated money to the Blender foundation for new features. This video was awesome! I am a beginner and I'm going to learn all the basics about Blender that I can and with my kids, and then hopefully buy a CG cookie subscription soon.
I think I'll try this course. I like to model fantastical stuff, but I never really learned how to make photorealism, especially when it comes to anatomy and skin texturing, I'm hoping that these lessons will be through and in depth enough that they can be applied to entire human body modelling
Awesome course. I'm planning on buying this course. But I do have 1 question. Do we make inside of the mouth? Like teeth and tongue, if not now do you add those parts in future in this course? And I really want to make portrait alive. That's cool right? I don't know face rigging (I do know basic rigging like spring, piston etc...) but I planning on learning face rigging too. A realistic face rigging course would be really helpful too like this. And dynamic hair too. Or If u guys already have course on rigging face please give course link. Thank you
I have several follow-up courses planned including full mouth cavity, various hair styles, achieving likeness, rigging, and more. I'm glad you found the anatomy reference file! Enjoy the course :)
@@khtrammell This is real marvelous course. Keep those lessons coming, looking forward into those too... If I have a chance I would give u hug. Love from India 🤍. Thanks again.
I've received a fair amount of conflicting feedback in this regard: Several people have called it "100% photorealistic" while many say it's not (and I know myself that it's not). Even if only a few viewers are convinced, I consider it a victory! The uncanny valley is a subjective and confusing place in my experience. In 2022 it's very easy to think images are 3D renders without being able to describe why. Reminds me of the original Iron Man (2008), when Jon Favreau kept pointing out the differences between the 3D suit and the physical suit. Eventually he confused the physical suit with the 3D one and that's when he knew it was good enough. To me the execution of a "perfect" 3D portrait isn't enough by itself. It needs the right context to convince the max number of people. Teaching how to create it in Blender is the worst context to convince people 😆
The quality of the work itslef is beyond me, I cannot even comment on that. All I'm thinking is that I'm really glad Blender is now capable enough to allow such high-quality productions.
I was honestly surprised when he revealed that he was using blender. Don't get me wrong, I love blender, but it's so hard to find realism tutorials that only use it. It's always zbrush ,maya, substance, and other paying programs.
Pretty much all of this was done solely in Blender? Wow! I've been a Max user for as long as I remember, but I'm looking more and more into Blender recently.
It helps a lot to have a basic-to-intermediate level of experience with Blender. The course comes with a list of recommended prerequisite courses available in the cgcookie library. The Bundle on the Blender Market also includes these prereq courses.
Rendering: Why has Blender got 4096 samples on the renderer? 128 is good enough for testing and 256-512 for final - we live in the age of AI noise reduction!
As an absolute Blender beginner who has literally done like two render until now, this whole process looks extremely intimidating no complex. I hope my professor covers this kind of stuff sooner or later xD
My suggestion if you want to do digital sculpting is to start with simple busts, focus on blocking first, then add in details and refine later. It takes time and practice but you'll get there. I'm still practicing and learning as well.

Very inspirational!
I have a question. Maybe someone else may answer this. So you sculpted an original model, then made a retoped low-poly model, then made a high-poly model out of LP to add all these skin details, etc. Basically, the question is, isn't original model good enough to add skin details?
Great question. The dynamic topology feature (format of the first sculpt) is ideal for sculpting major shapes from nothing. But it doesn't handle super high-poly counts as well as the mutires modifier. In my experience, a 1M poly dynamic topology starts to seriously lag the viewport. I typically need 10M+ polys to achieve appropriate pore-level detail and multires handles that quite well on the same hardware.
I can highly recommend this course. Comprehensive and detailed, but explained very clearly. It's a lot of work and will need you to invest the time and practice, but if you want to learn how to create CGI photorealistic portraits, this course is ideal.

I have 4GB ram and I want to do this 🤣🥲😭
Blender is such a dope program. I have had it for years and I am pretty bad at it :D
I love making space, planet, and galaxy stuff on it but my laptop gets quite hot so I don't use Blender that much, but I wish I was an expert on it. Totally way better job than customer service at a call center...
That's the laptop problem not the Software
tNice tutorials is detailed, its amazin thanks man!
one of the most impressive work I've ever seen done with blender's sculpting so far. congrats friend.
Thanks a lot! Very kind of you to say
Very excited for this, definitely going to be subscribing to CG Cookie to get access
I'm an artist, but I would love to get more into all faucets of Blender...😁
No better time than the present 👍
Amazing inclusive course! Now can you take it to the next level where the character talks and shows facial expressions?
