I actually started to really understand the program a lot faster than I thought I would by skipping around to certain parts of your video! I'm definitely going to watch more of your blender tutorials in the future.
Thank you for this video. So happy to have found it. All of my modeling attempts before this were just me pulling on vertices and faces with my mouse. I have a drawing tablet that I use for taking notes, so I plugged it in right after this video and gave it a try. I made the most realistic face that I've ever created. I used to enjoy art in HS, but I stopped trying to make art after graduating... this experience really satisfied a creative itch for me and I'm really thankful that you brought that to me.
I finally found great sculpting tutorial for Blender. I'm not native speaker, so I hardly understand what other's saying, but this is clear and mainly, he doesn't talk any useless information (like, I really doesn't care that someone's having hard times with their partner). THANKS
Finally found someone to help teach us without a computer mouse. This really saves money and time. For five days I’ve been learning how to use blender each morning while my newborn is asleep and every other video dealing with blender the teacher used a mouse.
Thanks a lot, Ryan. I have learnt a lot just watching and listening to you. Blender is the the first sculpting software I have ever used. I am at the very beginning stage with blender. I don't know if there will be a future for me in this sector, but right now I'm learning this skill for the fun of it. Thank you for your clear and explicative teaching skill.
So many tutorial vids fail at clearly explaining how to handle sculpting, specially remesh and dyntopo, but you really helped out with that...thank you so much, this is invaluable info!
Yeah, thanks! When I was first learning Sculpting, I was pretty discouraged at how bad my sculpts were. And I saw other artists online that were so much better then me. So now that I am sort of decent-ish at sculpting, I wanted to show beginners that everyone starts out bad. But if you keep it up you will improve. Hopefully it will encourage people to keep practicing.
For people that actually know hotkeys in blender the video starts at 8:38 , quick rundown on what he talked about.. How to use the drawing tablet, how to zoom in, how to use the keyboard, how to use the pen. Watch at 8:38 if you understand the keyboard hotkeys and the basic interface of blender (like rotating the object).
0:50 Anyone reading this - Don't let this dissuade you from sculpting! I've never used a pen or wacom tablet, but it just takes a little time to use the mouse. It's similar to asking someone what kind of pen or paintbrush they use. Its all about making the right strokes and less about what utensil makes those strokes. You can also use the stabilize stroke option to make the stroke lag behind a little to give you more even, flowing forms.
Gotta say, my next sculp after this video, was like 10x better than everything else i've ever made. Definitely going to like and come back to this later to see anything i may have missed.
This is EXACTLY the kind of tutorial I was hunting for! Sooo helpful in just clearing things up so I have a jumping off point. Thank you so much for putting this out there!
The best beginner tutorial about sculpting I've been seeing till now. Basing on those other tutorials I got feeling like sculpting was something unbelievably complex but now it seems as even me, who's like total noob and makes it just as hobby, could try it out :) I've got cheap tablet which I bought some time ago for my child and which is getting covered by dust so will give it a try :) (GAOMON S620 6.5 x 4 Inches) Special thank you for those examples of your first works! This video was so helpful! It cleared up a lot of things that weren't really addressed in any of the other sculpting tutorials I watched. Thank you for explaining everything so patiently! The way you took your time, showed your setup and gave a bunch of extra tips at the end made it feel like one of my friends was explaining it to me :))
Hey haven't even got through half of your vid and you have shown me twice the information I have gotten from longer vids. Thank you! So far you have had the best content.
omg, this tutorial REALLY helped me to understand a lot about it, like, you can't learn things like that in few days, and it helped me to understand that it takes a lot of time. Thank you so much, i'll keep practicing!
thank you so much!!! i was really scared of using blender after opening it and seeing the interface that can appear super intimidating for a beginner, this tutorial helped a lot
I have had blender on my computer for a long while now. I have looked up other tutorials and have just not been able to get a good understanding on this program. Thank you. Finally, I am finally able to start shaping something with these shortcut keys, move the shape around with my pen, And finally know how to use the tools. Thank you so much. It seems harder to get the tiny fine details I want, but I'm at least getting somewhere now.
This makes a lot of things way clearer for me. Probably won't get started until I find a drawing tablet, but now I know where to begin. Future me thanks you profusely.
