If you watch the entire thing, you're an absolute legend! Hope I did the series justice and can be used and shared around to inspire others to start the index novels, or when Index comes under criticism simply because of the anime adaptation or other reasons. Please share it with others as that will mean a lot to me! And thank you for 25k subs!
When I decided to binge the entire anime is the exact same time I found your channel since I slept through a few arcs in season 1(Angelfall) so thanks cos without you I'd be confused asf on practically everything since all I heard were mfs yapping in the anime
Its kind of funny how easy i can get influenced. That said, i think im sold. I read light novels from kindle because i cant read kanjis without text selection but it seems like the early volume of index isn’t digitalized so it was tricky getting into this series As i like reading series without skipping any details. Might just get the physical copy and write the kanjis by hand manually like i do with mangas without furigana’s.
Arguably the best thing about index to me is the main characters. Touma, Hamazura and Accelerator are such good characters that never fail to make the story interesting
This is not only my favourite Light Novel series but one of my all-time favourite series of all time. I'm picky about what I watch or read, especially long-running series, but I was hooked on To Aru from episode 1. Kamijou Touma has inspired me so much over the 10 years to the point of I spent over 100 pounds on hair products to get Touma's iconic hairstyle. I cherish this series so much even during the high and low points over the past 20 years it has been going. and there wouldn't be another LN, manga or anime series I will hold close to my heart then this on. As for Kamijou Touma, HE IS MY BOY! Thank you for all the hard work you put into this video Aeon, your video gives the series far better justice than Gigguk video could ever do.
Thanks to you, I started reading the light novel about a month ago, having seen the anime last year. I am currently at OT4 and I don't regret taking the plunge. I hope I will eventually be up to date.
In my country, Index translation was dropped since OT4 was translated 5-6 years ago, I've lost hope, though the fandom isn't by any mean non-existence here, though I failed to introduce Index to nearly everyone around me, nearly since there is 1 person I successfully persuaded to only watch the Anime and that's it, so sad.
Can you do investigation on why series sales numbers declined over time, like not even top 10 Light Novel in the last 5 years, it would be interesting to know what happened, people just lost interes in the series or Komachi writing skill got worse ?@@AeonofHorus
Wonderful video, Aeon! I think you did a good job describing what makes the series so unique, and in what ways it stands out among the rest of the medium. I couldn't help feeling hyped remembering the different arcs throughout the vid. No other series has been able to get me so invested in a cast of characters like Index has. And very few series have anywhere near the thematic depth that I believe Index contains. Glad you made this!
Upon rewatching both Index and Railgun, I found that I actually like Index more, I could see the original works genius shining through the cracks in Index. I especially liked Accelerators character arc, one of his quotes from season three going something like "the only word that can truly describe myself, is me." that hits really hard.
I have been following Index for more than 10 years now and all I can say about the series is that it definitely left a big mark on my life ever since I first laid eyes on it on the BT Site. I clearly remember reading OT14 while working as an summer job intern at a small insurance company on and off work just to sate my boredom. I remember binging through all of OT up until NT7 where I finally caught up. My first exposure to the series was also its best year of publication, with the Othinus Arc going full gear on NT8, reaching an emotional high on NT9, and ending the arc on its most jaw dropping on NT10. Ever since, I've been with the series on its highest points and also its lowest (dear god why did Kamachi go full experimental on Kamisato Arc?). There have been times I almost gave up on Index simply because I have no one one to talk to with and I was most thankful when I found people online who I could talk to about the series I love. While GT is an interesting ride so far, with GT8 ending on its most unpredictable plot so far, I can say that the series is still doing wonders to those that held on this story for as long as I did, even more so the people who followed since this LN released on 2004. Index is not a perfect LN series, but there is no such thing as a perfect story either. The world of Index is not fully explored yet, as I wish that sometimes I see what is happening outside of Academy City more, but AC has interesting lore and history that have yet to be fully realized as well. The characters are many and not all of them are fully developed or have not been given proper focus, especially characters that were first introduced in OT and became mob characters before we knew it. Some interesting plotlines were dropped as we focused on the newer stories that do develop our main characters more in exchange. Kamachi's balancing act when it comes to writing Index and its spinoffs is quite insane to me and I appreciate all the hard work he did to make it all work somewhat. All in all, this LN series is influential to me more than I ever realized and when the time comes that this story does end, I hope that it is the most satisfying in all of long running series fiction. Thank you for sharing your love of Index with me and everyone in this platform, Aeon of Horus!
