From England.
I really appreciate the humor and respect that he approached the piece with.
Yes ! I was almost afraid to watch it, but I was very pleased and even blessed by it
It's incredible that young women are still becoming nuns, and young men, priests. I wish her all the best. Thanks for the video, Newsy.
Did anyone else notice all the laughter and smiles? The true joy? I did.
I’m not going to lie, I’ve considered becoming a sister. You cannot deny, there really is a joy that just emanates from their faces.
A PURE joy, at that. It’s truly beautiful and so humble.
it's the Ojas Shakti from retained sexual energy
At this point I am considering it tbh
@@gracesreadsalotayy182 May Love lead your journey 🕯
There is a lot of pain and loneliness, too, for many of them. They only show the sunny side. They are supposed to always seem happy and fulfilled, but we seldom see or hear about their tears alone in their cells.
"She was called by the lord and we get to eavesdrop."

I can completely understand wanting to be a nun, if you go into it and find that’s it’s your purpose, how amazing that would be, to help others fully and not have to worry about worldly concerns. That sounds like a great life

I'm Catholic and this was very beautiful made and conducted. Thank you!
I am amazed at how the whole community did not bat an eyelash when he said he was gay.
I'm grateful.
I've seen too many religious person who persecute LGBTQ+ in my country, i really wish this could happen in my country one day
Until the Bible changes its teaching don’t bet on it
@@Roman-oh7xc the Bible never says anything about persecuting lgbt people. So...
Nuns believe in praying for the loss not blasting them...unless you are talking about Sister Tony, she did not like my long underwear showing under my uniform.
Abrahamic religion is slowly dying away in this world. That is the true blessing.
@@Epitaff we get it. You hate Christianity lol
this guy is amazing at interviewing people and making them feel comfortable
Not being a homophobe or something... but he is too effeminate. You can tell that during the lunch the nuns were laughing partly due to how flamboyant he was. In short, a bit too gay.

On behalf of all Catholics, I really have to thank Newsy and this great interviewer on the church with such respect!
Fantastic video, Newsy!
And especially hats off to the presenter!
YES!!! Humorous without being silly or mocking, Authentically curious.
This is great. Thank you for highlight women in the church who are just plain bad-ass.
For those that do not know, there are many types of organizations of nuns. Each organization wears different clothes, has different rules, etc. For example, the Benediction nuns wear what everyone else wears and continue to have a career in whatever field they choose.
True. Most of the sisters I know are teachers or registered nurse/hospital administrators and also hospital chaplains. One of my favorites was all three, working as a teacher first, then went to nursing school and in her late 60's became a hospital chaplain.
I visited russian orhodox nuns monastery, there it was forbidden to talk during meals
Even within Benedictines there are differences. There are two Benedictine communities near my town, and one dresses in habits and one wears normal street clothes. You are absolutely right that there are wide differences!
Not all Benedictines. Some still wear the habit. It depends on the community.
Can I just say - shout out to whoever came up with the title. Brilliant double internal rhymes
I resonated with everything she said, this has to be what God wants for me
I can have this without being a nun. Worship God daily, serve people, go deeper on your journey with God - study his word (I went to Charis Bible School, the best), dont depend on circumstances, but on God.... well, I guess it boils down to the question if we are called to be it... I am not, and I am so happy that I am not...All the best in case you are...
Had something on my heart to comment - Jesus was not a fan of religion. Religion as in practice and ritual which the Pharisees did which made them think they were aligned with God and God was pleased with them. Repent, turn away from sin, surrender, and most importantly - accept the free gift of grace through faith. And Iive and enjoy your life. You can still travel, get married, buy a house.
@@alexa6260 I don't desire any of those things though, only God. I'm asexual
@@alexa6260 Jesus was not a fan of empty religion as practiced by the Pharisees Jesus was a Jew who practiced his religion, as we all should, as a way to grow closer to God the Father. That’s what so inspiring about this video, this young lady is doing the same..

Love that even though this seems to be made by a secular agency, it is extremely respectful and shows the truth of convent life!
