Tolakram: "I'm basically a pro at this game."
Autodock: "I'm about to ruin this man's whole career."
"You're drunk. This is worse than me. This is worse than me flying."
A pro lol
Alright man ... I am less than 5 min in and off the hop this is the most bs omitting, intelligent minded, informed instructional video Ive seen. I am a noob at this particular game and I have learned more from you already than the other 30 or so vids I've watched! Finally ... Thanks!
Thanks rig!
honeslty, straight fax. i love you man, you explained everything so well!!
Same, I'm so lucky to find this :D
I have been an avid gamer for 18 years (since I was 8) and I have never heard of this game.. no clue how. This is incredible.
This is my first in the series, but the creators were revolutionary in 1984 when they released the first one! Look up a Wiki on Elite 1984!
Quick tip: the compass will point to your assigned landing pad once inside the station.
I've never noticed that, I always end up spinning around looking for my landing pad. Thanks!
Been waiting for a series on this game, couldn’t find any recent ones anywhere! Thanks for this and have a great Christmas!
RUclips algorithm recommended me this video. Nice to see an extended beginner video than a condensed 30 minute. I played the game thinking I could be flying an Anaconda in 2 days. Boy, am I wrong.
I will continue to watch this channel with great interest.
the mechanics of this game and the texture and layout make this game look amazing
I just started this game with a friend when i got my new pc last weekend, it's so good
Tip on helping you find the space station entrance (after you eventually get rid of your auto-dock module): Space stations, when viewed from the front or entrance side, always spin counter-clockwise. So at 9:16 when you jumped in, you can see the side you're looking at spinning "down" from your perspective. That immediately will tell you that the "front" or entrance of the station is to your right. It does take some spacial awareness to do the quick visual in your head, but it will save you countless hours of trying to find the entrance in your later travels.
Excellent, thanks!
With the auto dock you can cancel it just by powering down. It will only re-engage when you go to low power again. I find the best way is to get lined up with the dock then engage it so it does all the tricky bits.
Game is on a really good special rn and now im more tempted to buy it, gonna continue watching your series and on a later video you might see a comment from me stating that i purchased the game
I had my doubts but thanks to you, I really want to play the game
Just started 12/14/21. At 4:20 am after a long day of work a 10 our shift night shifter. And I’m ready.
Most ED RUclipsrs: *Tries to cram everything into the 30 min tutorial without telling you the realities*
This dude: *Pratically plays the game with you*
Auto Dock (In the word 'dock' change the letter 'o' to 'i')
You told me Star Citizen game looks like work, but you doing Elite?
Dude.....
THANK GOD U EXIST! I just bought the game and i am playing on Mouse and keyboard too and i dont know where to START! :D
Also u explain everything in detail! *-*
Thanks, glad the video helped!
Love the game, thanks for a very approachable tutorial
This man is literally the best video game commentator of all time. I want more content like this!
The learning curve for piloting in this game had me rage quit. I was running into everything. I didn't even pass the tutorial. I tried to shoot the drone and it kept sending me back to the training area and then I ran into it and it wouldn't let me get away. It kept me running into it. Plus it's buggy. When I scanned the first time I scanned for 10 mins straight and wouldn't get anywhere. I guess I'm better watching than playing this one
Been there! It took me a while and I'm still not that good.
I also, have been unable to pass the tutorial, so don't feel bad. I am NOT a natural pilot. I actually do better at shooting in the tutorial (which says absolutely nothing of my skill or lack thereof if I ever get into a fight) but still run into and get stuck in the walls of any structure that appears on the screen.
Oh nice, I got a free copy of this game a while back and havent tried it yet. curious if it's good
You will either love it or hate it. I love watching the vids but hate the fact that I fly so poorly I can't pass the tutorial.
Basically No Man’s Sky IN REAL LIFE!
Mm = Megameter, which is 1,000,000 meters.
"41...computer knows where it is...I'd be flying around inside of here all day looking for it".... SO glad it's not just me who does that.
As soon as you pass thru the mail slot you compass points toward your dock.
Thanks. Really enjoyed this. I've watched more end game stream on this. Nothing more starter level.
NMS could use some more variety of missions and exlporation similar to ED. Hope you do some more.
Good startup instruction -- also, once you're inside a station, your compass (circle with moving dot, left of radar screen) switches to guide you to your landing pad.