Enjoyed reading about your experience with the series! I always wanted there to be a dedicated RUclips channel for the franchise, so it is a bit surreal I eventually took up the mantle!
I remember starting index or railgun like 5 times through out the years and always forgetting the name until one day I finally watched both series. I loved them both
This video will probably be incredible, and to be honest too, before reading the novel, a period when I was an average AnimeOnly and Edge AccelTard, I wasn't that motivated nor had many expectations, but when I read OT1 and consequently the other volumes, I I fell in love with the well-constructed world and its vast characters, especially them, Touma and his complex mentality and the feeling of him filling a void in me sometimes when I read, Accelerator at the beginning of his development that held me and entertained me throughout the entire moment I followed Even in the current volumes (in OT5) and the future Aleister, an incredible high-level character, I wanted to talk about more than just these simple reasons that make me love his characters, but I want to avoid writing more than necessary. I would say that reading this LN matured me and changed me a lot, especially my way of thinking, which was quite superficial (even though I still tend to think like that sometimes) haha, in addition to this LN, it motivated me to read many other Light Novels, I'm happy that so many good things were said in this LN video, for me I believe it is without a doubt a masterpiece. Sorry for the long text and thank you for this, which is without a doubt an incredible video Aeon. ;^)
I got into the series in 2019, prompted by RUclips recommending me the opening of the then currently airing Accelerator, and it quickly became one of my favorites. I've always been someone who loves complex world building more than anything else in my fiction. I love the Type-Moon Nasuverse and its massive, constantly expanding, interwoven and extremely complex universe; the many different power systems and power types (psychics, sacraments, magecraft, magic etc); the structures and hierarchies of the different factions and organizations; the different Worlds (timelines) and how they are managed by the universe through Quantum Timelocking and the Pruning Theoretical Phenomenon; that kind of complex world building that often scares away newcomers from even giving the series a chance is my bread and butter, and on some level I can't consider a series/game/whatever a favorite of mine unless I can lose myself in learning and thinking about the intricacies of its world for hours at a time. With that in mind, any Toaru fan reading this can already see where this is going. After watching the Accelerator opening I decided on a whim to check out Gigguk's video essay (you all know the one), and I thought Toaru sounded like it was completely up my alley. And so it was that I decided that I would start it, beginning with the anime as a test run to see if I liked it enough to dive into it completely. My watch order was as follows: Railgun --> Railgun S --> Index --> Index II --> Index Movie --> Index III --> Accelerator. From the moment I started it I quickly fell in love with the series. I even loved Index III my first time, as strange as that feels to say. On some level I can see why; since I hadn't read the novels at the time I didn't know how badly Index III ruined the adaptation, so my positive opinion didn't have anything to do with the quality of the season per se, but rather how interesting I found the story arcs and events to be. And as bad as the season is, the arcs it adapts are at their core phenomenal, so I can see how the "just sit back and enjoy the show, I can look at details later when I start the novels" mindset I had could lead me to loving it. But Index III aside, I managed to binge it all and catch up to Accelerator just in time for Accelerator episode 6 to be released. All in all, it took 2 weeks from me starting Railgun to finishing all released Toaru anime and catching up to Accelerator. And once I caught up to the anime and wanted more, I immediately started reading the Index OT novels, and about half a year later I finished OT and started NT. I'm still not caught up, I am at NT05 and haven't been making much progress for quite a while as, well, "life happened" and various things ended up taking the wind out of my Toaru sails and unfortunately Railgun T with all its delays failed to bring the wind back. But I still consider the Toaru universe one of my favorites in all of fiction, and one of these days I'm planning a rewatch of the anime to get my Index hype back up so I can start reading again and finally catch up.