Thank you! I went from being super frustrated to finding this and learning EXACTLY what I needed to know to do anything with sculpting in Blender. You rock. Also, good advice to new sculptors near the end : 3 and your own sculpts looks like they've improved a lot. Keep up the good work, man o/
Ryan I just love your work. I'm new to blender and found your channel and got to know a lot and getting better bit by bit. Thankyou for these tutorials ❤
Thank you! I bought a drawing tablet with a lot of hope to get good on this. I am actually a good graphite artist, I make a ton of graphite portrait on paper, but sculpting on a 3D software will be certainly more challenging! Thanks for this very clear tutorial, I will watch it more than once
This guy explained it all in a very calm and detailed manner and also did not wasted anytime talking stupid stuff explained the keys in a very informative way with clear and optimum voice !!! Thanks Bro
This is an awesome tutorial, very well paced, easy to follow directions, very detailed but not overwhelming. He showed so much info butte it was not tiring at all. I liked how he showed the key points, the most important things to remember, without worrying about all the non-essential things which one can discover on their own once they get the ball rolling. nd this is just exactly what this tutorial does.. get rid of the fat and gets right to the meat! Great tutorial.. therefore I subscribed! :))
Thank you, this helped me a lot in getting started with Blender. Artistic sculpting is my primary interest right now, not all the other features of Blender.
Hello Jayanam! Thanks for checking out my video. Can you give me a link to your screencast Keys addon so that I can update it? I don't remember where I found it online.
This tutorial was exactlyyyy what I needed for the project I'm working on so thank you for this amazing and absolutely helpful tutorial! Just a question though, if I were to model a full character body, would I be able to decimate, rig, and then use the character for animation?
Thanks for watching! Yes, you could do that, although I would recommend retopologizing the object after you sculpt it. Then you can do the texturing, rigging and then animate it. proper retopology will make the object move and rotate better when its being rigged and animated.
Being left handed, I've been struggling to learn (or get accustomed to) using my new tablet. I was immediately relieved to see you are also left handed and have the same setup. The only thing I've added is CTRL+Z as my second pen button so I can undo quickly.
This is really great, clear explanation and the fundamental tools of Blender sculpting. Kamvas 20 arrived yesterday and now learning my way around the interface. Thanks for the insight and guidance.
This is really helpful! I've having trouble because my blender sculpting doesnt have the default symmetry option on. Any ideas on how to turn it back on?
easily the most informative tutorial I've seen. Great pacing it was easy to follow along without having to constantly pause and replay. Which version of blender are you using?
dude, you're effing amazing, i watched more than 2 hours of video editing tutorials in your channel only today and not only did i learn new stuff(and i thought i knew the basics) but ALSO i hyped up and watched your sculpting tutorial(i have never considered sculpting beforehand) you are a sight for sore eyes, and i will gladly take this knowledge and give it back to people(maybe in my own mother language) i dream of making/supporting a tutorial like bob ross did it for painting but for content creation instead(i also program in unity)

I go to select and it selects the body and the head because I added (clay to make it fit together). But I added detail since the first time I liked the shape I created, I want to do one "perfect snake sculpted face and keep the progression on other parts (if I go back to earlier files I lose detail in the other parts of the piece). How do I use the lasso select tool so I can delete the extra heads, and focus on one perfect sculpted head that I can duplicate onto the rest of the bodies @@RyanKingArt
when Im done with my model, is there a way to (select) outline the eyes on my model so I can add emission later on them only and not the whole mesh, like to only manually select the area and disassociate it from the rest of the model so I could apply texture on it only
Yes you can do that. First add a basic material to the model. Then, Tab into edit mode and select the area that you want to add the new material to. Then add a new material in the material slot, and press New, to add a new material. Then press the assign button in edit mode. The selected area will then have the material that was selected. Hope this helps.

I've spoken to a professional artist recently that I discovered through a podcast (was surprised I got a quick answer cause he had a few hundred thousand followers) and he said anatomy was his MAIN focus
That's the important thing! Having fun. Very important, especially at the beginning. I sucked at sculpting as well at first. Lol. Just keep on practicing, and you will improve! : )
Years later this tutorial is still useful and relevant. I guess I'll echo what other commenters have said on this video, your teachings are clear and straight to the point digestible and understandable. If it's not too much to ask, if you read this, could you make an update tutorial in 3.0 with a nice looking character? Something not too complicated, but to get you used to using the tools And that you can build off of to other projects if you want to do so on your own. Thank you so much for this.