Really great content here! Your voice and that sarcastic sense of humor reminds me the Wheatley (that NPC from Portal 2)
your explaining really well, I'm confident to play the game now lol, usually this stuff is too confusing, great video and great job explaining everything and how to start the game of right.
Just got the game, can you show your graphics settings??? mine are all ultra but it looks like ass!???
Thanks Larry, have fun!
@@Tolakram just edited my comment, realized you replied! do you have a video on the graphic settings your running? idk why mine look so bad, my pc is powerful enough to run bigger games then this one
@@larry3083 Sorry, I don't, and it's been a while since I played. Check to make sure you're running in the right resolution and that the newer FSR settings are at quality. If I recall correctly those took a lot of fiddling to make it look ok. Odyssey added a lot more, this video was made before Odyssey came out.
@@Tolakram you dont play anymore!?? :(
and thanks i think i got it to look pretty good!
PROS: awesome graphics, vast almost endless room to travel and explore even a sector has enough planets stations and other things to fill your time for hours on end.
CONS: for beginners you're practically screwed because you can't really accomplish any contracts as your ship doesn't have the necessary equipment to complete any tasks, and your don't want to venture out to far as you may run out of fuel and be stranded Ina region where you may never be found. Unless you're Ina squadron that may come to your aid. All on all it is worth it.
It's pretty easy to get to your first millions tho. Just do a couple of courier jobs that don't require cargo space, and stay close to systems with outposts or stations so you don't have to worry about fuel.
I reached my first million in just a couple of hours and never got close to an empty fuel tank because the very basic fuel scoop is only a few thousand credits. All with all it allowed me to upgrade my ship and starting to do more the more valuable contracts.
And all of this was in my first 10 hours of playing ED without tutorials
brilliant episode
I have been looking into this game for years and honestly had no clue about it besides the basics. I saw countless videos talking about improvements, upcoming stuff yadda yadda but nobody seems to make videos on what you actually....DO in the game, lol. That you so incredibly much for the great video showcasing a typical trade run through and the feel of the game. Off to buy a basic flight stick, the game on Steam sale and to try my hand at the frustrating learning curve, lol.
Thanks for the comment, have fun!
I went to NMS from Elite. I feel Elite flight is so much better (If you use HOTAS). I feel NMS has much more variety of content. It has been about 9 months since I played Elite.
I rock dual Joysticks but would love a throttle at some point.. in the mean time, I've mastered the art of dual sticks! My left one is an old ST290 Pro with the handrest set for left-handed and I can throttle manually by twisting the left stick, or set it to a percentage on an axis by lifting a lever style throttle. All the way up is 100%, and then I have a dedicated button for changing my throttle input with the lever to reverse or forward. The HOTAS would be nice for having a dedicated center position.
Keep up the good work, i love this channel! And also merry Xmas and happy new year :)
I quite enjoy your commentary and calm tone of voice you got going. Incredibly soothing and relaxing way to learn about the game. Great video man. Subscribed.
It’s funny how my first play through like some months ago I got through the first walkthrough without anyone trying to kill me and now that I come back into the game and try a fresh start I almost get attacked at the same time as you did and got away lol glorious
Clamed this game some time ago, wanted to check it out..looks cool
Wow. Things have moved on since the early 80s. I used to play this on a C64.
Many years ago I flew an Imperial Courier within "Frontier: Elite 2"on an Amiga and had a blast. Then a wife, children and work commitments all got in the way. Now I'm back with Dangerous and enjoying the galaxy once more. It's a steep learning curve but I'm getting there. Combat is a challenge now I'm old and arthritic and I often wonder if I'm too old for this game. Mebbe solo play might be an option?
Mm is megameters. 1 Mm = 1,000,000 m
was using fss when you got interdicted and it scared the shit out of me because i have 2 weeks of exploration data!
Thanks for making this video the way you did. Really entertaining and you never linger forever on random stuff which so many people do on many different things. Something to learn from you honestly
you can choose solo before anything... alot of gaming joy is missed when one foregoes Joystick and Hotas. Just remarking.
Why does noone play the Arena PVP - It's the best part of the game! I stopped playing Elite Dangerous as the rest of the game was boring - but that really rocked - Especially when you could dive through structures to find powerups and avoid enemies.
I've never tried it. I don't like Elite combat because PIP management is beyond dumb IMO and a problem that would be solved in today's world, and certainly the far future. Haha, we each have parts of the game we like. :)
Hehe.. glad you can join me. Got back into it 2 months ago and still playing but been playing for 4+ years on and off with hotas and all.