Well this was the video I was not expecting but feeling fortunate enough to get. Worthy of 2 large cups of coffee and watching while I work out material. I also feel Index is a masterpiece. The whole reason I was drawn to the series was the depth, slew of characters, the world building, the seeming less endless stories and possibilities. I am constantly blown away by all the different things going on and the myriad points of views that always come into play. You really can't put this universe into any one category or box and the complexity of story telling is leaps and bounds above so many other stories out there. I believe that if this story was prefect, it would not be a masterpiece. The beauty of this universe and story and what makes it a masterpiece is the very fact it has flaws, things unexplained, and is always striving to be better as a whole, always expanding on itself all the time. It truly has become a living entity of it's own in many ways, growing and striving to evolve as the story progresses and branches off into may other facets. On another note, I actually love the anime of the Index series and re-watch it consistently. A video like this must have taken quiet some time to make and edit, lot of work has gone into this and I am very happy with the attention to detail, well thought out explanations and the comedy is always what makes it dang fun to watch. Great video, here's to hoping more stories keep coming out and we get some much needed anime on this universe.
Majestic, I felt like just receiving some divine revelation. 😭 But seriously though, still waiting for season 4. Even if there is any other studios wanted to reboot the whole OT, I'm all for it. 🤝🏼
I actually genuinely love this Anime. I did drop it back when it first came out but eventually picked it back up and been a long time fan since then. Despite having a Jojo like crazy shit happening all the time, there's the peaceful slice-of-life side in it that makes me want to re-watch watch it. I remember being so surprised and excited when Season 3 was announced that I re-watched it all again lol
I don't think Index is a complete masterpiece, but is on the way to be one. It's story has many questions to be asked(what is inside the right hand? Will Touma be forced to repeat hi academic year?), and what's almost unique for a shonen series, it already answered some of them(What's Mitsuari story? who is and what can do the sixth level 5?) so is probably that many questions are likely to be answered some day. Some day is gonna become the kind of story that can fill a library by it's own and someone would be able to make essays on its topics and stuff. That said, this has a case of the author growing faster than his characters, and I mean, it's almost 20 years already, and the story events density is just getting more pronounced. In OT, Touma went to fight, got hurt, get some days in the hospital and then back to life, so it was 23 volumes in 4 story months. In NT Touma went to fight, got hurt, and if necessary he skipped the hospital until his body reached its limit, and then he rested a bit efore the next, so it were 23 volumes in nearly 50 days(not counting the centuries against Othinus i guess). Now in GT Touma gets pummeled into a pulp, does not get some hours in the hospital, and yet he stands up and fight over and over, and we are for the volume 9 in nearly two weeks. The story is compressing the events so much that we don't see any aftermatch without another strong crazy character ready to put another chapter in misfortune diary.
Well, that's kinda the life of an Imagine Breaker wielder, and he even have Index beside him, and even more, Aleister. I don't expect Touma to get any good rest at all, so I think it's not because the author going too fast, it's because that Touma is Touma. Like look at Misaka getting all the time she need after a fight, and here we have Touma not getting a rest even in Railgun.
This series is heavily slept on and I've been a hardcore fan since well over 10 years ago. I love whenever people make videos like this every couple of years letting people know what they've been missing out on. I binged everything back a couple years ago in preparation for the new releases through 2018~2020, and I'll do the same again when it makes its return!
hahahaha, Frenda made her debut in the volume she was killed! Although since she was introduced to the anime for the first time in Railgun, she became more popular.
Mention of DxD and Trinity Seven was interesting. DxD thrives in pure unhinged freedom of fantasy. There is a cast size explosion after the first 12 volumes. Nobody really stands out in the side cast, but most of them are pretty memorable. The genre becomes more of a battle shounen. One will be surprised how long it takes to actually acquire a single girl with total consent. And the amount of character development it involves. DxD never can be a masterpiece, but it revels in being unconstrained and having a strong core. Trinity Seven, on the other hand, is sophisticatedly weird. The world building is so drastic, the author had to write notes at the end of chapters regarding certain new terms. If you are reading the manga weekly now, 90% chance you are going on with the flow and is actually confused regarding wtf is even happening. Drop ur Evas and Lains; if you understand Trinity Seven lore completely, you are a genius. Probably. However what holds it together are a strong central cast with consistent values. Levi and Liselotte are very strongly written characters (much better than any of the "strong" female characters some shonen boasts of nowadays). They have their own spinoffs and character development occurring even now. Arata is pure W MC. His singular, pure motivation of being happy with others has been explored to extreme depths. And it doesn't get old! If being a pinnacle in it's own genre means being a masterpiece, Toaru is certainly one. The writing and storytelling has it's flaws, some characters needs to be worked upon, some arcs are meh... But there's too much good going on anyway for Toaru fans to handle.