Agnostic-atheist, married, with one child here. I found this fascinating and this was so well done. Thank you!
I find this disturbing. When we have access to information ard the world and you still get people buying this indoctrinated bs....
@@RonLarhz I'm not religious for many reasons and this certainly doesn't change my personal view. But I do think it's important to connect to people on a human level, despite their beliefs. Criticizing people for their beliefs in a way that is patronizing and polarizing is incredibly unhelpful and (surprise) does not work. I feel at least in understanding other's views and lifestyle, we can decrease the divide between us and them and allow for a lot more meaningful conversation, rather than the opposite approach, which let's be honest, hardly ever works.
Liesjamz agree!
@@liesjamz2030 wow, amazingly well put!!
@@RonLarhz i find it disturbing that you’re disturbed. yes, we have access to a lot of “information”. i agree. but we still have to search through it all which takes time. and we’re not all in the same place in our searching. but to always keep searching, seeking, is what makes life beautiful
What a beautiful young woman! Very classy and articulate responses. This was an awesome video!
I am a young monk. If someone asks me why I am a monk, because I feel that I am unbelievably loved by God and I want to return that love.
This is the part of the Church we love to seeeeee
I’m a 50 year old Southern Baptist. This video was so adorable, and heart warming.
I absolutely agree with the Father who is sitting with the nuns, you do feel the joy in convents and monestaries. These people are people who find joy in helping others. Their piousness doesn't come from reading the bible or being religious, they get it from the smaller things like community and dedication to the greater good.
Probably one of the most fair short documentaries I’ve seen! This guy needs to be more famous for his documentaries!
My mom wanted to be a nun, clearly she didn’t become a nun
I know this society of sisters! I helped out a few times with their monthly food pantry. I can sincerely tell you guys that they were the sweetest, kindest group of women I’ve ever met. God bless them!
I'm not catholic, but protestant, and if I could work in my field outside (which is service oriented) of the convent but otherwise live in a convent as a protestant nun, I would totally do it (and I would give my paycheck to the church).
There are Protestant nuns.
I loooove this guy! I don’t know what brought me here but I’m glad I made it!
It’s interesting that this wouldn’t get a newsworthy tag, but that way of life is super foreign to the general public. Everyone is pretty curious about “the why”, so this cool.
Wonderful and beautifully inspiring!! Thank you for your service xx
I think she takes experiences so overwhelmingly to her core. I see a litlle bit of a broken heart in her. And if that's true, I am excited for her to start her new life. I hope she's fulfilled.
Why do you think she has a broken heart?
and “how do you mend a broken heart? how does a loser ever win? help me mend this broken heart, and let me live again “
Thank you for making such an interesting video, and thank you to the sisters for letting us see their way of life! Such a friendly vibe, and all my best to those dedicating their lives to God in this way
Now that I'm 40 and have been through death of friends, a parent, and 3 of my children, I know with even more surety that God is absolutely real. Once you get older, you start to experience more things that are beyond explanation. If you've been through some real tough times in life, you know what I'm talking about.
I believe I get what you're talking about. Ever since my stint in foster care, I've turned to religion for guidance and comfort and now I'm more in touch with both myself and my relationship with God. It also goes to show that anyone of any age in any situation can be accepted and loved by the Lord. Sometimes the toughest circumstances are what, in the end, grant us the most powerful blessings
Absolutely! God knows exactly what He’s doing and how to bring us closer to Him even when it absolutely aches and hurts us to our core
Amen!
It's not because something is "beyong explanation" that God is the "only" explanation...
God is a convenient answer to that which is beyond explanation. I understand why some find comfort in that, although it doesn’t prove anything
This was brilliant. Wish it was longer
Oh my God he is so funny and this is so wholesome
Second commandment
I always went to Catholic schools despite not being religious neither I was raised to be. I can’t imagine becoming a nun myself but I can see the appeal of it. It seems such a simple and stress free life although I could never live without my family..
Same. I could live up to the vow of chastity and the vow of poverty (as interpreted by only having what you actually need) but obedience to god or an authority I have no ability to directly influence is not something I'm capable of. If I was born a couple of centuries earlier a convent would have been the best place for me.