I finally found great sculpting tutorial for Blender. I'm not native speaker, so I hardly understand what other's saying, but this is clear and mainly, he doesn't talk any useless information (like, I really doesn't care that someone's having hard times with their partner). THANKS
Hope the video is helpful! Thanks for watching!
Finally found someone to help teach us without a computer mouse. This really saves money and time. For five days I’ve been learning how to use blender each morning while my newborn is asleep and every other video dealing with blender the teacher used a mouse.
glad it helps! thanks for watching.
So I do need a computer mouse to use blender?
Thanks a lot, Ryan.
I have learnt a lot just watching and listening to you.
Blender is the the first sculpting software I have ever used.
I am at the very beginning stage with blender.
I don't know if there will be a future for me in this sector, but right now I'm learning this skill for the fun of it.
Thank you for your clear and explicative teaching skill.
You're very welcome! Thank you for watching!
So many tutorial vids fail at clearly explaining how to handle sculpting, specially remesh and dyntopo, but you really helped out with that...thank you so much, this is invaluable info!
Glad it helped!
Love your honesty! not common nowadays somebody showing his early works. Thumbs UP!
Thanks!
Awesome! Thanks!
This is EXACTLY the kind of tutorial I was hunting for! Sooo helpful in just clearing things up so I have a jumping off point. Thank you so much for putting this out there!
Glad it was helpful!
The best beginner tutorial about sculpting I've been seeing till now.
Basing on those other tutorials I got feeling like sculpting was something unbelievably complex but now it seems as even me, who's like total noob and makes it just as hobby, could try it out :)
I've got cheap tablet which I bought some time ago for my child and which is getting covered by dust so will give it a try :)
(GAOMON S620 6.5 x 4 Inches)
Special thank you for those examples of your first works!
It really adds some courage to try it :)
Also your tutorials are full of useful hints which accelerates learning speed.
Thank you!
Glad its helpful. Thank you for watching!
One of the best tuts I've seen in a long while. Congratulations on making a difficult subject understandable.
Thanks!
I hadnt touched blender since around 2011-2012 for school, this was the exact refresher I needed to relearn sculpting. Man, Blender has changed quite a bit since then!
Lol, yes it has! Blender is awesome! I didn't even know blender existed until 2013, and I only started really learning it in 2016.

Funny how I didn’t even notice the other guy’s comment listing all other things as well, just started doing it for my own memory purposes, hopefully it’s useful for others
Seriously you are good ! the video is very clear, well done. I just start using blender so that was very useful for me. thanks
Glad it helped you out! Thanks for watching.
@bubibej I don't understand what you mean. Sorry. I used Google Translate, and it said: eee Can you in Polish?
This video was so helpful! It cleared up a lot of things that weren't really addressed in any of the other sculpting tutorials I watched.
Thank you for explaining everything so patiently! The way you took your time, showed your setup and gave a bunch of extra tips at the end made it feel like one of my friends was explaining it to me :))
Thank you for watching!
Thanks
Thank you for your support!!!!
Hey haven't even got through half of your vid and you have shown me twice the information I have gotten from longer vids. Thank you! So far you have had the best content.
glad its helpful!!
Absolutely EXCELLENT tutorial. Familiar with Mudbox - this was exactly what I was hoping to find. Thanks!
Glad you like it. Thanks for watching!
I decided to start sculpting and luckily it is sculpt January
Awesome!
This man made a better character than me just by swiping on the screen a few times, that says a lot about my blender skills
Haha, thanks. Keep on practising and you will improve!
omg, this tutorial REALLY helped me to understand a lot about it, like, you can't learn things like that in few days, and it helped me to understand that it takes a lot of time. Thank you so much, i'll keep practicing!
Glad the video helped you. Yes, keep on practicing!
This is the best tutorial I have ever witnessed in my life. Well done! Seriously
glad you like it!
How did I start from wanting to learn sculpting and end up signing up for a biology course about the human face......
Lol Cool! Yes, learning anatomy is a very good skill to have for sculpting.
thank you so much!!! i was really scared of using blender after opening it and seeing the interface that can appear super intimidating for a beginner, this tutorial helped a lot
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching. 🙂
@@RyanKingArt of course! new sub from me 😊
@@babynissan Thanks!