You're correct about it being difficult to read if you have a short attention span. A few people I know tried to get into the novels and sadly, couldn't stay with it.
@@AeonofHorus True, but it is a perfect defense against the stereotypical toxic fast-paced OP protagonist lover that currently plagues a lot of fandoms. That is, until they get to OT 3 & 5. Even so, I can't help but recommend it to everyone I can.
When I saw the two first seasons of Index and Railgun I enjoyed them… When I started to read the novels… I felt in love with the story and characters. When I finished the last “Genesis Testament” volume I felt in desperation waiting to the next comes out…
God's you have an almost fanatical edge to your enjoyment which is so reminiscent of my own feelings about the Malazan Book of the Fallen series. Those books played a distinct part in eroding my efforts in the writing of my own series (The Hidden Academy books: The Unicorn Crisis; The Digital Wolf and so on) which were doing quite well, then - I read Malazan and yeah, with my health issues and other things... . My fanatical need to understand what it was that Erikson was creating made it imperative understand those works as the highest criteria. Which over all means you've made a hell of a case for both wanting to read the Light Novels and a desperate warning to stay the hell away from the damn things. Lol.
Toaru to me originally looked like a slice and life anime that doesn’t seem special. However after learning about supernatural power, magic, cool characters, antagonist and WW3. I had to learn more. The LN is definitely overlooked. It deserves recognition and it’s power system is really great. Touma, Accelerator and Hamazura represent their own version as heroes and its great. However the things I don’t like in Index are the amount of fanservice we get with these young girls, the lore of magic gets more complicated, some arcs such as Element arc was boring and questions we fans have still haven’t been answered. At this point after getting into GT, I wonder how the story goes from a concept of KNT and how does everything end or who’s the main villain in Index.
18:58 Thank you! Finally someone said it! I agree 200% with that! Toaru is a story that doesn't need fanservice AT ALL! Remove that and it becomes a story with a stable tone without constant changes! If that was the case, I would openly recomend it to ANYONE, like I do with Fate Zero and Fate UBW!
At the same time I understand why it's there, and I don't think all of it is bad per say. But yeah, it can be annoying and makes the series tougher to recommend.
love this vid, i got into the series via railgun but after catching up to the anime with T and the railgun manga I jumped in the Index LNs as i heard bad things about the anime, I finished OT within a month or so recently and now im obsessed with it all, its great knowing theres a toaru (and a fellow brit at that) youtuber to give the series love even if i have to dance around some vids as someone not caught up lmao, keep up the great work :)
I mean you say that but I finished the Railgun anime today and having only seen the first 6 episodes of Index, not only did I understand what was happening but I found it way more fascinating; truly a thrill. Railgun is like painfully straight forward by comparison, but that's fine because it's hard not to like a bunch of well written cute girls doing whatever the fuck.
Railgun is an easier story to adapt into anime cos its based off a manga, while its harder for Index with it being a LN originally. And yeah I'm not surprised you found Railgun easier to understand as the Index anime is pretty confusing as a lot of the time they don't explain whats going on in much detail.
@@AeonofHorus I know that in hindsight, but I actually read volume 12 of Railgun before volume 15 of Index due to the order they were officially translated into English, so I got all of the Frenda scenes, including her character arc with Saten, before I saw her die. That ended up hitting me hard.
i just finished toaru kagaku no railgun (all the season)... im very happy because knowing that this series is awesome, im not looking at majutsu index yet.... so i hope it is good
I won't tolerate the boat arc slander! Also i personally really like the slice of life moments and even the harem tropes that appear in the series. I think it actually helps the pacing since it gives the reader some time to read. By the way, good video 👍
While I do think that the focus on Academy City and Espers really helped differentiate Index in a sea of fantasy Light Novels making it much crunchier to dig into... I would still enjoy a self-contained Magic-side spin-off. Yes, you'd lose a bit of the mystique, but there's a lot of potential there to do different kinds of stories from the perspective of a mage character as opposed to Touma or any of the Academy City people. When there's Magician versus Magician battles in Index they're typically quite cool, having their own internal logic to them that's distinct from Esper fights. Then there's all the Magic-side characters that have been established in one Index story only to go underutilized or completely unutilized ever again.