Hey Mark! When is the next video coming out? Hooked to your NMS playlist.
Soonish. Been having some fun playing games with the family over the holidays. :)
Thanks for taking the time to do this, very informative for a noob.
Thanks, glad it helped!
Really looking forward to this series! Can you tell us more about keyboard and mouse, whether there are limitations compared to hotas? Love the NMS series thanks. I already have ED but never got round to getting a stick..
Lots of limitations, HOTAS is superior, but I can't be bothered. At least with keyboard and mouse I can use it as an excuse for being bad at flying. 😀
Main actual limitation besides ease of remembering buttons you setup on the joystick/throttle(I use dual joysticks), is that keyboard and mouse won't have any axis you can set for anything like the throttle. So you're best off having a key to go to 100% throttle, 75%, 50, etc. as well as an increase and decrease key to go to the numbers in between.
I like docking and ejecting my ship😂
I hope you keep this going, its a great series and is helping me a lot as a new player. You’ve earned my sub sir!
Excellent little introduction to the game. I've came back to it after about a year and a half away and had forgotten, well, everything. This has been great to get me re-aquainted.
Decent presentation, not dry like a lot of these, and it's always good to watch someone who clearly isn't an expert. No offense!
This game looks out of this world!!!!
Whats better? This or No Man's Sky? From what I hear nms has much more content
No Man's Sky is a better game, Elite Dangerous is a better space simulator. I'm not playing this anymore, I am still playing NMS. :)
Beautiful and helpful video. I am going to reset my progress today, and start slowly.
I’m getting the game tmr that’s it and it’s on sale bet
in vr its like an astronomical heaven
You said there is not a lot the Sidewinder can do, but in fact it can do almost everything, but it can do none of it well.
I bought the first Elite back when it came out for the BBC Micro. 9 minutes to load from cassette tape *IF* you had the volume set correctly, otherwise it was rewind and start all over again.
It's changed a bit in those 37 years but then so have I - apart from still loving this sort of thing. :-) It's a steep learning curve to get back up there again though, so this video is very helpful & very welcome. I'm just a week back in now, so still trying to find what's where and navigating the screens as well as the stars. Looking forward to opening out into the galaxies and shooting bad guys!
Thanks!
omg yess
I play no man's sky, this one looks like advanced escape from velocity. I think I'll try it
Love your NMS series, so super-excited that you've started Elite Dangerous. Hoping you're going to get really deep into this game, and maybe inspire me to start playing it again.
YOU don't automatically start in open. You can choose solo or open from turn 1
What are you basing that on? A new account, start game, no options. I can jump out and go solo once I'm in the game and the tutorials are over, or skipped, I chose not too.
I really want to start playing but I feel intimidated because I have heard it's a bit of a learning curve.
This was very helpful for me to get a look at the start of this game.
Auto-dock, also known as, self-destruct sequence.
I got my PhD in self-destruct during the tutorial. Unfortunately, I did not graduate from the tutorial. Obviously I am not a natural pilot. Gonna keep trying till I make it out of there.
boosting through the mailslotv in a t7 is fun, you should try it
I’ve just recently started playing NMS and as a result I’ve come across this game, and I’m wondering if it’s worth buying this game now? Or maybe wait for Odyssey? Should I just stick with NMS because these games seem very, very involved and time consuming but very fun. Kinda conflicted as to what I should dedicate time to playing 😐
There are aliens so a bit is fantasy still. But ED does have some tasks that can be VERY time consuming. Look up Engineering on Elite Dangerous. It's a long grind to get good Engineering available and materials to get it done to top level, but there are MANY tutorials on RUclips including the fastest ways to unlock specific things!
I recommend it, but if you get into it enough it CAN be very time consuming!
@BoneYard Agreed. More complex forms like core mining exist, although some people like my roommate find it relaxing.
@BoneYard I'm always impressed with how much cash he ends up getting from one(pretty long) trip. Idk if he has to resupply on limpets or anything either, but he had like 91 Void Opals last trip I saw him come back from.
It said there like 400billion star systems in elite dangerous and that's seems very very unlikely. Do you know how many systems there are in the game?
There are around 400 billion star systems in the game. Or at least that's what they're telling us, I haven't counted them all :p It's supposed to be a 1:1 representation of our galaxy.