I think it is such a beautiful way to be of service to God if you’re called to it
Obedience is more not only thinking of yourself first and foremost. It’s about being in service to others.
Religious sisters who are not cloistered actually do get to visit their family!
But that's not why the become nuns. It's not a stress free life...
If this woman was a nurse, did she keep up with her mandated ongoing education to keep her license? If she dropped that and decides at some point to go back to secular life, she would need to go back to college and start all over again. And what about working orders that would use her skills and education? Not all orders are cloistered. Lots of unanswered questions about the nuts and bolts of her life choice.
This! I was more interested in learning those details than whether or not she was sad to give up dating lol. So funny how people get so focused on the celibacy part.
My mum is nurse at a Catholic hospital, they have nuns who work as nurses and yes they keep up with their annual education requirements to maintain there qualification.
@@Pheluv If you don't continue to work in a nursing field you are not able to keep your license. Nurses also have to continue to take classes to keep their licenses. She would be required to do both.
Nurses don't need to "start over" if their licenses lapse. To get her license back she'd have to take a refresher course. Requirements vary state to state.
Beautiful! We are so blessed to have this wonderful community in Chicago.
They send a gay man to a catholic convent I love it
A good nun is worth 1000 soldiers!
There's been some interesting dialog going on in the lesbian community about a number of them who considered becoming nuns only to realize a lot of the driving factors were related to not realizing they were gay.
I think they MIGHT have guessed beforehand, while vetting him...
I didn't know dialogue was spelled like that in US English.
It's great to hear that people have found their truth eventually 🙂
@@hideyable it's still spelled dialogue here :))
My thoughts exactly watching this girl... She'll figure it out in time if that's the case, and hopefully people won't be on her case about it. The Catholic Church STILL officially calls homosexuality a sin and anyone who pretends to be down with both the Catholic Church and LGBTQ+ folks is deluding themself.
Historically speaking, many women became nuns because they’d rather be married to Jesus than a mortal man made of flesh.
Her family is so supportive, open and kind! Love their open mindedness! 💕
Not sure why this was recommended to me but great video! I want more of this!
Thank you for this! My cousin is a nun in Brasília.
He’s a fantastic interviewer
There is much sacrifice, in the religious life. But there are also many blessings! 😊🌹

She looks like a nun
Being a nun never crossed my mind, the nuns in my school when I was a kid were just crazy 😜 Sister Katherine, Sister Naomi
I’m surprised only 12% of Catholic women have considered becoming a nun. Whenever school gets to overwhelming I think about dropping out and becoming a num, but I would not make a good nun at all. Shout out to all the nuns
I actually thought I the number was pretty high actually.
I also think the number is a bit higher than it seems
one. the literal first three minutes of this video, I saw that one of the seminarians from my dioceses in this video but now he is a deacon. so shout out to Deacon Elliot Zak, you’re amazing. two. I think it’s a huge misconception that the Catholic Church doesn’t like gays. I think it’s important to put it out there that we love you and Jesus loves you. As a Gay Catholic myself, some of the first people that I came out to was two sisters from my school and they were so open and so loving about it.
Catholic church love the sinners but not the sin you must go to confession soon and pray for changed heart , God bless
@@amenamen5204 it’s not a sin to be gay.
She has such a beautiful soul!
I am a former catholic. And I have to say the nuns were always great. They were funny and witty and just great women
This was so nicely done! Thank you!
As a devout Catholic, I absolutely adored this. Love that gorgeous sister, nuns are very special!
At the same that it's a modern world, women face less pressure about getting married and having children compared to the pressures we felt 20-40 years ago. For religious women, maybe they feel more free to seek out the "nun" life in 2021.
Poverty, chastity and obedience. Three things that modern people cannot tolerate.
not remotely religious but these videos are relaxing
Maybe that means something, not pushing but just saying ☺️
I guess God is calling you
I just prayed “God either send me the Godly husband you have for me, or I’m becoming a nun.” Lets see what happens 🙏
So encouraging!
this reporter is very lovely and surprisingly had amazing chemistry with a room full of nuns which is very sweet 🥰♥️
At the begging ... that dad was so no not amused by the gay talk lol
It's a nice video but I can't get over the hundreds of years of abuse that is still continuing now and is hidden, denied, represses, again and again.
yes, it’s called society.