"Finally, I appreciate this video as a way for this holy book" Is what I should be saying. But, I am truly blessed for reading such a great novel and having this youtuber as one to speak on its honest points. Alas, since I am from Indian Subcontinent, I am unable to read these books on a daily basis. But, because of your presence, I am happily doing this. 😊
I'm an anime only. while I watched index back in middle school, I only became a high fan into my the age of 18 or so. I recently tried getting into the novel but got overwhelmed right at the start by how diffrent misaka feels. maybe I should give it another go... also a huge accelerator fan from the first moment I saw him
@@AeonofHorus how should I put it... the whole moment with her starts right from the get go of the novel and the amount of info been trown at you is massive. She actully sounds scary with hints to the sisters and so on been given before you even realize what you are reading. To be fair I only ever read novels of 2 shows before
Great video. Gave me new viewpoint for this series. I have watched the anime and read LNs till new testament. I dropped it cause of new characters. I have always liked the series but not on the level of others like Irregular at Magic High School or even the ones you mentioned like DxD or Trinity Seven. Maybe because I was never a fan of characters, aside from Mikasa. I may try it again someday thanks to this video. Cheers
@@AeonofHorus Yeah the fight needs it's own long video on why it's good and deep I've read your post on Amino before and after that I wanted a video on the fight.
To be honest. It is a Master Piece. I got to the anime and I actually liked it. got hooked by the Openings 😅... Then went to the manga to cover more of the story... and ended up reading the Novel from Volume 1 OT because it felt the right call. Fun to notice you said you will talk about it flaws and soon after ended talking again about its good points 😅
Yeah mainly cos those are common flaws I notice readers mentioning, while I can see the merits in the way Kamachi writes it in regards to pacing or how he handles characters. If I had a tonne of criticisms of the series then it wouldn't be my fav!
I’m pretty sure people who don’t like Toaru wouldn’t be the watching this video, as most people here watching have read the light novels or are interested in reading it
I respectfully disagree. You do realise majority of viewers who watch my content aren't even subscribed to the channel? Even if some of the people who aren't subbed are also Index fans, most of them will be general anime fans who get hooked in by an attractive thumbnail or title, or have only basic knowledge of Index and are curious. In fact, for this particular video, I guarantee that the hardcore readers of the light novel already know why Index is good and will prob share similar opinions to what I've already said. Meanwhile anime only fans or general anime fans who are wondering "why the hell would someone think Index is a masterpiece?" Would be further inclined to watch a lot of it to understand my opinion.
@@AeonofHorusFair enough, it’s also possible for RUclips to just recommend it to any anime fans since the video is under the “anime” genre, and they may click on it out of curiosity. And yes, I did mention that people interested in index would probably watch it, to better understand why the series is good and whether they should watch/read it.
I prefer to see Kamachi as some sort of eldritch god as opposed to a mad genius given his absurdly prolific output of multiple simultaneous light novel series. Man has to have some sort of time warping powers.
i have a short ass atention span which can make reading the LNS hard at time cause i just drift off in my imagination but BUT index is just so good i ahd to read it littely only LN i have ever read and easily most intresting world i have seen in fiction i genuliy enjoy serching around the intenet learning about magical and scientifical concepts that appear in index with a great power system aswell and omg some esper powers are just so flipin cool man.
From 22:00 from the vid I got reminded from my opinion I feel like Accelerator and Toumas both abilities had the balanced impacts on the story purpose Like Toumas Imagine Breaker is neither Magic or Science side but to keep them on place While Accelerator (after being angel) connects Both Magic and Science Side
True, Index isn't underrated over there. LNs are a lot more popular in Japan than the West, and there are a lot fewer people who have read Index than watched it.