Thanks, Claus! A facial rigging + animation follow-up course has been a popular request. Rest assured, it's on my dream course list :)
I’ve bought this course and as I’m watching it, it got me curious if we’ll learn how to create wrinkle maps to animate a face, like sculpt smile wrinkles and bake those textures and only show those wrinkles when the mouth is smiling (either rigged with shape keys or bones) Because I don’t only want to make a portrait I want to rig it as well, if it’s not included would you consider making a part 2?
hi
This would be the sole purpose for me to buy the course but since it's not included, I will sadly refrain from it. My goal is Vtube-style models that are fully rigged and deform nicely. Wrinkle maps are also on this To-Do list, but tutorials concerning this subject are hard to come by, even commercial ones.
I absolutley recommend this course ^^ it was worth every cent
This model is higher resolution than my eyes
Thank you so much sir...
I was in a desperate need for a tutor online to learn Blender and it's really a blessing that youtube's algorithm showed me this video...
Thanks again...
LOVE FROM INDIA ❤❤❤
0:57 you look like that guy from corridor crew ngl
Realistic
Not useful and too fast at the beginning for the simplistic Oscar one
Its crazy that before these 8 mins we are stuck at that cube and later ..
This!
I love how the uncanny effect is just GONE
I get a lot of people saying the opposite, and I'm very aware of what needs improvement...BUT comments like yours mean a lot. Thanks!
Hope you make course for body anatomy. Sorry for my English.
Full body has been a popular request. It's definitely something I'm considering!
Thank you
Just purchased this course. Does that anatomical reference tool (value of 29$) is included in human course? If so how can I access those?
I found anatomic lex reference, its hiding inside source file😅. Thanks man. Awesome, flawless course and study🤍🔥
My laptop: Default cube is best what can i render
Even after this high details, How our brain detects this as 3D model ?
All I'm thinking is that I'm really glad Blender is now capable enough to allow such high-quality productions.
hi
@@sculptdigitalart hi
i loved it and trying to do like this
I was honestly surprised when he revealed that he was using blender. Don't get me wrong, I love blender, but it's so hard to find realism tutorials that only use it. It's always zbrush ,maya, substance, and other paying programs.
I appreciate the comment! Part of my goal was to prove Blender can accomplish a high level of realism *by itself.
@@khtrammell entirely understandable! I still don't understand a lot about blender and am mainly a cartoonist so I rely a good bit on tutorials.
back lighting looks the most believable, all the other ones look fake
Pretty much all of this was done solely in Blender? Wow! I've been a Max user for as long as I remember, but I'm looking more and more into Blender recently.
Yes 100% of this project was created with Blender. You should give Blender a shot :)
How much of Blender Basics should I know and tackle about, before I have the technical foundations to get started at this course?
It helps a lot to have a basic-to-intermediate level of experience with Blender. The course comes with a list of recommended prerequisite courses available in the cgcookie library. The Bundle on the Blender Market also includes these prereq courses.
This channel is one the best channel ever .
I love your contents .
Bigups to you ❤.
The Animations took 10 hrs using what computer? I think on my little PC they would take days lol
Heh I know the feeling! My PC specs:
GeForce RTX 2080
AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2950X 16-Core Processor (3.50 GHz)
32 GB of RAM
Sometimes one word says it all.
Wow
Holy f
Yeah, more like that is what i need.
Creating realistic faces in Blender
Rendering: Why has Blender got 4096 samples on the renderer? 128 is good enough for testing and 256-512 for final - we live in the age of AI noise reduction!
How to increase the render speed of blender. By making internal changes in the computer. Like increasing RAM or inserting SSD.
GPU is the main hardware component for faster renders. Increased RAM is next.
@@khtrammell How many
My only question is: are you real?
As an absolute Blender beginner who has literally done like two render until now, this whole process looks extremely intimidating no complex. I hope my professor covers this kind of stuff sooner or later xD
My suggestion if you want to do digital sculpting is to start with simple busts, focus on blocking first, then add in details and refine later. It takes time and practice but you'll get there. I'm still practicing and learning as well.
Best add for a tutorial ever !! ! Feels like a samurai is sharing his acquired knowledge from so many battles with such a profound calm and respect for the art and craft !!! WhooooOoOo!!! Couldn’t dream for a better goooooood mooooooring video let’s go do some coooooOOoLLLL shit on blender while having a wonderful time !!! Thank you !!! Pure awesomeness melting gold good vibes !!! Very inspirational!
OK challenge accepted. Time to make a photorealistic 3D portrait in 8 minutes.
Do it in 7 if you really want to impress me 😎
the flattened out UVs of the face are disturbing
YOU USEEED BLENDER?!
I'm going to be your 500th comment!💗
One day i will do that .. just one day
I have a question.
@@khtrammell thank you. That's useful to know.