Much respect for covering yr hair and modesty for God.
We muslim women do this all the time and ppl think we are oppressed and are forced to do it for and by men.
Perhaps you cab help set the record straight.
Dressing up modestly is our worship.
C minus on the background music...
Agree. Had me expecting Will Smith to come out.
what a great story. Seek first the kingdom of God.......
I wish all nuns wore habits.
Why is that important to you?
I believe they do? I've never seen a nun in civil clothing😄
@@katarinabeauty8 Most of the women religious I know do not wear habits. They work in healthcare and education. Nuns and sisters are a little different if you look into it. There are many different orders just like priests.
All are a calling and a vocation.
I can't believe they sat at the table and ate with a gay man. Bless that whole family for being so loving and kind 😭🌈
Most Christians are taught to love everyone so i dont see why this should be a surprise
It's not really that shocking... if he were to sit down with a bunch of Steven Anderson fans then maybe yea
I think the religious life is a cool thought, but it's gonna die out. People are dropping out of religion really fast. When a 2 year old is born to an ipad and an iphone, faith is gone
this is delightful!
This was so respectfully done that I just assumed Newsy was a Catholic channel.
Do nuns drink wine...we dont really know...
Why did he sound Exactly like Owen Wilson?
But really this is well done
@2:00 Why is Rick Harrison here?
What an inspirational story. May the Lord continue to Bless Emily!
Vows of chastity and poverty I could handle. Obedience would be my challenge. I think I was a nun in a past life. This time around I’m Jewish with pagan leanings.
I feel suffocated just looking at those masks.
Did you really bring a single bottle of wine for a table of like 20 people lol
Praise God.🙏
I'm just putting this out there, there's ways to become a member of a convent without actually living there. They are normally called Oblates and Associates. Secondly, every order and convent has different rules and uniforms. The main thing is the 3 vows for Nuns and Sisters.
The hugs are 3 seconds of peace, aaah I love that hahaha💕
So sweet
This seems such an authentic and loving interview :) it could of been such a cynical interview but it wasn’t.
So beautiful to watch

So beautiful!!
I absolutely loved this, the smiles and the warmth is wonderful. The guy that interviewed them is class. Thank you for posting. Blessings from Ireland 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️🇮🇪🇮🇪☘️
Obedience, poverty and chastity. Yeah, because of the pandemic I am forced to do the same HAHAHAH
Religious life can be beautiful and they all seem content, but that was hella weird at the dinner where it looked like the one man was presiding over all those grown women.
He isn't sitting alone, he's sharing the table with a sister 6:57. And he's not the only religious man there.
Only someone that has never felt that they understand their 'calling' would think to focus non the 'negatives, not even realizing they are GAINING so much more than they are giving up. (speaking as someone who is not a nun but I have known my purpose in life for many years now and I love to see other people who also know theirs.)
i have 0 problems with anyone wanting to become a nun but to do it after spending years becoming a nurse! Good on Emily but i could never. Also what happens to your debts specifically student debts if you become a nun?
The Church requires you pay your debts off by the time you formally join the community, before you give up your worldly goods. Wouldn't really work otherwise.
Please do not include Whoopi Goldberg in this.
She had NOTHING to do with a Christian life!🤦♂️😖
Amazing. I am guilty of having seen nuns and immediately thinking Wow they don't have these and immediately start listing down in my head worldly things that I LIKE instead of considering that they might be not feel the same and instead are actually gaining! I love this piece.
No other nation on earth mocks religion more than USA!
Actually they mock Christians but respect Muslims.. Dunno why
I get not believing into something, but why mock it? I don't understand.
@@f.-j.j.5738 it’s the hypocrisy of it all- sure God has been a positive thing for many people here, but countless people have faced and are still facing unjust oppression under the guise of God’s will.