The manga is good but unfortunately it skips two arcs, and the art at the start is meh. Ironically, later the art becomes the best in the whole franchise. I'd say the LNs are better as it has the chance to go into more detail and doesnt skip anything, also the manga is still behind the anime while the LNs continue the story way beyond season 3
Spice n Wolf got a remake... can always hope for an Index Anime Remake? This coming from a rail-gun anime first and then index anime. three seasons into 4 or 6? and then roll into NT anime?? **shrugs** can hope.
I watched Railgun and Railgun S first and Index 1 and 2 later, but I didn't really vibed with Index (actually, I really disliked it back in the day), but after watching this video, I am thinking of giving it another chance.
One theme that is transparent enough in the animé and no doubt also in the novels is lies, and especially self-deception. Linked to the "All is not what it seems" trope, of course. The kind of self-deception Touma's Imagine Breaker is often tasked to destroy in his enemies. His right hand stands in the middle between Science and Magic as a cure against the untruthfulness coming from each side in their wars. This is probably the core theme in the series as most of the characters' main flaw is they lie to themselves on a fundamental level... Even Touma, I suppose, despite the fact he is meant to act as the redeemer of these flaws and also undoubtedly the Christ figure in the story, much as we like to meme about this idea.
Can a Grimoire create itself / come to "life" by itself [in someone's head/body]? Someone do can create a Grimoire. But what if someone didn't fully acquired a Grimoire or its knowledge, but do have a vast magical knowledge, including many, many small patches or fragments of existing Grimoires in their memory? Can something eventually "click on" in their mind and put this knowledge together, maybe supported by that person's emotions and desires, to spontaneously create a new Grimoire?
Well I heard that someone created something from nothing in an Index SS volume by summoning a Cthulhu Mythos being, so I guess they can definitely create a Grimoire out of something. Though I never read the volume for myself, I guess I'll fill the gap soon.
27:25 : Meh. I always felt that Hamazura's point about Academy's system being flawed and mistreating Level 0 to be largely right everything considered. Sure, Hamazura's methods (kidnapping) were problematic... but considering how A) ax crazy MANY higher level espers, the crookedness of Academy City's political structure. B) Hamazura's abuse/disrespect by ITEM (especially Mugino) and C) How part of his job was LEGITIMATE body disposal of his peers. I can completely understand where he's coming from and in that instance I treat that plot arc as an example of Touma's soap box-ness being put on full display. Touma does have complex political philosophy but his hero complex tends to put him in opposition to people who's situations are much more complex and harsh than he knows and make his enemies more sympathetic than the idea he's preaching at the time. In a sense when Touma raises the Imagine Breaker it's less about who's right and about who wins. 32:25 Basically this. Not always right but just that Touma happens to be the MC who prevail though a mixture of luck, and force of will. Touma's insistence that Hamazura just didn't "try hard enough" runs into a flaw with the City's inherent corruption being responsible for countless deaths. Sure, individual effort is all and good but it doesn't work when you have super powered espers who are supported by a corrupt system.
The one thing that pisses me of is whenever there are people discussing power systems in anime and there is no mention of index, index negs every power system in anime by a long shot. It’s complexity is unrivalled, the way the different power systems of the verse collide is also very unique.
Actually saying he had a cheat code might be a bit of exaggeration, Kamachi’s execution of implementing the power system is great and I also like when he provides specifics especially for the science side weapons, honestly there’s so much more to say as I’m typing this you probably already made a video about the power system. I’m definitely rambling but this what toaru does to a guy. Fire vid btw.