@@Bandit__ wow that's insane
This looks too much like eve online. Thanks for the good video.
Hopefully you reply.
I started the game last night and I have to keeping on turning to see my destination even after plotting a route. How did you get that tiny arrow that shows where you need to go.
I play on console if that’s any different.
Thanks, love the video
I belive the entrance always faces the planet.
So this basically Euro Truck with spaceships?
24:50 was by far the funniest part of this vid😂
Thoroughly enjoyed your commentary, great video!
it sucks, you need to read like 10000 pages of key binds before you can even play.
Just wait, Odyssey adds another 20 pages!
playing the game looks harder than reallife
Yep, one of the reasons I do so few videos on this is because it takes so long to do anything.
It has been over a year since I quit playing, is the Newbie Zone a recent addition? The reason I ask is the reason I quit playing, about 15-20 minuets into playing (this happened a few times) I got interdicted and destroyed by fellow players. Each time I was flying a Sidewinder with no cargo. I got fed up and started playing solo...got bored and stopped playing.
I'm not sure, but I think it is. I don't remember it from a couple of years ago when I first played but I don't remember a lot of things game related. :) In addition at the start of the game you can jump out and rejoin in single player mode now. I didn't do this, but you can.
@@Tolakram Watching your series has got me thinking about starting up Elite again.
I flew to SAG A in a Sidewinder long trip!
Wow!
@@Tolakram I flew all the way back from Sag A for the rank up to Pioneer, this was before Jacque's Station in Colonia and the engineers. what a great game this was in 2017-18!!!
That was your fault. IT happens whenever you fly approach like that...
What isn't my fault? :)
2 Questions; First is, are people as rich as players in Eve Online?
And last question: Are all goods player made and sold, like is this game relying on a player base?
You can play solo. You do not need other players.
Roads to riches are being nerfed of late. These days I gather it's more of a grind to riches. The goods are not player based. The game produces the goods and the player gathers them, transports them and sells (etc) them. A few years ago you could acquire certain goods and sell them for a lot of money. You could make many millions per trip. Not so much these days. You can still get rich, just at a slower rate.
Maybe it's just me, maybe I'm ignorant, but this just seems like EVE with a cockpit view.
I've never played Eve, but I suspect it has better gameplay than Elite.
Yall people crack me up their is no such thing as a ring planet the planet that surrounds you are destroyed
Doorstop 😂😂
Why did I start at dahan gateway. What do I do, and I can't hyper jump or whatever
guys did u kniw this is one of the boggest map games in the world?
Been playing this while I wait for faster internet to play star citizen
The mouse is kind of difficult for me to get a hang of. I keep roating around even with a low dpi and low mouse sensitivity in game.
Your tutorial is so at odds with what I'm seeing in my game three years later as to be almost useless. The UI seems to have changed considerably.
I did a newer tutorial, linked in a video card and at the end, and in the description. I'm not sure the interface changed all that much, but the starting location did if you're in Odyssey. While this video might work well as a tutorial, I call it gameplay on purpose.
hey tola, Mm is a Megameter
ok, i've watched a lot of these guys play this dud game, i've got MAJOR buyers remorse, they love to tell you what they are doing/happening but NEVER HOW THEY DO IT!!!
I don't track the vids but I watch a lot of them. There are a few that will give you step-by-step procedures for everything they do. The thing is, everyone sets their system up to suit themselves so no vid can say you press this key and get this result.
The best space sim ever made!
Mm i believe is Megameters
Great vid. Thanks
Wow someone who can coherently explain the game without dumping info
how did you get your game to look like that? I'm at Ultra settings with a gtx 3070 and it looks like 420p. :(
You probably have resolution scaling turned on. Mess around with the settings, or ideally turn it off since you have a 3070. AMD superrez or some such nonsense.
Holy crap this looks boring AF. Glad i watched before grabbing the game on the current huge sale.
Yep, you either like the simulator so much you find ways to enjoy the game or stay far far away, at any price!
Thanks for the video. 🚨
Keep this series
so you cant get out of your ship and walk around?
If you buy Odyssey and have a good graphics card you can.
Is this series still going on or was it scrapped?
I haven't played in over a year. If they add more fun I'll give it another go.
this, no mans sky, and bf2 are my favorite games because i’m in love with sci-fi
Add Mass Effect ;)
I'm playing on ps4
That ship reminds me of a Nissan