You may not be the best artist (yet), but you sure are a very good teacher! Thank you for that superb tutorial. :)
Thanks : )
I have had blender on my computer for a long while now. I have looked up other tutorials and have just not been able to get a good understanding on this program.
Thank you. Finally, I am finally able to start shaping something with these shortcut keys, move the shape around with my pen, And finally know how to use the tools. Thank you so much. It seems harder to get the tiny fine details I want, but I'm at least getting somewhere now.
glad it helped! thanks for watching!
This makes a lot of things way clearer for me. Probably won't get started until I find a drawing tablet, but now I know where to begin. Future me thanks you profusely.
Glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching!
@Will Swift I have links in the description to the tablets that I recommend.
Thank you! I went from being super frustrated to finding this and learning EXACTLY what I needed to know to do anything with sculpting in Blender. You rock. Also, good advice to new sculptors near the end : 3 and your own sculpts looks like they've improved a lot. Keep up the good work, man o/
Thank you for watching! Glad it helped
Ryan I just love your work. I'm new to blender and found your channel and got to know a lot and getting better bit by bit.
Thankyou for these tutorials ❤
glad my videos can help!
Thank you! I bought a drawing tablet with a lot of hope to get good on this. I am actually a good graphite artist, I make a ton of graphite portrait on paper, but sculpting on a 3D software will be certainly more challenging! Thanks for this very clear tutorial, I will watch it more than once
Cool! Hope you find the tutorial helpful. I also love to draw traditionally! Although, I really should practice more to improve my drawing skills. : )
This guy explained it all in a very calm and detailed manner and also did not wasted anytime talking stupid stuff explained the keys in a very informative way with clear and optimum voice !!! Thanks Bro
Glad you liked it!
@@RyanKingArt Thanks for the help man !!! 🥰
An incredibly helpful tutorial! I especially appreciate you showing your first sculpts to show how much you've improved.
glad it was helpful!
Great video and even better teaching skills! Thank you so much! Now I am no longer afraid to get into it!
Thanks for watching!
This was fantastic... all I needed in one video.
Thank you so much for making this.
You're welcome! 😀
Thanks Creative Studio! I appreciate the nice comment. And thanks for Subscribing!! : )
AMAZING VIDEO MAN one of the BEST intro videos I've ever watched for anything EVER!!!!
Haha, Thanks so much : )
Thanks!
thank you for your support!
I’ve watched like 5 of these this is the only one that helped
Glad it was helpful!
Love your content with blender.
Thank you!
Shoutout to all the left-handed homies out there, we built for this sculpting method.
Haha yeah. 😄
3 years later, still very useful! Thanks bro! I've been using blender for a bit and had most of this stuff figured out, but i still learned a lot!
thanks for watching!
Thank you, this helped me a lot in getting started with Blender. Artistic sculpting is my primary interest right now, not all the other features of Blender.
Thank you for watching!
Hey nice one again Ryan - but you should update my screencast keys addon, new version just looks better:-) Keep it up m8!
Hello Jayanam! Thanks for checking out my video. Can you give me a link to your screencast Keys addon so that I can update it? I don't remember where I found it online.
Never mind. I found it though your channel. Thanks for creating the addon. It works great!
Thanks! Sometimes people have asked what Screencast keys I use. So next time they ask I will send them this Link. Thanks again!
@@JayAnAm Hi is this 2.91 ready ? tnx
@@rodolflum3444 Yep
This tutorial was exactlyyyy what I needed for the project I'm working on so thank you for this amazing and absolutely helpful tutorial!
Just a question though, if I were to model a full character body, would I be able to decimate, rig, and then use the character for animation?
Thanks for watching! Yes, you could do that, although I would recommend retopologizing the object after you sculpt it. Then you can do the texturing, rigging and then animate it. proper retopology will make the object move and rotate better when its being rigged and animated.
i wasnt expecting such a good tutorial, thank you!
Glad you liked it!
Great to hear that! Thanks for watching!
This is really helpful! I've having trouble because my blender sculpting doesnt have the default symmetry option on. Any ideas on how to turn it back on?
I have no idea. Recently I have been having that problem too actually.
Thanks a lot for the tutorial, they are really helpful for beginners, especially those re-meshing tips
You're very welcome!
easily the most informative tutorial I've seen. Great pacing it was easy to follow along without having to constantly pause and replay. Which version of blender are you using?