There are things that could have been done better, but it overall follows the story and it's not that hard to follow from an anime prospective, I can admit that there are some details that were left out in some arcs, and they should have added toumas inner thoughts while dealing with his memory loss and his past, but the anime somewhat touches on some of it, and besides the Index anime is still way better than another of anime and I don't really think that it's shit, but I could have been done better, p.s. index season 3 was actually shit though😂
Allow me to help. Manga? No no no, it's a light novel, and yes while it does indeed have a manga and Anime, it's not nearly as good. The anime is just a disaster, ss3 is a catastrophe (literally worse than Beserk 2016), JC staff messed it up, but well if you want a first look at the series, anime is a great place to start too, chronological order: Index 1 then railgun 1 then railgun 2 then Index 2 then Railgun 3 then Index 3 then Accelerator cause it's non canon. Oh right, you can fit the endymion no kiseki Index movie in betweern Index 2 and Railgun 2. Manga: It butchered, or I mean completely removed one of the most important arc and 1 of the best Touma character development arc, but for the most part, the manga faithfully adapted the LN, so you can read it. It removed Arc 2 and 4, so once you finished Arc 1, after that is Arc 3, go read the LN (cause the anime also completely changed the plot of both arcs, totally unrepairable), Read Vol 2 and Vol 4. You can read the manga on Mangadex, it's still catching up to the anime, we're still several volumes behind though.
If you watch the entire thing, you're an absolute legend! Hope I did the series justice and can be used and shared around to inspire others to start the index novels, or when Index comes under criticism simply because of the anime adaptation or other reasons. As for Kamijou Touma, HE IS MY BOY! Thank you for all the hard work you put into this video Aeon, your video gives the series far better justice than Gigguk video could ever do.
Respect the dedication fam.

Thanks to you, I started reading the light novel about a month ago, having seen the anime last year. I am currently at OT4 and I don't regret taking the plunge. I hope I will eventually be up to date.

Nice idea
In my country, Index translation was dropped since OT4 was translated 5-6 years ago, I've lost hope, though the fandom isn't by any mean non-existence here, though I failed to introduce Index to nearly everyone around me, nearly since there is 1 person I successfully persuaded to only watch the Anime and that's it, so sad.
Thats unfortunate

It's such a great video!! I really relate to the final segment as well... It's impossible to give up Index at this point!!!!!!!
Thanks Didi, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it & feel the same!
Thanks Emerald!
Upon rewatching both Index and Railgun, I found that I actually like Index more, I could see the original works genius shining through the cracks in Index. I especially liked Accelerators character arc, one of his quotes from season three going something like "the only word that can truly describe myself, is me." that hits really hard.
Index III did do a good job of the dramatic Accelerator moments in WW3 true
I loved them both
All the insane mysteries in the gigantic world building in this series make it so good for me. Great Video Aeon!
Thanks!
Sorry for the long text and thank you for this, which is without a doubt an incredible video Aeon. ;^)
Your experience is actually very similar to my own! Hope you enjoy the video :)
But I still consider the Toaru universe one of my favorites in all of fiction, and one of these days I'm planning a rewatch of the anime to get my Index hype back up so I can start reading again and finally catch up.
gigguk exp;ainet that opening quote perfectly : this is THE cheesy spikey hair mc harem anime.
Toaru is my favorite light novel.
But seriously though, still waiting for season 4. Even if there is any other studios wanted to reboot the whole OT, I'm all for it. 🤝🏼
Brotherhood treatment!
@@AeonofHorus Exactly, mate.
Man this is a real good video on Toaru, Aeon, hope we get some anime related news next year

Thank you!
Absolutely, the OT build-up volumes do kinda gatekeep those who don't like the slower paced parts
@@AeonofHorus True, but it is a perfect defense against the stereotypical toxic fast-paced OP protagonist lover that currently plagues a lot of fandoms. That is, until they get to OT 3 & 5. Even so, I can't help but recommend it to everyone I can.

When I saw the two first seasons of Index and Railgun I enjoyed them…
When I started to read the novels… I felt in love with the story and characters.
When I finished the last “Genesis Testament” volume I felt in desperation waiting to the next comes out…
Love to see it! GT9 hype train here we come!
Lol.
Great video man! Editing is 🔥🔥
Thank you for the kind words! Glad you like it! :P
I already knew, but thanks for your service
"OMG Aeon of Horus you're such a Kazuma Kamachi D rider" as I read the 10 first volume of Old Testament in 5 Days.
Imo more videos like this, it was great
We will see, kinda intended this as a one-off special for 25k subs
18:58 Thank you! Finally someone said it! I agree 200% with that! Toaru is a story that doesn't need fanservice AT ALL! Remove that and it becomes a story with a stable tone without constant changes! If that was the case, I would openly recomend it to ANYONE, like I do with Fate Zero and Fate UBW!
