      At the end of the day, I say to each his own; I’m all for people doing what makes them happy. However….the idea of someone choosing to give up all of the many beautiful and amazing things life has to offer (and no, I’m not talking about sex), and spending the rest of their life essentially locked away as a prisoner is so unfathomable to me that I almost find it offensive. It almost feels like an affront to our humanity; a tragic waste of this precious thing called life.
      We only have one life to live. That’s it. Why choose to shun it completely?
      Of course, nuns themselves would greatly protest what I’m saying. They would insist that they have found the only source of true fulfillment. True happiness. They would probably say that the world is the prison, not the monastery. They would likely claim that their path is the only one of true freedom.
      But is that really true? Do they actually believe that, or have they been brainwashed? I think they WANT to believe that at least. But do you mean to tell me though that God is such a controlling and humorless egomaniac that he would actually command people to give up their only life and the people in it to spend it worshipping him literally 24/7 in a dreary and bleak monastery? For the rest of their lives? Only communicating with the outside world through a screen and NEVER leaving?
      I’ll tell you one thing-that’s not my God.

      @@Heffalumpswoozles85I think you’re missing the point. They’ve chosen this path for themselves, not for you, not for anyone else. They love their faith and are devoted to it. Some people choose to waste their lives playing video games, working 9-5, indulging in gluttony to ease the sadness etc but their way of spending their time wisely is through worship. God has not asked anyone of any religion to pray to him 24/7. Some people just choose to as it makes them happy. Doesn’t apply to everyone, as everyone is different.

    My family has known the Discalced Carmelite nuns in San Diego since 1947 when my mom hesitantly rang the bells at the entrance and the “turn” a barrel like structure turned around and from inside Sister Amata said “Deo Gratias” (Thanks be to God ). From that time up to the present , my family has been privileged to have the prayers of the nuns and spiritual counsel at the monastery.

    I have been viewing the documentary featured by the cloister nuns. It's highly inspiring. In an affluent society like America, it's amazing that there are Nuns like Cloistered who are spending their time in prayer and fasting. I listened the interviews given by some of the nuns. One among you seems to me from my country's origin Convey my great appreciation to The Rev. Fr who gave short narrations at intervals apart from the whole time narrator
    Above all the inside of the Chapel is extraordinarily beautiful which pronounces the gracious presence of Lord Jesus Christ😅😢😢

    I've never understood why any women's religious communities would release a video narrated by a male voice. Just doesn't make sense to me. Even when the male voice belongs to a Dominican man, mansplaining a women's order doesn't fly any more. It's an error and it affects the integrity and credibility of the piece. Come into the 21st Century. Otherwise, this is a lovely look at these Dominican nuns and sister(s). THEIR voices are dynamic and enthralling. Thank you very much!

    I was born and raised Catholic. In my early 20’s, I became absolutely infatuated with nuns/sisters, they were so mysterious, they seemed like they knew the key to happiness. I wanted what they had so I almost became one. 10+ years later, I am so glad I didn’t. You’re seeing a snippet of their lives, not their brutal and honest internal struggles. Falling in love with God is such a bizarre concept and unless these women and priests for that matter as well are all asexual, they’re struggling every day with repressed sexual urges. They’re pushing back against the biological urge to be mothers or just to have intimacy and romance. Some of them are gay, lesbian, or even transgender and are using this as a method to escape that reality because it is so frowned upon in the church. No wonder why so much abuse goes on in the church. These poor souls have stuffed down who they are for decades. Eventually it boils over, it always does. Chastity does not equal holiness.

    • @flower5396
      @flower5396 2 года назад

      Protestants pastors are married and yet they're also rapists and biological parents also rape their own children, don't they? Millions of women and children are raped around the world. You should watch the news. Sorry, but your statement makes no sense.
      Being a religious sister is a vocation and this is the reason why thousands of nuns and priests are now saints as well as martyrs who have died in the name of our Lord and the church. There is good and bad everywhere.
      You would've been a bad nun so I'm glad you stayed away from the religious life.

      The call to this life is a sacrifice. We deny some part of our lives to fulfill another part. Athletes who deny their appetite for junk food are sacrificing that for a better body. But these who embrace the religious life have sought a better spirit. The spirit of our age is to sacrifice the noblest parts of our life to appease our selfish fleshly desires. In the repressed 1950's, teen suicides were low, much lower than our free and expressive 21st Century. Are there some in the religious life who struggle with sexuality? Yes, but so do people at large, and the rates of suicide and other signs of unhappiness are higher for sexual minorities than for those adhering to Christian ideals. Finally, the cloistered nuns have a strong support group and are sheltered from the assaults and attacks of the World, the Flesh, and the Devil, by virtue of their avoidance of debasing entertainment and appeals (for example, using sex to sell toothpaste and automobiles). You are right that chastity does not equal holiness, but holiness entails chastity, whether within the covenant of marriage (like St. Peter) or the religious (like St. Paul).

    • @LittleWaterLily19
      @LittleWaterLily19 2 года назад

      @@FrZeile a call to sacrifice your life for something that was made up by man, written in books by man and altered a million times over the years by man. It’s a waste of a perfectly good life but if that’s what makes you happy, please by all means, go ahead. It’s dangerous though because it calls you to live a life that goes against human nature. Imagine that, a god that calls you to goes against the human nature that he designed you with, insane.

    • @FrZeile
      @FrZeile 2 года назад

      @@LittleWaterLily19 Ah, nature...same sex attraction is contrary to nature, is it not? Unless we regard cancer as "natural," where the design of the host cell is subverted into self-destructive activity. I am intrigued by what you mean by "a perfectly good life." You sound like a hedonist, a thorough-going materialist (both perfectly respectable philosophical positions), who does not believe in anything worth sacrificing for. The good news, my friend is that life is MORE than pleasure and sensation, that there are things worth pursuing that make these passing values seem less desirable, worth giving up for the greater good. This was not made up by man, any more than the rules of math or nutrition were "made up." The catholic faith (I use the small c because I am a married Lutheran Pastor) recognizes recognizes that these truths/principles were revealed, although some are written on the heart of humans so that all recognize many of these truths, as did Aristotle, Confucius, etc.