Thanks! For this tutorial I was using Blender 2.91
This tutorial is useful for people who don't really need artistic lessons but want to learn how to use the program. Thanks!
Thanks
dude, you're effing amazing, i watched more than 2 hours of video editing tutorials in your channel only today and not only did i learn new stuff(and i thought i knew the basics) but ALSO i hyped up and watched your sculpting tutorial(i have never considered sculpting beforehand)
you are a sight for sore eyes, and i will gladly take this knowledge and give it back to people(maybe in my own mother language)
i dream of making/supporting a tutorial like bob ross did it for painting but for content creation instead(i also program in unity)
Very cool! I'm glad you enjoyed my tutorials!
Hey! This is exactly what I needed! Thank You so much! I´m pretty new to this, but You make me feel like coming home! In some weird way. Thanks! :)
Welcome!
Amazing tutorial bro. I'm just getting into sculpting and this was very informative. I'm looking forward to getting more sculpting done.
Thanks!
@@RyanKingArt Did my first ever sculpt in Blender after watching your video. No reference (I know, I know) but here it is - www.artstation.com/jalizscanlanproductions
Super simplefied and easy to get the hang of
I had been messing around with Blender and made a very burnt furry donut a few hours ago lol and had trouble making faces, but your explaination was super helpful and helped Me understand
Thank you :D
You are very welcome!
This video is so great! As a long time Blender user, but total newbie to sculpting, you hit everything I was wondering about. Great organization of all the content. Thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
You're awesome! I'd love to show you what you helped me create. You're videos are my favorite, straight to the point and explanatory. First time using blender and created something that would take me so much more time than what it actually did. Thank you!
glad it helped!
I need help, I'm drawing snake heads and trying to select just the head (originally seperate entities. I go to select and it selects the body and the head because I added (clay to make it fit together). But I added detail since the first time I liked the shape I created, I want to do one "perfect snake sculpted face and keep the progression on other parts (if I go back to earlier files I lose detail in the other parts of the piece). How do I use the lasso select tool so I can delete the extra heads, and focus on one perfect sculpted head that I can duplicate onto the rest of the bodies
@@RyanKingArt
best tutorial for a beginner, thx!
Glad it was helpful!
Holy cow, you are super good at teaching! This taught me so much! I got excited with the new stuff I learned XD
Thanks!
when Im done with my model, is there a way to (select) outline the eyes on my model so I can add emission later on them only and not the whole mesh, like to only manually select the area and disassociate it from the rest of the model so I could apply texture on it only
Yes you can do that. First add a basic material to the model. Then, Tab into edit mode and select the area that you want to add the new material to. Then add a new material in the material slot, and press New, to add a new material. Then press the assign button in edit mode. The selected area will then have the material that was selected. Hope this helps.
@@RyanKingArt WOW this helped me a ton, took me a minute to figure what's going on, thank you so much for the reply this is what I love to see from creators giving feedback and helping around!
I dont comment a lot but today I will because your tutorial is so helpful and crystal clear. Thank you so much!!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching.
One of the best and detailed tutorial I have seen till now , thank you :)
Glad it was helpful!
12:09 i like how you made it look like a head crab
Haha, Yeah.
I thought I was good at sculpting… I was delusional. I found this video and I have gotten SO much better! Thanks a ton, man! You covered like everything.
glad it helped!
I’ve been looking desperately to find out how to make it mirror my strokes for better symmetry, how do I turn it on?
On the top right ish of the screen, there are X Y and Z buttons. Turn the X on and it should mirror your sculpt.
this might be the best tutorial i've ever seen, like for anything. great job and thank you, this was very helpful!
Thanks so much : )
bro noice love the turtorial such a good explainer
Glad you liked it!
I've spoken to a professional artist recently that I discovered through a podcast (was surprised I got a quick answer cause he had a few hundred thousand followers) and he said anatomy was his MAIN focus
Yes, if you'd like to get good at sculpting creatures or characters, learning anatomy is very important.
bro thank you
Welcome!
Just bought a tablet. I suck but I'm having fun!
Thank you so much for this.
thanks! yeah I'd like to make an updated sculpting for beginners tutorial.
This is the best introduction I have ever seen for sculpting.
Thanks so much!