At the same time I understand why it's there, and I don't think all of it is bad per say. But yeah, it can be annoying and makes the series tougher to recommend.
*I still recomend Toaru to anyone I can, after all, it's my favourite franchise! But noone checks it out...
Holy shit, 40min vid lets goo

love this vid, i got into the series via railgun but after catching up to the anime with T and the railgun manga I jumped in the Index LNs as i heard bad things about the anime, I finished OT within a month or so recently and now im obsessed with it all, its great knowing theres a toaru (and a fellow brit at that) youtuber to give the series love even if i have to dance around some vids as someone not caught up lmao, keep up the great work :)
ayy glad to hear you're enjoying the novels! Thank you!
"No one important actually dies."
*cries in unimportant Frenda*
Well I mean, she was killed in the very first volume she debuted in lol, Frenda got more scenes thanks to Railgun
@@AeonofHorus I know that in hindsight, but I actually read volume 12 of Railgun before volume 15 of Index due to the order they were officially translated into English, so I got all of the Frenda scenes, including her character arc with Saten, before I saw her die. That ended up hitting me hard.

I won't tolerate the boat arc slander! Also i personally really like the slice of life moments and even the harem tropes that appear in the series. I think it actually helps the pacing since it gives the reader some time to read. By the way, good video 👍
amazing video as always, i love this series so much
Thank you!
Its what many fans have been crying out for, I believe there was rumours of a Russian Orthodox Church spinoff but was scrapped sadly
Aeon be cookin 🔥🔥🔥

Thanks for getting me into toaru. I got the OT Omnibus. I going to return the favour by spreading the gospel of Re:Zero. It's pretty goated too man.❤
I prefer to see Kamachi as some sort of eldritch god as opposed to a mad genius given his absurdly prolific output of multiple simultaneous light novel series. Man has to have some sort of time warping powers.

True, Index isn't underrated over there. LNs are a lot more popular in Japan than the West, and there are a lot fewer people who have read Index than watched it.

So I started reading To Aru ,and I found out that reading is quite exhausting!! But its fun. Is the manga as good as the light novels???
The manga is good but unfortunately it skips two arcs, and the art at the start is meh. Ironically, later the art becomes the best in the whole franchise. I'd say the LNs are better as it has the chance to go into more detail and doesnt skip anything, also the manga is still behind the anime while the LNs continue the story way beyond season 3

I will read, index one day
Thank you for the super thanks! And yes you should, its a long ride but its worth it :^)
Say Aeon have you watch or read One Piece?

Meh. I always felt that Hamazura's point about Academy's system being flawed and mistreating Level 0 to be largely right everything considered. Sure, Hamazura's methods (kidnapping) were problematic...
but considering how
A) ax crazy MANY higher level espers, the crookedness of Academy City's political structure.
B) Hamazura's abuse/disrespect by ITEM (especially Mugino)
and
C) How part of his job was LEGITIMATE body disposal of his peers.
Index's power system is so unique with a lot of thought put into it
@@AeonofHorusyeah tbf kamachi pretty much had the cheat code to create the best power system being the book of law and other of Crowley’s works
I would never call a certain magical index trashy or mid I honestly loved the anime
Did the video got deleted and reuploaded or it's just my imaginations 😵💫
no, I just changed the thumbnail cos I wanted to improve it
@@AeonofHorus ah that's it
Dont got to tell me twice i already got my Bible and read every day befor bed
Please where do I read the manga and where to start after the anime
Allow me to help. Manga? No no no, it's a light novel, and yes while it does indeed have a manga and Anime, it's not nearly as good.
The anime is just a disaster, ss3 is a catastrophe (literally worse than Beserk 2016), JC staff messed it up, but well if you want a first look at the series, anime is a great place to start too, chronological order:
Index 1 then railgun 1 then railgun 2 then Index 2 then Railgun 3 then Index 3 then Accelerator cause it's non canon.
@@user-om3pk8ts4j so like the manga removed arc 2 and arc 4 so I should just go and read the ln from vol2 to vol4 right
Awesome video as usual, keep spreading the gospel
Thanks!
